FireCacodemon: Welcome back to another chapter of The Death Spark. I don't own Darker than Black or Death Note. Hope you enjoy the chapter.
Chapter 5
Misaki was busy typing away on her computer, on the screen there was a table presented, on one side of the table was positives and the other side had negatives. Misaki looked at the screen to see that there were more negatives than positives about the Reaper's disappearance. She was told by Li that he wasn't going to be in town as he was going to head back to China to see his family. He didn't even have a phone, what student didn't have a phone?
"BK-201's doll said that BK-201 was never going to be uncovered...but not even she knew where he went. BK-201 doesn't seem like the type of contractor who would abandon a doll," Misaki sighed before she heard footsteps coming towards her. Her attention snapped to the sound to see what was coming towards her. Her eyes widened slightly as she saw April, the blue haired contractor who manipulated the weather. A usual can of beer was located in her hand while she walked towards her with the doll, July. The young male held the same emotionless expression on his face, his winter looking coat covered most of his body, his short blond hair kept out of his eyes and a red hat was placed on his head.
"Not still going on about BK-201?" April asked Misaki.
"He's disappeared, star faded."
"Then isn't that a good thing? He's no longer causing chaos in Tokyo?" April asked.
"But he's not dead; I'll feel safer when he's dead."
"Misaki hun, think about the positives," April said as she walked closer to her.
"Which means?"
"He's out of our hair now, he's someone else's problem."
"No, we've got experience with BK-201, anyone else and the whole city won't ex-" Misaki was stopped by April placing her finger on her lips.
"What would BK-201 get out of killing everyone where he is?"
"If he feels threatened, he'll lash out."
"True, but if he can't be found then we don't have to worry about him anymore."
"That isn't the point!" Misaki yelled at April.
"Seems like someone doesn't like the idea that the Black Reaper escaped," a strong male voice entered the room. April and Misaki turned their attention to a blond haired English man wearing a white business suit with a blue shirt and pink tie. He smiled as he walked towards the two members of his team and Misaki.
The Death Spark – Chapter 5
Hei wandered around the city more, his encounter with Light and Ryuzaki proved to be useless to him. He didn't have any clue on what he should do now, with the headphones constantly picking up static he wasn't getting anything from the Syndicate, the one company who pulled his strings. He hated it, sitting in his apartment or wandering around aimlessly trying to pick up something which he was missing. The whole situation was just stupid! He couldn't keep going to Misa or things will start looking suspicious, Ryuzaki didn't take his eyes off him when they were with each other. Light had the IQ but he acted like just like every other teenager would. Hei hated it; he wanted to return back to his second life, the life as the Black Reaper.
Going out as the Black Reaper was only going to cause issues while providing him with some form of entertainment. Hei missed Mao, the black cat with purple eyes and a red collar and bell, the jingle of the bell altered Hei when Mao was near. He wanted to return back to Yin, the silver haired doll he protected like he protected his sister in the past. She was the reason he was as tame as he was now. Any harm on Yin and he wouldn't forgive himself. Huang was the human of the group who often smoked and gave all three of them a hard time. Even though Huang gave them a hard time, they got their jobs done and became a main team if needed to get something valuable.
A jingle was heard, Hei turned his attention out the window, and a black cat was walking along the top of the nearby wall, a blue collar instead of red. Hei growled as he walked away from the window, the tiny bit of hope that he was found by the Syndicate faded. They wouldn't leave him on his own; Hei went for a very high price if he was sold to another company. Contractors had more control over themselves while dolls did what they were told and needed looking after.
Hei moved away from the window and turned his attention towards the kitchen, his stomach growled in annoyance. Hei couldn't help but sigh at his stomach, it growled when he was with Light and Ryuzaki which is why he needed to end the conversation short with them. He didn't exactly want to show them his appetite; he could show Misaki it as Li but anyone else he felt would be trouble.
Moving to the kitchen he started to prepare his meal, grabbing everything he could he started getting ready to make some pasta from scratch, nothing beat fresh food. He started but heard the doorbell, looking over his shoulder he looked at the door. He washed all the flour off his hands and walked over to the door.
Opening the door his eyes widened as he saw Misa standing there.
"Hey Li," Misa greeted him.
"M-Misa, what brings you around here?" Hei asked trying to quickly get back into being the sweet and innocent student he should have been.
"Well, Light's working again and I wanted to hang out with you again, we had a blast last time," Misa informed Hei, the scent of food drifted towards her; she took a sniff from the air and smiled. "You're cooking?"
"Yeah, I'm cooking," Hei replied.
"Can I come in? If that isn't a problem, if not I'll drop by later?" Misa asked.
"That's fine, come on in. I've just started so it might be a while before it'll be ready."
"Thanks Li, wish Light could cook more..." Misa pouted slightly, she was the one who did the cooking or they went out for a meal.
"Why?" Hei asked.
"Well, as much as I love professional food, it just feels nice when Light cooks me something. I'm the one who normally cook things."
"Ah, a friend of mine told me that a man who can cook can't be trusted."
"Where's your friend now?" Misa asked.
"She was killed...just like the rest of them," Hei told her. She fell silent, his friends were killed? How can someone be so happy when they said goodbye to their friends forever? If her Light died...she didn't want to continue living. Light was her boyfriend and she loved him, but with Li told her about his friends, saying they were all killed...she felt guilty for having Light. Maybe Ryuzaki, but he was a bit too difficult for her to handle.
"What...are you making?" Misa asked after a few minutes of silence drifted between the two of them. She watched as Li walked into the kitchen.
"I'm going to be making ramen, starting from scratch, why?" Hei asked his companion.
"You make things from scratch?" Misa asked innocently.
"Best way to have it fresh than having it another way," Hei told her as he prepared his food. He didn't mind too much what Misa was doing with her time but she needed to understand that fresh food often made dishes more delicious than cooking from frozen.
"Yeah but it takes longer," Misa stated the obvious.
"True, but I would rather eat fresh than something which is already made in a factory or something like that."
"Hmm...Didn't really think about it like that."
"Want me to show you the difference?" Hei asked Misa.
"Wouldn't that mean we'll have to leave your apartment and grab something?"
"Well, yeah but I plan on letting you try three different samples."
"Are you joking?"
"Nope, I'm not joking."
"Man of your word?"
"I try to be," Hei joked slightly.
"Well, I can't wait for you to prove me wrong," Misa smiled.
The Death Spark – Chapter 5
Light watched as Ryuzaki frantically searched on the laptop for more evidence on his suspicion that Li was connected to the masked man. With the radiation the masked man gave off was something he wasn't expecting either. Humans used electrical and chemical signals in their body to send messages from the senses or commands from the brain. Sending electricity directly from the hand into someone else was something no one should have control over. No one was stupid enough to create an experiment that controlled electricity either.
Light shook his head and turned his attention off Ryuzaki while he worked, the stinging sensation that Ryuzaki was too absorbed into trying to figure out who the masked man. Taking out a text book, Light started to work on his school work. He still had his text books from school and continued to expand his knowledge. Ryuzaki wasn't too keen on Light doing school work but he didn't care, it was his life and that wasn't going to change. If Ryuzaki wanted to spend ages trying to work on this new case while Kira was pushed aside then be his guest. He felt it was going to be a good break from Kira, without Kira's activity as well, their trail was going cold. The masked man on the other hand, was a fresh trail where they could learn something about a new.
"It doesn't make sense..." Light turned his attention back to Ryuzaki. The male was biting on his thumb like he usually did when he was thinking deeply.
"Ryuzaki, some things can't be explained without catching what anomaly first," Light sighed.
"Then we need to capture the masked man the next time we see him," Ryuzaki said softly.
"How are you going to catch him?"
"I don't know Light, but if and when I do catch him, I'll be learning everything I can about him and how he got the ability he has. If he works for Kira then we'll have our trail again."
"You're forgetting something."
"What's that Light?"
"What if he isn't working for Kira?"
"Then we find out who he works for and what his job is," Ryuzaki said as he started typing on the computer. Light shook his head and went back to work.
The Death Spark – Chapter 5
"BK-201 can't have just disappeared from here!" Misaki yelled.
"November 11, what do you think might have happened?" April asked her companion. The tall British male gave out a small chuckle, seeing Misaki like this was something he wasn't ever going to feel. He was too cool for that.
"Well...someone could have gotten bored and so used their ability to create a rip, BK-201 just happened to either be pushed or fell through without meaning too," November 11 said, pulling out a pair of sunglasses.
"So a contractor has the ability to create rips. It's possible that they used it to send the Reaper somewhere. Making sure he's out the way so that their company didn't have to worry about the Reaper screwing up the plans."
"No contractor was active when star BK-201 disappeared from the sky, so it wasn't a contractor who caused it," Misaki said reading the reports from Astronomic. November11 froze slightly; if a contractor didn't do it...then did PANDORA get involved with this?
"PANDORA, they better not get involved," November 11 said quietly.
"What would happen if they did?" Misaki asked.
"Naturally, removing the Black Reaper is a blessing for everyone but the company and team he works for. On the other hand, the Reaper's done a good job at catching dolls being sold off to abusive people, striking fear into contractors and killing the ones who threaten the lives of the innocent humans. I've been thinking it over for the time."
"Murder is still murder, just because BK-201 committed murder on enemy contractors doesn't mean it's legal."
"I'm aware of that Misaki, but he's done something the police haven't been able to do. He escapes leaving no trace that he's been there but when his star is active. We don't even know his codename; we call him the Black Reaper or BK-201 without knowing his code name. His life or anything like that remains a total mystery. He shows up when there's trouble and vanishes the moment it's settled. He's been inside Hell's Gate without being driven crazy. Something contractors suffer when they get near a hot spot."
"He still needs to be captured and killed."
"Of course...Unless...The MI-6 get Mr. BK-201 first," November 11 gave Misaki a smile.
"That'll mean finding the correct way to open up another realm...That could be very dangerous," Misaki said, she wanted to find BK-201 as soon as possible so that she could unmask BK-201, put BK-201 behind bars or a possible execution. She couldn't let November 11 catch him, not before she was finished with him.
The Death Spark – Chapter 5
Misa watched Li clean up all the dishes that he used. The meal was delicious; she could easily tell the differences in the meals that Hei had made from scratch to the food that came from the local supermarket. It took a lot of time to prepare but it was worth it in the end. Li knew his way around the kitchen. Misa giggled thinking back to when it was her and Light; her only real friend back then before the gap in her memory appeared. Now she had more friends but her two boys were Light and Li.
"Li, there's something I've been waiting to ask for a while..." Misa started to say drawing Li's attention from the washing up. "You're single, right?"
"Yes...I kind of want to remain single..." Li replied.
"But, you can get anyone. You're sweet, cute, and attractive."
"It also makes me more vulnerable to people."
"Vulnerable?" Misa asked confused.
"Personality types like mine...People can easily walk over me. Believe they can have their way with me because I'm the sweet natured student." Misa sat in silence as Li finished the washing up and went to dry his hands. Misa thought about his words. He was right, personalities like Li always wound up hurt. Misa giggled as Li walked into the room and gently sat down across from Misa, a smile on his face.
"You're right Li." Li nodded.
"I'm fine being single. I've got my friends back home and that's all I need."
"You're just happy with your friends, huh?"
"Staying single has a sacrifice, you get really lonely remaining single but you reduce the risk of getting hurt by your partner."
"When I first saw you, I thought you were a total idiot," Misa laughed. Li laughed with her, he knew what she was meaning he didn't really care. Another reason why he preferred to be Li. Li never took offence to anything; if he was acting as Hei then he would have probably killed Misa by now.
"So, what do you do in your spare time?" Li asked her.
"I try and hang out with Light as much as possible...it isn't always possible. Anyway, I want to know more about you? You can cook amazing food; you prefer to stay single while many other males I know would happily get together with someone else."
"Well, there isn't really much to know about me, I'm kind of boring."
"I don't believe that," Misa sang slightly. Li wasn't boring in the slightest. He could do so much and he was putting himself down. Misa got up from her space and held out her hand to Li. Li watched her get up watching her curious before he saw Misa held out her hand.
"Going to prove me wrong?" Li asked.
"Yeah, come on." Misa grabbed Li's hand and gently tugged him outside. Misa giggled as she pulled Li outside, he slipped out of her grasp to try and return to his room but Misa took hold of him again and ran off. Li was practically dragged by Misa while she ran but soon found his legs and they moved in time with Misa's legs.
The Death Spark – Chapter 5
"You've been a little inactive, isn't it time you brought Kira back into the game?" Rem's voice whispered to the business man. The Death Note was resting on the desk, no name had been written in ever since the masked man came into town. A black pen lay next to the book, light shone on the desk from a desk lamp. The Shinigami named Rem waited. His skeletal body and piercing yellow eye watched the book and pan.
"Rem, you have to understand what I'm planning. The police are occupied with this new figure to pay much attention to Kira. If he can kill through touch then what's there to fear? I can hide using him."
"Is that wise?"
"I'm going to test it out, see if I can influence him to kill in the name of Kira. It's possible right?"
'That isn't what Light Yagami had planned...' Rem thought to herself. Looking at the video, names flickered above the masked man's head. She wasn't sure which name was his real name; it looked as if the soul wasn't sure on its name anymore. Even with the Shinigami eyes, guessing the real name of the man was going to be a struggle.
"The Death Note will be able to do anything as long as the name of the person written in the book dies."
"What's his name?" Rem looked at the human before she looked back at the video. He was an anomaly, a being which shouldn't even be in this world. This wasn't his world Rem could easily see from the video that he wasn't supposed to be in this world. Something had caused a rip and he just happened to fall through. She only knew of one being who could have done that...they passed on millions of years ago. So what could be doing it now?
