A smile formed on Grace's face as she woke to her 7:30 am alarm the next morning. She jumped up and took a shower, and put on a yellow dress with white ovals shadowed with grey.*She put in her contacts again and put on makeup that was not too intricate, but not what anyone would call simple. She pinned her hair back with bobby pins so that the blonde waves would not cover her face. She took a glance at the clock, noting that she still had an hour before the boys were supposed to arrive.
She began to pack up her makeup stuff, in case she would need it for the day and the video that was planned. She couldn't help but grin as she thought about the bet that she had won the night before. Within 15 minutes, she was able to get all of her makeup tools and things into her makeup carrying case and ready to go. She made sure her wallet was actually in her purse this time when she noticed something odd. A CD was inside her bag? She didn't remember putting one in there.
She pulled it out to see a black case with a simple wolf-like logo on it and the word "Skyhill" printed on the front. Grace scoffed in disbelief. She couldn't actually believe that Dan had managed to somehow sneak it into the bag without her noticing. She took the CD and put it in the player that she had on a shelf and let it run. She sang along to most of the songs (or, as much as she knew, anyways) as she checked her phone.
"Hey, I'm ready, so if you just wanna text me when you get here," she typed a message and sent it to Danny, and saw that it was seen almost immediately. The bubble that indicated that he was typing popped up.
"We should be there in about 15 mins :)" he replied. Grace grinned as she tidied up the small mess in living room, something she had not done in the past couple of days due to her absence from her home. She floated around the room to the calm beat of the music as she straightened things on the shelf and placed items in drawers. Within 10 minutes, the room was spotless. She was pleased at her work and sat down to relax before Dan and Barry got there. She decided to do a little research, so she went on instagram and looked up "Game Grumps."
She found what seemed to be their official page and chuckled as she scrolled through the pictures. She even stopped the CD to watch a couple of the videos. She was giggling at Arin's goofy videos and she couldn't even describe the laughter that took over her as she watched each of their instagram takeovers.
Suddenly, though, her doorbell rang. She grabbed all her things and ran to the door, opening it to find a grinning Dan, who greeted her and pulled her into a hug. "I told you that you could just text me and I would come out," Grace chuckled as she pushed away from him, her big eyes shining up at the tall man.
He rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "Heh, yeah, I know," he laughed.
"Then why did you come to the door?" the blonde inquired, raising an eyebrow at him.
"Oh, yeah, I kinda really have to pee. Is it okay if I use your bathroom?" he admitted, a light blush falling over his tan complexion.
"Sure, Dan," Grace stepped aside to allow him to step aside, and he ran to the same bathroom that he had used the day before. She looked in the mirror that sat above the fireplace to make sure that her hair was still in place. When he came back out after a couple of minutes, she mentioned, "I've been listening to the Skyhill album all morning."
"Oh, you found it?" Dan asked, a smile spreading across his face.
"Yeah," she answered as they walked out the door and she locked it, "I'm very impressed that you managed to sneak it into my bag without me knowing. Oh, and I got backseat!"
Danny was about to object when Grace sprinted to the car and opened the back door and buckled herself in and closed the door. He sighed in defeat as he took shotgun and he heard his friend chortling in the back. "Gotta be quicker than that, Dan!" she sneered in a teasing tone, before looking in the rearview mirror to make eye contact with Barry. "Hi, Bar!"
"Howdy, Grace!" the driver replied as he pulled out of the driveway and began their journey to the Grump household. When they arrived, Grace was immediately embraced by Arin and squeezed rather tightly.
"Hi, Gracie!" he exclaimed as he nearly suffocated her.
"Ungghh, hi, Arin," she coughed, "you're, unngh, choking me." He released her and she took a deep breath. "Where's Suzy?"
Almost as if on cue, the dark-headed woman floated into the room with a smile on her face. "Hey, Grace! You and I are gonna be filming in the other room while the boys get busy in the Grump Room."
"Sounds good!" responded the blonde, "I brought my makeup stuff as well."
"Sweet!" Suzy cried giddily before grabbing Grace's wrist and pulling her into the other room. "So Arin and I kinda decided that you needed a username of your own that we could refer to you by, so we came up with one for you, but you don't have to use it if you don't like it." The hostess was grinning from ear to ear.
"Okay, let's hear it," Grace said, sitting down on the bed.
"We thought that this would work perfectly: 'AmazingGraceH' or something like that. What do you think?"
A smile lit up the older girl's face. "That sounds awesome. I love it!"
"We already have all the handles and the emails for it set up. AmazingGraceH and AmazingGraceH as your Twitter handle, as well as instagram and stuff like that, if that's good with you?"
"Wonderful!" Grace exclaimed. They began setting up for the blindfold makeup video and got everything ready.
"Hey, YouTube! It's Mortemer, and today I'm here with my new beautiful friend and assistant, Grace Housley, or AmazingGraceH on Twitter. We made a bet the other night, and I lost, so she gets to do my makeup blindfolded. Are you ready, Gracie?"
Grace nodded and began her venture. She placed the blindfold on her head and carefully searched out the different tools and cosmetics. With a little difficulty, and through a lot of laughter and talking, Grace completed Suzy's makeup in a little more than ten minutes. "Okay, I think I'm done!" the blonde said, reaching for the knot of the blindfold. Her dark-headed friend assisted her in taking it off. Grace observed her finished product and laughed.
Suzy's eyes were a bit asymmetrical, but overall she had done a pretty great job. She handed the girl a mirror so she could see herself. "Wow," Suzy gasped, "I could almost wear this makeup out! …All but the eyes, of course, haha!" Suzy went on to explain to her audience that Grace would be working on the channel [and maybe collaborating with the Grumps] pretty much full time in the future and she urged everyone to follow her on twitter. She finished off with "I hope you guys really enjoyed our blindfold makeup tag! Don't forget to subscribe! We have some awesome things coming up for you guys, so stick around for that! We'll see you again real soon, and thanks for watching everyone! Bye!" Both girls waved to the camera before Suzy got up to shut it off.
"Was that okay?" Grace asked, wanting to know if the video had been too long.
"That was actually great! I don't think we'll need to edit that one, we can kinda just throw it up unedited because it's a good amount of time. I can't wait until they get to see you!" Suzy stomach growled. "Oh, but right now, I think it's time for some lunch. You hungry?" Grace nodded and followed her friend into the kitchen. "Have you ever had a White Chocolate Peanut Butter sandwich?" the younger woman asked, pulling plates and cups out of cabinets.
"No, but Dan talked me into buying some white chocolate peanut butter because, according to him, it's 'fucking awesome' and he said that I just had to try it," Grace used air quotes to show exactly what Danny had said. Suzy laughed and pulled out the peanut butter and bread and made her a sandwich and poured some milk.
"Try it. You'll understand where he's coming from," she giggled as she handed the older girl the plate. As they sat down at the table to eat, Barry, Arin and Dan all walked in. "Are you guys taking a break?" Suzy asked, standing up to kiss her husband lightly on the lips.
"Yeah, we just wanted to grab a quick snack or something before doing some more grumping. Ross should be here in a couple of hours; apparently Holly was worried about Birb or something so he wanted to make sure everything was okay. He'll be a little later than we expected, but we can roll with it. What's on the menu, Grace?" Arin motioned towards the sandwich that Grace was holding in her hands.
"White chocolate peanut butter," she answered, glancing up at Dan for a moment, before grinning down at the bread.
"Dude!" Dan exclaimed, sliding into the seat across from her, "I have to watch your first bite reaction… no… even better, I have to get it on film." He pulled out his phone and fumbled around for a moment before holding it up to record Grace. "Okay, you can bite now."
"Uh, okay…" she chuckled nervously before pulling the sandwich to her lips and opening her mouth. She slowly took a bite out of it and chewed it, trying to relish the flavor. "Oohhh, my God!" she smacked with a muffled mouthful. Her eyes were wide, she felt every good synapse going off in her brain. Was this what drugs felt like? "This is… oh my god, I need more," she took an even bigger bite and everyone laughed. Dan set his phone down and smiled.
The others made their own sandwiches and sat down around the table. They made light conversation about what all they had been doing that day and filling in Grace about Ross and Holly's rescue pigeon named Birb and many other things. Then, Arin looked up at the blonde girl and asked, "Oh, hey, Grace, we want to do an announcement video to make you an official part of the grump family. I know that you're going to be in Suzy's makeup tag thing, but we'd like to put you in a Game Grump video as well, since you'll probably be helping out on that channel a little as well, if you don't mind."
"Oh," the girl responded, after swallowing her sip of milk, "Uhm, sure, that sounds fine."
"Alright, great, we'll film it in the Grump Room after everyone finishes their lunch," he retorted before munching on some baby carrots. She gave a smile and quick nod. She really was nervous, though. What if she wasn't received well?
After eating, they filmed a sketch that involved Barry being overwhelmed, Suzy being lonely, and Ross being annoying and needing to be outweighed by someone significantly less obnoxious. Grace was cued to burst into the room, wearing a makeshift cape, a mask of some sort, and fairy wings over the cape. "NEVER FEAR, AMAZING GRACE IS HERE!" She declared.
"Whaaaa?" everyone acted confused.
"I'm here to help Suzy out on her channel and help with editing across all the channels, and maybe even appear on the game grumps channel every once in a rare blue moon!"
"Whooooahh."
The video went great and Barry said he would have it edited and uploaded by that night. But they could all tell that Grace was still a little nervous. "What's the matter?" Arin asked, placing a hand lightly on her shoulder, trying to be comforting.
"I just… I'm afraid they won't like me is all," Grace admitted after a minute or two of silence.
"They're gonna love you," Dan smiled, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. The others joined in the embrace, forming a group hug.
"They're gonna love you because we love you. And anyone who doesn't take kindly to you can fuck themselves right in the peepee," Arin said, his face straight. Everyone burst into laughter.
The hug ended and everyone got back to doing things that were actually productive. Suzy showed Grace the basic routine around the Grump House, which Grace caught onto easily. The video went up that night, and she was pretty widely well-received on both Suzy's and the Grumps' channels. This gave her some relief as she quickly fell into place in the Grump family.
A little over a month later, it was time for Halloween, which was one of Suzy's favorite times of year. Grace hadn't ever really celebrated Halloween, so she didn't see what the big deal was, but apparently there was a huge YouTuber party that they were expected to attend – dressed up for a costume contest, no less.
Arin and Suzy were planning on going as Jack Skellington and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Grace had no idea what she could go as. But Suzy seemed to know exactly which direction to go. "You should go as Princess Peach, and have Barry and Dan be Mario and Luigi!" she had exclaimed to the blonde one day in the kitchen.
"I… I dunno. Will Barry and Dan even go for that?" Grace replied.
"Will Barry and Dan go for what?" Dan's voice surprised her as he and Arin stormed the kitchen in search of snacks.
Her face was red. "F-for dressing up like Mario and Luigi for Halloween. I'd be Princess Peach. We could all… uh… go to the party together as friends?"
"Sounds good to me," Dan replied casually before stuffing an oreo in his mouth. Suzy squealed and promised she'd get on the costume right away.
On Halloween, she'd had Grace stay over the whole day, despite that it was a Saturday and they didn't grump on the weekends. She made her put on the dress and crown and she did her hair and make-up swearing to make Grace look like she'd just walked out of Shigeru Miyamoto's dreams. And when it was all said and done, Gracie really did look like Princess Peach had just walked out of the game and into reality. Suzy made the girl slip into some white gloves and handed her a matching parasol and handed her a tiny Toad plushie.
Dan and Barry got to the Grump house around 5:30pm. They were properly dressed in their attire, Barry as Mario and Dan as Luigi. They both immediately went to the kitchen to snag some candy from the Trick-or-treat bowl. "DON'T!" Suzy Yelled, pointing a long black fingernail at the end of a blue finger at them before they could even get their hands in the bowl, "That is for children ages 18 and under tonight who ring our doorbell and say 'Trick or treat' and not for you two. I'm putting Gracie in charge of handing out candy while I finish getting ready and help Arin.
Grace emerged from around the corner and audible gasps escaped the two men's lips. She smiled and looked up at them, her green eyes shining bright as Suzy retreated to finish up her own makeup. "You guys look good!" the blonde giggled, pulling at one of Barry's overall straps.
"Hey, hey, hey!" Barry playfully swatted her hand away. "You look fucking incredible, too!"
"Like you stepped out of the game," Danny added, "Except your eyes are a different color, but damn you look good."
Her face reddened at the complements and she quietly took the bowl from the table, so as not to let the boys sneak any candy while she wasn't looking. The doorbell rang suddenly, and she knew it was time to start giving out treats.
She went to the door and greeted Captain America, a witch, a zombie, and Batman. "Trick or treat!" They yelled. Grace gave a broad smiled and sprinkled different fun-sized candy bars into their buckets and bags. They thanked her and she went back inside, where Dan was standing behind her.
"Oh!" she gasped, "I didn't know you were standing there."
"I just wanted to see what all the kids were wearing," he laughed. Barry peeked his head around the corner and nodded in agreement.
As if on cue, the doorbell rang again, and the three of them rushed to the door and opened it, this time to a Pirate, Harry Potter, a Dragon, a Unicorn, and Princess Leia. "Trick or treat!" they sang in unison. Grace placed candy into each of their bags, and the little girl dressed like Princess Leia looked up at her and whispered, "Are you the real Princess Peach?"
Grace paused for a moment before leaning down to the small girl, winking, and lightly saying "Peach's got it!" The little girl giggled and ran down the sidewalk to join her friends, who were already looking over their take for the night as they made their way down the street.
Grace and the boys went to the door repeatedly and soon there were accusations that this house was where "The Real Princess lived" and Grace was very thankful that she had convinced Suzy to buy an overstock of candy.
At around 9:00, the Grump house closed up shop, turning off the porch lights to let Trick-or-treaters know that they were no longer going to be giving out candy.
Arin and Suzy looked phenomenal. Holly and Ross, who were some video game couple combo that Grace didn't know, looked amazing as well. They all piled up into the cars and drove over to the YouTube Space for the huge party.
The party was already wild by the time they got there, and despite Grace's best efforts to use the buddy system, she lost everyone immediately. So she decided to grab some non-alcoholic punch and have a seat at one of the nicely decorated tables. She enjoyed watching others dance and have a good time, despite that she didn't necessarily know any of them.
All of a sudden, a dark headed man sat down next to her, sporting a pink mustache and candyman-esque attire. "I believe I know you from somewhere," he said, a smile beneath the cotton-candy colored false facial hair.
Grace gave him a confused look. "I'm sorry, I… we've uh… never met before," she tried to deter the conversation. She was creeped out, to say the least.
"I watch you," he smiled, his eyes wide. This caused Grace to look horrified. "On YouTube! On YouTube!" he interjected, correcting himself before a deadly misunderstanding happened. "You're Grace, right? You work with the Grumps now."
"Oh, yeah," she said nervously, still not really knowing what to think about this guy.
"I'm a good friend of theirs. My name's Mark."
She began to remember. Mark… Mark… Marki… Markihammer? No, that wasn't it. It was some kind of tool, though, right? Markidriver? No… Markip… Markipl… Markiplier!
"Markiplier?!" Grace exclaimed.
He nodded. "A pleasure to meet you, Princess Peach."
Grace shook his hand and immediately began to smile. She talked about how other than the Grump videos that she edits and the videos she does for Suzy, he and Holly Conrad are the only channels that have made it onto her subscription list.
"Well I feel honored!" he smiled.
They talked about life and such and ended up opening up way more to each other than they meant to initially, talking about parents and pasts and such. They got into a really deep conversation about how the past wasn't to be forgotten, because it shaped who they are now, but they couldn't let it hold them back.
"I see you've met Mark!" Dan came around and placed a hand on her shoulder, Barry following behind him.
"So you're not a lone Peach, you're a trio!" Mark exclaimed before greeting the two men.
"We should dance," Dan said, pulling Grace up.
"Only if Barry and Mark dance with us," she responded.
"I will fucking own the dance floor, Grace," Mark declared, leading the way. Dan grabbed Grace's hand and followed, and Grace grabbed Barry by the arm and dragged him out to the dance floor where they all danced together.
Mark and Barry pretended to have a dance off as the beat of the song was quick and jumpy. But the song soon ended and was replaced by something slow. Grace was about to retreat from the "couples only" dance floor when Mark pulled her in. "Let's dance for a second, just as friends. I haven't slow-danced since… high school? Geez, this is a throwback," he chuckled.
She smiled and swayed along with the music, and as Mark went to twirl her, she was taken into someone else's arms. Barry caught her up and began to dance with her. "'Sup," Barry said.
"Hi, Bar," she laughed, trying to not step on his toes as he tried to do the same for her. His mustache began to peel off in the middle of their dance, so Grace used her hand to press it back onto his face, only causing them to break into fits of giggles while on the dance floor. Barry went to twirl her for her second time, and again she ended up in different arms.
Dan looked down at her with a huge smile. His mustache had been discarded earlier in the night. "Hey, Gracie," he whispered, as if speaking would shatter the moment.
"Hi," she sighed, placing her head against his chest as they moved back and forth to the slow tempo of the music.
"Are you having fun?" he asked.
"Yeah. This party is great," she answered.
"Oh, I meant… uh… nevermind," he mumbled, but she quickly demanded to know what he had originally been asking. "I was asking if you were having fun… being with us. Being a part of the Game Grump family. Is everything alright? Are the attacks okay? Are you having a good time? Are we okay for you?"
"You guys are phenomenal," she answered, patting the side of Dan's face gently.
"You'll let us know, right? If something happens?"
The blonde girl nodded as the song ended and they both went to find the rest of their crew. They partied together for the rest of the night and had a ton of fun. They said goodbye to Mark and went home, where everyone crashed at the Grump house because it was so late. Grace was glad to be in a place… a family… like this. Especially one where she could wake up in the morning and be with the people she loved and who loved her… as well as the man that she had a huge crush on.
