Hey again! I'm now posting chapter 11, I figure I should have like six or seven chapters to go before I'm done. So... I do not own the Hunger Games or the song down in the valley. Enjoy! :~)
Before: I looked down to see two smiling faces.
Now: "Hey seven." I called out. "Googbye twelve." replied the male tribute. " Why leaving already?" " Very funny twelve, too bad no one will remember you." sneered the female. "What makes you say that?" " Come on you'd be the third one to die. You're weak. no one remembers weak tributes." "I think you have it wrong." I whipped my head around to see the person who spoke. No one was there though. The tributes from seven looked confused too. The boy raised his bow. "Show yourself!" he boomed. "You'll have to find me on your own." The voice seemed to be getting farther away. The boy went off to find the tribute, which left me to deal with the girl. While she wasn't paying attention I lunged to a nearby tree branch. I stilled myself and listened. The girl either didn't notice or didn't care that I was gone. I could hear the boy coming back so I slinked closer to the shadows. "Hey she's gone!" "What?! But I was watching her!" " Obviously not very well otherwise you would have killed her!" " I was worried about the other tribute. I thought they might come after me." "What's your knife for then?!"
Are they having a quarrel? They sound just like a married couple, I almost laughed at that. They are pobably a couple after all. These games are sick having brothers and sisters and boyfriend and girlfriend fight. Those sick, twisted bas- "Ahhh!" I nearly lost my balance hearing that scream. "Let's go!" For once the from seven agreed on something, and ran in the direction of the scream. I waited a minute, but didn't hear anything not even a cannon. I let out a breath of relief and slowly climbed down the tree. I need to get out, I thought. It's not safe here. I let out a snort, who am I kidding it's not safe anywhere.
I started walking deeper into the forest looking for another suitable tree and some game. I kept walking, but apart from my footsteps the forest was strangly quiet. No sign of animals or even birds. Are there only tributes here? I wondered about this, but couldn't stop to think about it much longer. Soon I was out of water and started looking for signs of it. I realised how stupid I was for going farther in the woods, because they would want us to keep going back tot the cornucopia for food and water. Which means I'll have to confront the careers, great. As I plopped down on a log I groaned. I have atleast been walking for two hours and from that long run yesterday... I estimate it will take me four hours to get back. That means a very long walk with no water and then a fight with the careers. I really should have stayed closer to the center of the arena. I picked myself up and started heading back, to the copia. I was almost going insane after half an hour of silence. I just felt like I was all alone in the world with nothing. It was like everything was in slow motion. Heck it even started to feel that way. Why not just break the silence myself.
Down in the valley
the valley so low-ow
hang your head over
hear the wind blow-ow
Hear the wind blow
yes hear the wind blow-ow
Hang your head over
hear the wind blow
Roses love sunshine
Violets love dew
Angels in heaven
Know I love you
Know I love you dear
Yes know I love you-ou
Angels in heaven
Know I love you
I finished the song and kept going. I felt less lonesome after singing a song from home. *Crack!* I stopped to listen, but nothing else happened. *Creak!* I turned around taking my axes out of my belt. Nothing. Just... trees? " Huh? But I heard..."
Maybe I am going insane. I turned back around and started walking, both axes still in my hands. *SLAM!* I whipped around and threw. My axe went through the air and into... a tree. Really?! It was only a tree falling. *Sigh.* So not cool. I grabbed my axe when a tree in front of me fell.
"Ahhh!" I took a deep breath and calmed down. Stumbling over the fallen log I speed walked away. A log a few yards away from me fell, then another on the other side of me. I started to jog while continuous trees fell. Soon I was in an all out run, dodging, and jumping trees. I passed district seven's tributes who were sitting on the ground. "Twelve!" they shouted. I heard the clang as the boy drew his arrow. *Creak!* A tree was slowly falling down a few yards in front of me. I slid underneath it as the arrow hit the trunk. I kept running until the tree line thinned and I could see the desert ahead of me. "AHHH!" "NOOO!" I could hear the screams behind me as I came closer to the desert. As soon as I hit the desert line, it was like I passed through a barrier. No trees could even fall over the line. It was strangly unnatural.
Taking one last lookbehind me took my breath away. That beautiful, lush, green forest looked like it had been trampled in a stampede. Not one tree was left standing. Turning aroung I started gazing at my new surroundings. I noticed two things right away. 1. The sun is a hot, blazing, and pink. Very... very odd. And 2. If I didn't have a chance of finding water in the forest, I doubt I'll find any here. I walked among the sand and the dust until I came upon some rocks. Seeking shelter under one I found a collection of cacti. I unsheathed my knife and cut off one of its fruits.
Sucking on the delicious flower made me notice that it and the leaves were full. They were practically bursting with water! I jumped up and looked over the cacti to see a pool of water. "Yes!" "Yes." "Yes." Whoops. I guess I should have been quieter, but how was I supposed to know that there was an echo. Oh well. My face sank into the cool water gulping down, the thirst quenching beverage. Before I knew it, it was dark and I lifted my face from the water. Wasn't it just daytime five minutes ago? *BOOM!*
*B-BOOM!* Wow three cannons just went off. And faces lit up the sky. The girl from district five died the first day as well as the district eight girl. Today both district seven tributes were dead and me. Wiat what?! I looked at the sky again to catch my fading picture.
