For the daughter of the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz, it was strange of Silvia Tin to be so emotional. People like her father were just bodies made of scrap metal, and they didn't have hearts. Silvia was scared of the day that she would rust up, and wake up forgetting that she had any feelings at all. "It's all for the sake of your fairytale!" Headmaster Grimm had said on Storyentation day, but Silvia had yet to believe it.

Silvia never wanted to forget her emotions. If I did, she thought, would I forget all of my friends? She went over the list in her head. Ruby, Courage, Scarlet, Haymond, and Abigale would meet her in her fairytale. Every Wizard of Oz story needed a Dorothy, a lion, a scarecrow, and a wizard. But one person that wouldn't be there would be Diego Boots.

Silvia had a huge crush on Diego, the son of Puss in Boots, even though dating someone that wasn't in your fairytale was against school policy. But, Silvia was planning, and she found out that dancing with them at a school celebration, let's say Thronecoming, wasn't on the list of rules. She imagined sweeping across the floor in an elegant gown, Diego beside her...

The tin girl was too busy daydreaming to notice Haymond Crow, son of the Scarecrow from her same story, poking her in the shoulder.

"Silvia? Silvia. Earth to Silvia!" he said.

"Oh, sorry." Silvia blushed, pulling a lock of stick-straight silver hair out of her face. "Fantasizing again."

"You'll have all the time in Ever After to fantasize when Blondie fires you for being late again." Haymond said seriously.

"Oh, godmother! Again?!" Silvia shouted, jumping up. Her mind was back down to earth when she checked the clock. "Oh, no." she sighed, and practically ran out the door. Silvia was an assistant on Blondie Lockes' MirrorCast "Hello, Ever After", and this was the third time she had been late this week.

"This is not just right for the show." Blondie huffed once Silvia had pleaded her case. "Well, get to work! Wasn't there something you wanted to tell me?"

Silvia instantly remembered her plan. "Yes," she smiled. "In preparation for Thronecoming, I thought we should ask the students on their thoughts. You know, what outfit they're wearing, what friends they're bringing, who their date is..." Silvia emphasized the last part. This was going to be her subtle way of asking Diego if he had a date or not.

"That's such a great idea!" Blondie smiled. "I'll tell you what, since this was your idea, you can broadcast it! I'll play camera girl for the day."

Silvia was so excited. "Yeah!" she cheered, pumping a fist in the air. "Let's start!"

The crew wandered around the school, with Silvia way ahead of them. She was determined to find Diego. Soon, she was so far ahead, they couldn't catch up with her. Silvia was peering into every room, hoping to see her crush.

Silvia stopped and glanced into the conference room. Headmaster Grimm was seated, seemingly having an argument with a cloaked woman in front of him. Silvia immediately recognized her as Paris Gypsy's mother. Why is she here? She thought, but quickly passed by when she saw orange hair fluttering by.

"C'mon, guys!" she shouted. The crew finally caught up to her, puffing and panting. When they turned the corner, instead of seeing Diego, they saw Scarlet and Haymond Crow, the real culprits.

"And here's our first subjects of interview, the Crow siblings!" Silvia feigned excitement to save herself from embarrassment. "What are your plans for Thronecoming, you two?"

"I'm going free of date," Scarlet said proudly. "So if you're looking for a date, you know who not to ask."

After the camera shut off, Haymond walked over to Silvia.

"Hey, mind if I tag along?" he asked.

"Sure, why not?" Silvia smiled.

The crew had interviewed 9 people, and still, there was no sign of Diego. Silvia was thinking about giving up, when a blushing Ginger Cookie hurried by, followed by the guy himself.

"And here's our final interviewee, Diego Boots!" Silvia said, stepping in between her crush and the camera. She had found him, now she wasn't letting him leave until she asked the question. "We were wondering, what are your thoughts on Thronecoming? Have a date yet?"

"Well, she kind of just ran by, and I have to catch up with her. Bye!" Diego dashed off, leaving Silvia to stand there in the dust.

"Well, that'll be it for this portion of the show. This has been Silvia Tin, signing off." Silvia barely got the words out of her mouth. It felt as if someone had shoved a croquet hedgehog down her throat. Diego had not only a date, but presumably a girlfriend, too. As soon as the cameras shut off, she ran as fast as she could through the hallway, trying to hold off the crying until she was out of sight.

Silvia finally nestled down in a corner outside of the dormitory entrance. She would have gone straight back to her room, but she was certain that Courage LeOnne, her roommate, would be there, and she didn't feel like answering questions. She hid her face in her arms and let the tears flow. I wish I was tin right now, maybe my tears would rust me and I'd forget this whole thing, she thought.

Suddenly, Silvia felt a gentle tap on her shoulder. She looked up into the face of Haymond. "What?" she said, wiping the tears off her face.

"I'm sorry." he sighed. "I think I was the only one that got the hint that... never mind. Point is, things happen. I feel bad."

Silvia let her friend pull her up and hug her. It felt good that someone cared, that someone finally knew her secret crush.

"I can sympathize." he said once they had pulled away. Silvia gave him a puzzled look. "Well," he sighed, looking down at the floor. "I kind of know how it feels to have a crush not notice you, not feel the same way."

Silvia's heart skipped a beat as she understood what he was saying. He, he likes me? She thought. Instead of shock, her expression was a smile. "Sorry," she whispered.

"Well, there's still more to record." Haymond said. "You should probably get back to Blondie. Just say it was something he said, sparked a sad memory. That's a believable excuse for bawling like the Fountain of Youth."

Silvia laughed. "Okay then." she smiled. "See you around."

Even for a while after the tear session, the tin girl still had excitement bubbling in her stomach. All that time chasing her crush, and she had someone right there, someone who felt the same way, except about her. After school, she was still giddy. It was obvious Courage noticed.

"What's the hulla baloo?" the daughter of the Cowardly Lion asked.

"I think I have a date for Thronecoming." Silvia sighed happily.

"Oh, who?" Courage said, leaning in. "Did you get that Diego Boots kid to notice you?"

"No," Silvia said mysteriously, rolling over on her bed. Her voice dropped to a whisper. "It's someone from our story, though."

Courage's eyes became as big as the Little Teapot. "Haymond?" she guessed.

Silvia gave her a face. "No, Munchie Littleton, that son of the Lollipop Kid. Of course Haymond. Do you know any other boys from this fairytale?"

After a lot of discussing, it was finally time for bed. As Silvia curled up under her silver covers, she felt the happiness surge inside her again. In her mind, she took back the wish to be tin. It was going to be a long time until her story started, and for now, she was going to cherish her feelings, especially this one. She never wanted to let it go.
