Accidents Happen
September 5th, Hogwarts
When Amy awoke, the first thing she thought was that she had both Potters today. Her second thought was that her alarm hasn't gone off. She looked down, and saw that it was 8:30. She hurriedly got dressed and by the time she left her room, it was 8:32. She ran down the stairs and tried to open the door. Then her mind went back to the first night. "You will be up and ready for breakfast at or before eight, if you are not up by then, you will be locked in until lessons." Snape had said, and she said only two words.
"Oh shit."
When it was 8:55 she heard a click as the door unlocked. As she went to open it, she found Snape on the other side. "Detention tonight Ms Bartlet." was all Snape said before leaving for his class. Sighing, Amy picked up her stuff, and ran out the door. As she neared History of Magic, Draco tapped her on the shoulder. She turned and saw him holding a glass of pumpkin juice, and a roll with a sausage in. "Thought you might want something." he said. She nodded her head and took the glass from Draco's hand, easily downing the whole glass. She then took the roll too, and started to eat. All the while, Draco was smirking.
"Thanks Draco."
"Anytime." He said, still smirking
"What are you smirking at?" She huffed, putting her hands on her hips.
"Out of all the people to be the first one to wake up late, I didn't think it would be you." As he ended, he got a playful slap, and he laughed before starting up a general conversation about the class.
As this was happening, both Lily and James were talking in the classroom. "What are going to do James? She didn't do anything but raise an eyebrow at you. You were only being nice"
"It would seem that to get her back we need to change tactic, or at least get her alone."
"Like detention?" Lily asked, and James nodded.
"Yes Lils, but we need a reason for it."
"Don't worry, we will make one up. Just in case, I've got a vial of trust potion in the back."
"Are you sure we should use that?" James asked, uncertain.
"Of course, it's the only way."
"Alright. I've got to go, see you at lunch lils." James said, and he walked out.
As the students walked in, Amy was still holding her sausage roll. When she looked at Lily though, she looked as though she had struck gold. She sat down and got her books out. She hadn't noticed Lily stand up, that is until she swiped the roll from off her desk. "Detention Ms Bartlet." She turned and smirked in victory, only to see Amy just look at her in boredom. Put off by her daughter's aloofness, she threw the roll in the bin, and began the lesson.
Draco was concerned as the exited the lesson. He needed her to be in the common room before nine if he wanted to be sure that the plan worked. If she was in detention, that would never happen. "So what are you going to do about her detention?" Amy looked at him, as if he had grown a second head.
"Well, I'm going to go to my detention with Snape." She said, then kept moving.
"And then ..." Draco prompted, tailing off at the end.
"And then I'm going to go to the common room and read." She said, walking into the library. "I don't really see that it is any of your business what I do with my detentions." Draco smirked again, before following her in. Seeing her pick up a book in the potions section, he walked over.
"You can't avoid them forever." Draco whispered, moving next to her.
"Well, I can try." she said, attention still focused on the book.
"You'll lose you know."
"I don't lose Draco." She said, looking up, then walked out. He looked at the book she was reading, and flipped to the marked page. And smirked again.
"No you don't Ms Bartlet. You certainly don't." He said, before walking out, looking forward to lunch.
Amy was walking down into the dungeons when she found Snape. "Professor" She said, and he turned to her. "I was wondering if I could practice brewing something." He looked at her.
"Very well, but I have a class now. You sit at the back and not say a word. What are you working on?"
"Just an advanced potion." Snape looked at her for a moment, then nodded.
"As you do not appear your potions book, you may use one of those in the advanced section of pre-owned books." Snape said, sneering as he said pre-owned. "Now come along, you are lucky you don't have a class now." He said, and she smiled, walking on behind.
When they entered the potions room, they found the sixth year class looking at her with interest. She ignored them, picking up a copy of Advanced potions making, and moved over to a spare cauldron at the back. "Today you will be working on the Euphoria Elixir. You have one hour. Begin." Was all he said, before he placed the instructions on the board and moved around the class. Snickering to herself as she saw Snape tear in to one of the Gryffindors in the room. She opened the book and found additional notes written in it. Frowning, she decided to follow the notes. As the class neared its end, Snape walked towards her to see her progress. She was happy at the moment, the potion was turning the correct colour, when Snape snatched the book from her. "Class bottle up and get out." He said. The students moved quickly, leaving him and Amy in the room. When the door closed he rounded on her. "What do you think you're doing?" He asked.
"Brewing a potion sir." Amy said, as if it was the most simple thing in the world.
"You did not tell me that you were brewing a sixth year potion with unchecked instructions. Do you know what would happen?" He said, pacing the spaces between the benches.
"No sir, the instructions were working well."
"But what if they weren't accurate. You could have killed us all!" He shouted, and Amy hung her head. Snape looked at her, then sighed. "Ms Bartlet if you want to brew a potion out of class then I'm sure we find some time to do it in." As he finished this, Amy looked up hopefully. "But you mustn't act like a Gryffindor by making this potion recklessly and on impulse again, understand?"
"Yes sir." She answered timidly.
"Good, now off you go, you have Defence now, then you are free all after lunch. I shall see you tonight Ms Bartlet." With that, he opened the door, and motioned her out.
After Defence with Potter, Draco managed to catch up with Amy. "Hi Amy." She turned to him. He saw a quick flash of something in her eyes as she turned, but it quickly disappeared.
"Hi Draco."
"So, how did the potion go?" Draco asked. Amy froze, and then turned to him.
"What potion?"
"The one you went to brew after the library." Amy looked at him, then sighed and started walking, with Draco close behind her.
"Snape caught me as I was finishing up. He says it was too Gryffindor." They didn't see Weasley and Harry come around the corner, and bumped into them.
"Owwwwww!" Harry whined, and Lily came around the corner.
"What's wrong?"
"She pushed me over mum." Harry said. Amy rolled her eyes, and Draco smirked.
"And so the great boy-who-lived, defeated by a girl pushing him onto the floor." Draco said, before they walked past them, but not before hearing Lily shout to them.
"Detention Ms Bartlet."
"Already got one." Amy shouted back, before running into the Great Hall for lunch.
As this was happening, James walked into the kitchens of Hogwarts. With him, he had the trust potion that Lily had kept in her office. He didn't want to do this, but Amy needed to trust them, and everything they did seemed to do nothing. Plus, Albus told him it was for the Greater Good that she was with her true family. He walked over to one of the elves. "Dippie, this is for Amy Bartlet's drink, she needs to drink it, but refuses to."
"Who says she needs to drinks it sir?" Dippie replied, wanting conformation.
"The Headmaster" He said simply, and Dippie nodded.
"Yes sir, Dippie shall makes sure Ms Bartlet drinks potion." With that, Dippie took the potion and walked away. James left, thinking to himself that he would soon get his daughter back.
As they sat down to lunch, Draco and Amy were starting to think of a way to get back at Potter. He may have been ineffectual in actually annoying them, but he needed to learn a lesson. As they sat down, Amy took a sip of Pumpkin juice, whilst reaching for some pork chops. They stopped to start eating, when Amy started feeling nauseous, and put her fork down. "You alright Amy?" Draco asked. He got is answer in the form of Amy vomiting onto her plate, before collapsing to the floor.
