Chapter15

Marie woke gradually to the sound of shouting in the hall. The raised voices sounded borderline violent. Her body throbbed to the point that her hair even ached. The last thing that she remembered was arriving at Dorcha Gaol. She recognized the infirmary within the dark stone walls and the healers that were now bustling to her side.

After a series of diagnostic scans were run they answered her questions. No she was not cleared to leave. No there were not any fatalities. Yes everyone made it back safely. Yes more people were fleeing to the designated points with the aid of Gringott's and the Department of Mysteries. No there had not been an attack since.

Marie huffed and crossed her arms over her chest. She really hated being relegated to bed rest. She felt useless being stuck in one place for too long. Even now her mind was racing a mile a minute. With sluggish movements she moved her arms out in front of her and closed her eyes and conjured a pad of paper and a pencil.

The effort and strain on her magic had beads of sweat forming on her brow and left her out of breath. The nearest healer tutted and scolded her. The mediwizard told her that if she didn't allow her body to heal and her magic to recharge she would eventually cause permanent damage to her core.

Marie nodded in understanding. When it was explained to her like that, she knew that she would be resting for as long as they deemed necessary. With trembling limbs she carefully began writing a list of things that they had left to do. She would need to sit and talk with Regulus to find out just what he knew about the Horcruxes. They would need to start sending teams to pick up the Muggleborns that weren't yet school aged and have them and their families relocated, preferably here on the island. They'd have to check in with Dan Granger and find out how many people capable of shooting there were.

On and on her list went. Her hand was beginning to cramp after a short while. She was so engrossed in her thoughts that she never noticed Lucius, Antonio, Severus, Regulus, and Rabastan enter the infirmary. One of them cleared their throats and startled her from her thoughts.

Glancing up she gave them all tired smiles. "Good evening gentlemen," she said. "What can I do for you?"

"Piccola," Antonio said hoarsely, "you've got to be more careful. I know that you want and need to fight, but you're going to do more damage than even magic can fix if you're not more careful."

Sighing and nodded she replied, "I know. The Healers explained it to me and believe me, I'll be much more cautious. I've got a week left recovering suck in this bed. There's so much left to do. I still have so much that I don't fully understand."

"Marie," Severus said in a silky voice. "We're all here to help you."

"You've all done more than I should have ever asked of you," Marie said with tears thick in her voice. "I will never forgive myself for what you've been through."

Antonio sat on her bed and gently gathered her in his arms. This was his little sister-friend. She was theirs, his to protect and she was worried about them. Even now as she was recovering from facing Bellatrix and the Dark Lord she was worried about others. Yes, many of them had seen and done things that no one should ever have to do, but she had given them something to fight for and the hold onto.

While the Zabinis had been able to stay out of it for a long time, they had still fallen under scrutiny from both sides. They had allied themselves with Marie back in the seventies, despite their neutrality. When she left they quietly went back to their stance of neutrality while meeting up with the rest of her Guardians in secret.

"Marie," Lucius spoke softly, "you don't need to apologize or feel guilt. We would have had to join regardless of your cause. By joining and working for you, it enabled us to hold onto our honor while fulfilling our duty to our families."

Marie cried silently into Antonio's chest. She finally let go and allowed herself to cry it all out. The men closed in and murmured to her that it would be alright. Though many of them were uncomfortable and not sure what to do, their young friend was obviously hurting and not just physically.

Her tears dried and sobs quieted letting them know that she had cried herself to sleep. Antonio gently eased her back against her pillow and tucked her in. He tore the sheet off of her notepad and nodded to the others. They made their way out of the infirmary to the briefing room.

As they entered the room they found that Brett and Miles were inside talking and planning. Caius entered with his son in tow. Miles sent Patronus messages to call in the team leaders and elder members of Marie's groups. Her Slytherin friends and those on the inside also came in droves.

The room magically expanded twice to allow everyone to assemble. Chairs appeared in an auditorium like setting and white boards appeared. Antonio handed them the list off of Marie's notepad. Miles and Brett nodded and had the lists transferred to the boards for everyone to see.

Micah entered the room with the elite members of the packs and sat off to the side. They observed the boards and then the others in the room and nodded. It was good to have a clear direction again. While they had done everything that they could to make a difference over the years, Marie was the one running things. With her gone it was difficult at times to come to an agreement as to what was next.

Teddy Knott, as Marie called him and his son Theo led Dan and Emma Granger into Dorcha Gaol with a number of the other Muggle parents. The group quickly made their way towards the briefing room which was expanding for a third time as the Gray Coven had come to sit in on the meeting as well.

Dan looked around and his mind was racing. This whole scenario was beyond James Bond and moving into territory that he wasn't quite sure he was ready to think about. Having been a member of the Special Forces, he knew that evil was very real and the price that was paid to keep the masses safe. He nodded grimly to Brett and Miles and took a seat near where his daughter and her group sat.

As everyone settled the doors sealed with a flash. The room went quiet as Brett and Miles began discussing what was on the immediate agenda. Packets of information were handed out to everyone. They then pointed to the white boards and indicated that Marie had come up with a list of things that needed to be addressed and actions taken as soon as possible. Teams were set up and timetables were established for each of the items on the packet and Marie's list.

"I know that many of you are still wary about others in this room," Miles' voice thundered. "In the words of Marie, you can check those prejudices and differences at the door. We're all on the same side and need to work together. There will be no time to hesitate, no time to question anyone else in this room when you're out in the field."

"Marie trusts her Snaky friends," Brett said gruffly. "If you trust in her then you need to trust them. They've been on the front lines of this longer than many of you have been born. By distrusting them, you're distrusting her. That girl has done more for the cause than any can even begin to understand. She opened her homes, her Vaults, her businesses, and her life to all those that would simply stand up for what was right."

There were shouts and cheers from around the room. Hermione watched in fascination as she saw men and women from all walks of life rallying together under a unified banner. Marie Stone had brought in Squibs, Muggleborns, Muggles, Purebloods, Half-bloods, Werewolves and so many others. She gave them all equal chance to live and fight, regardless of race, gender, or blood. It was uplifting and inspiring to be a part of.

Hermione looked to where he father was sitting a few seats down. Dumbledore hadn't thought to include or protect the families of the Muggleborns, but Marie had. He hadn't thought to use what they knew to fight, but Marie had. Hermione had been disillusioned from the Headmaster since he had forced Harry to compete in that Godforsaken Tournament. It had gotten worse over the years since then. By the end she distrusted the man. When she found out that Harry had a Horcrux in his scar and what the Headmaster had planned for him, any admiration she had for the departed man vanished.

Viktor took her hand in his own and looked at her in concern. His actions startled her from her thoughts and she looked over at him in surprise. She felt his magic settle around hers and cocoon her in warmth and calm. Her breath caught in her throat and she felt her magic respond in kind. To feel the big Quidditch player beside her shudder and the give her a heated look that had her pulse racing.

A subtle cough from Harry caused them to break eye contact. The members of the Gray Coven laugh quietly at the pair, but knew what they were feeling. Their own magic was calling to that of their mate and bonded constantly. It would be interesting to see what would happen in the coming months and years.

Lucius stood and made his way to the front of the room. A hush fell over the auditorium and they waited to hear what he would have to say. To know that he had been on the inside for nearly two decades was sobering for many of them and made them reevaluate what they thought about many of the supposed Pureblood snobs that were currently sitting in the room.

"Lady Stone has been my friend and ally since she magically and mysteriously appeared in the Great hall back in seventy-four," he began in a clear voice. "I swore shortly after her appearance to protect her and do whatever I could to aid her. She gave those of us who didn't really have a choice, but to join the Dark Lord something to hope for and cling to. She gave us a chance to do our duty to our family, but hold onto our honor."

There were murmurs of agreement from around the room and cheers in response. It was clear that she had networked a great deal in her short time in the past. In the brief time that she had spent back then she had touched many lives.

"Marie should be in here with us right now, but she's in the infirmary recovering and will be there for at least another week," he told them soberly. "Though she cannot fight with us at this time we can do our part until she's well enough. She often told us 'come what may, to the bitter end.' Never was there a more true statement that any had spoken. We pledged to her all those years ago the same. That we would fight for what was right come what may."

The atmosphere in the room was charging with anticipation and adrenaline. Aye, they could pledge that. Come what may, to the bitter end indeed.

"Our way of life is on the brink of complete and utter destruction," Lucius called out. "The self-styled Dark Lord made a mistake in underestimating what we could do if we all stood together. We have our differences and may not believe in the same things, but that doesn't mean we cannot live side by side. I'm proud to call Marie Stone, daughter of squibs, Head of Mac an t-Sealgair family and Head of Artan family, my friend. She is an Elemental, and the Healers informed us that her powers are stabilizing and she's currently the most powerful being to walk the Earth. She's surpassed Sorceress and is now classed as a Grand Sorceress. "

The room sat in stunned silence at that revelation. There hadn't been a Grand or High Sorceress since Morgana La Fay! Should she want to, she could easily rule over all of them. However those that knew her knew that greatest ambition was someday settle down have a family and live a quiet life. She had a list of things that she wanted to do before she passed away that she referred to as her "bucket list." Not that the Purebloods knew what that meant, but some of the things on the list intrigued them. Skydiving, bungee jumping, and sailing around the world all sounded like interesting things.

"With that said," Lucius continued. "Marie has only ever wanted peace. She intends to see those responsible for the deaths of her family face justice for their crimes. I too would like to see those responsible for tearing this world asunder to face justice. If we can stand together and stand firm in our cause we can and will win this."

The applause was thunderous. Ever the politician, Lucius bowed to the crowd and made his way back to his seat. His friend smirked and clapped him on the back as he passed. Yes, though Lucius fought for what was right, he had certainly cultivated a politician's rhetoric over the years. That's not to say that he wasn't genuine. He was just able to deliver a message in such a way that made people feel like they could do anything. It was he who had been able to approach and persuade a number of people to listen to Marie all those years ago, and for that they would be forever grateful.

Dan Granger listened to the closing remarks from Brett and Miles and nodded. Flipping through the packet he agreed with what had been laid out. Glancing at the whiteboard he could see the logic behind those goals as well. It was like watching a well -oiled machine in motion. This was a similar protocol that they had followed in the service of Her Majesty. Clear cut and well thought out plans and near perfect execution.

He stood as the members of the auditorium began filtering out. The Gray Coven that he knew his daughter was now a part of stayed. Lady Stone's other close friends and pseudo family also remained. Dan made his way towards Brett and Miles.

"Well," he said matter of factly, "it's a bit of déjà vu sitting there watching. What do you need from me?"

Miles chuckled, "Mate if you can get teams of people that can hit a target from fifty yards out by the year's end, we'll be in good shape."

Dan nodded, "I need to have a range set up at the castle and extra rounds of ammo stocked up," he told them. "You'll want a team here doing the same."

"Already a head of you there boyo," Brett laughed. "Nearly every person residing on this island can shoot and well."

"Perhaps you could lend a few to help me get the people at the castle squared away," Dan suggested.

Hermione went to father's side. "You're not planning on running a military base from the school are you dad?"

"It would take a miracle to get them anywhere near ready for that love," Dan said snottily. "Most of them aren't in any form of shape to be able to keep up with the basics, never mind having them ready for a fight."

"So missy," Brett said with a grin, "Have you kept up on your training?"

Hermione smirked, "What do you think?"

Dan chuckled and winked to his former comrades. He had made sure that his daughter knew how to handle and protect herself to the best of his abilities. It had pained him to send her away to school on her own, but he made sure that he taught her everything that he knew. Hence she broke the pointy nosed blonde's nose at thirteen.

"Shall we see what you've got in the training room?" Miles suggested.

Hermione grinned, "Sure why not."

The groups disbursed and the Gray Coven followed to the training room to see Hermione spar with the instructors. What they saw shocked them. Gone was the shy, quiet girl and in her place was a coordinated fighter. She gave as good as she got and it was only because of the sheer size of the men she was fighting against that they had an advantage over her. In the end she was disarmed and pinned, but her performance left the others watching stunned.

Harry laughed long and hard drawing curious glances. "She could have wiped the floor with the poncy git back in third year!" he gasped out.

The other chuckled and she blushed. Viktor was at her side almost instantly checking her over and healing what he could of the bumps and bruises that she had sustained in the training. His little English Rose was certainly full of surprises. Their Elemental training growing up didn't involve significant physical activity, but they had been warned and instructed that their magic was like a muscle. Exercise would help to stabilize and sustain them.

Meanwhile Marie's 'Snaky' friends were gathered back in the briefing room. They were discussing what they had been up to recently and their families. It had been a number of years since they could all meet freely. Many of them had seen each other in passing but they could never let their guard down. They had come to the Gaol from time to time to touch base when they could but they were constantly under scrutiny.

"Is she really alright?" Teddy Knott asked in concern.

"She's resting, but will be fine," Antonio assured the big Slytherin.

"I feel somewhat responsible," Knott admitted. "I asked her to get Ida and the girls out."

"She'd have your hide if she heard you saying that," Regulus said from the chair he lounged in. "Marie and her teams gathered enough people to have multiple teams simultaneously going to extract the family members of our allies. She kept her promise to you and the others to do what she could to protect you and yours. Don't insult her sacrifice by turning it into a matter of responsibility and blame."

Teddy grunted in acknowledgement. The others talked among themselves and breathed more easily than they had in years. Since Marie had disappeared twenty years ago, life for them had been difficult. They kept their aloof Pureblood masks up in order to protect themselves and their families. Most of them had been able to keep themselves out of prison. With their families safe behind the wards of Hogwarts, the Gaol and a number of safe houses let them all focus on the tasks ahead of them.

Regulus was looking at the white board and his suddenly sat up. His eyes went wide and the others looked at him in concern. He flipped open his packet and glanced back at the board.

"Kreacher!" he shouted.

A loud crack sounded and a haggard looking House Elf appeared. "Master Regulus!"

"Kreacher, where is the locket?" Regulus asked sharply.

"Kreacher is sorry Master," the elf croaked. "Kreacher could not destroy it Master. Kreacher tried!" he wailed. "The locket was theifed. Kreacher tried, but Dung-man takes it."

"Who?" Regulus asked in a panic. "Who took the locket?"

"Was it Mundungus Fletcher, Kreacher?" Lucius hissed in a dangerous tone.

"Yes!" the elf wailed and banged his head on the table. "Kreacher is a bad elf. He failed the Master!"

"Kreacher!" Regulus said sharply. "That's enough. I order you to stop it. Now listen, go get the locket and bring it to me. You must bring it back, now go!"

Kreacher croaked and bowed before disappearing with a crack. The group watched as Regulus seemed to working himself into a frenzy. Something was off.

"A locket, Regulus?" Rabastan asked in amusement. "What's so important about the trinket?"

"It's one of them!" Regulus shouted. "It's a Horcrux and we must get it back before it gets back to him."

"Bloody Hell," Rabastan whispered hoarsely. "What do we do now?"

"We need to have word sent and people on the look-out for it," Antonio said. "I'll go get Brett and Miles. They'll know who needs to be contacted."

Meanwhile back in Hogwarts refugees were arriving in droves. Professor and acting Headmistress McGonagall was becoming overwhelmed. The other professors were doing their best to assist her and the people coming in, but it was becoming abundantly clear that they would need help. She called over one of the lieutenants that she knew had contact with Marie's group and asked for assistance in organizing. While some of the people arriving were willing to help, many of them grumbled about being put to work.

Jonathan nodded to his former professor and made his way to the nearest floo. He went through and then portkeyed to Dorcha Gaol. He walked through the halls in search of Brett, Miles, or Micah. Those three men had run things in Marie's absence to the best of their abilities and had continued what she had set out to do. They had continued recruiting Werewolves, Muggleborns, Squibs and even Muggles for twenty year and now they fully staffed an army of them.

He found everyone in the dining hall taking a late lunch. He noticed the packets and knew that he would have one in his room waiting for him to pick up. Walking forward he reached their side and greeted them.

"McGonagall needs help," he told them bluntly. "They're coming by the dozens but most of them don't want to lift a finger to help."

Jonathan sat on one of the benches and explained what had been happening in their brief absence. It was clear to them that a group of Marie's people needed to be stationed at the castle in rotation to instill some sort of order to the chaos that was sure to ensue. The castle would soon be overrun and its provisions depleted if they didn't put a stop to it and follow some sort of plan.

After lunch, the group broke off to complete their various tasks they were assigned. Miles called a group of fifteen people to the briefing room and asked them to accompany Jonathan back to Hogwarts to help the transition period and to get the castle and its inhabitants ready for war. The Grangers and the Muggle relatives volunteered to accompany them back and help get things going. In the evenings however, Dan and Emma would return to the Gaol to be with their daughter. The Gray Coven would be moving into the Gaol for the duration of the war.

The Malfoys retired back to their suite of room in the Gaol. Lucius beckoned his wife and son to sit on the sofas near the fireplace. It was clear by his body language that this would not be a pleasant discussion.

"I had hoped to spare you from all of this as best as I could," he said softly. "My father didn't give me much of a choice when I was younger. Marie knew this and offered many of us an alternative. When all is said and done we will be able to walk away from all of this free, with our heads held high."

Narcissa nodded with tears in her eyes knowing how difficult this was for her husband. Though they had an arranged marriage, they loved each other and their son deeply. In public they portrayed a certain image that sometimes carried over to their personal lives. Most of the time however, they were free with their emotions in private.

"That being said," He paused, "I had also hoped that you would have conducted yourself better Draco. I know that you too had a role to play, but I feel as though there may have been times where you behaved yourself in a deplorable manner. I will give you the chance to tell us what has been said and done over the years. Hopefully you will have a good enough explanation for your behavior."

Draco swallowed thickly. He knew that he was often cruel to his peers. Not only was it part of the role he had been groomed to portray, but it was a defense mechanism. No one could really know how he felt about things. With people like Pansy, Crabbe, and Goyle hanging around, he had to be very careful. They often reported back to their parents.

"I know that I have behaved poorly," Draco said carefully. "I know that you're disappointed in me. I hope that you understand that I'm truly sorry, but I was being watched perhaps more closely than yourself. It's not an excuse it's the truth. I'll do whatever I need to in order to fix any problems that my actions may have caused."

His parents nodded and they sat as a family talking quietly in the privacy of their rooms. Most of their belongings were stored in their Vaults at Gringott's but there were a number of possessions present in these rooms. Dorcha Gaol would now be their home until the end of the war. If it meant their survival, it was a sacrifice they were willing to make.

Time passed quickly over the next week for everyone. Marie was often sleeping or making lists which her friends would take and make sure got done. Between Hogwarts and Dorcha Gaol, everyone was kept extremely busy in their preparations.

The Gray Coven spent their time training and the elders and mentors that had trained them were now focusing on training Harry. They studied rituals and various spells that they would be able to use and harness when the time came. The rest of Marie's pseudo family and friends would sit in and train with them when they could. Sirius in particular work hard to get himself back into dueling shape.

It was almost a full week past the large meeting at Dorcha Gaol that Kreacher popped back into the briefing room looking ragged and exhausted. He had a manic look of triumph on his face as he bowed and presented the locket to Regulus. Regulus took the locket and thanked his friend, ordering him to go home and rest. Kreacher scraped a low bow and left with a crack.

After wrapping the Horcrux in a bag and making sure not to touch it with his bare hands, Regulus called in Marie's lieutenants and commanders. They spoke urgently over what would need to be done next and how to get it to Gringott's to have it taken care of. The group assembled spoke in hushed tones over what would need to be done. As far as they could tell they only had two more left if the Dark Lord had indeed gone with the magical number of seven.

Rabastan was sitting in his room reading and thinking of everything that had happened in a short span of two weeks. His whole world turned upside down the day that Marie had disappeared. His brother had come home looking ill and his sister-in-law was even more deranged, if possible. Then in the months following he was more at odd with her until their confrontation.

Luckily for him, Rodolphus had come home and began defending him. It was enough of a distraction that Marie's little elf whisked him away. He had been placed in stasis and a deep magical sleep.

Waking twenty years later was a bit odd if he was being honest. However, he could never thank Marie enough for what she had done for him. He grieved for the brother that had always looked out for him growing up. Though he was now apparently evil, Rodolphus had shielded him from the worst of their lessons and punishments.

The day before, he had received a missive from Gringott's stating that his brother had turned everything over to him. They had enclosed the Head of House ring which had been cleansed and checked for anything dangerous. Even now he held the ring in his hand in disbelief that Rodolphus had passed it to him. There was a letter enclosed explaining everything and asking for forgiveness. Apparently his brother did have remorse for the way things had turned out.

There was a knock on the door and Regulus entered his rooms. His friend looked at him in concern as he walked closer. The youngest Black sat on the sofa across from him and looked at him carefully, as if searching for the right words to say. He waited patiently for his friend to tell him what had happened. Slowly and painfully Rabastan told him of the letter and showed him the ring that he now had in his possession.

Rabastan's whole body trembled with grief and pain. His brother, as deranged as he was, even now was trying to protect him. Rabastan swallowed the lump in his throat and slowly slid the ring onto his right ring finger. He felt the Lestrange Family Magic flare and settle in him. The Family Magics thrummed through his body and he felt the knowledge of his ancestors pass to him.

Regulus clasped his friend on the shoulder and congratulated him. The two sat in companionable silence before the others joined them. Severus quirked an eyebrow at the Head of House ring that was now on Rabastan's finger. Lucius inclined his head to his friend and Antonio clapped his shoulder in congratulations. Teddy Knott greeted the new Head of House and took a seat in one of the chairs. Many other were streaming into the room. They were all talking among themselves and checking how the others were doing.

Meanwhile back at Hogwarts Professor McGonagall was overwhelmed with the numbers of people flocking to Hogwarts. Another message was sent to Dorcha Gaol to send more people to help organize and reign in the more obstinate people arriving. Micah and some of the others were even now assembling rotations of who would be going back and forth between the Gaol and Hogwarts. By sunset there would be an overhaul to the way things were run at Hogwarts.

Many people would try to protest the changes coming, but they would be given ultimatums. They could either contribute to the collective effort and comply with the rules laid out, or they were on their own. Marie had listened to the pleas from her former Head of House and felt disgusted at the actions of the people that were showing up and making demands. The latest letter from Minerva McGonagall had her pushing through her exhaustion and pain to move.

Marie hissed as she gingerly sat up in the bed that she had spent the better part of the last week and a half in. While she was conscious and well, her body was still recovering from the severe trauma that she had experienced. Her core had recovered and she was on her way to bouncing back completely. Her body had also been healed but her ribs and muscles were still very sore. Her healers had cautioned her to take another few days to allow her body to fully heal before any strenuous activity.

With a sigh, Marie slid to the edge of the bed. Gritting her teeth she stood shakily on her feet. Her healer came bustling to her side, tutting and fretting over her. Marie grinned at the Muggleborn woman and asked if she could get out of the infirmary and at least start staying in her rooms if she promised not to over-do it too much. The healer rolled her eyes and handed Marie two vials of potions and called for Tidbit, Marie's personal elf with instructions for the remaining potions in her regime.

The faithful House Elf fussed over his mistress and brought her fresh clothes to change into. Marie, with the help of her healer tugged on clean ender garments and pulled on the leggings the elf brought. She hisses in pain while pulling on the tank top and large slouchy t-shirt over it. She slid a pair of flats onto her feet and slowly made her way out of the infirmary heading towards her suite of rooms in the Gaol.

Marie walked slowly down the hallway, leaning on the wall to balance herself. A few times she had to rest along the way. She heard the murmur of voices passing the Great hall of the Gaol. She pushed the door open with trembling limbs and slowly made her way in the room where the members of the Gray Coven were lounging and talking.

Marcus had been talking to Adrian when he sensed Marie's magic nearby. He stood and turned towards the door as Marie pushed it open. He made it across the room in long strides, reaching her side quickly. He offered her his arm to escort her across the room. He helped her to sit on the sofa and sat next to her, watching her in concern as she leaned back and closed her eyes.

"Well that was more exhausting than I thought," Marie murmured tiredly.

"Are you alright?" Marcus asked.

Marie nodded to him as Hermione and the other female members of the Coven moved in to check on Marie. Marcus stayed seated next to her, letting the others check on her themselves. In the weeks since Marie had returned the bond between the group and respective couples were growing and flourishing. While the nature of the bonds they shared differed, they could still recognize and reach out to one another should the need arise.

Marie and Marcus felt their magic reaching out and meshing over the weeks since Marie had returned. Hermione and Viktor had started bonding and connecting years ago when Viktor had shown up for the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Harry and Daphne Greengrass had slowly begun to get to know each other. Susan, the bubbly Hufflepuff had tentatively begun to get to know Fabian, while Katie Bell had instantly hit it off with Gideon. Hannah Abbot was slowly being drawn out of her shy shell by Regulus. Luna Lovegood was showing Rabastan that there was more to life than meets the eye, much to the amusement of the rest of the Coven.

While the couples' bonds were flourishing, the bonds of the Coven as a whole were growing stronger by the day. They would often meet and exercise their powers together. Many hours a day were spent training and working with each other. They researched and studied rituals and spells. Their Elemental and Druid mentors spent time each day at the Gaol with them, preparing them for what was to come. Harry especially was receiving the training that he would need for the coming days. Their mentors were waning, and now it was only a matter of time before they all passed to the next great adventure.

Marie opened her eyes and smiled at her new friends, and nodded to the old ones that regarded her with concerned looks. She grinned at them and laughed softly seeing the scowls on the faces of the Prewetts and Regulus and Rabastan.

A knock on the door interrupted them. Lucius entered with Severus and Sirius trailed in behind them. The three men made their way to the group and headed towards where Marie was seated.

"How are you feeling Marie?" Sirius asked crouched down.

"Tired, but much better," she replied.

"Marie," Severus said in his deep silky voice, "you my dear need to be more careful in the future. I'm not sure that this old heart can handle another scare like that one."

"Wait, you've got a heart?" Sirius said sarcastically.

Hermione reached over and cuffed him on the back of the head. "Be nice Sirius!" she scolded.

The group sat conversing for a while before they were heading to Hogwarts to check in with the group on rotation there and to help with the training. Despite the protest of others, Marie insisted that she join the group at the ancient school. Marcus helped her stand and the large group made their way towards the portkey departure point. The all held a chord of rope and were whisked away.

Marcus cradled Marie against him to help her stand on the landing. The new school year should be starting in a matter of days, but with the way things were turning out politically and otherwise, Professor McGonagall had yet to announce the start of term plans. A missive from the Ministry, which had fallen to the Dark, was received stating that they would be appointing a new Headmaster. The castle groaned in protest and the wards shifted to the control of Professor McGonagall and Marie to an extent.

Hogwarts, being the sentient building that it was, recognized the threat of the Ministry and the Dark. Its creators and Founders had imbued each and every stone with their magic and life's blood. Every stone had runes carved into them and sealed with their blood and magic. It had been their labor of love and the end result was a castle that thrummed with life and magic.

Marie clung to Marcus as they landed on the Hogwarts grounds. His arm wrapped around her waist and pulled her towards his chest while holding her up. She buried her face in his broad chest and breathed in his scent, relaxing into his arms. She felt his magic react out and wrap her in a protective cocoon.

Marcus sighed as he felt his magic reach out to the petite witch in his arms. His arm flexed, as he held her gently to him. With little effort he scooped her up and carried her, cradling her body against his broad muscled chest. He followed after the others in long strides and made his way up the path towards the castle.

Marie snuggled into his chest and lulled to the steady sound of his heartbeat. Her magic and his seemed to meld as she drifted to a light sleep in his arms. All around her she heard the murmuring of voices and conversations. She felt the magic of individuals and the castle itself. All the while Marcus protectively held and guarded his little witch while she rested in his arms.

Marie stirred a short while later to the sound of raised voices. There were a number of people arguing and protesting over the rules that had been laid down for all. Those same people felt that they shouldn't have to work while staying at Hogwarts.

Marcus looked down at the now awake woman in his arms and reluctantly placed her feet down on the ground. He offered her a steadying hand and helped her to walk towards the growing crowd of people that were forming around Professor McGonagall and the lieutenants that Marie had sent to the castle to help restore order and make preparations.

The crowd parted for Marie and the Coven that were now descending on the group with grim expressions on their faces. Many tried to scurry away, but found their feet rooted on the ground. The castle had apparently decided to intervene and many people found their feet magically encased in the stone blocks of the floors.

Stepping up to Professor McGonagall's side, Marie turned to face the ring leaders of the group. "What seems to be the problem gentlemen?" she asked in a firm voice.

"We don't answer to the likes of you," one of them replied in a sneering voice.

Marie snorted and waved her hand, silencing the offender. "I'll give you all one last chance to answer the question in a mature and honest manner and if I or the others do not like your answer you and your families will find yourselves ejected from the wards and on your own," she said loudly, silencing all conversations in the Hall. "Have you not listened to the way things are going to be? Did you not hear the rules and expectations of those seeking sanctuary here?" she asked. "I have had about all I'm going to take of people showing up making demands of those behind the protective wards here. You will either contribute and work to earn your stay here, or you will find shelter elsewhere. Have I made myself quite clear?"

"Who are you to make such demands?" one of the men blustered.

"I am the one who is now declaring Martial Law and invoking my rights to do so per the vows and oaths made to me and mine twenty years ago," she called out. "I have every right to name your Ministry Oath Breakers and strip each and every one of them of everything they have and all of their powers. You will heed my warning, because this is the last you will be given! No more sitting on your asses expecting others to do for you. I'll not shed another drop of blood for the likes of you! I've held up my end of the bargain, as have my allies and friends. It's now time for the rest of Britain's Wizarding population to step up and fight for themselves! We outnumber them ten to one easily, and yet you cowards hide behind others and expect others to make sacrifices for you. No more!"

Marie's breath was heaving. "I hope I can someday repay my allies and friends who spent the better part of the last two decades trying to help and pass along information that would have stopped the psychotic tosspot from returning. I owe them and so do the rest of you!"

Her body was trembling as the wards around the castle groaned and answered her anger. "Does that answer any of the questions that any of you mindless sheep have?" she demanded coldly. "Any more protests for you entitled little snots that sat here and did nothing to help those in need two weeks ago? We will know nothing more for you and those like you. You can either start helping around here or you can get the Hell out. The school term starts in a matter of days. I'll be damned if I let maggots and leeches like you stop that from happening."

Professor McGonagall stood a little taller and looked on with pride as her young cub gave the rabble a tongue lashing. Aye, the term would start and school would take place. She had a duty to the children and the castle. The castle and wards thrummed in response.

Marie looked at those present, with her magic clearly visible sparking along her skin and hair. It zipped around her like little lightning bolts and jolts of electricity. Her hands glowed an eerie and terrifying blue. Many people were for the first time seeing a glimpse of her power.

"You have heard what I have said and what we have all agreed needs to take place to survive the coming war," she called out. "You can either take back your lives and your freedom and join us in this fight or remain the mindless cowards you've been up to this point. You can help us or you can leave. What say you?" she shouted.

Many shouted and called out their acceptance. Marie stood stock still waiting for each and every reply. Glaring, the men and protesters before her quailed under her gaze and nodded their acquiescence.

"So mote it be," she replied in a deadly voice.

The magical backlash of the vow sounded like a clap of thunder in the Hall and flared out far and wide spreading across the lands of Britain. Marie felt power surge into her as she felt the offenders of the Oaths taken lose their powers. She dropped her knees as she felt person after person succumb to their offenses. Far and wide she instantly crippled the other side by a third.

Marcus dropped to her side. He was afraid to touch her because he didn't know what would happen, but his instincts screamed for him to do just that. He gritted his teeth and reached out to embrace her. Immediately he felt the jolt of power zinging from her to him. He could feel everything that she was feeling and drew ragged breaths trying to remain calm and anchor her as best he could. Both of them felt the euphoria of the magic coursing through them and the heated seductive urges that came with it.

The Coven stepped forward, pushing people out of the way and formed a protective circle around the pair. Marie's Guardians, pseudo family and friends stood guard on the outside of that circle and faced off against the masses. The castle rocked with the influx of power, as Marie had placed her hands palm down on the stone blocks. The castle and wards began absorbing the additional magics and reinforcing where there were weaknesses.

Harry and Hermione caught their Head of House, Professor McGonagall as she quaked with the excess magic and her knees gave out. Madam Pomfrey rushed to the older witch's side, checking her over. The Healer found that the Gryffindor Professor was fine, just overwhelmed by the influx of magic on her system. She turned to Marie and found that she and Marcus Flint where being tended to by the rest of the Coven.

Adrian and some of the other Slytherins present pushed towards the group to check on their friend. Marcus trembled while holding his witch in his arms. They were kneeling embracing each other, fighting the warm and seductive feeling of the magic that now danced along their bodies and strengthened their cores. He started when he felt Adrian place a hand on his shoulder.

Adrian cried out and yanked his hand back. "Bloody Hell mate!" he exclaimed. "What'd you zap me for?"

Marcus chuckled deeply, making Marie squirm and move against him unconsciously. "Not intentional mate," he said glancing down at Marie with a heated look. "Bit too much magic pumping through us at the moment."

"We need to go out and anchor some of it to the grounds," Marie said somewhat huskily. "We cannot overload the castle too much." Her voice was a bit breathy by the end.

Marcus staggered a bit to his feet, helping Marie to her own. He tucked her protectively to his side as the made their way out of the Hall towards the castle ground. The Coven flanked them, while Marie's allies cleared a path for them to walk. Most people in the Hall fled from the group, terrified by the display. Those that had caused trouble earlier were now regretting their actions. They would no longer cause any problems and hopefully they and their families would survive the come war.

Marie clung to Marcus, grateful that he had been there to help her get through the power overload. Her magic called to his and his responded in kind. Her body clenched in reaction and she felt a tingle run down her spine as he gently tightened his arm around her waist, pulling her more firmly against him.

The members of the Cover and her allies were mercifully silent about their actions and reactions. Most, if not all of them, could feel their reactions and magic along their bonds with one another. It was a private and intimate event that none of them would be commenting on. Even Marcus's friend remained silent and respective of the two.

They reach the grounds and walked swiftly towards the Forbidden Forest. Marie ignored their protests and urged them to follow. When they reached the edge Marie began chanting and dropped to her knees. The rest of the Coven formed the circle quickly around her and Katie Bell cast the circle around them rapidly. Their friends and allies formed another loose circle around them, catching on to the chanting and joining in, adding their voices.

Every person now sank to their knees prostrate, sinking their hands deep within the rich soil of the ground. Verse after verse, the power bounced from person to person through Marie, who sent the offering deep within the soil and out toward the magical forest. The trees groaned and the wards around the forest strengthened. The creatures and sentient beings within added their voices to the chanting as the ground began to buck and the winds swirled around them. Lightning arced in the skies and clouds formed, opening up and raining down on them all as if to wash away and cleanse the lands.

Darker, more sinister creatures that were not native to the lands fled the magic that reached out in tendrils, seeking to protect the forest. The Acromantula tried to flee and many of them shrieked and shriveled under the onslaught of magic. Hagrid tried to stop the circle when he heard the shrieks but he was blasted back by a protective barrier around the circle.

Their voices had reached a fever pitch and reached a crescendo as Marie felt some of the excess magic filter out. They pumped their offering and protections into the lands, seeking to cleanse and heal. It was an ancient ritual, one of the oldest and deepest magics that they knew.

As one their voices ceased and the magic flared out far and wide, enveloping the grounds and the surrounding lands. Marie slumped forward a little and called out to everyone to stay still until Katie had closed the circle. Their friends and allies were helped to sitting positions as Madam Pomfrey rushed forward with Pepper-Up potions for everyone.

Once the circle was closed and the deities thanked for their gifts and aid, the group relaxed. Marie sat back, uncaring of the mud soaking into her clothes. The sun had returned as the clouds cleared. She laid there with her body trembling from the magic she now held. Marcus walked over to her and pulled her up into his arms. Uncaring of their audience he cupped her face and kissed her with all that he had. When her knees buckled his arms banded around her waist and he pulled her against him. He plunged the kiss deeper and hotter still. Both of them felt pulses of magic urging them, tempting them for more.

"Oye!" Franco Zabini called out tiredly. "That's enough of that young man."

They parted and he rested his forehead on hers looking down at her. Both were breathing heavily. Around the circle there were similar embraces throughout the Coven. The influx of magic and the bonds they shared was a very intimate and sensual experience for those that wielded such power. Even those who joined outside of their circle felt something similar to their own significant others. The magic they all felt and wielded urged them to complete their bonds and become closer with their magic chosen mates.

"Alright you lot," Professor McGonagall called out to the group who had gained quite an audience. "Let's get you cleaned up and resting comfortably in the rooms set aside for you."

Marie looped her arm through Marcus's and the followed their former professor back towards the castle. The entire group was coated and caked with mud. They could easily be cleaned with a simple charm, but after such rituals, it was best to rest their magic. Sometimes if others performed magic on them it had adverse reactions on both parties.

The group made their way down the stairs towards the dungeons where the Slytherin housing was located. Like many other areas in the castle there were vast wings throughout the building that had been cleaned up and opened for use. There were still the main corridors of classrooms set aside for the schooling, but all other wings and rooms were now being used to house those seeking sanctuary and shelter.

Marie laughed throatily at the squishing and squelching sounds of their soggy group. They entered in the various rooms set aside for them and went to get cleaned up and changed. Marie and the ladies went to their area and the large baths that had been prepared for them by the elves. They sank in the clean and warm, soothing waters. They washed away the mud. There were rituals that called for going sky-clad, or starkers, thus they had no reservations around one another.

Marie stepped out of the bath and wrapped herself in a large fluffy towel. She made her way towards her rooms. Her body still ached, but the exhaustion that she had been feeling was gone. The magic seemed to have healed or sped up the additional healing that she had needed.

Glancing through the wardrobe, she pulled out a black pair of pants and a deep wine colored sheer shirt and tank top. After tugging her under things and clothing selected, she brushed out her hair and braided it back. Her medallion was displayed over her top, glowing with the magic that was still dancing along her skin. After finding a pair of flats, she made her way back to the magically expanded common room. Though they were not in the actual dorms used for the students, the rooms they were using were set up in a similar fashion.

Marie walked and plopped into one of the large plush chairs near the crackling fire. Though it was still technically summer, down in the dungeons it was rather cool. The fire helped to warm the dark rooms well below the ground. The rest of the group gradually reappeared and lounged around the room quietly talking. Marcus picked her up, ignoring her squeal of protest and sat in her chair with her sitting across his lap.

Marie huffed, but he just grinned cheekily at her. They sat like that talking and resting for quite some time before Marie felt the wards shift, allowing a large group entrance to the premises. The castle thrummed in anticipation and Marie caught a flash of who was traveling in her mind. She stood swiftly, ignoring the ache in her muscles and ribs. Her eyes were wide and her magic seemed to reach out, leading her towards the Entrance Hall.

Waving off the protests she swiftly rushed up the steps of the Slytherin Common Room to the entrance. Marie raced through the dungeon corridors, up flights of stairs, and around the corner leading towards the Great Hall. Her lungs burned and her ribs ached in protest from the strain.

Behind her were the rapid footfalls of her friends who were trying to catch up with her. With her lungs protesting, she reached the Entrance Hall just as the doors to the Great Hall were closing. Pausing to compose herself, she drew a few deep breaths, wincing as her ribs hurt with each breath.

By then Marcus and the rest of the Gray Coven had reached her side. The remaining members of her Guardians and friends followed at a more sedate pace. Marcus was the first to reach her side and checked her over in concern.

Looking down at the petite witch holding her side with a grimace, Marcus sighed in exasperation. Apparently his little witch was just as stubborn as he was. He touched her shoulder, drawing her attention to him.

"Are you alright?" Marcus asked gruffly.

Marie bit her lower lip and nodded. She knew that she shouldn't have pushed it, but she needed to get to the Great Hall as soon as possible. She had to see for herself that they were really there.

Rolling his eyes Marcus scooped Marie up and walked towards the Great Hall. He chuckled deeply at her squeak of surprise and ignored her protests as he walked with long strides to the doors. Sirius opened the door for them while laughing at Marie. He gave her a cheeky smile and sketched a mock bow as they passed.

There were raised voices in the Hall that ceased when Marcus strode in carrying Marie. She flushed in embarrassment at the stares and looks that she was receiving. There was a child-like shriek and little footfalls rapidly running. Marie looked around and saw that Remus had arrived with three very familiar little ones. They were distant cousins' children that had been sleeping in the nursery of their home when the attack had taken place.

Struggling against Marcus's hold, Marie tried to get down. He gently put her on her feet and watched her raced towards the center of the hall, dropping to her knees and holding her arms out to the small children. Remus approached carrying a gurgling infant. Marie embraced the two elder children, Edwin was just two and Ella was four. Remus crouched down holding little Ian who was just ten months old. Moira held the three children to her as tears were pouring down her face.

No one else from her family was present. The stark reality that these three small children were all that was left of her family was crushing. Little Ian would never see his parents, orphaned as an infant. He would never remember her cousin's wit and laughter or his mother's loving personality. Edwin and Ella were siblings, but they too were too young to remember for very long. They were a distant cousin's children. Marie was close to their mother Irene and though they were cousins, they were more like friends than family.

Edwin fussed and patted her face, tears streaking down his own cheeks. His confusion was evident as he asked for his parents. Little Ella knew something was wrong. She had heard the boogey men come and take their family away. She cried softly, clinging to Marie. Little Ian reached for Marie with a toothy smile. The smile faltered and his little chin trembled as he too began to cry. Even at his young age he knew something was wrong.

Marie reached out her hands for him and cradled him to her chest while sitting on the floor hugging the other two children. She hummed softly rocking the baby, while rubbing little Ella on the back. Drawing a shaky breath she fought for composure. Losing control of her emotions now would not help anyone. Tears were for later, when she was alone and no one could hear or see her grief. Right now she now had three small children who needed her.

"Alright little loves," Marie said hoarsely, "I've got you now."

"Mama!" Edwin wailed.

"I know you want your mama Eddie," Marie said sadly. "Mama and papa are-" her voice faltered as she searched for the right words to say to the child. "Your parents love you so very, very much sweetheart. They've gone away to Heaven. They're your angels now and can watch over you forever."

Ella sobbed and clung harder to Marie. Marie swallowed the lump forming in her throat. She looked around helplessly. Catching Remus's eye she nodded to him and offered him a shaky smile. He knelt down in front of Marie and looked her over carefully.

"It's been a long time old friend," he said kindly. "We've missed you."

"A very long time," she replied with a tired smile. "You've missed a bit while you were across the pond. We went and found a stray dog while you were away."

Remus looked at her in confusion and looked sharply to his right. He swayed and staggered to his feet seeing Sirius. His complexion had paled and he looked around the room in confusion. He saw the Prewetts, Regulus and Rabastan before turning back to Sirius.

"Padfoot?" he asked in a voice thick with emotion. "How is this possible?"

"Lady Stone and the Gray Coven," Sirius said stepping forward and embracing his friend.

"The Gray Coven?" Remus asked.

One by one the members of the group stepped forward in a semi-circle around where Marie was still sitting on the floor of the Great Hall. They all nodded in acknowledgement.

"There hasn't been a formal coven in decades if not longer!" a voice rang out in the crowded hall.

"There's a coven now," Sirius said smirking.

Marie stood with the help of Marcus who had gone to her side. She passed little Ian to the large Quidditch player and hoisted Edwin up. Ella raised her hands up as well and Marie bent to lift the toddler up. She gritted her teeth against the pain in her side and held her two charges securely on her hips. Marcus awkwardly held little Ian in his arms looking very much out of his element. Glancing at Marie he noticed her discomfort and offered to hold one of the other children in exchange, but Marie said that she was fine.

The members of the Coven closed ranks around Marie as the people in the hall began to crowd around. Hermione stepped forward and held her arms out to little Edwin who shyly went to the young woman. Marie adjusted her hold on Ella, but held the child who rested her head on her shoulder, snuggling into the crook of her neck.

Marie glanced at Marcus and swallowed thickly seeing him interact with Ian. The larger man gently held the baby talking to him softly and making faces at him, making the child giggle. Ian appeared captivated by Marcus's deep voice and gurgled up at him as he touched his cheek.

Marcus tried not to make a face as the drool covered little hand touched his cheek. Shrugging it off, he kept talking to the little guy in his arms. He grinned at the baby and chuckled deeply seeing the tot laugh. Looking up he caught Marie's eye and smiled at her.

"My responsibilities have changed a bit," Marie said to him. "I'm all that they have now. I have a responsibility to them and their families. I owe it to them to give them the life that their parents would have wanted."

"Love, I understand you don't have to explain anything to me," Marcus said.

Looking up into his eyes she searched for any indication that he was uncomfortable. "It's kind of a package deal now. I now have three charges that I'm going to love and raise as if they were my own," she murmured looking up into his eyes.

"Aye," he said looking down at his little witch. "Package deal indeed. I'm not against children, love."

Marie released the breath that she didn't know that she was holding and nodded to him. Marcus was clapped on the back by Adrian, who proceeded to poke and tickle little Ian. It was eye opening for the people in the Great Hall to see the Slytherins interacting with children, Muggle children at that.

"Come we have plans to make," Marie said to her now much larger group of friends. "We'll retreat to the Gaol and make our way to Stone Manor from there."

Marie allowed Professor McGonagall to escort them to the portkey zone. They had various groups adding to and layering on the existing wards, reinforcing what was there, but making them stronger as well. Each of the Houses and Families present were adding some of their own wards, weaving them into the tight network of wards and reactivating some of the more ancient wards. Similar teams were working on Dorcha Gaol and some of Marie's other properties as well as the many other safe houses that had been set up.

Marie held little Ella tightly as the portkey whisked the group to the Gaol Island. Marcus stood behind her, holding the baby against his chest protectively with one hand, while holding the portkey with his arm around her. Hermione stood in a similar stance with Harry at her side and Viktor wrapping his arm protectively around her and the small child that she held.

The group touched down at Dorcha Goal and moved out of the way for the next incoming portkey with the rest of the Marie's friends and Guardians. Marie led the way to one of the large sitting rooms within the Goal. Narcissa approached the children with a kind smile on her face and held her hand out to Ella, asking if she'd like to go read in the corner. Edwin clamored after his sister with Hermione following the energetic child as he toddled over.

Marie took little Ian from Marcus calling for Tidbit to have the elf bring a fresh diaper and a bottle for the now fussy baby. Tidbit popped back with the requested items and stood by wringing his hands anxiously. Marie smiled kindly at the elf and said that she would be able to manage the baby for now, but she may need help with the night feedings and changings. Marie waved off the little elf's protests and said that she would be sure to call if she needed assistance and thank him.

Sighing she held the baby and walked to a chair by the fireplace. She placed the burping cloth over her shoulder and fed Ian the warm bottle of formula. Having babysat many times, she knew what she was doing. She made sure to burp the greedy little baby at intervals, despite his grumbles and protests. When he was finally done she held him as he settled.

Laughing at his poor luck, Marie realized the poor little guy had the hiccups. She placed the baby on the ottoman and set out the changing mat and everything that she would need for the next task. The little stinker was just that, a stinker. With a practiced ease she changed him, making him laugh and gurgle happily. Quickly powdering him and putting a fresh diaper on she put him in a pair of soft pajamas and wrapped him in a warm blanket.

Tidbit and another elf had popped in to take away the soil diaper and clothes. They watched the fussy baby before popping away. Marie settled back into the chair near the fire and rocked the baby gently. Little Edwin and Ella who had both been changed as well climbed up to sit with her and snuggle.

Marie laughed softly and made room for the little ones. She swallowed her grief and smiled sadly at them. With a wave of her hand a blanket was conjured and draped over the children at her sides. Soon all three children had drifted off to sleep and she sat quietly watching the flames in the fire.

Around her conversations murmured quietly. Glancing to her right she found Marcus watching her, half listening to whatever Draco was saying to him. The blonde scowled and poked his friend in the side causing Marcus to grunt and look away.

Narcissa sat nearby with Serene and Antonio. Lucius stood behind his wife's chair talking with Rabastan and Regulus. Sirius and Remus were talking with the Prewetts. Harry stood by his godfather, as if afraid to leave his side. Hermione sat chatting with the other female members of the Coven. They had found that they all had so much in common despite their differences. The same could be said for the male members of the Coven as well as the members of Marie's Guardians and adoptive family members.

Brett and Miles entered the room with Micah in tow. The three larger men quietly made their way to where Marie was sitting with the sleeping children.

"Marie," Micah said softly, "lass, is there something that you should be telling us?" he asked jokingly.

Marie smirked. "Why yes these are my love children from my wild days of love 'em and leave 'em escapades," she replied. "You do of course know that it means that I was pregnant with little Ella when I was fifteen right?"

Micah looked green at the thought and scowled. "I'm sorry I asked." he grumbled.

"In all seriousness they're my cousins' children," she replied looking shattered. "They're all I have let, and I'm all that they have left."

"Lass I'm sorry," he said sincerely. "They're strong little cubs that have one Hell of an Alpha to raise them."

Marie snorted and nodded to him. Marcus had come over and sat on the arm of her chair looking down at the sleeping children. Though he wished the circumstances were better, he was glad that some of Marie's family had made it. Though few that they were, the children would help her heal in ways that the rest of them could not.

Marcus observed her from the other side of the room all night and felt a longing rise up in him that he had never felt before. He had always found children to be amusing, but hadn't ever really given it much thought about having his own. Now seeing Marie with her three little charges, he wanted to have that with her someday. A family with her and children of her own would be something that he would look forward to. In the meantime, he would be by her side every step of the way helping her with the little ones that had miraculously survived the slaughter that had orphaned all of them, including Marie. It would be good practice for when they did eventually have a family.

Marie had watched Marcus earlier and had similar thoughts. She could feel her magic calling to him and felt his reply in kind. There would be no denying what the future held for them. Now, however, was not the time to complicate things too much as there was a war looming and she now had three small children that depended on her. Contingency plans would need to be made. She would have to plan for worst case scenario to ensure their safety and future. She of course wanted to be part of that future, but she would do all that she can to make sure that they would survive, even if it meant sacrificing her own life.

Tidbit popped in and let Marie know that the elves at Stone Manor and Dorcha Gaol had set up nurseries for the little ones. Marie thanked the elf and asked him to make sure that there were rooms ready for guests at Stone Manor. Marcus reached down and hefted Ella and Edwin up in his arms, freeing Marie to stand with Ian. They made their way to the Floo with the others following. Narcissa held her hands out for Edwin, saying that Floo-ing with one child was nerve wracking enough.

Marie stepped in with Ian and bundled him close to her chest. She called out the Floo address and was whisked away to a place that she hadn't seen in a while. For her it was only a matter of days, but for the members of her staff it had been decades.

"Lady Stone!" Lynn, an aging Squib that had on the property as part of the staff along with her family called out.

Marie looked up with a smile and held a finger to her lips indicating to the child that she cradled. Stepping further into the room, Marie waved a hand and vanished the soot from both of them and waited for the others. Her Floo and that of the Gaol and Hogwarts had been warded to prevent intrusion or attacks. The rune work had taken Bill and Fleur Weasley days to finish, but the finished product allowed people to come and go safely.

Marcus stepped through with Ella sleeping peacefully in his strong arms. Marie vanished the soot from them and Narcissa who stepped through with Edwin. Marie caught the look of longing on Narcissa's face and knew that something had to have happened to prevent her and Lucius from having more children. She remembered the long talks with the females in her year about how many children they wanted to have and their plans for the future and family. Narcissa had definitely wanted at least two or three children.

Marie looked at her friend and felt out with her magic. There was darkness and a taint that hadn't been there. She found concentrated areas of dark, oily magic lingering and poisoning Narcissa. Marie pulled back breathing hard and shook herself. She noticed that Marcus looked at her sharply, but she shook her head to him.

"Let's get them down to sleep before we chat." she said quietly.

They made their way up to the second level. Lynn had shown them that the nursery had been set up right across the hall from Marie's suite of rooms. The room had been done in soft yellow and green. There were murals on the walls and rich walnut colored furniture. One wall had built in shelves and bookcases holding the belongings that had been collected for the children.

Marie entered the room and walked towards the lone crib. She gently placed Ian on the mattress and covered him. Walking to Marcus's side she turned down the bed and helped him to settle Ella into the very feminine bed. Marie smiled softly and brushed the dark curls from the little girl's face. They pulled the blankets up and tucked her in. They made their way to where Narcissa was tucking in little Edwin with Lucius standing and watching with a sad look upon his face.

Marie paused and reached out with her magic, much as she had with Narcissa and found a similar problem with her friend. She refocused and went Edwin's side. Edwin had unruly dark brown curls just like his sister. They had inherited them from their father, while their clear blue eyes were all their mother. Marie brushed the hair on his brow gently and leaned in to kiss him.

She ached for the children and knew that it would be a difficult transition for them in the coming days and months. Marie vowed to do all that she could to help them and be there for them.

With a sigh she stood and nodded to Marcus and the elder Malfoys. Narcissa paused and showed Marie a series of charms and wards to alert her if the children woke in the night or became distressed. As they left the room, she also showed Marie a ward blocking the little ones from climbing on the stairs unattended until they were older.

Marie smiled and nodded in thanks, leading them back to the Great Room of her home. She breathed in deeply and let herself drift back to the days spent here with her Guardians and friends. The large exposed beam cathedral ceilings were warm and inviting. At the far end of the room was a massive field stone fireplace and built in shelving. There were numerous seating arrangements around the room where the rest of the Coven and Marie's allies and Guardians were now lounging and waiting. Marie pointedly waved Marcus to go ahead. Before going further into the room Marie turned to address the Malfoys.

"I know that something happened while I was gone," Marie said quietly. "It is not my place to pry, but I know you wanted more children."

"Marie," Lucius said tightly.

"Please let me finish," she said holding up her hands in a placating manner. "I found dark magic residue in both of you that I think can be removed or repaired. You don't have to tell me the exact details, but I need to know generally speaking what I'm going to be fighting against with this."

"Bellatrix" Lucius hissed painfully. "The psychotic b*t cursed first Narcissa and then myself. We almost lost Draco when he was still in the womb. When Narcissa gave birth to a healthy, albeit premature son, Bellatrix went off the deep end and cursed us both. We haven't been able to bear any more children since."

Marie nodded and pulled the two to the side. "I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do, but I will help you." Marie said. "We'll have to research it a bit and I may need the help and full strength of the Coven, but I'll do all that I can. It is the least that I can do to repay you for all that you've done."

Narcissa embraced the younger woman while quietly crying. Lucius swallowed thickly and gently hugged his young friend. Draco had come over and heard the truth of what had happened to his parents. He was pale and shaky as he went to his mother's side.

Marie stepped away and allowed the family some privacy before making her way towards the open seat by the fire. She looked around the room and nodded to the Zabinis, Prewetts, and Dowager Lady Longbottom who had brought her grandson along.

Marie regarded Augusta and paused. She stood stock still be her chair and whipped out her wand and snapped off two patronus messages. The room around her fell silent as they listened to her orders to send guards to St. Mungo's and prepare for an extraction team.

August sat ramrod straight. "Explain!" she barked out sternly.

Marie snorted at her in a very unladylike fashion. "I know that you have had to deal with things that I was not here for Lady Longbottom, however I expect that you'll speak to me in a manner of respect and not bark out orders at me." Marie stated firmly. "I respect you and care for you a great deal milady; however I will not be spoken to in my own home in such a manner."

Augusta swelled and then deflated and nodded. "I apologize Lady Stone," she said softly. "I just worry for my son and his wife."

Marie nodded and calmed. "I understand," she replied. "If you will give me a chance I will explain, but we need to come up with a plan. The vulnerable patients need to be evacuated from the hospital and brought to secure hidden locations immediately. Their safety is paramount and we must make sure that they are moved by the end of the night."

"What is going on Marie?" Sirius asked in concern.

Marie looked down and bit her lip before looking up to address the group again. "I fear that there will be more attacks and retaliations by the Dark Tosser and his rabble. The patients, particularly the Longbottoms, are in danger and vulnerable." she told them softly.

Brett and Miles entered the room in full tactical gear. Behind them waiting in the hall was the rest of the team. Marie made her way to them and repeated what she had said in her patronus message. They nodded and conferred before leaving with their group. Marie wanted to go, but everyone protested, reminding her that she was still healing.

Marie watched them go. She clenched and unclenched her hands, willing herself to remain at Stone Manor. Drawing a calming breathe she turned to find Marcus making his was to her side. His magic reached out to hers and engulfed her, soothing and caressing.

"Come love, you need your rest," he said leading her to her chair. "Sit, put your feet up and relax."

Marie sat in the chair and leaned back closing her eyes for a moment. She sat up and watched as everyone settled in and began giving briefings on what had happened. Severus had taken a seat near the windows with Regulus and Rabastan at his side. They watched silently often nodding to what the others in the room said.

Thirty minutes into the discussion Marie felt a tug and then a zing. She stood and looked around catching Narcissa's eye. Marie stood from her chair with her eyes wide. There were screams shattering the silence in the rooms on the floor above them. She sprinted out the door and up the stairs two at a time with Marcus and Narcissa hot on her trail.

The doors to the nursery were thrown open as Marie entered the hall and raced towards the screams and cries of the children. She skidded into the room and looked around for any dangers, though logically she knew that no one could pass through her wards undetected.

Ella and Edwin were huddled on the floor together near Ian's crib. They were trembling in fear with haunted looks on their eyes. The older children were crying, asking for their parents. Ian had fat tears rolling down his cheeks.

Marie crossed the room, scooping Ian from his crib before crouching down to the other two children. Marcus was at her side, while Narcissa hovered uncertainly at the door. Lucius had joined his wife while others waited, crowding in the hallway.

Marcus swallowed thickly, choking down on the fury he felt at those responsible for orphaning the little family in front of him. He gently lifted Edwin and Ella and walked with them in his arms towards the sitting area with large plush chairs. Marie paced, rocking and crooning to the hiccupping and sobbing infant. Once he had settled enough she took the chair next to Marcus and sat listening to him read to the little ones in a deep rumbling voice. He had calmed them down enough to ask them which story they'd like read to them.

Sweet little Ella in her lisping voice requested one of the many nursery rhymes books. Edwin nodded in agreement sniffling sadly, clinging tightly to Marcus's side. Marcus just smiled kindly at them and summonsed the book from the shelf. He chuckled deeply seeing their wide eyed expressions.

Marie smiled softly at them and continued rocking the baby in her arms. Ian had since quieted and was snuggled against the crook of her neck. She could feel the little puffs of his breath along her skin, as well as the copious amounts of drool from his teething mouth. Oh well, she thought and acknowledged it would be something that she would need to get used to from now on.

Finally the children calmed enough for Marie to tell them that her room was right across the hallway. She explained that this was their room in one of her homes and that they could each have their own rooms when they were older. She assured them that this was their home now and that she would be taking care of them. Marcus told them that he would also be nearby should they need him. They both reassured the children that they were indeed safe and that the boogey men couldn't ever get them there.

Marcus held the two children sniffling softly against his chest and let them cry it out. His heart broke for the children and for Marie who had a haunted look on her face. He realized that we would have to make sure that she too was alright and able to sleep that night. While the children may have heard their family's demise, Marie had witnessed it and been right in the middle of the chaos and carnage.

"Alright there love?" he asked in a whisper as they stood to tuck the children back into their beds.

Marie nodded tiredly, "Yes, I'll be fine."

When the little ones were tucked in, they tiptoed out of the nursery to the hallway, leaving the door cracked open. Narcissa and Lucius informed them that many of the others retired to the rooms set aside here or returned to either the Gaol or Hogwarts. Lucius regarded the younger man silently for a moment, causing Marcus to shift uncomfortably on his feet.

"Watch of them and take care of them," Lucius said softly.

Marcus nodded to him solemnly. "I will sir," he replied.

Marie watched the exchange with a raised eyebrow and a smirk. "Permission Lucy?" she asked teasingly.

Lucius scowled at the moniker. "I gave no such thing," he replied. "I was just telling him that it is his place and job to look after you and the children."

"I can take care of myself you know," she said in exasperation. "I am an adult despite what some people seem to think of me. Not that I will mind the help."

Lucius looked at her incredulously. "You're nothing but trouble Marie," he said deadpan. "You need someone to look after you. It's clear to all of us and magic itself that you two are going to be together. So regardless of what others might say, he should be there to help, when we cannot."

Marie nodded and smiled. She reached up on her tiptoes and kissed the older man on the cheek, causing him to flush and grumble a bit. Narcissa's tinkling laughter rang out as she looped her arm through her husband's. They took their leave and were heading back to their rooms at Dorcha Gaol.

Marie glanced at Marcus and shrugged. "I guess you're with me," she said softly. "If you'll call your elf to bring you something to sleep in, I'll show you my rooms."

Marcus called out for his personal elf that returned with the requested items and left with a bow and soft pop. The pair entered the master suite and walked further into the room. Marie smiled seeing that everything was left just as it had been the day she had disappeared. She showed him the rooms and pointed him in the direction of the bathroom where he could change while she dug around for a change of clothes for the night.

She ducked back into her room and swiftly changed into the soft cotton shorts and tank top before he returned. Grabbing her dirty clothes she tossed them into the hamper and went to turn down the bed. Fussing with the blankets nervously, she tried to calm down.

Marie nervous glanced at the door and bit her lip. She silently tiptoed to check on the children still sleeping soundly in the nursery across the hallway. With a sigh she walked back and left the door of her room open halfway so that if the children needed her, they could come to her room.

She turned to find Marcus leaning against the large post of her bed. Swallowing thickly she silently made her way across the room. He held his hand out for her and Marie placed her smaller hand in his much larger one. Marcus brought her hand to his lips and he kissed the back of it and wink playfully at her as he led her to her side of the bed and playfully scooped her up and plopped her on the mattress. He walked around the bed and climbed in on the other side, pulling the blankets up over both of them in the process.

"Everything alright with the little ones," he asked softly, pulling her back against his chest with his arm around her.

Marie nodded, yawning sleepily. It had been a very long and exhausting day. They both drifted off to sleep, but were awoken by the door hitting the wall nearby in the middle of the night. Ella and Edwin had made their way to the room. Marcus reached over and helped them up onto the much larger bed, where they burrowed under the blankets and drifted off to sleep.

Marie slipped out of the bed to check on the baby. She found Ian laying on his back cooing and holding his feet with his chubby little hands. Smiling down at the child, she summonsed Tidbit and requested a fresh bottle for the tot. The elf popped away and returned a short while later. Taking the bottle, she thanked the elf and sat in a rocking chair feeding him.

She blinked back tears thinking of her cousin, who had adored and doted on this little miracle. Brushing the soft tufts of hair from his brow, she gently rocked him as he greedily sucked down the bottle. Once he had his fill, she brought him over to the changing table and put on a fresh diaper.

The poor little boy was so very exhausted from his long day. He struggled, trying to stay awake, but eventually lost his battle and drifted to sleep. Marie wound up the mobile above the crib and switched on a lamp in the corner of the room. When she was sure that he was completely settled and asleep, she went back to her room to find Marcus snuggled with Edwin and Ella.

Laughing softly to herself she climbed into her side of the bed and wrapped her arms around Ella facing Marcus. Glancing up from the children, she noticed that he sleepily looked over at her and smiled softly. He clasped her hand and intertwined his fingers with her own. They drifted off to sleep that way, safe and secure.

The next morning Marie awoke to the loud whisper yelling of her male friends. Franco Zabini, her lone male Guardian left, stood at the end of her bed looking livid. Marie rolled her eyes at them and waved them out of the room. When they went to protest she pinned them with a look that gave them pause.

"You will notice there are two small children sleeping in the bed with us," she hissed at them in exasperation. "It has been a long night for all of us. You will not come in here to my home, into my bedroom and start posturing and making demands. I allowed it twenty years ago because I had no choice as a minor. I'm an almost twenty one year old woman, who now has three children to look after. I respect and love all of you, but you will show me the same common courtesy that you would show others in their homes."

Franco looked ready to burst, but Elena tugged his arm and gave him a look that had him swallowing whatever protest was forming on his lips. The other males were facing similar reactions from the other women and females.

Marcus sat up in the bed, careful not to wake the children. He reached over and covered them back up before even acknowledging the others in the room. He was upset and angry on many levels. Many of these men knew him, and knew that he was a man of honor. That they would doubt him or Marie was unacceptable.

Ella whimpered in her sleep, drawing his attention back down to the little child near Marie. He sighed and scrubbed a hand over his face in exhaustion. With a tense posture Marcus stood from the bed and faced the people that had barged into Marie's room with little respect for her person or privacy.

"I would not dare to barge into the Master suite in any of your homes unannounced and unwelcomed," Marcus gritted out in a harsh whisper. "For you to do that here to Marie is unacceptable. You will all leave this room immediately and head down to the main level of the house and wait for the Lady of the Manor to speak with you when she is ready to do so. Should she take offense to this repeat in disrespect, you will apologize accordingly."

Marie snorted in response and breezed from the room to her dressing room. She ignored their presence as she selected her clothes for the day and went to the adjoining bathroom. By the time she returned she was dressed and showered for the day and the others had left. Ella and Edwin were sitting up on the bed smiling shyly at Marcus who was showing them a few magical tricks and levitating one of the pillows.

"Good morning kiddos," Marie called out cheerfully. "Let's get you dressed and get Ian before we head down for breakfast alright?"

She smiled up at Marcus as he stood and leaned up to kiss him on the cheek. "Thank you," she whispered softly before ushering the children from the room.

Marie helped them change and get ready before getting little Ian ready. He stood in his crib bouncing, waiting with a toothy grin. She laughed and scooped him up blowing raspberries on his belly as she walked him over to the changing table. Changing him quickly and putting him in a new set of clothes for the day, she grabbed him a blanket and herded the other two children towards the stairs.

Marcus met them in the hallway on their way by. He held out his hand and Ella grasped it on their way to the large stair case. Marie held Ian, while holding little Edwin's hand. She instructed him to hold the railing with one hand and hold her hand with the other hand as they made their way down the stairs.

They finally made it to the bottom of the stairs before Marie asked Marcus to take Ian and keep the kids back for a few moments. She drew on her magic and placed her hand on the banister and began whispering. She placed a series of protective and cushioning charms on the entire stair case from attic to the lower basements and dungeons. No one in her hole would be injured from a fall down the stairs, except perhaps some bruises and a bruised ego, but nothing serious.

Surveying her work, she turned back towards he charges and held hands out to Ella and Edwin, leaving Marcus holding the drooling and gurgling baby. She grinned at him over her shoulder mischievously and laughed as she led the two toddlers towards the large dining room.

Upon entering the room they were greeted by a somewhat bashful and subdued group of people. Many of them looked properly chastised. Marie sniffed snootily at them and walked past them with the children to the far end of the table where the Head of House normally sat. She settled them into their chairs and called for Tidbit to bring juice, fruit, eggs and toast for them. Another elf popped in with a high chair and Marie helped Marcus get Ian secured into the chair and asked Tidbit to bring some apple sauce and Cheerios for the little one to crunch on as well as some Cream of Wheat for him as well as breakfast for herself and Marcus.

Marcus grunted in thanks and reached blurrily for his first cup of coffee. He drank tea now and then still as any respectable Brit would, but once his teammate had introduced him to coffee he refused to drink anything else in the morning. The bitter rich taste burst over his taste buds as he took a sip.

Marie smiled at him over the rim of her own cup. It had been a long night for both of them. They both woke up with the Edwin and Ella coming into the room. They did the best that they could to soothe the grief stricken and confused children. While Marie went to check on Ian, Marcus had gotten up to make sure that everything was alright. He watched her handle the baby with a speculative look on his face. They laid the baby back down to sleep and returned to Marie's room and went back to sleep.

It would be a lot of adjustment on her part to now have three children to raise. She would need to make plans with multiple back up plans and means of escape to protect the little ones. Marcus squeezed her hand supportively and nodded to her, seemingly reading her thoughts. Looking around she caught Narcissa's eye.

"Lady Malfoy, Narcissa," Marie said softly, "House Stone has a favor to ask of you."

"Marie, we're friends there's no need for formalities," Narcissa replied. "What can House Malfoy do to be of assistance?"

The table had gone silent. Marie regarded each of them as they looked on in interest. It was rare that Marie would directly ask for a favor, particularly making it House business.

"I know that you and yours now have to hide and protect yourselves due to your roles in all of this. For that I am deeply sorry," Marie said. "I now find myself with three young charges and in need of help looking after them. I cannot stop my part in this fight. I ask that you please help me and look after them when I cannot be there."

Narcissa looked towards Lucius with such a look of hope in her eyes that he could not deny her. They had both longer for a larger family. It had been nearly seventeen years since they had been around a baby. Seeing little Ian caused an ache and a pang in both of them. It was no surprise when Lucius nodded, kissing his wife's knuckles.

"I would be happy to help," Narcissa said with a bright smile.

Marie nodded her head in thanks and turned back to the children who had watched with wide eyes. She smiled softly at them and motioned for them to continue eating. When they were finished she waved her hand and they were cleaned of any mess that they had made.

"I would like to introduce you all to my charges, my little cousins," Marie announced to the room. "This is Ella and Edwin Covington, ages four and two respectively. Their mother Irene was my cousin. And this little man is Ian Stone; he will be a year in early November. His father Philip was also my cousin."

The rest of Marie's guests greeted the children cheerfully. Marcus stood and ushered Marie and the little ones back towards the Great Room. The rest of the Coven and Marie's friends followed. Those that weren't present began flooing in shortly after. Miles and Micah showed up, letting Marie know that Brett was at Trinity and sending out messages to the others. They brought word that the evacuation plans for St. Mungo's were nearly complete.

Nicolai arrived with Petrov and a few of the Bulgarian Quidditch players. Augusta Longbottom floo'd in with Neville and made their way over towards where the Zabinis were sitting. Severus arrived looking exhausted having spent much of the evening brewing to add to the medical supplies of the Infirmaries.

Marie passed little Ian off to Narcissa who cooed over the baby, making him laugh as she tickled his belly. Seeing her friend so happy brought a smile to Marie's face and strengthened her resolve to find a way to heal them.

The Great Room magically expanded to accommodate the influx of people that arrived. Three generations of those willing to stand by what was right were assembled. They hashed out the remaining plans that would lead them up to the beginning of the school year. It had been agreed and decided that the rotation of people from the Gaol would continue for added security and to also help train the people that were arriving daily.

Marie nodded and made suggestions as needed. Across the room she noticed that Darius Meyers was present. He had aged well, she mused while observing him. His posture was stiff and he would not meet her eye. Ah, so the man still felt guilt, she thought to herself.

Beside him was a somewhat familiar looking woman. Marie snorted and grinned at her, instantly recognizing Sophia de Luca, now Meyers apparently. Serene's twin sister had apparently taken her words to heart and gone after Darius. She was happy for them.

Her attention was drawn back to Miles and Micah as they advised her that her presence would be needed at Trinity and the other two clubs over the next few weeks. She smirked towards her Guardians and older friends in response. Francis, who had arrive this morning and stood beside his uncle at the end of her bed noticed her look and blanched.

"Cara," he said cautiously. "What thoughts have given you such a mischievous look?"

"Oh nothing to worry yourself over Francis," she smiled with her eyes sparkly. "I'll be going to the clubs as discussed in the next few days."

"That's not answering my question," he said with a frown.

Marie grinned and laughed. "I get to finally go publically as the owner," she said with a saucy smile. "It's time to shake things up a bit and have some fun."

Those that knew her well looked ready to swear, but she pointedly looked at the children at her side. They quelled under her gaze and that of their significant others.

"How is that different from things twenty years ago?" Serene asked with an innocent look.

"I will be able to relax and let loose a little bit," Marie replied. "I won't have to worry too much about acting in a way that others would find completely scandalous because things in the nineties are very different than the seventies. That's not to say I'll become a harlot, so get those looks off of your faces. I'll just be able to be a little bit more like myself."

"Wait," Draco said from beside his father, "what is so different about Muggle clubs and dancing from the Wizarding kind?"

Hermione giggled from her seat near Harry and caught Marie's eye. The sound drew the attention of others in the room. She blushed and put her head down, not meeting their eyes. Harry grinned and bumped shoulders with his friend while chuckling.

Marie laughed, turning back to Draco. "Oh I do believe we'll have to take a road trip to educate you poor deprived Wizarding children," she said with a smirk. "Micah can you make sure there are a number of tables set a side tomorrow night? Perfect. I'm assuming that the manager has kept to the business plan laid out and that we've got some of the best DJ's, again perfect. This will be fun."

Daphne Greengrass shared a look with the other Pureblood girls of the Coven that had no idea what she was talking about. Hermione smiled reassuringly at them as did Marie. They both let the girls know that they'd help them select something appropriate to wear for the evening. The plan was to make a day of it and to take the Purebloods shopping in Muggle London for the necessary attire for the evening.

Marcus looked at Marie with a raised eyebrow. She grinned at him playfully and laughed softly. He smirked at her and squeezed her side causing her to squeak. His rumbling laugh caused her to flush and look up at him through her eye lashes.

"Will you be joining us?" she asked teasingly.

"Love, if you think you're going there without me, you're mistaken," he said gruffly in reply. "You're trouble, plain and simple."

"I resent that remark," she said in mock seriousness. "I'm not trouble; trouble just seems to find me. Besides it's just dancing, what's the harm in that?"

"Little vitch," Petrov said with a warm look, "Listen to the man. You vitch are temptress and seductress. Dance vith you is trouble."

Marcus pinned the man with a look and fought back a growl when he saw the smug look on his face. He glanced at Marie who grinned and shrugged. Francis Zabini also flashed her a wink and a grin. Perhaps her going dancing was not a good idea, he mused.

"That's enough boys!" Elena Zabini called out. "Marie has conducted herself in a perfectly respectable and acceptable manner."

Marie smiled innocently, but she didn't fool anyone in the room. She was the perfect little lady when the setting called for it. At home however, she was more relaxed. Now, more so with the children present.

Sobering slightly, Marie addressed the group. "While there will be some time to unwind, there will still be business that I need to attend to while at the clubs," she reminded them. "The clubs are fun, but they are still a business. There is still a job that needs to be done."

"Vhen dis is over," Petrov said drawing her attention back to him, "you play Quidditch? Coach vants you on team."

Marie laughed throatily. "Boys and their games," she said teasingly. "We will see what the future holds for me. I don't want to give an answer now, but I wouldn't be opposed to playing for a while."

Marcus shifted closer to her and peered down at the petite woman. As a professional Quidditch player on one of the roughest teams in the league, he knew how dangerous and physical the sport could get. Marie was a little thing, and the thought of her playing on a team was a bit unsettling.

Marie noticed his concerned look and shrugged. Her friends and Guardians had similar concerns back in the seventies, and apparently there were still the same concerns. There was nothing for it though. If she chose to play, then she would be playing.

The meeting was called to an end as there was nothing else to discuss. Marie left the children with "auntie" Narcissa while she went to escort everyone to the portkey points and the floo. She nodded to everyone and spoke briefly with them.

Sophia greeted her warmly, but left rather quickly saying that she needed to get home to the children. Darius paused and apologized, looking pained seeing her again after so many years. She nodded to him and felt Marcus come to stand behind her. She didn't even need to turn around to know that it was him, her magic recognized his. Darius took one look at the scowling man and took his leave rather quickly.

When the last person had finally left Marie sagged against him. They returned back to the Great Room to find the Gray Coven present as well as some of her old friends and Guardians. The room had gone quiet, knowing that Marie would most likely be giving them a dressing down from this morning.

The Gray Coven had said and done nothing about that morning, most of them didn't see the problem, especially with the way that all of their bonds were progressing. The Purebloods in the group could understand the concerns, but they too felt the magic and understood the implications. It was mostly a younger generation in the group. Those that were older were now very much a part of the group in their preserved and youthful bodies. So despite actually being older, their bodies were much younger.

Marie regarded the group carefully and sat quietly with Marcus next to her. Their magic was calling to them, and all in the Gray Coven for constant contact. Their shoulders touched, or their hands brushed against one another's often subconsciously. It was a driving need and instinct for them to expand and complete the bond with their mates when the time came. Though many of them were not ready yet, it would not be long before the desire to do so was too strong to fight against any longer.

"What you need to understand," Marie began softly, "is that I love and respect you all. With that said I am shocked and appalled that you would come here, to my home and my private rooms and make demands of me. No let me finish." She said effectively silencing them.

"I would hope that through my words and actions you would all trust and respect me enough to know the type of person that I am," she said in a quiet voice. "I relied on you all when I had no one else. You helped me to adjust and fit into a world. You protected me and guarded me. You stood by me through things no one else will ever begin to understand. So I'm wondering how and why you would assume the worst of me."

When no one said anything she continued. "Have I not behaved in a respectful and honorable manner? Have I not upheld the codes and creeds of our Peers? If I have done all of these things, what reason or right would you have to barge into my rooms like that?" she asked hoarsely. "Just weeks ago Serene cast that thrice be-damned charm on me, proving my innocence and purity. In the time since then I have been too injured to even think about pouncing on the man, let alone follow through with it. Honestly!" she said in exasperation. "Give me a little credit for being able to control my hormones."

Marcus snorted next to her and swallowed thickly at the end of her rant. This witch was trouble, but it would be interest to see how things between them progressed. They had all been instructed by their Elemental and Druid mentors about the bonds and what they would mean. They all knew what to expect and plan ahead for.

"You all know about the bonds!" she exclaimed. "You know what will and is supposed to happen! You cannot and will not interfere. To do so would be disastrous. That doesn't mean that we're careless or have loose morals. This Coven will comport itself in a manner above reproach at all times. Should we be inclined to complete the bonds, it is no one else's business, have I made myself clear?" she asked firmly.

Seeing no objections and the slumped postures of the older generation in the room she nodded. Standing she asked if Narcissa would like to stay here at Stone Manor or Dorcha Gaol. Seeing the conflicted look, Marie told her that they could split their time between the two if need be, to which the Malfoys and everyone else agreed to. They would be popping in at Hogwarts, especially those that needed to complete their formal education still. The rest however would be working outside of the wards to draw in the key players exactly where they wanted them.

Marie had set back the Dark Lord and his followers quite a bit and bought them enough time to make their final moves on the Horcruxes and getting as many people to safety as possible. From the messages flowing in to the drop box, the dark idiot was still down and out for the time being and Bellatrix was barely clinging to life. The Lightning bolt hit home and they would spend months recovering, especially now that Severus had defected.

The group would spend the day recovering from the ritual the day before. Marie sent Miles to check in at the Gaol and Micah to check in at Hogwarts. They would be reporting back in the afternoon. Brett was scheduled to stop in around lunch time.

Marie sat with the children and asked them if they were okay or if there was anything that they wanted from home that they didn't have here. Remus and the others had gone on behalf of Marie and taken care of everything. The government officials, who had delayed and barred their entry prior to the event, were now bending over backwards to accommodate anything that Marie and the three orphaned children needed. They felt culpability towards what happened. The estates were settled quickly and held in trust for the surviving family members. The American branch of Gringott's handled the entire affair with little trouble. Marie would provide for the children and their family's assets would be dispersed to them in increments starting at eighteen up until they received complete control and gained access to the bulk of their inheritances at thirty.

Remus had arrived just as they watched Marie disappear. With a snarl he attacked Greyback viciously and subdued the older wolf before putting him down. Marie was a pack-mate, what had happened to her was a personal affront and attack on the various members of the packs that Marie had welcomed with open arms. They were merciless in their retribution on those responsible for the loss of Marie's family and Marie herself. When she didn't reappear they had feared the worst.

He sat quietly next to Sirius near the large stone fireplace watching everyone in the room. Mooney rumbled mentally in contentment over having part of his pack back. The return of his pack-mates was balm to his tortured soul. He could not and would not lose them again.

Marie sat on the floor listening to Edwin chatter and watching him push his toy car around. Ella was snuggled against her side holding her doll. Nearby little Ian was holding himself up on Lucius's knees, with Narcissa sitting on the floor nearby. Draco watched their interaction with a sad smile on his face. Having heard the truth about what his mother's sister had done, he felt a sense of loss that wasn't there before. Who knew how life might have been if she hadn't cursed his parents.

"Auntie Marie?" Ella asked softly. "Are you gonna leave us too?" she asked in a wobbly voice.

Marie pulled the toddler onto her lap and hugged her tightly. "Sweetheart, listen to me," she said gently. "I'm going to do everything that I can to make sure that I don't. If something does happen to me the people here, my friends will take very good care of the three of you. Hush, it's okay. If I'm not there or able to, they'll keep you safe. I promise that you won't be alone."

Marie rocked the little girl in her arms, fighting back her own tears. Edwin had scrambled over when he heard his sister crying and launched himself at the pair. His mommy had said hugs and kisses always made it better, so he tried. Marie chuckled sadly and welcomed the little boy onto her lap as well.

"Let me tell you a story about you parents when we were younger," she said softly.

The children snuggled into her shoulders and listened quietly as Marie told them about their parents. She told them about how they met and became friends. She told them stories about all of their family members that she could think of until the pair fell asleep.

Sighing she looked down at them and smiled sadly before looking up to see Marcus at her side ready to take the kids so she could get up. He gently took Edwin first and passed him to the waiting arms of Narcissa before reaching down to take Ella. He cradled the little girl against his larger frame and reached a hand down to help Marie up. Lucius came over and passed Ian to Marie and the group headed upstairs to put the little ones down for a brief nap.

When the children were settled into their beds, Marie renewed the charms and they headed back down stairs. She met with the Coven and explained to them that tomorrow night she would be meeting up with some of the people behind the scenes. When they asked she primly informed them that she would tell them the details at the right time.

The floo in the other room sounded and Tidbit announced that there was an urgent message for Lady Stone. Marie swiftly made her way to the front drawing room. She crouched near the fireplace and found that Miles was on the other end. Apparently some of the Ministry flunkies had shown up at Hogwarts and were demanding that she be turned over.

Marie said she'd be there in a few moments and told him to hold them off. Miles nodded, but was interrupted from replying by shouting in the background. The floo abruptly shut off and the runes on the fireplace flared.

Marie was seething. Her hair crackled and her magic sparked brightly. She stood and turned from the room. Racing up the steps she took them two at a time to her rooms and raced to the wardrobe. She yanked out a black pair of tactical pants and tank top. On top of that a dragon hide vest corset was tied tightly. She braided her hair out of the way and began tugging on the dragon hide boots and vambraces. Carefully, she checked the blades of her daggers and tucked one in each boot as well as added one to a belt on her thigh.

Turning she exited her room and met the rest of the Coven in the hallway. All of them had gone and dressed in similar gear and looked ready to battle. Marie nodded to them grimly before addressing Narcissa and the others staying behind or going to the Gaol.

"Make sure the others are on alert," she told them. "Have teams fan out and start beefing up the wards and security. No one unauthorized gets in or out."

Pulling out a length of rope she stretched it out to the group. Saying the pass code it activated and they were whisked away. They landed on booted feet in the Great Hall of Hogwarts ceasing all conversations and skirmishes around the room.

Marie looked out over the hall coldly. "Who dares come here making demands?" she asked.

"Seize her!" a voice shouted.

Marie threw her arms out and threw the group back on their butts, making the others give pause. Swirling her hands in a familiar motion to those who knew her, she disarmed them all. She snapped her right fingers and they found themselves bound and gagged on the floor.

"You were saying?" she sneered coldly down with the man who thought himself in charge.

"Release us at once!" he shouted. "By order of the Minister of Magic-"

"There is no Minister of Magic," she cut him off. "There is however Martial Law. Those who wish to live will listen carefully and abide by what I'm about to say. Should you be found to be hostile, well I'll let the castle deal with you accordingly. Similar wards have been placed on the dungeons here as those found at Dorcha Gaol, your magic will be sucked dry within a month."

The man paled and watched her with wide eyes. Marie laughed harshly and surveyed the hall. She noticed that a number of the intruders were being treated for wounds from the Muggle weapons that wizards often sneered over. At front and center she saw Dan Granger standing there ready to put down anyone that made an aggressive or intimidating move.

Marie crouched down near the man who had given orders to take her. He shook in fear, but could not move. Her wand was now jabbing into his jugular and beginning to glow brightly and hotly. The man whimpered fearfully. This would not end well, at the very least he would be dragged down to the bowels of the castle to spend the remainder of his miserable existence. He had the taint of darkness around him and though he did not bear the Mark, he sympathized with those that did.

Standing she turned to the people in the Hall. Some were being helped out to be treated for injuries from an apparent altercation with the Ministry personnel. Standing off to the side with a familiar group of red heads was another person in Ministry robes.

Marie stalked towards him quietly watching as he reunited with his family. She overheard him explain that Dumbledore had asked him to go undercover and feed information to the Order. Nodding slightly to herself, she knew he was telling the truth. A recent report in the drop box corroborated his story.

As she neared the group she was met with Arthur standing in front of his son with his wand drawn ready to defend him. Marie cocked her head to the side and stared him down. She watched as his arm trembled.

"I have no quarrel with you Arthur," she said calmly. "We need to speak to Percy about what he's passed along thus far to cross check it with the other intel coming in."

"Lies!" Molly said putting herself between her son and the rest of the people in the hall. "You'll not take him! You'll leave my family alone, you hear me?"

"Molly!" Arthur cut her off. "Enough! Lady Stone I apologize. If Percy feels up to it, he'll of course give his cooperation."

Percy nodded and stepped forward sporting a bruise forming on his face and various scorch marks on his robes. Marie looked him over in concern and realized that he probably had been attack either at the Ministry or while he fled to Hogwarts.

"First I'd like him to be check by a Healer," Marie said waving over one of the many healers bustling around the Hall. "Once you've been cleared Miles will escort you to Dorcha Gaol and we'll figure things out. We're up to our eyeballs in intel spanning twenty years."

"I'd be happy to help Lady Stone," Percy said, sketching a painfully correct bow. "I offer you my assistance in sorting through the information as well."

Ron snorted at his brother, but Bill the eldest cuffed him on the back of his head. Ginny instantly stopped giggling seeing her family's disapproving looks and looked at the ground. Things had been changing in the Weasley family since the return of Lady Marie Stone. Arthur as Head of the Weasley family had used family magics to bring them to heel. Bill, the heir and Charlie the second eldest fully supported their father. The twins fell into line with the elder brothers, understanding that there was a time and a place for pranks and jokes. Their uncles had a few serious chats with them in the time that they had been back. Molly, Ginny, and Ron had been mutinous at first, but the Family magic forced their compliance. They often toed the line, but Arthur kept them firmly on the path that he was determined to follow. House Weasley would redeem itself and not embarrass itself again.

Marie gave a bow in response and inclined her head to the others. "Your aid would be much welcomed Percy," she said with a soft smile. "You've certainly grown since the last time that I saw you. I believe you were teething the last gathering that we were all present at."

Percy flushed and smiled at her kindly. His older brothers had told him all about Lady Stone and their uncles. He never forgot what she had done for them and always felt responsible for her disappearance. As a reaction to that horrific event, he built up walls and strictly followed the rules set out by those in authority. It was safer that way.

Bill stepped forward and bowed to her as well. "Lady Stone, I'd like to offer what assistance I can, but I'd have to clear it with my superiors first," he told her. His wife echoed his statement with a curtsey.

Charlie gave her an easy grin and bowed. "Auntie Marie," he said playfully, "Just point this old dragon tamer where you need him and I'll help any way that I can."

Marie chuckled at him. "You're hardly old Charlie! You're only four years older than I am!" she chastised. "However, if you could send word along to the reserves and put them on alert it would be helpful. I wouldn't put it past snake-face to make a try for them."

Charlie and Bill both nodded and smiled at the younger woman. They were still having a hard time reconciling this woman with the person that they knew as "auntie" Marie over twenty years ago. She spoke briefly with the Weasleys, maintaining a polite and respectful tone. She was openly friendly to the youngest children and painfully civil to the parents and youngest children.

Marie took her leave of the group and walked around surveying the Hall. Those present came to attention as she walked by, waiting for her to make her next move. She was glad that Dan Granger and the others present and training were able to keep the trouble makers at bay until they had arrived. There was minimal bloodshed, and everyone would make it home tonight.

Professor McGonagall came to stand beside her. "What do you need from us Marie?" she asked in a thick brogue.

"Professor, Headmistress," she amended, "we just need the people here ready. The wards need to be strengthened further. You and I both know that when he comes, there will be no telling how many he brings or even what species."

The Headmistress nodded. The children would be arriving in three days' time and classes would start on the following day. She needed to make sure that everything was secure and ready for when they got there. Another incident like this was could not happen.

"We'll be ready," she replied tersely.

Marie nodded. "How many more people or teams do you think you'll need here?" she asked. "We've got people in abundance at the Gaol to bulk up the rotations if you think there's a need for it."

"Aye, perhaps another dozen," McGonagall said surveying the hall. "Mr. Granger was efficient and effective. I think that with more people with his skill we'll be ready."

"You'll have what you need," Marie said turning and facing the woman who had taken her under her wing. "If there is anything else you know how to reach me."

Dan called out to her and she went over to where he was standing with Hermione and Viktor. The Bulgarian kept glancing down at the younger witch with a besotted look on his face, causing Marie to grin.

"Well girlie," Dan grinned tiredly. "When are you going to give us lowly mortals a show?"

Marie snorted, "We're all mortals here Dan. Just because we have magic doesn't mean we aren't human. We're not invincible."

Dan sobered and nodded to her. "I know love," he said squeezing his daughter to his side. "I meant no offense."

"I know, sometimes though I think that people forget we're all human regardless of our heritage or backgrounds," she replied. "As for your other question we'll have to take it outside and send for Miles and Brett."

"Already ahead of you," Miles said grinning at her. "Brett will be here in a half hour."

"Then I guess we should take it down to the Quidditch pitch," she replied with a cheeky smile. "You think that you can keep up with me old man?" she taunted Miles.

"You're on little witch," he said in reply.

Word spread and people began making their way down to the stands in large groups. The stands magically expanded and additional bleacher seating appeared around the towers.

Meanwhile Marie was touring the grounds check the progress. Fields and greenhouses had been planted and were on their way for a full harvest in the near future. In the distance sheep bleated and cows could be seen dotting the country side. Other domestic farm animals were also roaming enclosures that were carefully kept and watched by Hagrid and a number of other people.

There would be plenty of potions ingredients to use as well as food and rations for the people that now resided behind the protective wards. There was a similar plan and set up at the island of Dorcha Gaol. The nearby villages were there for the overflow of people that did not want to live in the black stone walls of the fortress there. The entire island was unplottable and untraceable. There were layers of ward after ward of each and every family there. They were all interwoven in such a way that they could never be dismantled, only added to and strengthened.

Marie made her way around Hagrid's hut and was greeted by Magorian, the leader of the centaur herd from deep within the Forbidden Forest. He bowed his head to her and thanked her and the Coven for their aid in cleansing the forest. He warned her of suspicious beings stalking the woods testing the strength of the wards. She thanked him and bowed deeply to him. Nodding his head, he turned and disappeared deep within the shadows of the looming trees.

Marie sent one of the nearby people checking the fences to send word to Headmistress McGonagall. She turned back and led the group back down towards the pitch. The crowds had swelled and the stands were nearly full. Apparently there would be a number of other sparring matches that would take place.

Marie divested herself of her blades and handed them off to Antonio to hold. He and the rest of the Zabinis had returned to Hogwarts when the alarm had been raised. They arrived after everything had been settled, but heard about the sparring match and agreed to stay to watch. Antonio had grinned at his son Blaise and told him to just sit back and enjoy the show.

Marie entered the ring erected in the sand and grinned at Miles. They were similarly dressed and armed. They only had their fists and wands for this, though Marie clearly had the upper hand with her additional powers. Miles however had the advantage of his size and experience. It would be an interesting match for everyone to see.

Marie bowed to him respectfully, a gesture he returned. They circled each other before the both moved. Their steps and jabs seemed like a choreographed dance with the speed and grace in which they both moved. They were both well trained and determined to win. Mile got a lucky jab in her side, but she swept his legs out from under him. Between flying fists and feet, spells were being fired off at blurring speeds.

Marie pushed him back, but was startled when another magical signature entered the ring, causing the crowd to call out in protest. Brett had joined in the fun now. She threw her hand out and he dodged the fireball she tossed at him. Miles looked stunned before she did just that, knocking him out. Brett dodged and kicked out, dropping Marie, who rolled to the side firing off a spell as she went, hitting him with a cutting hex on the leg.

They moved faster and pushed harder. Miles was re-envenerated by Brett and joined the fight again, wincing and breathing raggedly. All parties were tiring, but refused to stop. Marie took a nasty hex to her knee and decided that she had had enough. Lightning arced down from the sky sizzling near where Brett and Miles had been standing causing them to jump back and out of the ring. They lost because they had left the ring, thus ending the fight.

Marie sat hard on her butt, wincing and breathing heavily. Her body was covered in a sheen of sweat and blood. Brett and Miles looked worse for the wear.

"What the bloody Hell was that?" Brett shouted. "That's cheating!"

"No," she replied primly, "that's me winning by using every tool and advantage that I have. The enemy won't show mercy or be kind, therefore I cannot afford to either."

"Touché," Miles laughed, wincing while holding his side.

The crowd sat silent for a moment before there was thunderous cheers and applause. Many, who had not seen the point in the training that they were doing, now had a glimpse of why they would need it. There would be an increased number of people who wanted to learn to fight in the near future Marie mused.

Marcus and the others reached her side and grimaced seeing the extent of the injuries they had sustained.

"Love," Marcus said in exasperation, "you were just completely healed! I'm not going to be the one to tell your healers what happened today."

Marie pouted playfully, causing his eyes to focus on her full, pouty lips. He swallowed thickly and sighed. Gently, he scooped her up and stood with her cradled against his chest. His magic instantly wrapped around hers, soothing the aches and pains. He knew almost instantly there her knee and right side would need to be checked over by a healer. The rest was fairly superficial.

In long strides he carried her off of the pitch away from the cheers as the next match was set to take place. Marie laid her head on his shoulder and rested with her face near the crook of his neck. He felt a jolt of heat run through him as Madam Pomfrey drew near. She insisted that Marie be brought to the infirmary immediately along with Brett and Miles. She grumbled and muttered under her breath along the way.

"Love you've got to be careful," Marcus murmured to her. His warm breath fanned on her neck and chills ran down her spine. "I know that you can handle yourself. Seeing you fight is amazing, but as you said earlier we're all only human."

"I know," Marie whispered against his neck tiredly. "It was fun, but now I want to go home and take a bubble bath and then nap."

"Is that an invitation?" he teased softly.

"I look and feel like death warmed over, Marcus," she chided. "Not the ideal scenario for romance and seduction."

"I know little witch," he said in a concerned voice. "You'll take it easy for a bit right?"

"Of course Marcus," she murmured tiredly.

The rugged Quidditch player carried the injured witch up the steps into the castle. He followed the fretting Healer and gently placed Marie on a nearby bed. Miles and Brett stumbled in shortly after and climbed into nearby beds for the Mediwitch to check them over. Marcus pulled up a chair next to Marie's bed and waited patiently. Madam Pomfrey waved her wand and snapped off a series of healing spells and called a house elf to bring a few healing potions. Once her patients drank the vials, they were cleared to leave with strict orders to rest.

Marie sent a patronus to the others in the crowd letting them that she would be retiring for the rest of the day to Stone Manor. She told Marcus that if he wanted to stay and catch up with his friends that he should. She reminded him that they didn't know how long they would have with all of their loved ones before the war plunged them deeper into the darkness. When he looked reluctant, she told him that they would be spending tomorrow night together at Trinity. He grinned and nodded at her before walking her to the portkey clearance point. He gently pulled her to him and hugged her, kissing her brow and telling her to rest. Marie smiled up at him shyly and said that she's see him tomorrow.

They parted and Marie activated her portkey home. She was bundled off to her rooms by Narcissa who was appalled to see her so banged up. Serene and Elena had shown up to help her get in the bath and then changed into something comfortable to wear for the night. Many of her friends and allies would be staying the night to help where they could while she slept and recovered. The Malfoys would be staying down the hall from Marie's room off and on for the next few months to help Marie adjust.

Marie's friends tucked her into her bed and went down to direct people to their rooms if they didn't already know where they would be staying. Narcissa retired to her rooms later that night with her husband and sighed in contentment. It was the first time in nearly seventeen years that they had spent the day with young children. It brought back memories of their own son and all of the happiness that came with having a family. They were all tired and sore, but it was a happy bunch that drifted off to sleep that night.
