AN: Heeeeey. :3 This my first fan fic, and I'm quite inexperienced at these kinds of things, so no making fun of me. I had no idea whether to make this a muti-chapter fic or leave it as a one-shot, but then I thought, what the hell. :P For any errors, I apologize. I'll appreciate reviews a lot, so come at me, bro

Standing Resistance

Chapter 2

As if he would let go of her now. Merlin snorted then let out a dark chuckle. After being denied the intimacy he deserved, after being rejected yet another chance by the woman he wanted to share that chance with, he can't help but think that it wasn't fair. He admitted that life never was fair; anything that happened to him wasn't fair. He shouldn't have expected this to be any different. It was foolish to have let his hopes up. He shouldn't have snapped, shouldn't have broken the peaceful misery of time slowly and painfully wearing his soul apart as he waits for destiny, because it would only cause insanity upon him. Destiny plays cruel games. But no more.

Foolish his ass. As if he'd ever give up.

What did he have to lose, anyway? What did he have left?

The man who was his best friend and the brother of his lost lover had not yet returned to the mortal world, taking his time as he rested on the shores of Avalon. What was he to do without his king? He possessed nothing else but his loyalty and the fire in his gut, only those that would matter in the long run.

Merlin strode through the streets of London with his head hanging low, appearing to be a shy man with a defeated slump of his shoulders. The expression that he hid said anything but. His eyes shone with a wicked determination and a small smirk tugging at his lips as he fished out his phone and pressed on a number, and as he held it against his ear, he waited in patience for the lazy buffoon he was calling to pick up.

"Hello?" answered a scruff voice on the other end of the line, clearly annoyed by the phone call.

"I see you've just woken up," Merlin chuckled.

He was met by a momentary silence, followed by a joyous yelp. "Merlin, mate! It's been a while, yeah?" the other person exclaimed, making Merlin wince at the volume. "Been a couple of months, right? I'm sorry, I didn't check the name of the caller, and it's been quite a night. I mean, it's only 5 in the afternoon! It's too early to be awake!"

Merlin grinned as he shoved his other hand in his pocket, turning to the entrance to a majestic building and pushing the glass doors open. The doorman nodded to his direction and the ladies who stood behind the front desk greeted him a good afternoon.

"Yeah, but can we skip the pleasantries for later? I have a favour to ask," he whispered as he entered the open doors of the large elevator, as if it had been waiting for him all this time. He pressed on to the top button by the elevator doors, and after they had closed, he started to ascend up in the ivory building.

The man on the other side of the call snickered. "You called me to ask for a favour, 'eh? Not even to ask how I am? I didn't know you cared so much, hon'," he replied, his voice dripping with sarcasm, but Merlin knew he meant well.

Rolling his eyes, he answered, "Yes, well, this is of utmost importance. Can you look up a person for me?"

Upon hearing the seriousness laced with his old friend's tone, he sobered in his playful mood. "Alright. So who's this person you're stalking now?"

Merlin bit his lip. "Morgana Pendragon."

AN: I know, I know, it's too short. But I can't help it! For me, not updating for around 3 months is like being dead, so I thought I should stop it short here. :D I'll be updating soon, maybe, and more angst will be on the way…
