Chapter 6:
The Glade of Dreams was silent as the roaring, fire-breathing beasts roamed the terrain. The poor residents were evacuated, thanks to the spirit of the world, Polokus.
The only sounds were the footsteps of Rayman and Skye; the only two in the Glade left to slay the beasts. Of course, Rayman wanted his "daughter" to go with the rest, but she kept refusing. She had a heart of gold, yes, but Rayman believed her decision proved that she was naive at the mind.
Those dragons could tear up the Glade, Rayman thought. But they can't touch the Heart of the World; who knows what that will do.
Flames spewed and destroyed the precious plant-life in the beautiful forest. Trees and canopies collapsed and crackled, catching fire then slowly reducing to nothing but ashes. If something wasn't done soon, there would no longer be a Glade of Dreams!
Rayman and Skye soon caught sight of a group of enormous fire-breathers. Their eyes narrowed down to glare at the two; low snarls escaping their throats.
Rayman gritted his teeth, and pushed back Skye slowly. He wound up his fist and struck the beast closest to them. The dragon roared in pain and shot fire at the pair, but they managed to dodge the assault. The hero jumped up and struck the monster again, this time damaging it so much, it collapsed on the floor, growling lowly in pain as it tried to get up.
But this was just one mere beast. And it was still trying to fight back!
The thunderous roars and cries of the dragons took Rayman aback; he would have beaten all of them then and there, but what about little Skye? She'd get hurt!
He grabbed her hand and ran, trying to find an area to hide. The beasts chased after them, but luckily couldn't find the two after they decided to hide in a hole of a great, hollow tree.
The guardian sighed quietly as he heard the group leave. But this troubled him; he couldn't just let the beasts continue their rampage and do absolutely nothing!
But then, he heard it; the horrid and booming roar of another beast, and from the sounds of it, it seemed to be mightier and greater than the rest. And for once, Rayman was a little afraid.
Something was wrong, after that roar, the other dragons silenced. As if… as if the new dragon was a kind of leader. Suddenly, a terribly loud crashing sound was heard nearby and made the pair flinch. The monster peeked in through the small entrance of the tree, spotting them, its black eyes glaring at them. Before the two could move, the dragons broke out in anger and screeched fiercely. The beast that stood before the two glared back at the other reptilian devils and Rayman saw his chance and struck the side of the leader's face.
The beast cried in pain and glared at the pair; whom were now running out and away from the group. The colossal leader stomped angrily and ran after them. This dragon was fast! The beast caught up quickly and picked up the pair in its mouth! Rayman growled angrily and tried to struggle from the grasp of the monster as it lifted itself into the air.
"Hey! Let us go, or I'll-"
"Don't you even start, Rayman."
Rayman stopped and looked awestruck. The beast could speak!
It was ironic; the beast was the largest and mightiest of all, but her voice was very feminine and soft.
"How… how in the world do you know my name?"
The dragoness sighed.
"I have a lot of explaining to do…"
The female beast flew up higher and gently put them on her back and continued to a new destination.
To be continued…
