"So how are your studies going Austin?"

Austin looked up from his dinner plate and stared at his mother with his brown eyes. Family dinners at the Moon household were always a bit uncomfortable; with his overly involved and perky mother and his dull father, there just always seemed to be minimal conversation.

Austin moved his carrots around on his plate. "Alright I guess." It wasn't a complete lie, yet the word 'alright' might have been pushing it a little.

However, his mother seemed to be pleased with this answer. "Well that's good. I mean we sent you to a private school for a reason now didn't we Mike?" she questioned her husband with a smile.

Austin's mother put a lot of effort into education and the future. She would constantly talk about her dreams falling short and her unbelievably convenient business degree she had also managed to scrape up. Unfortunately for Austin, school just wasn't his thing. He sure as hell wasn't going to tell his mother that though.

Mr. Moon just raised his eyebrows, not taking his eyes off of the newspaper he was eyeing. "Well not really, but I mean if that's what you wanna go with then um," he started, finally removing his eyes from his paper and looked between the two, "sure."

Mrs. Moon playfully rolled her eyes and turned her attention back to Austin, giving him a nod and a knowing look. Austin just smiled uncomfortably and continued to eat his chicken. It's not that he doesn't get along with his parents, it's just that being an only child, he gets a lot of heat from his parents, who are the least bit sane.

"So Austin, I've been meaning to ask," Austin's father started. Austin lifted his head and rested it lightly in his left palm. "How's your music coming along?"

Austin's eyes lit up and a slight smile planted on his face. Out of all the people in the world, his dad would've been the last person to be interested in his music. "Really? You want to know?"

Mr. Moon finally put away his newspaper article and smiled at his son. "Of course I do! I've heard you a few times before. You're a very talented person."

Austin smiled at the admiration. "Wow, um thanks dad," he replied, "but it's actually going pretty well. Dez has been helping me with production and everything and I'm really trying to put something together. I'm not that great with words though. I mean all I really need to do is maybe find someone that can help me-"

"Speaking of finding someone," Mrs. Moon interrupted, "Austin, how's it going with that girl you've been chasing after?"

Austin looked a bit surprised at his mother's sudden outburst, but then srunched his eyebrows together in confusion. What girl? Of course his mind immediately went to Ally, but he didn't want to assume anything and completely embarrass himself.

For the hundreth time.

"Wait wait hold on," Austin's father interrupted and held up his right hand, "There's a girl?" Austin sunk in his seat and tried to cool down his flaming cheeks.

Mrs. Moon gave her husband an exasperated look. "Yes of course! Didn't I tell you about her?"

Mr. Moon frantically shook his head. "No Mimi, you certainly did not!"

Mimi excitedly clapped her hands together. "Well then you just have to know the story!" Austin groaned loudly and covered his face in embarrassment. His mother sharply turned her head in Austin's direction. "Austin please! I'm trying to tell a story here."

"Oh shit!"

Ally groaned as she began to wipe off the excess nail polish that had been applied to her ring finger. Trish spared a glance in her direction and chuckled under her breath. Ally glared at her amusement. "Remind me why we don't just go to a salon and get our nails done?"

Trish just rolled her eyes and continued to paint her nails. "Because I don't need some snarky women judging me on who terrible my nails and cuticles are."

"Ok," Ally started, "Well if you stop picking at your fingers, maybe we could get them professionally done instead of worrying about getting cheap nail polish on my carpet."

Trish waved her off. "Stop being so dramatic. I can't help it ok?" Ally rolled her eyes at Trish's ironic statement. "That's a nice color," Trish complimented.

Ally looked down at her nails and smiled at Trish's words. She had picked a lovely light blue that compliments her skin tone. "Thanks," she replied with a wide smile.

Trish returned the smile before sitting back, letting her nails dry. "Are you still writing lyrics?"

Ally pulled her lips into a tight line before reaching up to her desk to grab her journal. Trish, being her best friend, was the only one who knew about Ally's incredible writing capabilities. Even though she's never read any of them, she knew how much emotion and effort Ally put into each word.

It was so admirable.

"Yeah I guess, but they're more like poems since I don't have any music to back it up with," Ally replied while flipping through her journal. Trish just shook her head in understanding.

"You know, if you got rid of you got rid of your stage fright and got some professional help with music and production," Trish explained, "I think you could actually make it up in the big leagues," she said sincerely.

Ally smiled and gave Trish a tight smile. "You're the best."

Trish let go of her, letting out a few laughs. "Yeah I know," she said with a boastful tone. They sat there in silence for a few moments. "So, you never really told me how your date with Austin went."

Ally let out a small content sigh and tried to fight off a smile. "That's because there's nothing to say."

"Uh huh," Trish scoffed, "Totally. That's why you can't even stop smiling enough to try to lie to me."

Ally raised her hands up and surrendered. "Alright alright!" She placed all of her nail polish away, careful not to spill any. "It was great," she began, glancing at Trish's wide smile, "and he's a lot cuter than I remembered," she left off with a small giggle.

Trish cooed at Ally's sweet words. "How was he? I mean I've only talked to him over the phone, but he seems pretty decent I guess."

Ally gave a slight nod. "Yeah, he was really sweet," she said sheepishly, "It was really funny cause he tried to be totally calm and collected, but I could see the blush like rising up on his neck and everything," Ally replied with a small smile.

Trish nodded her head as her eyes sparkled at her best friend's happiness. "It sounds like you really like him," she stated.

Ally bit her lip and looked down at her lap. "I don't know," she admitted, "I mean I think I do, but that's how I felt about my last couple boyfriends," Ally responded. Trish adjusted herself on Ally's floor.

"That's the thing though. Austin isn't like those other losers. I mean let's be honest, your last boyfriend was a complete dud." Ally shuddered in memory.

"I mean yeah that's true, but I just don't want to fall too hard before I really even know who he is, you know?" Trish just nodded her head.

"Yeah, I do."

"It was the sweetest thing I've ever seen!" Austin held his head in his hands quite annoyed as his mother finished speaking. "I mean granted I thought he was absoutely mental, I mean who knew my little boy was so romantic?" she asked while rubbing his shoulder. Austin let out a long sigh and cast a glare to her direction.

"Now Austin, when are we going to meet this girl?" said Mike.

Austin whipped his head toward his father with wide eyes. "Never," he stated. There was absolutely no way that he would let his parents meet Ally. After all, he didn't really want to scare her off.

"Now you're being completely irrational. Why not?" Mrs. Moon added. Austin rolled his eyes at both of his parents. If he wanted to chase Ally away, he would've told her he had to move to Peru or dyed his hair green. Just definitely not this.

"Because you guys are completely insane," Austin admitted, "And I just went on a date with her yesterday. It's definitely not the right time for her to meet-"

"You went on a date with her?" Mimi exclaimed. Austin's eyes grew wide and he bit his lip nervously. He honestly had thought they already knew, seeing that he wasn't at home for a few hours after school.

"Uh no?"

"Son now is not the time to be smart here," Mrs. Moon warned him with a stern voice. Austin looked back and forth from his mother and his father. When did they get so involved in his love life?

Austin just let out a defeated sigh. "Alright. I met up with her yesterday after school and we just got some coffee and talked," he finished. He at his parents, both seem to be wanting more information. "That's all," he firmly stated.

"Really?" Mimi questioned while Austin cautiously nodded his head. "Well I just thought you stayed after or even went to Dez's house or something! I mean I didn't even realize you had the guts to ask a girl out on a date!"

Austin gave his mother a blank stare. "Yeah thanks for the confidence mommy."

Austin's father rolled his eyes. "And son, there's always more to it. I mean you haven't seen her since you apparently made a fool out of yourself trying to give her your number, which clever by the way," he complimented. Austin let out a small chuckle. Mimi put down her fork and focused her attention towards her son.

"He's right Austin. What'd you think of her?" she asked while pushing the long forgotten dinner away from her.

Austin raised his eyebrows at his parent's behavior. This is the reason he doesn't discuss personal things with his parents. Well who does? He glanced at his parent's concerning faces and shrugged his shoulders.

"I mean she was definitely prettier than I remembered," he started, resulting in a squeal from his mother. Austin bashfully looked down and pushed his seat away from the table. "Alright I think I'm just gonna go to bed now," Austin said.

"Austin wait!" his mother exclaimed. He groaned and swiftly turned around on his heel, silently asking what she wanted. He couldn't wait to bury his head into his pillow and forget that conversation ever happened. His mother, however, just smiled. "What's her name?" A small smile slowly formed on Austin's face.

"Ally," he said in a small voice.

His parents both smiled and went back to cleaning up the dinner table as he bolted up the stair and shut his door.

Yeah that dinner was way past uncomfortable.
