Chapter 4: A Mother Found
Kagome let out a light sigh, as the breeze picked, rustling through the branches above. She was now walking around the woods, towards a farmhouse not too far from where they were camped maybe a good Seven hours away.
Normally they would have moved on to another location after the night she found Sophia, but the chances her group was still alive were large. There had been signs posted on the highway not too far, but She was now about to let a small girl like Sophia there by herself. Who knows what or who would pass by before her group would. Not to mention, what if her mother was no longer among the living? Would the group still take her, treat her right? Not many would nowadays.
So as soon as Sophia had gotten a hint that they might have still been alive she took a stand .To think that little Kitten she picked was such a Lioness in the making! She smiled fondly at the thought of the little girl and her little lionheart.
"Mr. Daryl..." Sophia had tears gathering in her eyes, and sniffled holding them back and wiping them from her face.
Her newest ward had turned to look at her with determination in her wide eyes, and stood her ground, "I need to find Mr. Daryl! He's has to be with the others! With my Mama!"
"Ms. Kagome! Can you help me find them!" Kagome looked down at the arrow in the little girl's hands, and then knelt down to be at her eye level.
"Of course, Koneko-chan," patting her head Sophia let a few stray tears fall before grinning and wiping at the rest
"Thank you!"
Now because of the pleas and cries of her little Koneko-chan, she was treading her way there, it seemed that the man her little kitten called "Mr. Daryl" had came from that direction and had made it back, if the trail was anything to go by.
She wasn't to far now, maybe an hour walk from the farm property, she supposed it was best to run if she wanted to make it back to her camp before dinner.
She took a breath before sprinting off, side stepping trees, jumping over the occasional rock or log, She grinned at the wind whipping against her face aggressively, but it could be worst it could be the winter wind numbing her face, so at least it was warm.
It didn't take her long to break throw the tree line and into the farm's property. She looked around and heard a shout of "We have a live one, down by the wheat field!"
Looking towards the source she saw an older man looking through a pair of binoculars on top of an RV. Not a few seconds later men seemed to swarm out of nowhere rushing down towards her armed. She scratched the back of her nervously, She now thinks she should have thought of a different way to approach this.
Within a few seconds the men had her surround, and she held up to show them she meant no harm, and opened her mouth to say that she meant no harm and that she wanted to know if Carol or a Mr. Daryl was here and if they have ever heard of a little blond girl by the name Sophia. However she promptly shut her mouth, she understood a good chunk of English but her speech was slow and still a rough.
Souta had been much more fluent in the language than she was. Cursing under her breath, she decided she'd just have to go for it when the man, he was older than her, maybe his early to mid thirties wearing what looked to be a police uniform. He looked to be the leader, since everyone was keeping an eye on him to see his reaction towards. Well everyone with the exception of a man with shaved head, who kept his eyes trained on her. The leader had decided to beat her to the punch by speaking first.
"Who are you? What do you want?"
"Kagome," she had pointed to herself before raising her hand back up, "Looking for Carol, Sophia's Mother," Kagome could feel her face get hot from the embarrassment when she heard her thickly accented English. The only way she'd communicated correctly was short and choppy sentences, and it frustrated her greatly.
However now was not the tim for that, she snapped back to attention and study their faces, some of them were happy and somewhat shocked, and one or two were weary of her.
"T-Dog, go get Carol," the leader spoke to the only black man in the group as he left and they had lowered their weapons slightly, still in a position to quickly get back in attack formation, but still better than in her face.
"Do you have her with you?" The leader asked again, it seemed the rest didn't trust themselves with her and let him do the talking.
"No," the man's mouth than was pressed in a hard line, "she is safe. At camp."
The man relaxed a tiny bit more at her answer when she heard someone runnIng towards them shouting, "Sophia!"
A woman came forward and Kagome confirmed her physical appearance matched what her Koneko told her.
"Mama has short hair, really short almost like ah boy," Sophia said, "Daddy didn't like her with long hair."
She paused before continuing, " It's color is like the arrow," she had pointed to the tip of her arrow a steely gray.
" She got really blue eyes, and she taller than you, I think you're about to her chin Miss Kagome."
"Carol?" Kagome questione, the woman nodded frantically looking around but not seeing her daughter
"Where is Sophia!" Carol had gotten close to her looking down at her and grasping her shoulders tight. Kagome saw the desperation on the woman's face.
"She is safe. At camp. I will bring her tomorrow, same time as now."
"Take me to her!" The woman was desperate and Kagome understood.
"No, I will bring tomorrow. needed to check if you were alive, make sure she would be safe."
The woman had tears of frustration in her eyes, and yelled at her "I want to see my daughter!"
The woman had pushed at her causing Kagome to step back, "You are slow, it will take long time to get there, Sophia needs rest and to pack. I will bring tomorrow, this time, this same place."
Kagome turned around when she heard a man shout at her she turned to she the man with shaved head yelling and taking aim at her,she moved to the side and ran off into the woods.
The shouts of "Shane! Stop!", "Come back!" and the woman crying.
She looked at the sun, their reaction to her bringing news of a child of their being alive was not the best. She really had to question the safety of Sophia if she brought her back here. Gruntingshe pumped her legs full of reiki to propel her faster to her camp, she had a lot of talk to the children about.
So yeah, review let me know what you think, I'll be revamping the last chapter posted to correct some stuff and clear it up.
