FireCacodemon: Welcome back to another chapter of The Death Spark. Sorry for the long wait guys. Things have been getting in the way.
Hei: Darker Than Black belongs to Tensai Okamura.
L: Death note belongs to Tsugumi Ohba.
FireCacodemon: Well, I'll let you guys get onto the chapter.
Chapter 7
L crouched down on the bench; he didn't really care much about what Misa and Light were going on about. As the topic was about Misa's next steps into her model life, he shut himself off and thought back to the videos. Both Kira and the masked man were pretty active with their activity. The masked man and the other female who emitted the same radiation was something he'll need to be careful of. Her 'skills' were different to that of the masked man. She must know of him seeing as she called him 'BK-201' while fighting against him. He knew that experiments were often called codenames instead of real 'human' names due to the fact that they are artificial life beings. Born from someone's insanity (as Light had once said) which he did agree with. Many times had Light had put on a movie which had a scientist creating a life from science and the many occasions something was wrong and both the experiment and the creator were killed. These two 'super humans' were different.
The park was quiet as most people were off on holiday, working, doing school or other useful things with their lives. L mentally sighed, it wasn't his fault that he was stuck with 2 Kira suspects while the possibility of the two experiments are off possibly causing who knows what in the city. L looked up from the sky, it was pretty empty. It looked more like a big light blue incomplete painting, missing the clouds and birds. The sun would be up there too...if his back wasn't facing the sun. His 'companions' next to him seemed to be enjoying the atmosphere created by the park, how he wished he was back in the office. Back at his computer while trying to solve the impossible cases which were presented to him. One he picked up on his own without the other police telling him, Kira was the case given to him at the start.
"And so that's what Li told me," Misa chirped happily. L froze. Li, the mysterious person who's entered Misa's life because he got lost in the city. Even now something seemed off about this Li person. Even when they did meet once, he wore a mask which seemed to fool Light, but not L. L knew he was hiding something, something he didn't want the others around him to find out, his little secret.
"So, how often do you see Li?" L heard Light ask. L couldn't help but smirk slightly at his tone of voice. The mixture of worry and frustration that Misa's been talking about what her and Li have done.
"Not so much now that he's got a job," Misa admitted, frowning slightly. L felt Light tense up a little.
"Where does he work?" Light asked. L couldn't help but tune into this conversation now. L needed to take this opportunity, and quickly.
"He said he works in one of the toy shops."
"A toy shop huh? Kinda lame if you ask me," Light laughed.
"How naive can you get, Light?" L thought to himself.
"Better than working with the police who aren't paying you," Misa countered Light.
"Of course we're not paying him. He's a Kira suspect," L thought to himself again, smirking ever so slightly by his thought. The interesting conversation seemed to have dropped after that. It didn't prove to be interesting any more as Misa went back to gossiping. Light just nodded and listened, speaking very little about the subject.
"Miss Amane?" L looked away from the sky and towards Misa. She dropped the conversation with Light and looked towards him.
"Yes?" She asked, slightly irritated that L was talking to her.
"Where did you say Li worked?"
"The toy shop near the shopping centre, why?"
"I want to pay him a visit," L simply said.
"Much rather stay with Light, on this bench." she pointed down to the bench. Light smiled slightly, he wasn't going to see Li. They would probably get into an argument over something and Misa and L weren't going to get involved.
"Fine, you can stay here while me and Light go and see him," L said as he got up from the bench and started to walk off towards the toy shop. He felt the handcuff tug; looking down at the metal handcuff keeping him tied to Light. It was a little annoying as he couldn't do whatever he wanted but it was safer than letting Light roam free and would probably have killed more people. He yanked on the handcuff, forcing Light to get up from the bench and follow him to his destination.
The Death Spark – Chapter 7
Hei looked up at the toy store, already in the multi-coloured uniform that was delivered to him after being accepted. The toy store was brightly coloured on the outside to stand out from the other shops around. The fact that the shop had posters and toys in the shop windows aided the fact that it was a toy shop. Hei looked down at his name badge, his alias name was written on the name tag he was given. Hei couldn't complain; it kept his secret a secret. Hei smiled and pushed open the door to the shop, a jingle of a bell could be heard signifying someone has entered the shop. The bell chine reminded Hei of his team mate. The black cat named Mao.
"Ah, Li, welcome to Toy Paradise. You'll be working under me in order to learn the ropes," A young male spoke to Hei while Hei nodded and smiled. "I'm Yoshiaki." Hei gently shook Yoshiaki's hand. Better get along with the other workers in the shop in order to fully enjoy the job given.
"It'll be a pleasure to work under you sir. I'm Li," Hei gave the trade mark smile. Yoshiaki nodded and let go of Hei's hand.
"For the time being, I'll show you around the shop. Are you good with kids?"
"I'm good with children, why?" Hei looked slightly confused at Yoshiaki. He knew that children are most likely going to be the customers and that they can get a little silly with the shop full of toys.
"Well, an event which happens here every week is that I always entertain the children who come here," he scratched the back of his head.
"I'd love to help you with that."
The Death Spark – Chapter 7
"Here it is," Misa said as she pointed towards the door of Toy Palace, Light and Ryuzaki looked at the building. Ryuzaki took the first step and went to push open the door. The whole atmosphere was something that they never expected to step back into, the child friendly atmosphere which prevented the society with Kira and the masked man from touching. The child innocence was something that always had a home in a toy shop.
"Light, why do you think Li would work in a place like this?" Ryuzaki asked Light.
"I don't know Ryuzaki? I know why I would work and that would be for money?" Light asked Ryuzaki. He just looked at Light before he slowly left Light's side and went to have a look around the shop, Light had to follow him slowly when the tug of the handcuff causing him to follow. Misa sighed before she went to look around the shop; it wasn't unusual for Ryuzaki dragging Light around. It was something which happened since the whole Kira case.
Ryuzaki wandered around the shop, looking at the toys which were stacked on the shelves. Soft toys, board games, along with any other sort of toy were present on the shelves. If there was something a child wanted, this building normally had it. The only tool possible missing was the ability to build a toy, like the build-a-bear toy shops around the world can do. Light looked around the shop, they were kind of on a mission to find Li and then Ryuzaki's going to intimidate the male about this masked man. Light himself; was going to bother Li with questions as to what he was doing talking to his girlfriend a lot more than other people. Misa was his girlfriend and he wasn't going to let Li take her away from him. It didn't take along before they saw Li stacking some shelves with plush wolves. Ryuzaki walked straight towards him.
"Mr. Shengshun?" Ryuzaki asked. Li turns his attention towards Ryuzaki, the two males let their eyes meet, and it was clear that there was something going on between the two. Li's smile soon came to his face.
"Welcome to Toy Palace, is there something specific you're looking for?" He asked, placing another grey wolf toy on the shelf.
"I was looking for you."
"Can I help you, Ryuzaki?"
"Yes, I'm placing you under temporarily arrest," Ryuzaki said in a serious tone, Li's eyes widened.
"You're accusing me of something?" Li asked and Ryuzaki nodded.
"You came to this city at the same time something else appeared in this city. It can't be just a coincidence that the two of you appearing at similar time. The only logical answer is that you and who I'm hunting are the same person. The same criminal I'm hunting down."
"Who are you hunting down?"
"A man who wears a white mask, he's been causing trouble in the city and I plan to stop him."
"Sounds like a familiar case."
"So this to you is a familiar case?"
"Yeah, I have a friend who's in Section 4 of the Police was also on a case."
"Hey Li," Misa sang as she came over to the three men.
"You're still under arrest Mr. Shengshun." Ryuzaki wasn't going to back down from this and he believed in near enough everything that Li and the masked man were connected to each other. Light had that feeling too but he didn't want Misa to worry over something like her friend being a criminal. It was bad enough that her boyfriend was stuck with the insomniac, sweet loving person who believes him to be Kira.
"Ryuzaki, we have to be reasonable!" Light exclaimed.
"What's going on over here?" Yoshiaki walked over to the three men and the young female.
"I'm just taking Li into custody until my mind is clear," Ryuzaki spoke in a monotone voice, something Li was used to hearing.
"What? What are you accusing him of?" Yoshiaki questioned Ryuzaki.
"I'm not certain if he's the person I'm looking for, but there are some things I want to make clear to him."
"Sir, it's okay. I've got nothing to hide from the police," Li said happily. Light stole a glance from Ryuzaki, he didn't believe that Li was innocent and when Ryuzaki believed that, there was something that was going to be solved.
"Okay..." Yoshiaki sighed.
"Great, another person Ryuzaki's stealing from me," Misa sighed. It was something that was starting to get annoying.
The Death Spark – Chapter 7
Rem stood in the room in silence, the simple fact this new being was attracting the attention of the police aided Kira. What confused her was the simple fact that she couldn't see his name. It flicked between names which started to confuse her. From names, to titles, to his code-name to something she didn't understand. The Death Note waited patiently on the desk, asking for more names to be added onto the pages.
"Hey Rem," She turned to see Ryuk landing behind her.
"Ryuk, I'm sure you've seen the new face?" Rem asked.
"Heh, yeah, I've seen the new face in the city. He's quite an interesting human."
"He's not from this world."
"His origin is from earth, his power...that's a different and interesting story I want to know," Rem just shook her head, it wasn't something they were really allowed to look into.
"How did he get here?" Rem questioned Ryuk.
"I've already met the person who's interfering with the plan."
"A human is doing this?"
"No, she's not human. She's just got the human appearance."
"Do you think she'll destroy the plan?"
"Na, she's just making it a little more fun. With this new threat in the city, little sugar man is getting distracted. Kira can make more moves without too much hassle if Kira doesn't take a life. Don't jump too soon though, it could easily change back."
"I'll keep that in mind."
The Death Spark - Chapter 7
Hei was sitting across the table from Ryuzaki and Light, to his right was a one-way mirror. Something Hei had seen many times before at the company he worked for, he knew that there were other members of the police force standing behind, watching for any signs that Hei was telling a lie while answering Ryuzaki's questions. Hei wasn't stupid; he knew how the police worked. After meeting Misaki, he would need to know as much about how the police functioned in order to find holes in how they functioned which contractors (like him) could use and get out free. Ryuzaki watched him like a hawk, any sign of a lie and he'll be able to detect it. Hei couldn't make a move if he wanted to get out of the police's hands, alive.
Light set down a voice recorder and inserted a new tape into the device and pressed record, signalling to Ryuzaki and the other members of the police watching the interview. "Interviewee is Mr. Shengshun, accused of murdering the members of the public police. Interview taking place at 10:27am by Ryuzaki and Light Yagami," Ryuzaki spoke clearly so that it was recorded. "Are you comfortable?" He directed the question to Hei.
"Yes sir," Hei replied, still keeping up with his 'Li' voice. He needed to keep, speak the truth (or just stretching it a little) and keep up his act. If anything slipped, then he'll be in trouble for sure. He was pretty sure that Ryuzaki wouldn't hesitate to sentence him to death if he found out that he did kill the police. They threatened him first...and if a contractor gets threatened they'll always lash out. It was part of their nature.
"Good, we can get straight into this," he shuffled on his seat slightly. "The reason I'm accusing you is due to the coincidence that you and the arrival of the masked man happened within a 12 hour time slot. This means that you and the masked man might be connected in some way. The simple fact that when Miss Amane 'found' you, you were currently looking for a home, you just moved to the city at the same time the masked man was picked up on cameras the previous night." Hei had to admit, Ryuzaki did get straight onto the topic, no hesitation.
"So just by this coincidence, you think I'm the masked man?" Hei asked.
"Yes, in simple terms anyway."
"The members of the public police were killed by the masked man. He discharged a strong pulse of electricity through their bodies by touching them. Through the electricity, their nervous systems were overcharged and fried. Killing the body on the inside," Light informed Hei. Hei couldn't help but pull off a slightly confused face.
"I thought that people couldn't discharge electricity from their body?" Hei asked.
"Under normal circumstances, it is impossible," Ryuzaki said.
"Both me and Ryuzaki have the possible idea that the masked man himself if an experiment escaped from a lab," Light pointed out. Hei nodded.
"It sounds like something from a horror film."
"But very much true," Ryuzaki's voice was heard. "So, where were you two nights ago?"
"Two nights ago I was returning back to my apartment in Tokyo, I already had everything packed up and ready to move out the following morning," Hei spoke, giving away no signals through body language that he was lying or being deceptive (although he was) while answering.
"Why did you move out from Tokyo?"
"Didn't quite want to move to the country side but wanted to escape from the big city. Thought I'd come and check out the town."
"You work in a toy shop?"
"I got accepted by Toy Palace and started working there. I met my boss, Yoshiaki and I was going to meet the manager of the shop the week after."
"What do you know of the masked man?"
"I can't help you there. I only know what you've just told me," Hei told both Light and Ryuzaki.
The Death Spark – Chapter 7
"Two nights ago, BK-201's star vanished from the sky, Astronomic say that the star was healthy one moment and then it just suddenly vanished from sight. Without any warning and no other stars seem to be acting the same as BK-201's star. The cause of the start disappearing is still being investigated," Misaki read off her piece of paper.
"Is it our new job to try and track down Mr. BK-201 so that we know where he is? I don't think it's fair on us that we still have to track him and capture him if he's out of our hair. I do want to live," November 11 said.
"It's more so that we can transfer what we know about BK-201 to other people where BK-201 is located so that they can catch him with as little casualties as possible."
"You'll also have to share the existence of contractors. Something society has been keeping hidden in the dark, the public don't know about them and so won't panic."
"It'll be safer if they have some knowledge about contractors, they have to know it in order to capture BK-201."
"Not even we know everything about BK-201. Who he works for? Why he's different than other contractors? What is his purpose?" November 11 smiled.
"Who knows? Maybe the person who's got him now can find out more about him than we could. I'm only going to ask that they could at least explain BK-201's motives and anything else that we need to know," Misaki said as she placed the paper gently down onto the desk. She looked at her team. Now she just needed to track down where BK-201 went to now.
FireCacodemon: Review time. *Smiles.*
Hei: Darker Than Black was well written...although many fans didn't like the second season. FireCacodemon's one of them but FireCacodemon doesn't hate the second season. But looks like I stand some chance against the Death Note...until caught in a accident.
FireCacodemon: I was going to keep it to Hei...but in total there will be 3 DtB characters in the DN realm. That'll probably quickly go down to 2. Things shouldn't get too complicated. Sorry you have to wait to find out more.
Light: I think that's everything all wrapped up.
L: It appears so...
Hei: Well, if you like this? Hate this? Want more? Let us know. Until then, take care.
