Harry Potter and the Amulet of Ice
Chapter Seven: Of Additions and Acquaintances
"Could you go over it one more time?" asked Kristoff.
*Sigh* "Okay, you know the King and Queen have two daughters right?" Harry asked, for what seemed like the hundredth time.
"Yeah." He nodded.
"And you know that the oldest one is sort of sickly, right?"
"That's the rumor." He said.
"Well it's pretty rare, but back home I had a friend that came down with the same thing, and I know what to do to help her through it. So the King and Queen want me there close."
"Shouldn't they have a doctor do that?" Kristoff asked.
"See that's the thing. It's so rare that none of the doctors around here know what to do about it. I just happen to be the only person around who could help."
"So you think you can cure her?"
"It's not really something that can be cured, you just have to learn how to live with it, and it's quite a learning curve."
"And that's why you need to live there with them." He seemed to follow the logic.
"Yeah. I've seen enough of it to know what to do when things go wrong, and eventually she'll learn to take care of it on her own. Then maybe someday I can make my way back home."
"You know what? I've never thought to ask why you're so far away from home anyways. How'd you end up here?" He asked after realizing.
"You know. I'm not really sure. One moment I'm at home, and the next thing I know, I'm here with nothing but my backpack and the clothes on my back." Harry was intentionally vague.
"Sound like you got Shanghai'd." he offered.
"May be." Harry shrugged.
"Don't know why they'd leave you here of all places." Kristoff said, confusedly.
"Strange things always happen to me." Harry waved it off before saying his final farewells to all the ice harvesters, as they departed to the worksite in the dim morning light. He took his pack and headed back towards the castle.

The yawning guards admitted him through the gates with a minimum of fuss, having been briefed on the situation. It seemed the largest part of the castle was still sleeping soundly. Perhaps the early morning festivities the day before were a special occasion. He found his way around the halls to the smaller of the dining rooms. The large one, they'd explained, was only used for large gatherings. It was of course, empty. Though he did hear some commotion through the door at the side of the room. He went to look and found it was the kitchen. The cook was busy bustling around trying to begin the meal and didn't notice him come in.
"Need some help?" Harry asked. The man jumped a little bit before addressing him.
"Goodness, you startled me. Err. No I think I've got it under control." He said a little condescendingly to the supposed 11 year old boy.
"You sure? I know my way around a kitchen, and I haven't got much to do at the moment. It seems I arrived a little early." He explained as he rolled his sleeves up. The cook evaluated him for a moment.
"You must be the extra guest I was told would be coming."
"That's right. Now, what are we cooking? Omelets? Pancakes? Oatmeal? What?" he held his arms up in front of him like a surgeon. The cook sighed for a moment before putting him to work with a menial task. Which he finished with practiced ease. The cook was somewhat taken aback, then began to give him more important jobs, which he completed flawlessly as well. Soon the two of them were buzzing around the kitchen making this dish or that, and before they knew it they'd cooked enough food to feed twenty people. All the while they exchanged ideas and techniques and other assorted small talk.
Soon, the two of them burst into the more private dining room that was off of the grand dining hall, and surprised the four sleepy royals who were silently yawning themselves awake. They exchanged hurried hello's but both Harry and the cook were quite busy bustling back and forth bringing out plate after plate of food. This certainly woke them all up. How could it not? All those wonderful aromas wafting around, filling the room. There was not much conversation as everyone attacked the impromptu feast with fervor. It quickly became obvious that they'd gotten carried away when the four of them, plus Harry, and plus the cook, could not put a dent in the food. The king called a messenger in and proceeded to invite all the on-duty guards as well as all the other staff to come eat. Ten guards timidly showed up, but quickly got over their shyness when presented with food and a place at the table, the cook took the opportunity to save some for the two guards that had to remain on-duty. The maid, the messenger, and another couple of staff that Harry hadn't met yet showed up as well.
Soon, they were all satisfied and sat back in their chairs smiling. The guards and staff excused themselves to return to their tasks with fervent thanks to Harry and the Cook, as well as the King and Queen. It seemed that Harry's coup from the day before would probably be forgotten soon.
"Well, I thank you very much Harry." The King said as he wiped his mouth with a napkin.
"Yes, it was splendid." The Queen concurred.
"Where'd you learn to cook like that?" Anna inquired. Elsa nodded her agreement eagerly.
"Well, I'm mostly self-taught actually. I had to cook for my relatives from a young age. At first I wasn't much good, but as with everything else, practice makes perfect." He picked his teeth with a toothpick. Elsa giggled at him doing such a thing while eating at the royal table. "What?" he asked, only causing the other two females to laugh as well. "What'd I do?" he asked again.
"Most people wouldn't get away with acting that way in the presence of the King and Queen, and their family." Charles smiled.
"Oh, well in my mind, You guys aren't royal monarchs, you're my friends. And as such, I don't think there's much of a need for formality in a private setting. In public is another story, but in normal life, you might as well prepare to see me clean my teeth after meals, or put my feet up when I'm relaxing, or use colorful language when I hurt myself, which happens fairly regularly." He half-laughed.
"Alright then, but only if you'll afford us all the same courtesy." Josephine laughed.
"Of course, it's only fair. After all, I haven't said anything about you all still being in your Pajamas" they all laughed for a moment as they surveyed one another. They did indeed look like they'd just rolled out of bed. The Queen looked horrified for a moment.
"Oh my goodness, and we let all the guards and the staff in here to eat with us, and I haven't even fixed my hair." She began to try and comb it with her fingers as she stood and made her way towards the royal quarters. They all had another good laugh, when it'd died down they could hear Anna humming a little tune. When they looked, she was busy combing her hair with a fork, which caused another round of laughter. Elsa was more amused than the rest because she'd left her braid in and didn't have anything to fix.
"Ok girls, time to go get ready for the day." Charles ushered, and the two of them began to stand as well.
"Head back down here when you're done, and we'll get started with your lessons." Harry said before they could get too far.
"What are we going to be learning?" Anna stopped and asked curiously.
"I don't really know yet, but I'll figure it out by the time you get back." He smiled as they turned and left.
"So, what are your plans then?" the King asked after they'd gone. Harry thought for a moment.
"I guess the first thing is to find some place to do training."
"What are you looking for exactly?"
"Usually I'd want someplace open, where we wouldn't damage anything, but that may not be such a good idea from a secrecy standpoint. So someplace large and indoors and private. I can use magic to prevent any damage or noise giving us away. Probably need to be out of the way, so that people won't be walking in on us, or wondering what we're doing. I imagine that they'll be quite a lot of water and flame produced, so it'll need to be stone, and not easily flooded…" Harry thought aloud. "Got any place like that?" This time the King thought for a moment.
"Actually, I might have just the thing…"

"What do you think about this? Right now we're only using it for storage, and the only time anyone comes in here is to light the beacon at nightfall. Then again in the morning to put it out." Charles said.
"This is great!" Harry said in delight as he examined the room. "It might be a little small, but we can fix that later." He stated. "I see it has drains built in, that's handy." He commented.
"Yes. From time to time the water level comes up and floods the bottom of the lighthouse, but normally only by a few inches. Usually only when a strong storm hits at high tide. It's pretty rare, in fact I've only seen it happen twice that I can remember."
"We might have to enlarge the drains. We might make more water than that."
"You really think so?"
"I have no idea, I'm taking what I expect will happen, and preparing for double that. I find that to be a pretty good rule of thumb."
"I see."
"I also like that the walls and floor are made of stone, at least on this floor. I see the one above is wooden, so we'll have to shield it from any fire. Probably need to add some sort of ventilation as well, come to think of it, so we don't smoke ourselves out." He added to his mental to-do list. "What's on the next floor?" Harry asked as he started up the stairs.
"More of the same I imagine." Charles said, not following as the wizard had already reached the top and started back down after taking a peek.
"Sure enough. Is it alright if I move all this stuff upstairs?" Harry asked. The King nodded and harry began to shrink all the things in the room, levitate them upstairs, and re-enlarge them.
"I must say, you're a handy person to have around." Charles joked as the wizard moved on to enlarging and adding more drains that seemed to grow out of nothing.
"Magic has it's uses, for sure. Just have to be careful to not get too overly lazy. Magic can get things done if you know the right spell, but usually doing it by hand would get you a better result in the long run." He said before casting a barrage of magic at the wooden ceiling which began to glow faintly before fading.
"Wise words." He commented.
"Yeah. We had quite a problem with it back home. Though most people didn't realize it until it was too late." Harry said offhandedly. "Ok. We'll need to step out for the next part." He said before they both went outside. "Now, this may look a little weird, and it will affect non-magical people, including you and Josephine, but I'll key the two of you in after it is cast."
"Okay…" He said, still sort of uneasy at all the new magic he was seeing.
Harry began to pace awkwardly around the base of the lighthouse, mumbling under his breath. He was trying to be as discreet as he could be and still get the job done. He was holding his wand against his leg and casting with the smallest movements he could muster as he circled the building. A subtle sheen rose up from the foundations and climbed up the building in the morning sunlight until it crested and stitched itself together at the top of the building. As Harry circled again, another gold tinted sheen rose up similarly to the first.
When it had completed Charles found himself suddenly confused about why he was all the way out here. He looked around awkwardly. Everything seemed normal, even the lighthouse. He didn't seem to remember why he was here, but he did know that he was waiting for something. What that was he couldn't say, but he continued to wait on whatever it was all the same, even with the fact that the old lighthouse creeped him out a little.
As such, he didn't notice the numerous other spells cast themselves over the lighthouse as Harry continued to circle, now casting with his wand raised up high. When he had finished he strode over to the king.
"Okay. All done." He stated. Charles jumped at his sudden, to him, appearance.
"Goodness!... Were you there this whole time?" he said in a huff "What were we doing by the way?" he asked curiously, after a beat.
"Oh. Right. Hold on…" Harry said as he began to dig in his pocket for a spare bit of paper. He pulled it out and scribbled on it with a pencil before showing it to the king.
'Harry Potter is teaching Magic to Elsa and Anna in the Lighthouse at Arendelle Castle.'
Charles looked confused for a moment before all the memories rushed back to him. Albeit only about five minutes worth.
"Wow. I had completely forgotten why we were here. I'm guessing that's what you had warned me about?"
"Yeah. I cast a modified version of something called the Fidelus Charm on it. The fidelus charm conceals whatever it is cast upon so that it cannot be found except by someone who knows the secret. But seeing as this is a lighthouse, and therefore the whole purpose of it is to be seen by incoming ships, I had to modify it somewhat. Basically I disguised a lighthouse where we are practicing magic, as a lighthouse where we are NOT practicing magic. That way, someone could come strolling into the place in the middle of a lesson, and not notice anything out of the ordinary, but incoming ships would still see it as they would normally. I also added several other general warding spells that are beneficial to have around. You also might have noticed the mild repelling charm I cast on it. Basically just makes anyone not in on the secret a little uneasy about being around here."
"I see. You're right. I was just thinking about how creepy that lighthouse is, but now I don't feel that way at all." Charles nodded. "Well, in any case, it seems we've been discovered." He motioned down the sea-wall/walkway towards the castle, where the Queen and her two daughters were making their way down to them, along with a couple guards who were 'in the know' who saw fit to stay well out of the way.
"What in the world are you doing down here of all places?" Josephine queried curiously when they had reached them.
"I think if you'll just read this, all will become clearer." Charles said, handing her Harry's note.
"Okayyy." She said with a raised eyebrow. "I don't get it."
"Well, it wouldn't have any effect on you as of right now, seeing as you had no memory of that fact to begin with, but due to some magic I cast, if you had known it previously, you would have forgotten all about it unless I let you in on the secret. You also might notice that being down here doesn't make you near as uncomfortable as it did just a moment ago."
"I…Yes. I believe you're right." She said slightly surprised.
"Can I see?" Elsa asked.
"Yes dear." She handed the note to her daughter.
"You too Anna." Harry said as Elsa handed it off.
"Alright, let's go inside, and get started, shall we?" he ushered them all in.

Short Chapter this time. Trying to bust these out. Probably going to wait and post this on my birthday, just for gits and shiggles. I've got the next one done and ready to go, but I'll wait until I get another one written in case I have to go back and add something in before I post it. I tried to write enough to post two chapters, but I just didn't get there in time.
Did you catch the cameo by another redheaded Disney Princess? (Who I don't own either '/Disclaimer')
I think the modified fidelus charm isn't too far out of the realm of possibilities. Basically it disguises something as nothing. So why can't it be tweaked to disguise something as something else? (I am author, hear me roar!)
