Chapter 18

Somehow the weekend quickly passed and before I knew it, it was time to head back to Ouran to confront a certain pair of twins. Fortunately Nanami seemed more lenient than usual. Most likely due to the distressing news I had received.

This didn't disrupt my daily routine and I was back in work: stopping more kitchen disasters and clearing up Sakura's mistakes. However, the painful flashbacks plagued my dreams preventing me from sleeping peacefully.

Once again like normal, I was waiting for Nanami to stride with her usually perfected and well crafted make up occupying her face. As usual she issued the order to set off and away we were.

An air of elegance and sophisticated confidence surrounds her as she holds her head high as we enter the academy. In comparison I felt the complete opposite. I lagged behind her shadow with a bundle of nerves forming due to my anxiety of meeting the twins this morning.

Once we entered I sighed heavily as I noticed my desk had been plagued by the familiar sickly yellow post it notes. I shouldn't be surprised. Of course the requests would pile up after my long trip away. I can certainly forget studying for the first half an hour I have spare. The usual requests were here such as take care of cleaning duty, returning books to the library, etc. Unfortunately other notes had taken the form of insults. Money grabber, dog and attention stealer are the nicest names I could pick out. Even still, they aren't the best of names. No doubt, Monica hadn't given up just yet. I shoved the notes in my bag

Routine starts to take place as I make a start on the requests and manage to complete them in a good amount of time before first period. With five minutes to spare, I wonder back into the classroom to see the twins had arrived. Much to my surprise they were unlike their usual mischievous personas and they were much more reserved. Both of them wore the same disheartened expression. What was even worse is that the twins weren't even next to each other.

They rarely left each other's side yet here they are; separate.

There was definitely something wrong. Maybe the twins had a fight! That isn't good! How will they keep up their act for the host club? Never mind that, this must be bad! I haven't seen them fight before. I should help them out! After all the times they allowed me to confine in them and I barely do anything in return, it's about time I did something for them!

Just at the right moment, Hikaru walks pass me and as I proceed to call after him I was stopped by a hand wrapping around my wrist. Bewildered, I look behind me to see Kaoru.

" Kaoru! What's wrong with you and Hika-"

" We just had a fight so please... will you keep me company until we sort things out?"

The tone of his voice took me by surprise. I had never heard him so sorrowful before. His amber gaze was fixated on me showing a melancholic expression. I felt sympathy for him, I really did. I bet it was painful getting into an argument to someone he's so close too. Honestly, I'm slightly jealous. I wish I still had that kind of opportunity with my parents.

It might be slightly forward of me but I slipped my hand in his and gave his hand a gentle squeeze as I smiled with sympathy.

" Of course I will. But I may have to attend to duties at lunch and after school for a while but I'll let you know as soon as I'm free." I said downheartedly as I concluded.

He nodded in understanding. After realising, I was still in the classroom I quickly move my hand out of his, with my face flushing slightly as I turned around.

" Although whatever the cause of your argument is you shouldn't let it get in the way of your relationship with Hikaru. Arguments are too exhausting to fight if they last too long."

At that moment, I sat down avoiding any eye contact with anyone else in the room. Luckily, the teacher wandered in to start the first lesson of the day. The hours rolled by slowly as the twins were usually the centre of the cheery atmosphere in the class but it was left sombre from their mood and all the fangirls looked at them in worry.

The long awaited bell finally decided to ring indicating the start of lunch. As I start to organise the post it notes, several apprehensive girls come up to my desk. One of them twiddled their slender fingers avoiding my gaze.

" Umm... Hazel, do you know what's wrong with the twins?" She muttered quietly.

" You're all as clueless as I am. I wish I knew."

Another one chimed in, " That's a shame. We thought either you or Haruhi would know."

" The twins never tell me anything. Why would you think that?" I question puzzled.

" Well, since the twins seem so close to you we thought they would finally open up."

" Finally? Were the twins closed off from everyone?"

A slightly reflective expression appeared on the the girl's face as she began to talk, " You may not believe it but there was a time when the twins were quiet and kept to themselves. They only depended on each other. But they have changed a lot! Especially since Haruhi came here!"

So they were like me? It's hard to believe they were any different than they were now. They always look so full of life.

Out of curious, I ask," So what were the twins lik-"

I yelp as I start to be dragged away from the crowd.

" Sorry ladies but I need to borrow her for a while." Kaoru called.

Immediately, I start to protest, " Wait, I was talking to them!"

" They'll just have to wait a little longer." He stated simply.

" What about the requests I have to handle?! They won't go and do it themselves!"

" I already took care of that." He announced proudly.

With a child like grin, he held up one of the abhorrent, pasty coloured note. Written in fine, legible font was a request of his own. It read, ' Lunch with K.H.'

" When? How?"

" I wrote it while you were still talking to those girls. I figured that Nanami won't shout at you as long as you're completing a request, right?"

" Right!" I replied eagerly at the thought of a long waited break. But I stopped for a moment.

" What's wrong?" He wondered as he turned around briskly.

Sounding slightly depressed, I spoke, " My lunch is still in the classroom."

" Oh. If that's all, I can always get you lunch." He smiled as he spoke in a nonchalant manner.

" But that isn't fair on you." I protest then I added quietly, " Besides I packed all my favourites into the lunch."

A light scoff could be heard from his direction as his hand close to his face. He displayed a rare, genuine, joyful expression.

" Well, if you insist. I'll meet you in the dining hall."

With a swift nod, I turn back and retrace my steps. Hurriedly, I moved into the classroom and grasp the forgotten lunch. Just as I turn to leave, a figure blocks my path. The familiar chestnut haired girl appeared before me. Her chocolate eyes didn't hold their usual calmness; they glowed in confusion.

" Hi. Do you know where Hikaru disappeared?" She wondered.

" No idea. All I know is that they've had a fight recently."

Her lips pursed for a moment before she spoke again, " That would explain why he's been off with Kaoru. Do you know what it could be about?"

" I've got no idea."

" This is the first time they have had a real argument. I couldn't imagine them planning something like this."

Confused, I pondered, " Why would they plan a fight?"

" Those two were crafty enough to pretend to argue so that I would let them around to my house." She spoke in a grim tone.

Lightly, I chuckled, imagining the horror on Haruhi's face when she found out.

" That sounds rough. But I can't help but worry about them."

" I think they need someone to tell them when it's time to call it quits."

" So let's do something about it." I smiled in a devious way. The only way we can get them near each other is by tricking them.

Haruhi raised her fine eyebrows in curiosity as she asked, " What exactly do you have planned?"

" Please tell Hikaru to meet me in the host club's changing room after school and I have something important to tell him." I informed her bluntly.

" I will. But how do you know if he's going to show up?"

" Trust me. Once you tell him that he will definitely come." I smiled and wandered off towards the dining room where I had left Kaoru waiting.

Instantly, his flame orange hair was visible as he took a seat between the masses of people. Even on his own, he boldly stood out from the crowd, despite his relaxed demeanor. Brightly, his face lit up as he spotted me. His endearing smile caused my heart to quicken its pace.

" What are you standing there for? Come and sit down already." He called over joyfully.

Without hesitation, I perched on the seat to the right of him, opening my lunch carefully. A satisfied smirk spreads across my face as I feast on the sight of the food. I start to pounder what to eat first, I saw a piece of omelette start to drift away.

With a fast reaction, I precisely hook my nimble chop sticks on to the golden roll. However the roll was out of my grasp as the fork -which was stabbed through the centre, moved further away and he piece vanished straight into the devilish twin's mouth.

" My omelette." I spoke glumly gazing at the empty space left behind by the now consumed item.

" It didn't look like you were eating so I took it."

" But I was going to save it until the end!"

" You can't surely eat all that food by yourself." He raised a brow at my outburst.

" I can. After all I have a lot to do after school so I always pack more."

A brief sigh came from his direction and a clatter of a plate cause me to look up. Immediately my eyes lit up. It stood before me. The gorgeously frosted chocolate cake, covered with a hint of cream, seemed very inviting.

" I'll trade all of your omelette for this."

His offer was tempting. I stared at the cake. My pride lost the battle against my temptation.

Silently, I accepted the offer as I grasped the cake and slid my lunch box towards him. It's not often I get to try rich food. Even with one mouthful I felt as if I was in heaven! A light scoff could be heard from Kaoru's direction but that didn't bother me one bit. I couldn't complain. After all, who doesn't enough being close with their crush?

Lively chatter happened all around us as all eyes were on us. The absence of his twin was bound to cause a commotion. Despite being preoccupied with the delicious dessert, I could overhear conversations all talking about Hikaru.

Carefully I placed the spoon down and turned to look at Kaoru who had just finished the last of the omelette. Confused by my sudden pause, he looked over in concern.

" You know you can't keep avoiding Hikaru, don't you?" I stated bluntly looking directing into his glowing amber eyes.

" I know but may be some separation is good for us." He spoke in a melancholic tone.

Unsure, I furrowed my eyebrows at the statement.

" In what way is separation good?"

His eyes glazed over in emotion looking nostalgic as he spoke," Ever since we were born we have always stood by each other's side. When we are apart we can be seen as different people."

" So... you want independence."

" I suppose that's one way you could put it." He said distinctly, sounding as if he was lost in his thoughts.

Instantly I change to topic to suit my plan, " You are going to the host club today, aren't you?"

" No. I can't perform the usual act."

" Well, don't you have to tell the others that you won't be able to do your act?"

" I'm sure Haruhi will tell m'lord."

" But you don't want to be around Hikaru so wouldn't it be wise to go to the club room?"

" That's true but why do you want me to go to the club so badly?"

The bluntness of his question stunned me. Damn, he's catching on. Think!

Suddenly, I bellowed, " I need your help!"

" What with?"

" Um... I have to help plan an event for the club."

" An event for the club?" He repeated in a curious tone.

" Tamaki wants a commoner theme event that I have been told to help out with by Nanami. I need advice and Tamaki will be busy so please will you help me plan?"

" Sure."

Immediately, I smiled in delight. My plan was coming along just nicely. With the long, lingering tolls of the school bell indicated the end of lunch. Hurriedly, I packed up the remains of the lunch and prepare to dash.

" What are you rushing for?" He asked in a calm tone.

A little breathless, I said, " I don't know about you, but I need to be on time. It's one of the conditions for my scholarship."

" You never get the chance to relax." He stated.

" I do get the chance to!" I protested.

" What days are you working?"

" On weekdays I work evening and morning shifts."

" And what about weekends?"

" ... It's a fair amount of work."

" How do you make time for everything?"

" I have plenty of time to study and complete work so there's no problem."

" What about your friends?"

" One lives in America who I email every so often and the others are in another city. I had to move away and lost contact with them." I mentioned quietly.

" So you're a hermit." He concluded.

" No! I just have a lot of commitments." I reasoned, red faced.

Kaoru looked at the ground, with a thoughtful look present on his face. His lips moved but all I could hear was an inaudible murmur.

" I'm sorry, what did you say?"

Slightly surprised, he gazed at me and switched to a more neutral expression with a light smile.

" It's nothing." He started to wander on ahead and called teasingly, " Don't you want to keep your perfect record in tact?"

" Yeah. If we're late and Nanami starts to lecture me, you're explaining why."

" Sure. Now let's get going!"

Lightly, I jog to catch up with him wandering behind him. I couldn't get that look he had out of my head. He seemed almost... conflicted. Almost like he was trying to hide something behind that mask.

Deep in thought, I didn't pay attention to my surroundings and collided into a solid figure. For a moment, I staggered backwards but maintained my balance. Bewildered, I glanced up to see Hikaru.

" Don't you watch where you're going?" He spoke in an annoyed tone before he glanced downwards at me. " Oh... Hazel!"

" Sorry." I replied in an unusually shy tone.

" I.. I have to get to class!" He shouted frantically as he bolted through the door.

" But we're in the same class..." I sighed into the air.

It must still be awkward for him since that happened. Suddenly, remembering where I was supposed to be I quickly chased after him into the room. Kaoru was already sat on Haruhi's left gazing out the window, looking as if he wanted to avoid any kind of interaction.

Quietly, I made my way to the front of the room at my desk. Yet again, the minutes ticked by slowly with a still bitter atmosphere. After hours of constant information being drilled into our brains, we were finally given freedom.

Once again, Hikaru was quick to dash from my sight. I hope he's just going to the club room. If he isn't there my plan will fail.

" Aren't we going to the club?" Kaoru gestured towards the door but just as I was about to respond...

" Sorry to interrupt but I need to speak with Hazel privately." In her most professional tone, Nanami mentioned.

For a second, it seemed Kaoru gazed at her with a disapproving, narrowed stare.

Then, he adopted his famous host expression as he spoke, " Sure. I'll see you at the club."

Without a second glance, he wandered out of the room. Nanami's plastered mask fell as soon as she was sure Kaoru was out of hearing range. Silence loomed over. As I looked at her, her gaze had turned into hard blue diamond orbs.

" Where were you at lunch?" She shot at me bluntly.

I refused to feel intimidated by her gaze and stared directly into her eyes and spoke in a dutiful tone," Completing a request."

She sighed sharply. " What request allows you to go off with Kaoru Hitachiin?"

Honestly I answered, " He wrote the request himself."

For a moment she scoffed," Are you mocking me?"

" Of course not. Tokinawa-sam-"

" Stop with that sickly sweet tone already. Be honest. Why bother getting involved with the twins?"

" After all they have done for me, how can I not repay them?"

Nanami smiled cynically.

" You've fallen hard haven't you? Despite my orders and even warning you. Remember, you can't be with either of them. Remember, you're..."

" I am a servant of the Tokinawa household and I must not bring shame on the household." I replied hollowly.

" At least you remember you're position. Complete the requests left over from lunch. Then organise that silly event Tamaki was on about."

" Yes, Tokinawa-sama."

" Oh and I'm going home so I'll send the limo back for you."

" Yes Tokinawa-sama." I bowed down in her presence and only lifted my head when I was sure she left the room.

Deeply, I sighed and ran a hand through my brunette hair, brushing the strands away from my face. By the sound of it, she definitely knows it's one of the twins, but the question is does she know it's Kaoru? It seems I will have to pick up the pace otherwise she'll catch on.

Once again, I had been cornered.

Throwing my thoughts aside, I purely focus on the work at hand. Efficiency is the way forward!

After finally completing the post it notes, I proceed to the club where I'm sure both of the twins will be fed up. I just hope Hikaru hasn't ran off yet!

Opening the majestic doors, to the world of beauty as Tamaki would say, I peered in to see more extravagant decorations than usual. The whole room was decorated as a royal throne room with seven grand chairs with different coloured cushions for each of the members. Of course, Tamaki was placed in the centre wearing a formal, white princely outfit with had been lightly embroidered with gold which laced around the outline of the outfit.

Mori, Haruhi and Honey wore similar outfits expect they wore different colours. Kyoya lived up to the name of the shadow king dressed only in black with delicate silver decorating the edges.

Unfortunately neither of the twins were among them. My plan was already going pear shaped.

" Hazel! It's good to see you!" Tamaki leapt out of the seat with an overly joyous expression.

But just as he was about to grab me I near fell back and for the second time that day, Kaoru Hitachiin held me. Instantly, I tilt my head upwards to see his widely grinning face,

" I beat you to it, mi'lord." He teased as he stuck his tongue out mocking Tamaki immediately.

" But... That isn't fair! I haven't seen my daughter all day!" He whined. He twisted his head around seeking out for help, " Haruhi! Please help me with your sister! Kaoru's being mean again!"

As Haruhi turned to us she smiled lightly as she said, " You should leave them alone, senpai. I'm sure they have a lot to talk about."

Shocked by her response, I jerked my head in the opposite direction with a blush forming at a rapid pace. Honey only giggled and Tamaki looked very neutral all of a sudden.

" What could they need to talk about?" Then a teasing smile appeared on his face, " You're hiding something from me aren't you?"

" We're only organising that event you wanted so badly." Then Kaoru let go and instead patted me on the head. " And Hazel just needs my help. Right?"

I couldn't bring myself to look at his expression at the moment or respond. It's strange. That words he says so casually can hurt. It's not like he's aware of my feelings but...

" It was a commoner event you wanted." Kyoya announced with a sigh.

Within seconds, his eyes lit up brightly as he clasped his hands together, quick firing questions.

" Oh yes. A commoner event! Should we involve commoner games? Kick the can? Or what was that game we played? You know the one at the camp fire... I remember it was capture the flag, wasn't i-"

A hand hit the back of Tamaki's head which caused him to cease all his rambling.

" Nothing will got organised if you keep talking, senpai. Just let Hazel and Kaoru get on with it. They can handle it." Haruhi said frustrated.

" But, Haruhi!" He moaned with crocodile tears forming in the corner of his violet eyes.

" Umm... Tamaki-senpai, don't you have your customers waiting for you?" I interrupted awkwardly pointing in the direction of a group of giggling girls.

" I suppose I shouldn't keep them waiting. I trust the two of you will do an excellent job." He winked and then turned his attention to the customers. " My princess, my heart only yearned for you more as I left your side. However, now I am back with you all, I will earnestly enjoy every second with you by my side."

Once again, his suave charms had left the women in awe. The host club king was back in business.

A light thump on my head caused me to redirect my attention. A notebook was resting on my head. It was no surprise to see that Kaoru was the one who did it.

" It's it about time, we got on with this?" He smiled at my blank face.

Firmly I nodded. With both hands, I grasped the notebook and held onto it as I started walking to the table. Just as I was about to pull out the chair, it shifted away from me and out of the corner of my eye I glance to find Kaoru was holding out the chair.

A light blush sweeps across my face.

" Well, aren't you going to sit down?" He questioned.

I turned around and quietly murmured, " Thank you."

As he sat opposite me, I asked quickly, " I'm not a guest you know. You don't have to act like a host."

He smirk as he spoke," If mi'lord heard you say that he would be have a fit. He'd said a man must always act like a gentleman in a lady's presence."

" So it's different when you're teasing me?" I challenged.

" It's a part of the appeal. I'm not the devilish type for nothing." Cunningly he grinned.

" That's definitely true. Anyway, the commoner event we have to have instant coffee since you all seem to be crazy for it. Games seem to be on the agenda. What else?"

" How about desserts?"

" We should have homemade brownies! Since it's a commoner event you should have a budget!" I announced happily.

Kaoru laughed as he said, " I'm sure Kyoya-senpai would be happy about that."

Now it was time to ignite the plan.

Wondering, I asked," Are there any outfits we could use from the changing room?"

" We have plenty of outfits but what do you need them for?"

" I thought it would be nice for you all to dress up in something causal. I'm sure all the girls would appreciate it. You know what we should go and take a look now."

" Sure."

" You can on ahead, I'll just grab the book."

" Fine, I'll wait for you in the room."

As he turned his back, I followed behind closely.

Just as he was about to open the door, he spoke in an accusing tone, " You're up to something aren't you?"

At that moment the pale door opened to reveal a very annoyed twin and then each of them frozen and mirrored each other's shock. Seizing the moment, I lightly pushed Kaoru into the room and the pair collided and landed with a thud on the floor. Immediately, I slammed the door shut.

" Honey-senpai bring a chair! Quick!"

The cake eater demolished his cheesecake in one whole piece before running quickly with the chair hoisted on his back. As I shifted out of his way he propped the chair against the door.

" Thank you."

Thunderous thumps against the door echoed through the now silent room.

" Is this supposed to be a joke?!" An enraged Hikaru shouted through the wood.

" Yeah! Let us out! " Kaoru called out madly.

" I'm not letting you two out until you talk things out!"

" We have to go home you know!" They angrily bellowed at the same time.

I sigh. " The sooner you solve the problem the sooner you get out."

" You'll have to let us out soon!"

" You both need to know when to stop arguing. You can't let it go on. Whatever it is that has caused you to argue don't let it get between you. Call me selfish if you want but I don't want to see you arguing!"

The thumps stopped.

" I guess there's no other way. Fine! But expect you'll let us out in five minutes!" Hikaru sighed heavily.

" No compromises. Sort it or you'll stay in." I said in a stubborn tone.

" Ok! I get it already! Since when were she so stubborn?" As he murmured under his breath.

I frowned at the remark but decided not to react. No more interfering.

" What's going on?" Tamaki wandered over.

" Kao-chan and Hika-chan are in the changing room."

" Why would that happen?" Tamaki spoke with disbelief.

" Hopefully after this, the pair should finally make up." I murmured.

"What were they even arguing about in the first place?" He asked.

" I have no idea."

" I'm surprise at you Hazel. I thought you were more perspective than that." The shadow king commented from the other side of the room.

" What do you mean?"

" You'll find out soon enough." He said cryptically and he turned back to his all important work.

" Haz-chan. While we wait, why don't we have some cake?" Honey beamed excitedly.

Feeling peckish, I instantly agree," Sure. Do you have chocolate cake?"

He nodded twice firmly and ran off to the table that had a full spread of the desserts. The statement Kyoya said bugged me but I chose to ignore it and sat besides Mori. Silence loomed in the air as everyone was focus on the door, waiting painstakingly for the twins to finish. But Honey chose to ignore the tense atmosphere with him humming in delight as he sampled the different flavors.

" Do you think I was too rash?"

" May be you were." Honey said nonchalantly. For a moment I felt bad but Honey wasn't finished yet, " But may be you weren't. You shut Kao-chan and Hiki-chan in because you want to them to get along right?"

Bashfully, I spoke, " Yes."

" So you were only looking out for them. You've done your part."

" It's all up to them now." Mori finished and Honey smiled in agreement.

" Thank you." I smiled and finished the bittersweet cake.

Thump. Thump. The tense was heightened. The thumping continued from the other side of the door.

" Hey will you let us out now?" Hikaru wailed loudly.

Quickly, I jogged to the door and put my hand on the cool metal handle. The rest of the host club watched in awe and the ladies clasped their hands together tightly in hope.

" Have you stored everything out?" I called out hesitantly.

" Yes we have just open up already!" He complained.

" I need a response from Kaoru as well."

" We've stored everything out. You have my word." He called out calmly compare to his brother.

After the confirmation, my lips spread into a light grin. With a turn of the handle, the door opened.

Several girls hummed in anticipation with their hearts beating loudly. My jaw drops. The pair of incestuous twins had appeared. Small drops of tears bubbled in the edge of Kaoru's eyes that look endearingly at his brother. Hikaru looked down at his brother with relief present on his face.

" Hikaru, I never meant what I said. Do you think you'll ever forgive me?"

" How could I not forgive you? You're my brother no one could ever replace you. If anything, I'm the horrible one. Especially after everything I said." His voice low laced with affection.

" Don't say that! You're the only one for me! So please stay by my side."

Hikaru's blazer crinkled more from Kaoru's tightened grip. Slowly, Hikaru placed his hand over Kaoru's.

" I always will for better and for worse." He vowed.

Peacefully, they smiled as their foreheads touched. Squeals filled the room at an alarming rate.

" It's like a wedding vow!" One girl screamed.

Their placid smiles turned into sinister smirks as they faced me.

" So you locked us in the changing room didn't you?" They spoke in that we-are-planning-to-get-you-back tone. As they started to step forward, I edged backward.

Awkwardly, I laughed, " You both knew it was me to being with... and.. um. You came out of there better. So how about we call it even?"

I backed into a table and unable to move. Quickly, I directed my gaze to the floor and squeezed my eyes shut waiting for the worst to happen. A blast of sharp wind on my exposed neck caused to me to yelp. I bolted out of their grasp and breathed heavily. My heart thundering.

This can't be good for my health!

Their harmonious laughs were infectious as the customers also joined in on the moment. Happily, I grin at the sight.

" It looks like my job here is done." I whispered and walked out of the room going unnoticed.

Post it notes completed. Commoner event organised. Twin fight stopped. All that's left is to complete the night shift and go home. Like Nanami had said the limo was waiting out at the front with the driver occupied by the newspaper. A pleasant surprise was the door opened from the inside to reveal Hibiki and Ren dressed in sharp, slim fitting suits making them almost look like bodyguards.

" Wow this place is so fancy!" Hibiki marveled, with his ocean blue eyes focused on the structure of Ouran Academy as he stepped out of the car.

" You can say that again." Ren followed after him.

" Why are you here?" I asked confused.

" To see you of course!" Hibiki hugged me tightly.

" As happy as I am to see you, we have to get going. It's nearly time to prepare dinner for the masters and I bet you have charred the meat again haven't you?" I spoke in my professional tone.

" Ah... well-"

Heavily I sighed, " That must mean yes. Don't panic I have a back up plan."

" I know I can count on you!" Hibiki put up his thumps pulling a silly face,

" Of course, you can. Who else would bail you out? Ren, please say you have saved some spare ingredients? " I giggled.

" Yeah. But we aren't going back to the manor just yet." Ren added ominously.

" We are representing Akito Tokinawa as your guardians today." Hibiki saluted dutifully.

" What's going on?"

" Akito has been informing the school principle about your situation and we're here to update."

" Couldn't you have just sent an email or rung him?" I wondered.

" It was requested that they meet in person but Akito had an urgent meeting and we were appointed since we're always with you." Ren informed me.

That would explain why they are dressed in fancy suits.

"Alright, I'll take you there." I groaned.

The longer I'm delayed the longer my shift will be. Oh well, I can't win them all.

Hibiki hummed happily in front of me. Me and Ren were getting slightly annoyed by the same repetitive tune. Is there ever a moment where he's not so happy go lucky?

" So how's your day been?' Ren asked causally.

" Being a problem solver and post it girl. Besides that nothing new."

" I bet you were those guys from the host club again." Hibiki interrupted with a sly smirk plastered on his face.

I felt myself blush slightly and I coughed, " Well, of course I was. There was an order from Nanami to help with event organising. That's all."

" You liar. I bet you were with that guy you like so much."

Crimson covered my whole face. Instantly, Hibiki laughed but he stopped abruptly at the sound of a thud. A girl had been knocked onto the ground with her books scattered around. Ren and I started to help by picking up the book. Just as the girl opened her eyes she look on in wonder as Hibiki had bent down and offered out his hand.

" I'm incredibly sorry. Here take my hand." He said chivalrously.

A soft blush apparent on her face she ducked her head and murmured a small thank you as we handed her the books and she took off as swift as the wind.

" You certainly had an effect on her." I spoke in a stunned tone.

" What can I say? I just have natural charm. But not as much as the host club that affect Hazel." He spoke in a fake smug tone.

" You're at the office so why don't you go in?" I raised my voice slightly but it didn't affected him at all as he proceeded into the office with a knowing smile and both me and Ren followed after him.

" Hello, Mr Suoh. I'm Ren Kita and this is Hibiki Mino. We are here on the behalf of Akito Tokinawa. We would like to thank you for taking care of Hazel. It's a pleasure to meet you." Simultaneously, both of them bowed.

" No, the pleasure is mine. It's a shame that Akito couldn't make it in person, but I see he places his trust in both of you. He rarely sends anyone in his stead."

The school principle's cinnamon coloured eyes greeted us warmly unlike the hostility of Akito usually shows us. His umber coloured hair was swept away from his face in an orderly fashion. He stood with a proud posture and wore a pastel brown suit. The way he spoke was with a certain suave charm that I had seen before. Almost like Tamaki.

Wait... Tamaki's surname is Suoh. How didn't I make this connection earlier? It definitely possible that they are related.

" Please take a seat." He gestured to the plush red settee.

I sat at the edge with my bag placed carefully on my lap. Ren was in the centre gazing directly at the principle and Hibiki sat calmly on his right.

" So Hazel how have you been finding school so far?" The brown eyes found me, meeting my gaze directly.

" It's fine. My grades are improving and I'm managing to fit it around work fine."

" But what about extra curricular activities? I imagine you would want to join a club."

" I sometimes go around to the host club for a while."

" So you would have met my son. I hope he hasn't been causing you trouble with his capricious schemes." He said with slight distant tone.

" Quite the opposite, Sir. He and the host club have been nothing but helpful to me. I'm grateful that took time to help me. They definitely shown me many things and give me experiences I never thought I'd have. You should be proud of Tamaki. He has a kind heart." I said staunchly.

For a moment, the principle's smiles faltered almost taking on a reflective expression.

" I'm glad they are making you feel welcome. Would you like to step outside while we talk? I'm sure our conversation will seem fairly dull." He spoke in a patient tone.

" Um... Yes, Sir." Hurriedly, I bowed, placed my bag on the side of the settee and shuffled through the door.

A sigh of relief escapes me. At least now I don't have to listen to them talk about me in front of me. I wonder if I accidentally stepped on a land mine when I mentioned the host club.

Lost in my thoughts, I lean against the wall finally taking my first break of the day. However the tranquility for more than five minutes as a familiar voice echoed around the walls of the corridor.

" Oh look what we have here? A dog without her master." The ever spiteful Monica was back again. Her light brown hair was drawn to the side in a long braid and her metallic grey eyes were looking at me in disgust.

Bitterly, I shot her a fierce look.

Her mocking tone continued, " Cat got your tongue? It's a shame you don't have your beloved host club with you now. Maybe you can hide behind them again."

I chose to ignore her. She's pathetic. Picking on me because she has nothing better to do.

" And you and hide behind those idiots you came in with earlier. And what was that about his 'natural charm'? There's nothing good about that guy. He's disgust-"

" SAY ONE MORE WORD! I DARE YOU!" I exclaimed furiously.

My fist shaking. Anger boiling. My breath uneven from shouting. Thoughts scattered. But my vision was focused on her.

" Oh. It seems like I hit a nerve." She seemed satisfied by my reaction. But I didn't stop there.

" Ridicule me all you like but don't ridicule people who are better than you in so many ways!"

" Better in what way? Do share. All I see are lowly dogs." She scoffed.

" Monica, you are asking for it."

" Asking for what? What could you do to me? Tokinawa bitches."

My body moved before I could think. As I ran at her, she let out a scream which cause the door to burst open.

" What's go on here?" A strict, authoritative tone took over and it caused me to half a couple of steps in front of her.

I was scared to turn around. I lost it. I just complete lost it. Reluctantly, I turned to see their disapproving looks.

" Sir she was going to attack me!" Monica cried out fearfully.

" Both of you in the office now!" Principle Suoh ordered.

With downcast eyes, I lead the way into the office. I could feel Ren and Hibiki's gazes on my back. No doubt they will be worried.

" Please wait outside until we're done." He said softly as he shut the door.

A scornful look came from Monica as she looked at me.

" Monica Hori, don't think I didn't see that." He scolded.

Immediately she adopted a helpless look. Tension was thick in the air like a Winter fog. The continuous tap of shoe soles on the tiled floor echoed each filling me with more dread as the time slowly passed.

" I suppose neither of you are going to speak first so Monica why don't you fill in the details of the event?"

Monica looked far more composed than I did and was ready to perform her side of the story.

" She started it. I was being friendly with her but when I asked her why she was in trouble with the principle. She snapped and... was going to attack me!" Monica could act.

" Right. Now Hazel, your side of the story."

I took a deep breath speaking monotone, " I was stood outside. Monica came around the corner. She started by calling me... ' a dog without her master'. Then she started to bad mouth Hibiki and Ren. Then... I lost it. I wasn't thinking."

" I will need you both to write your accounts down." His tone of voice wasn't revealing anything.

Formal documents were placed in front of us. Then a pair of silver tipped fountain pens were placed at the side. Monica was straight away writing her side of the story with her pen roughly scribbling away. As I took the pen in hand, my hand wouldn't stop shaking. My blood was still rushing from the adrenaline earlier. When the pen connected to paper, blobs of ink formed around the scruffy, illegible handwriting.

" Maybe you should write your account when you're calmer." The sheet slid away from me and Monica's away from her.

Suoh's expression went to grave as he read over the sheet. His lips were pursed together and his eyebrows narrowed. Thick creases formed on his forehead, clearly showing he was thinking hard.

" Monica, do you always write in this style?" He interrogated.

" Y-yes, I do." Her voice unsteady, unsure.

My gaze was once again focused on the floor, staring blankly.

" Correct me if I'm wrong but this is your handwriting isn't it?" A small slam on the desk caused Monica to gasp sharply.

Immediately, I look up to see the same sickly yellow note that had been crumpled in my bag with the word 'dog' written on it. Others were also scattered across the desk. A small bleak of hope rose within me.

" It isn't! There are plenty of other people who write in similar ways." She objected.

" This is certainly disappointing. It's rather foolish to continue protesting. We overheard the argument earlier."

Monica shut her mouth tight after that remark.

" I'll escort you to reception where you will wait for your parents to arrive and then you will come and see me again once they are here. Hazel, you stay here we need to have a long chat." His voice was still stern.

The breath, I hadn't realised I had been holding, escaped at the click of the door. My heart finally started to calm down. Suoh wasn't gone for long. At the second click of the door, I immediately sat up.

But he wasn't alone this time, a clatter of heels followed with the shaking of metal colliding with pots echoed. Carefully, he seated himself in front of me.

" Would you care for some tea?" A soft feminine voice asked.

" Please."

" Milk?"

"Yes, please."

" Sugar?"

" Three please."

Softly she laughed, " They say that sweet things ease anything bitter."

Suoh cleared his throat as a sign and quickly she fumbled through the pots. A delicate china cup and saucer was placed in front of me.

" Thank you."

" You're welcome, Miss."

The women ran out of the room. Comically she came back to bow and shot out the door. Carefully, I wrap my hands around the cup seeking for the warmth. Heat coursed through my hands from my fingertips. I indulge the rich scent of tea and took a deep breath relaxing.

" When did all this start?" Straight to the point and no messing around as expected of the principle.

" After my first two weeks here at Ouran." I bluntly answered.

" Why didn't you tell someone?" He asked concerned.

" What would be the point? She could utter one lie to the Tokinawas and that's it. My time at Ouran would be finished. I would be lucky if I kept my job." My voice still in monotone.

" Akito would never do that. Especially, after the fire at the estate. As someone so young you have lost as much. He knows you'd break if you had anything else to deal with. Depend on the school more. We can help you." He pleaded.

" Thank you Sir."

" Since this is the fist time you've acted out of line. We will look past it this once but you'll be under close observation for a while. Your teachers will report to me about your behaviour."

" Thank you S-"

" Hey Dad! How are you?" An energetic voice shouted.

" How many times have I told you Tamaki? You have to call me Principle while we are at school."

Swiftly, I turn around to see Tamaki had waltzed into the office in a carefree manner.

" But it's after hours and besides there's no one else around... Oh Hazel's here! But what is you doing here? Wait, what's all this?" He exclaimed as he saw the notes.

" Tamaki it's a private conversation so would you please st-"

" Did someone send all these to you? Why didn't you tell us sooner?" Tamaki said sounding slightly hurt.

" Tamaki. Please leave for now. We are currently in the middle of a serious talk." His voice was raise slightly.

" Ok if you say so. But expect some answers." Tamaki sounded serious as he exited the room.

Heavily, he sighed, " I'm sorry about that. He's too oblivious to notice a serious atmosphere."

Lightly, I smiled as I looked out of the window at the clock tower.

" Sometimes it's best to be blissfully ignorant. It makes life seem so much brighter."

" I suppose that's one benefit. Now, Monica will be dealt with accordingly and if she doesn't stop I will give her a more severe punishment. Those two men outside... you care dearly for them, don't you?"

" Those two have been by my side for several years. It's hard to believe I didn't get along with Hibiki at first but he has a big heart and Ren was always like a responsible older brother. If they weren't with me at that time, I don't know how I would cope."

" They seem like great people. They said similar things as well. Come here to talk to me, if you have any more troubles. "

" Thank you, Sir."

He shook his head in disapproval. " Don't call me Sir, that's too formal. Call me Uncle."

He beamed brightly with a royal red rose. This cause me to start laughing. They're so much alike! I guess the family is growing.

" What's so amusing?" He questioned with a raised brow.

" I already call Tamaki-senpai Daddy so that would make you brothers! Since I'm a daughter that should make you..." I pressed my lips to suppress my laughter.

" I'm not old enough to be called Grandfather or anything like that. Please stick with Uncle."

" Alright, Uncle."

" I'm sure the gentlemen outside will be worried. You should be heading off."

Just as I was about to pick up my bag, I paused for thought and asked," Oh, how did you find out about the notes?"

" It happened to fall out of your school bag as you left the room earlier." He stated in a matter of face tone.

" Alright. I'll guess I should be going. Bye Uncle." I grinned as I shut the door behind me.

Before, I had to chance to greet the pair, I was grasped in a bone-crushing hug.

" Hazel, how are you?" Hibiki spoke in distress.

" Can't... breathe!" I whispered breathlessly.

" Sorry!" Instantly, he let go and I felt the air flood back into my lungs.

" Why were you fighting with her?" Ren asked directly.

Of course, Ren was going to be the one who asked.

Bashfully I glanced at the floor, " I was provoked."

" What did she say?" He pressed for an answer.

Stubbornly, I crossed my arms and avoided his penetrating stare.

" If you think I was going to stand back while she ridiculed you both, you have another thing coming."

" You don't have to defend us. Focus on yourself for once." Ren murmured as he ruffled my hair.

" That isn't going to stop me, you know?"

My remark caused his green eyes to light up with admiration and he smirked widely,

" Of course it won't. I know you too well. You're a good person."

" Thanks. But if I were that good I wouldn't have resorted to violence." I chuckled.

" Hey, we all have our moments. Now how about we head back?" Hibiki put has arm around my shoulder, dragging me towards the exit and limo.

Finally, we had made it back to the manor where there were many chores to keep me busy. Nanami surprisingly didn't question me about the host club and luckily she hadn't heard about that incident yet. My shift ended at ten when the sun had disappeared and replaced with a clear night sky. The limo ride home was peaceful enough.

But as I was about to make it to my door, there was a tall figure in a delivery suit with a lot of boxes.

" Are you Hazel Marvel?"

" Yes."

" Good. We have a delivery for you." He said in a tired tone.

" I didn't order anything."

" They're a gift."

" Who from?"

" We can't reveal the information but they sent a message."

I was handed a neatly decorate envelope and I open it quickly.

' You look tired recently. I hope these make you feel better! Anonymous.'

Frowning at the letter, I looked at the delivery man who shrugged his shoulders.

" Fine, bring them in and thank you."

After several cardboard boxes were piled up the man wished me good night and shut the door. With the boxes occupying the door way, I opened one. I frowned at the mystery object.

" Cherries, really?"

Quickly, I teared apart box after box to find all of them contained cherries. How am I supposed to finish all these?! I could make cherry bakewell tarts, cherry scones, cherry parfait...

I will start to look like one if I have to eat all these!

Anonymous. What a stereotypical name to chose! Who was this anonymous anyway?

Frustrated, I turn in for the night. Unknowing that more parcels will be waiting in the near future...
