Since everyone found out, things seemed to get better from there. I went out on a date with Edward, we went to a movie then had dinner, something that couldn't have happened unless we had put the captions on and had a movie date in the living room.
People might think our family was unconventional, being that we were all together as couples, but that really didn't matter to me. Lauren the Tramp finally realized that she wasn't going to get anywhere with Edward with me around, and despite Jessica's attempts, Edward never left my side, one arm around me at all times.
My school was notified that I had had surgery to correct an inner ear problem and could now hear, so having an interpreter was no longer needed. It felt normal to sit around the lunch table talking to my family, despite me still having no idea why they never ate. They seemed to have given up all pretenses of eating at home as well. I never asked though. From listening to them over the last several months, I have found that something was quite different with them than normal people.
I was still waiting for the shoe to drop, for something to happen that would take them all away. Jasper, ever the empath, would come over in my times of need and hold my hand. Just that small gesture seemed to suck the worry and sadness from my body. I was very grateful for him in those moments.
The little Robin Stacy that we helped got better and I was soon able to let her fly free once her wing was healed. Later that day, I had gone back to the meadow I had visited the day I found her, and Stacy was flying around with all her other friends.
Edward had followed me to the meadow and we both sat with our feet in the river. He laid back, staring at the sky, watching the clouds form shapes. I joined him, linking our hands together. "I'm so glad my family decided to bring you into our lives," Edward said, turning his head to mine. "I never would have met someone as gentle, nice, and beautiful as you," he kissed my forehead and I leaned my head on his shoulder.
Awhile later, I heard two Cardinals singing and chirping. I glanced over to see Danny and Angel hopping around with a little baby bird half their size with all of his feathers grown in. I leaned up on my elbows as I said, "Danny? Angel? Is that you?" They chirped and hopped around, nudging their little one towards me. Edward had sat up and was watching our exchange.
The little bird hopped onto my stomach and started dancing and chirping while flapping his wings. He hopped onto my chest and snuggled in, like that was where he was meant to be. I laughed as I remembered that was where I had him when I climbed the tree.
Shortly after, he flew back over to his parents and they took off to the trees after coming over to peck me on my cheek. I ended up telling Edward what had happened that day we took home Stacy and he laughed remembering when he fell into the water because of my scheming.
He abruptly stood up and dusted off his clothes. "Here, follow me, I have something to show you," he said, holding out his hand for me. I grabbed it and he helped pull me up before beginning to leading me off to the other side of the meadow. Our side was shaded by trees, but the other side was gleaming in the sun light, the water reflecting rays of light.
"Okay, so this is something to do with me, I know you'll probably get scared, and it's only natural, but I have to show you something, and I don't know how you'll take it. I'll have to tell you something too, which is why my family is waiting and will intervene if there are questions you may have that I can't answer," Edward said, holding my hand.
I looked up to him in confusion and nodded as he let go of my hand. He started to walk into the sunlight and what I saw next took my breath away. It was amazing, he was beautiful. His skin looked like the water, reflecting rays of sun in a million different directions. I gasped and stepped closer, I reached out and touched his skin, feeling it warmer than usual, due to the sun I'm sure.
"You're beautiful," I stated, turning his worried face towards my own. I looked into his eyes, smoothing away his worry lines with my fingers as I leaned up to kiss him.
"As you can see, I'm not human, Bella, none of us are," he said, taking a step back.
"I know," I said calmly. At this point, he looked taken aback, and his family had emerged from the forest to watch.
"You know?" he asked.
"I don't know what you are, but I do know none of you are human. Humans eat food at lunch like everyone else. And we're also warm, and sleep constantly; we can't sneak up on people and can't just say someone's name at a regular volume and have someone appear from the next floor. I've known for quite some time that you guys weren't human."
"Would you like to know what we are?" he asked.
"I'm surprised you haven't told me already, what with my sharing of my secret. But yes, I would like to know, and I promise I won't freak out," I said, glancing at the others.
Edward pulled me down into a seated position and we held hands. "I know you said you wouldn't freak out, but it would be totally normal if you did, just so you know. My family and I are vampires. We were all turned decades ago. We call ourselves vegetarian because we eat animals, and not people. There aren't many vampires that do the same, and when it comes to them, their eyes are red, not gold like ours. I've been a vampire for over a hundred years, Carlisle, four times that, he is the one who turned me, and I was the only one he turned for a decade or so. The only ones not turned by him were Alice and Jasper; they joined us after Esme was turned. We're all a family, and despite us all being about the same age, Carlisle and Esme are our parental figures. We don't sleep at all; we aren't grossed out by garlic or crucifixes. And we don't go out in the sun because we glow, and that would cause uproar if we did. Other than that, we are completely normal, well, minus our super strength and healing, and the fact that some of us have other powers. Jasper is able to feel and manipulate emotions, Alice, can see the future, and until I met you, I could read everyone's thoughts, yours seem to be closed off to mine though," he finally finished and I sat there for a few moments, taking everything in.
"Okay," I said.
"Okay?" he asked, looking surprised. "Yes, okay. I don't care what you guys are, I know you won't hurt me and the fact that you can't easily die on me is the best news in the world, because that's what started the whole secret thing in the first place. I love you, Edward, and I love all of you, and nothing is going to change that. I'm happy to have found a family so willing to take me into your arms and if you guys are vampires, then I'm okay with that," I explained.
I heard a collective sigh of relief and Edward stood up holding his hand out to me. I took it and in one swift move, I was on his back and he was speeding home with my body firmly locked around him as I laughed and screamed all the way home.
End.
Wow, so this is finally done. I edited the last five chapters and made this final one all in one day. I apologize for taking so damn long! And on my senior year of College, I'm finally able to write the ending to this! Damn! If anyone else is reading any of my other stories, I apologize for those as well and will be working towards finishing those too.
