Author's Note: This section will be basically a repeat of Caitlyn's view of these events but though Scipio's perspective. If you do not want to read this, you can skip it by looking for the next line break.
Scipio looked up at the morning sun and adjusted to his surroundings. He quickly noted the buildings that he would need to protect and destroy were located on a gigantic bridge and the shopkeeper was at the end of the bridge. He then noticed arcane symbols beginning to be written on the tile flooring a couple feet away from him. He realized that someone else was being summoned and wondered if it was Caitlyn.
After a couple of seconds, an elegant lady dressed in purple clothes with a sniper rifle exactly like the one he found in the tree appeared. It had only been a few years ago that his only goal was to torment Caitlyn but that had begun to change. He was amazed by her dedication to hunt him down and her keen skills that nearly allowed her to succeed more than once.
Scipio gave her little smile and asked, "What's up Cait or should I call you cupcake?" He then turned his attention to the man at the counter and said, "I don't know what I need so just give me something you think I need."
Caitlyn showed a sign of surprise and questioned, "How do you know so much about me?"
Scipio collected his Doran's ring and two health potions before he replied, "We know each other better than most even if you don't know who I am yet. You can call me Scipio Fur," Scipio then began walking down the paved walkway to lane.
Scipio overheard Caitlyn say, "Give me a Doran's blade," before hearing her louder yell, "Wait up Scipio." Once she caught up she asked, "If we know each other so much, where have we met before?"
Scipio thought for a second before coming up with a witty remark, "The detective already needs clues? I'll give you one. You shot me once a long time ago." Scipio then turned his focus onto the minions heading for the lanes. He noticed how flimsy they were and their mindless attempts at beating each other back. He could easily kill them after they whacked at each other for a while. Then he began his assault on the first tower.
"Well that sure narrows it down," Caitlyn replied sarcastically, "but anyways I'm here to show you the basics." Scipio noticed a pause before Caitlyn continued, "But apparently you already know the basics so I think it is time I join the rival team." This went uneventfully for the first ten or so minutes with each side pushing the lane back and forth without really damaging each other's tower.
Scipio watched Caitlyn's maneuvers constantly and attempted to take advantage of her repetitive cycle. She would push when the minions met at the middle, hit the tower a couple of time, and then move back again. Scipio realized that he could stealth while she pushed and attack her.
Scipio used his perception filter and went in for the attack. He slinked pasted the minions and approached Caitlyn without a sound. He then dove in with his fist and stole 50 gold pieces from her.
"Well that was not expected," said Caitlyn as she continued to push.
Scipio thought Caitlyn would have finally piece together the clues so he asked, "Still don't know who I am sweetheart?"
"No but I will eventually find out … I always do," retorted Caitlyn. Suddenly, she shot her famous Piltover peacemaker which tore through Scipio's shoulder and he turned in an attempt to dodge it. As the sheering pain flowed through his nerves, he noticed that she place another trap which made him decide to move back a bit.
Scipio then remembered to drink the healing elixir he bought. It instantly dulled the pain as his shoulder began to magically get knitted back together. Scipio then realized this would be a moment to strike since she thought he was injured. Scipio's voice was laced with feigned pain as he said, "You know those traps do not do anything right?" Scipio then chose to cloak himself again and disarm her trap. He then quickly proceeded towards Caitlyn with a stiletto in his hand. He poised himself and stabbed her directly in the stomach with his right, while stealing money with his left.
"You'll pay for that!" coughed Caitlyn as some blood came out of her mouth oozed out of her mouth. Scipio then felt bullets riddling his armor. He realized more damage would cause it to quickly deteriorate so he went into stealth mode. As the tower began to get riddled with Caitlyn's shots, Scipio prepared for another surprise attack.
Scipio once again crept on her until he was within range to punch her hard in the face. Caitlyn crumbled to the ground which prompted Scipio to pull out his blade and attempt to finish her off with a neck slash. Caitlyn, however, rolled out of the way just in time and began to retreat while shooting him. Scipio was amazed that Caitlyn managed to escape and commented, "You are better than I expected,"
"So are you, I did not except that punch," replied Caitlyn as she spat out blood and teeth, "For a moment there I thought you were trying to hide."
"Why would I hide? You would find me eventually and give me three seconds to give up," retorted Scipio as he continued to kill minions. A couple seconds later, Scipio then continued with "I hope you know that I respect you. After all you are the best." Scipio said this with such honesty that gave Caitlyn a baffled look.
"Thank you?" replied Caitlyn, "Why would you respect me though? You seem to be thief and most thieves I know do not respect me but fear me."
"Because you are the best of your group and I am the best of mine. We understand each other extremely well," responded Scipio. In this little banter Scipio was trying to push but he felt the bullets getting riddled into his armor plating. He knew the plating wouldn't last much longer but thought he could take down the tower but instead a couple of shots landed in almost the exact same place and penetrated his armor. An excruciating pain took over as he felt his left lung collapse in on itself. This wasn't the first time he had been severely wounded but nonetheless the pain caused him to fall to his knees. He felt the net engulf him almost instantly once he regained some of his thought.
"I'll give you one chance to surrender," Caitlyn said coolly, "Do you accept?"
"Never!" screamed Scipio as he flash out of the net and went into stealth again. Scipio grotesquely moved towards her until he was close to her and drew a knife around her neck. "I'll give you one chance to surrender," mocked Scipio. One breath of Caitlyn's hair, however, knocked him out of focus for a split second too long and at that moment he felt a sharp jab to his ribs as he was pushed back by Caitlyn's elbow. However, before she fully escaped he slit a small section of her throat that would not kill but surely hurt.
As Caitlyn turned around, Scipio recovered himself and poised himself to strike at her throat. "Stalemate," said Caitlyn as she realized he could stab her throat while he got shot in his heart. The blood from Caitlyn's throat continued to ooze as both of them observed each other for what felt like an hour.
"Agreed how about we both put down our weapons and return back to our bases?" said Scipio as he began to lower his dagger. He hoped that Caitlyn's sense of honor would make her do the same. Once placed back into his pocket he stared into Caitlyn's brown eyes that instantly captivated him.
"Why would I do that?" questioned Caitlyn as she saw him place his dagger into his coat, "You are a thief after all and I'm supposed to hunt you."
Breaking from his stare Scipio thought up a replied, "Because you too have a sense of honor like me. I steal to feed the poor and allow them to survive. You wouldn't kill someone who helps people by using illegal methods. Would you or are you just as heartless as everyone says?" Scipio knew his comments would infuriate her but continued regardless because he wanted to see her true colors.
"How do I know you're not lying?" Caitlyn said slowly.
"You don't but you have to trust me," Scipio responded sincerely.
"Fine but next time one of us is going to die," replied Caitlyn as she finally lowered her gun and began to walk back towards her tower to recall.
"See you soon then," yelled out Scipio as he smiled to himself thinking about how nice she looked when she was focused. "Wait what the hell am I thinking. When she finds out who I truly am, she will probably hunt me down for the rest of my life and I'm thinking about how she's attractive. What the fuck," thought Scipio as he attempted to get rid of the image of her out of his head for a second. At that moment he began to recall behind his tower.
Scipio wasted no time at the platform buying additional items to his kit. He felt energies surge from them as he collected them but did not know which ones were best for him. He bought a Rabadon's Deathcap, a Trinity Force, and an Infinity Edge because they were all expensive. Scipio then began to walk back into lane and prepare for another battle.
The rest of the battle went without much change. They skirmished a lot and multiple times both of them had to recall because they would damage each other severely. They almost never manage to kill each other but in the end however, Caitlyn won because her range weapon managed to kill Scipio occasionally with her famous Ace in the Hole which allowed her to mark him for death even when he clocked. Once Scipio's nexus fell, they were teleported into a room where the victors and losers shook hands.
"You did very well for your first time in fact you did better than some people I know that have been here longer," complemented Caitlyn as she placed her gun over her shoulders again, "I still however do not know who you are except that you are an able bodied thief."
"I could reveal the truth to you eventually," said Scipio as he placed his dagger back into his pocket and lowered his hood for the first time, "but I would like something in return." Scipio's thoughts were like a melted candle. It poured everywhere making only one thing left on his mind. He wanted to ask her out.
"What?" asked Caitlyn as she examined his face for the first time, "If you want me to give you a pardon for stealing, you are out of luck."
"No, that is not what I want. What I want is to have dinner with you sometime," said Scipio as he attempted to keep himself from blushing, "We could talk about our past over the dinner."
"Are you asking me to a date?" responded Caitlyn as blush began to appear on her cheeks that made her look even more like an angel.
"I guess you could call it that," Scipio said slowly as he attempted to keep his composure, "So is it a yes?"
"I don't know. I've never gone on a date in my life because I have been too busy but maybe. I still am but maybe I should loosen up a bit. However, I will need to think on it Scipio Fur," Caitlyn replied slowly.
"Well don't worry I have the same problem. I've never gone out because I've been busy so maybe it will work out," Scipio said smiling. Suddenly, he entranced Caitlyn with his dazzling blue eyes and kissed her hand lightly. All he could think about was her during that moment. "We have a lot more in common than meets the eye but we can talk about that at dinner," he added, "Tell me if you say yes later because I need to go meet the summoners apparently," as he turned and began for the double doors.
As Scipio continued, he heard Caitlyn say, "Sure, I'll give you the response at breakfast tomorrow so till then, see ya later." This gave Scipio a sense of relief because he had completed a task that he had wanted to do for so long now. This feeling quickly dissolved once he opened the doors. Inside contained a group of seated Summoners who had left one seat open for him. One of them said, "Come join us. We have much to discuss."
"Why am I here!" demanded Scipio as he sat himself in the wooden seat on the far right end of the long table.
"You have been a curious person to follow and we would like to understand you further" was the monotone response.
"What so interesting about an ordinary man like me?" was Scipio's first response.
"You are anything from ordinary. You lack a single drop of magically potency yet you have more capacity than those with almost godly amounts of magic. Now how can that be?" questioned the summoner.
"Like I said to your High Councilor, I come from a world where advancements are based on technology not magic. I have become skilled in doing things without magic." was the bored response.
"So be it. In this world of technology you have powers that could annihilate a world of all its living organisms in a matter of minutes?" was the next question.
"Yes, but that is irrelevant, I do not have the technology I need to even dream of creating a cold fusion bomb," he said agitatedly, "How does this even help you?"
"Your possible powers scare the council greatly," was the ominous response from all 50 senior Summoners, "We would like to remove you as quickly as possible." Immediately one of the summoners conjured a magic fireball.
"Well this is slightly unpleasant," was Scipio's response as he stared back at the councilor with disappointment.
"We are sorry but we have telepathically agreed you must be stripped of all your rights including your life. You prove to be too much of a risk to be allowed to live on Runeterra. Any last words?" replied the same councilor.
"Well first I like to say today is not a good day to die. Second, I propose a possible solution. Find me a way home and I'll leave," replied Scipio as he sat there motionlessly.
"Unfortunately, we must refuse your proposal. Prepare to die," replied the summoner as he released his fireball the size of his body. As it flew at him, Scipio merely sat there motionlessly. Right when it was about to hit him, a shield of energy absorbed the impact leaving him uninjured. The Summoners stared in shock for a second before all charging their own magical weapons. It ranged from summoning hordes of minions to beams of energy that destroyed almost anything within its path.
"Are we done playing games yet?" asked Scipio as he yawned. Afterwards another fireball hit him and was converted into harmless energy again. "Apparently not but I'm getting tired of the noise so I'm going to turn it down." At that moment Scipio reached into one of his pockets and retrieved an energy nullifier. He then activated it and watched as all the Summoners' magic ceased to continue.
After couple of seconds, the council responded with a question, "Is the deal still up?"
"What deal?" asked Scipio as he began to fall asleep.
"We find you a way home and you leave?" was the response not by councilor he had spoken to earlier but one that he seen on a portrait before named Reginald Ashram. "We have certain conditions though."
"Go on," mumbled Scipio as he began to regain his focus.
"First, we need some sort of affirmation that you will not destroy us. Second main condition, you will still work for us as a champion on the fields of justice as long as you're here," replied Ashram.
"Fine I consent to your conditions. I will prove to you I will not destroy Runeterra by giving much knowledge into the technology I have learned from my old world. Some of it will help you and some of it will teach you how to counter possible technologies I have such as the energy nullifier. Are we done now? I'm getting bored."
"Your impatience will be the end of you," mumbled Ashram, "but as of currently we are done."
"Thank you," replied Scipio as he attempted to get up. However, at that moment 50 different summoners all attempted to assault his mind at once. His barrier, however, only allowed one of them in to see what they wanted. "We wanted to see how able you are at withstanding mental assaults and apparently you are already capable of surviving them so we are done with the first test."
"Fuck you! Get out of my head," replied Scipio as he stood up and headed out of the door with his prized energy nullifier. Scipio placed it back into his pocket and walked towards the double doors he had entered and exited. He closed the door without regard creating a thundering boom that shook the ground around his feet. He then quickly headed towards the doors to the main hall while activating his perception filter. He quickly noted his location before proceeding to dining hall without a sound.
As he opened the door, Garen the Might of Demacia exited with some of the other Demacians. As they exited, Scipio stood aside. None of them even glanced at them aside from Vayne. She gave him a solid stare for a couple seconds before turning away and heading out. As the door closed, Scipio remembered that Vayne could see past his deception.
Scipio then entered the Grand hall and saw all the different types of stalls that served foods ranging from Ionia to the Shadow Isles even. But instead of getting food, Scipio headed towards a lone table close to the North-west corner of the hall. After a quick sweep to assure himself that no one else was there, Scipio sat down and closed his eyes. "In time I will win the long game and in time I will be finally able to return home," thought Scipio as he sorted through his memories. "I've already convinced the council to find a way home and before long, I will be able to see my family again."
A slight disturbance instantly caused Scipio to open his eyes, his alarm diminished as he realized the shuffle was caused by a rat running around. Scipio watched it for a second before reclosing his eyes. "Soon I'll be able to leave this damned world that represents ideas I loathe. Phft! Magic is for little children not for reality. I will be able to escape this prison because I have nothing to lose," thought Scipio. At that moment, Scipio imagined Caitlyn with her milky white skin and her piercing eyes. "Nothing to lose!" roared Scipio in his thoughts as he attempted to ignore the image of Caitlyn in his mind. "I must leave her behind… I have to if I ever hope to reach home…" murmured Scipio as he felt something he thought he could not feel anymore. Sarrow.
After a couple seconds of regret, Scipio thought, "Time heals all wounds and a door must close for the next to open." Zing! Scipio opened his eyes and frantically scrambled behind the table while scanning for the possible shooter. Quickly checking all possible entry and exit points, Scipio realized there was no shooter and he had imagined the shot. "No… Please don't start this again!" begged Scipio as he began to relive his past.
Whizz! Ping! "Ah! I've been shot." Yelled out Stephen Moran as he slumped into the thick mud. A large caliber rifle round was inside of his chest. Scipio turned to him and tried to help but he pushed him away. After coughing up the blood caught in his throat he whispered, "Scipio, you're our last hope. You need to get high command and inform them of our situation. We won't hold out much longer. Get reinforcements." A tear drop fell on Stephen's chest plate that was matted in mud and blood. "Stephen, please don't go! You're my last living friend."
Stephen turned and faced directly at him before giving him a small smile. "Scipio, I'll always be with you. Semper Fi brother." His eyes began to water as his breath became more ragged. "Goodbye, Scipio Fur" His eyes became glass beads once he stopped breathing. Scipio close his eyes before turning and running.
"I'll kill every last one of them if I have to!" Thought Scipio as he drew his automatic rifle and began firing at the rebel forces.
"You've killed everyone I'm close to here so why don't you just kill me!" screamed Scipio as he shot all the rebel forces in front of him. Bodies piled on the ground as a river of blood began to flow through the muddy streets. Tears filled his eyes as he continued to massacre the rebel forces. He shot aimlessly into the streets as screamed in anger for everything that had transpire. Bullets mangled his armored vest but did not directly hit him. Quickly realizing how close he was to dying, Scipio dove behind the cover of a burning vehicle. He checked himself and realized his adrenaline surge with anger had caused him to numb out the feeling of a bullet in his stomach.
Bullets continued to scream overhead as he pulled out a first aid kit and injected himself with a mixture of morphine for the pain and localized blood coagulant to stop the bleeding. Scipio then quickly scanned his surroundings. He had made 300 meters in distance but still had 100 more before he could reach his vehicle and radio for help. The rebels had entrenched themselves in the local buildings and had ambushed his unit's patrol. He realized his chances of reaching the vehicle were slim but did not care. This was his only shot of getting help and rescuing the few remaining comrades that were still alive. He would have to make a run for it and hope they wouldn't hit him. He pulled open his pack and grabbed 4 multispectral smoke grenades. He hoped he had enough to completely obscure himself as he prepared. He quickly pulled a pin and threw the first canister and then threw another some distance ahead. As a thick smoke formed, Scipio breathed in deeply and made a dash. After about 10 yards, Scipio threw his next canister and after 50 yards, he threw his last one. As the initial grenade's smoke dissipated, the third and fourth grenades began to thicken allowing him to get to the vehicle without a random shot hitting him as he ran through the labyrinth of bullets.
Upon reaching his armored Humvee, Scipio grabbed the radio called high command. "This is First Lieutenant Scipio Fur requesting for immediate extraction! Over!"
The radio crackled to life as someone responded, "Lieutenant, what is your status."
"We are under heavy small arms fire and my platoon has suffered severe casualties," replied Scipio as a grenade exploded 30 yards down the road.
"How much longer can you hold out for?" asked the officer.
"At maximum 20 minutes but most likely only 10 minutes," replied Scipio as he saw the final smoke grenade begin to disappear.
"Reinforcements will arrive in 30 minutes at the minimum Lieutenant. We will send multiple attack helicopters to aid your position in the meantime. They are ETA 5 minutes." Replied the female officer.
"Thank god. They should have the firepower to hold them off for now," replied Scipio as another grenade burst a couple meters closer. As the final smoke cleared, Scipio's position was revealed and he realized his chances of survival were slim. Scipio said as a tear began to roll down his cheek, "Save my men, please. They don't deserve to die from my mistake."
"Lieutenant! Hold on they are about arrive." Said the officer as bullets could be heard hitting the vehicle.
"It's too late for me. They've already seen me." Replied Scipio as a tear began to flow down his cheek. "Can you do something for me please?"
"Yes, what is it?" asked the officer as she finally accepted the ultimate fate of Scipio and a small muffled sniffle could be heard.
"Tell my parents and my girlfriend, Lana, I love them. Tell them I wish I could have seen one last time and tell them goodbye myself. Finally, tell Lana that I'm sorry for breaking the promise that I would come home alive," said Scipio as tears continued to flow like a stream after a large rainstorm.
"I'll do it Lieutenant," was the only response.
"Thank you," replied Scipio. As he stayed in his vehicle, he saw a sniper within one of the windows. The sniper had trained his sights on him and fired. Within an instant Scipio felt the bullet lodged in his heart. He screamed for a second in agony before his vision began to blur. Everything became painless as he started to drift into darkness. The darkness continued to engulf him until all that was left was his own body and the darkness.
"Help!" screamed Scipio but no sound escaped. Scipio continued this way for a couple minutes before finally realizing he was dead. "Damn. I was hoping for something more than eternal darkness. This is going to be hell of boring."
After what felt like eons, Scipio saw a spec of light very far away. As he floated there, the light became ever larger until it was the size of half his vision. Then he went through it bringing him to reality again. He gasped for his first breath of air in ages as he looked around. He was within a white room that had nothing aside from a door and a bed which he was laying on. As he tried to get up he felt restraints on his arms and legs. This caused him to scream which then caused what he presumed were nurses to enter.
"Sorry for the restraints Lieutenant, you were thrashing around for a while in your sleep," replied one of the nurses as they released him.
Scipio instantly got up and went towards the door but one of the nurses stopped him by grabbing his arm. "What?" asked Scipio as he turned towards the blonde female that appeared to be in her late 20's to early 30's with a slightly tanned complexion and deep blue eyes.
"You have a lot of catching up to do. You might not be prepared for what you see," replied the nurse.
"What do you mean?" demanded Scipio as he pulled himself away.
"You've been asleep for quite a while… Things have changed since you were last awake," replied the nurse awkwardly.
"I was in a coma wasn't I? For how long?" inquired Scipio as he faced her.
"You could say that but a better statement would be cryogenic stasis… Sir, you've been asleep for nearly 400 years since your conflict with the rebels."
Scipio looked at her for a long while before replying, "This is a god damned bloody trick isn't this. You think its funny messing with people." Scipio went towards the door and opened it to see a sight of immense proportions. Out of the glass in the building, he saw immensely tall structures with flying vehicles everywhere. Everything he remembered from his old world had changed and it scared him.
"Sir, the year is 2461 and we are in New York City. A long time ago you were shot in the chest by a reb-"
Scipio cut her off and said, "A rebel sniper. I know I remember staring down his barrel."
"Well by the time the medics arrived, you were already too far gone to save. You still had brain function but there was nothing they could do but they tried. They tried everything but nothing brought you back. In the end, they were about to let you go to the afterlife but one of your superiors intervened. They decided to try an experimental device that could freeze you. Although they died not knowing if they saved you, they died knowing they tried. So after hundreds of years, technology has finally sufficed in saving the catastrophic wound inflicted on your heart and bringing you back from the deep freeze without damaging you."
"What has happened to everyone I know and hold dear?" questioned Scipio. Scipio already knew the answer but hoped that it wasn't true.
"All deceased. We're sorry but too much time has elapsed. Something took all of them in the end." Replied the nurse as she put her head down.
"Show me," murmured Scipio as tears reached his eyes.
"Jane, get the files," replied the nurse. The other women promptly left the room and after a couple of minutes returned with files in her hand.
To Scipio's surprise they were paper based copies not some digital copy on a screen. After grabbing them, Scipio opened the first one. The papers were slightly yellow and look ancient. He read through the papers.
Lana Kinsey: Deceased
Ashley Fur: Deceased
Teodoro Fur: Deceased
After the fourth file, Scipio stopped and closed them. A tear fell on the outside folder as he gave the files back to the nurse. "Everyone I know gone. A mere speck in the endless flow of time." Whispered Scipio as looked out the window and admired how far the world had gone.
"We are truly sorry for your loss, Lieutenant Fur," said the nurse as she took the files back from him.
Scipio then whimpered, "Why me?"
"What do you mean?" replied the nurse as gave the files back to the other nurse who went to put them away.
Scipio cleared his throat and asked, "Why was I the one chosen for cryogenic stasis?"
"Your superiors wanted to reward you somehow for your act of honor saving your remaining men and your family including your girlfriend agreed to it," replied the nurse. She then went to one of the desks and grabbed a cup of water.
"Thanks," said Scipio as he began to drink the water. The nurse merely nodded before turning to leave. "Did she ever find someone else?" asked Scipio hoping that she did not but also felt guilty for not thinking about her own feelings.
The nurse turned back and stated, "No, she died hoping to see you living one last time. I'm sorry Scipio but I have to get back to business. You're free to leave whenever you like but you will need to visit city hall to reintegrate yourself with society." She then turned and went down the long corridor before turning left.
