…
December 12th
Early this morning I woke up with a sore back. At first I didn't know why I was on a bus, but then I remembered that I'd run away. Right after I woke up the bus stopped and Doidle and I got off.
I'd always heard that Brightsburg was the most wonderful city in the world (except for that time year before last when they had all that crazy weather), but until I saw I didn't believe it. The buildings were bright, the snow radiated a blue glow and everything looked like it was straight out of a futuristic utopian society. I thought it was great, but then I met the people.
As soon as the other passengers and I stepped off the bus we were greeted by a man in a white suit.
"Hello guests, and welcome to Brightsburg, the greatest city in the world! Before you go wandering off, let me give you a free tour!" he greeted.
Out of nowhere music started playing and he approached a lady carrying a heavy bag. Several other men sporting white suits joined up with him as he started to sing.
"Hello ma'am, how are you, and can we take your purse? That's how we greet all our guests, in the city of Brightsburg!"
"Oh, thank you!" she said, handing one of the guys her bag.
The politeness made my eye twitch. I don't mind politeness too much, as long as it's in small amounts, but the people in Brightsburg were taking it way too far and it made me lose my appetite. I can't help but wonder if this is where Sammy's from. Anyway, even though it was annoying I'd used up my fare, so I knew I'd have to deal with it until I could get some cash for another ticket. So, I followed the tour group, hoping they'd lead me some place that met my standards. We walked around for a little bit and stopped at a park.
"Lookie here, lookie there, now there's a good place to surf; or you could just swim all day, in the big lake of Brightsburg!"
"But it's winter," I pointed out.
They ignored me and continued with their stupid song.
"Ha - ha - ha, Ho - ho - ho - and a couple of hurr – hurr – hurrs; that's how we laugh the day away in the city of Brightsburg! Ha - ha - ha, Ho - ho - ho – and a couple of hurr – hurr – hurrs; that's how we laugh the day away in the city of Brightsburg!"
I ended leaving after that chorus and dragged me and Doidle out to the woods. I didn't care how much I'd have to walk; I just wanted to get out of that goody-goody two shoe town before I had an aneurism!
"This sucks," I said to myself and Doidle. "I don't belong in Dimmsdale and I don't belong in Brightsburg! I'm starting to think that there's no place around here for a girl like me."
Doidle barked and I stopped dead in my tracks.
"Jail? Whose side are you on?" I demanded.
Doidle cocked his head at me. I let out a sigh.
"I know you really didn't say that. I'm just trying to make conversation and keep my sanity."
Behind me I heard some twigs snap. Doidle tensed up and started growling. I knew that he'd protect me, but I still couldn't help but wish that I'd brought some of my weapons along.
"Who's there!?" I yelled.
There was no response, so Doidle and I kept on walking until we came across a small pond. Doidle barked happily and ran over, but stopped and started whining when we realized it was frozen.
"Dumb dog," I muttered, catching up to him.
I jumped onto the center of the pond and stomped down on the ice to try and break it so that we could get some drinks. I succeeded, but it didn't exactly go as planned. The ice completely shattered beneath my feet and I was pulled into the ice cold water. Normally I'm a decent swimmer, but the weight of my jacket and the freezing cold water made it hard to move. I cried for help, although I wasn't sure if anyone would be able to hear me. The next thing I knew everything was going to black and a figure was approaching the pond.
I'm not sure how long I was out, but when I came to I found myself completely dry and in a cave. I was wearing the same clothes that I'd been wearing since I left Dimmsdale, so how they got dry I didn't know. Doidle was lying next to me, sound asleep.
"Good, you're awake."
A gasp escaped me. I recognized that voice. Gathering my strength I looked up and saw, to no surprise, Jorgen.
"A-Am I dreaming?" I asked.
"No, not this time," he answered, his booming voice made even louder by the echoes. "I was the one that pulled you and your dog out of the pond."
Up until then I thought that he was just a figment of my imagination, but there was no other explanation as to how I could've gotten out of the water. I still have a hard time believing he's actually real.
"Wow, thanks."
"I thought I told you to take care of the B.R.A.T.S," he said with a small snarl. "Why did you leave Dimmsdale?"
"It was becoming too much! Nobody was joining my group and nobody appreciated me! I'm better off this way!"
"Could've fooled me," he remarked.
I let out a huff and crossed my arms. He continued to talk.
"You need to return to Dimmsdale before it's too late. The people there need you. If you don't go back everything will become chaos!"
I didn't understand why the people needed me so badly, but I didn't really care.
"Well good! Those jerks deserve to suffer; especially my parents!"
Jorgen sighed and shook his head.
"You might think that now, but I guarantee that in the next few days you'll change your mind!"
"Oh yeah?" I challenged.
"Yeah!"
"Well we'll just see about that!"
He stomped his giant wand onto the ground and in a flash he was gone. I don't know what kind of technology he's got, but I need to get my hands on it! Anyway, not long after that a snow storm started up outside, leaving me and Doidle stranded in the cave. It kind of reminded me of that time I was trapped with the twerp, except that I wasn't emotionally shattered. Boy I really lost it that time; I'm surprised the twerp didn't use my little break-down as blackmail. The only upside to that situation was that he helped me get out, but it doesn't look like anyone's going to help me this time.
I guess I'll just rest for a little bit until the storm dies down. Later!
A/N: This is the point where the plot really starts to get rolling. Let me know what you all think about the chapter and story so far.
