Beca lied across her sofa with her legs crossed while wearing her huge ass headphones, music blasting into her ears.

Can I lay by your side

Next to you-uu-uu

As of the moment, since they haven't found the right artist to sing the soundtrack yet, they figured that they would just record themselves first and use it as a preview sort of demo. While Beca hated to admit it, Jesse was a pretty damn good singer. Maybe that was why he turned out to be the leader of an apparently famous 4-time champion acapella group from college. ("HEY! Don't make fun of that. It's a great accomplishment!" "It's hard not to nerd. Organised Nerd Singing? Explains a lot don't you think.") She chuckled vaguely to herself at the memory, a small smile spreading across her face.

"Whatcha thinkin about?"

Beca almost fell from the sofa as the high pitched voice coming from out of the blue scared her.

"Chloe what the hell!"

The redhead giggled as she barged into the room (with no invitations or whatsoever) and offered Beca a cup of coffee as an apology.

"Oops."

Beca groaned and glared at her apparent "Best Friend". Not like Beca Mitchell ever needed a best friend but I guess seeing each other naked and belting out to a David Guetta song in the shower together kind of breaks the "Just Acquaintances" barrier.

"You know there is such a thing called knocking."

"But you just seemed so deep in thought and I didn't really want to disturb yo-"

"Yes so barging into the room makes things so much better"

"Oh c'mon. You love me."

Beca scoffed.

Chloe smirked at her cheekily and Beca knew she had some weird thoughts running through her head. Oh shit.

"Seriously though who were you thinking about? I have never seen you so happy alone befo-"

"I'm happiest alone."

"OHMYGOD!" Chloe screamed, choosing to ignore the tiny brunette's subtle comments, "I bet you were thinking about that hot movie composer dude that you were forced to work with!"

Beca choked and spit out her coffee all over the floor while the perky girl next to her once again chose to ignore her actions.

"What's his name again? Jason? James? Jesus?"

"Jesse! His name is Jesse. Swanson."

"Looks like you know a lot about him." Chloe teased jokingly.

"Please Chloe that's ALL I know about him."

"But he makes you happy."

Beca narrowed her eyes at the redhead, clearly irritated. "What makes you say that?"

"For starters, ever since you met him you have been smiling a lot more an-"

"Ok one, I literally met him a week ago and two, there are other things that could have made me smile instead of that pretentious arrogant dickhead."

"Like what exactly?"

"Well um….uh…I...puppies?"

"That's bullshit."

"What? Can't an alt girl like cute dogs too?"

"Whatever Becs but don't say I didn't warn you, this Jesus dude-"

"Jesse."

"JESSE dude is really starting to get to you."

As Chloe exited the studio Beca thought about what she had said. Sure Jesse was annoying at times and was silly and totally NOT her type at all, but then again every time they were together Beca can't help but feel a certain sense of comfort and somehow is much more relaxed around him. It's probably because he acts like a total goofball and is in fact really pathetic. But deep down inside, Beca knows that it isn't the puppies that make her smile, but rather someone else.

Saturday finally came and Aubrey could not be more excited. Usually Aubrey wasn't the type to gush about boys, much more take the effort to look good for them, but tonight she was dressed in a candy-colored Peter Pilottodress and matching ice-blue Stuart Weitzman sandals and looked absolutely stunning. She took one last look at herself in the full length mirror while straightening out her dress, making sure everything was perfect. Go kill it Posen.

She strutted down the stairs and entered to living room, only to be greeted by her overly aggressive stepsister.

"Dude you KNOW this track is due like next week and you're telling me that you can't finish up the edits tonight because you are 'on a date'? What kind of a wreck would want to go out with you?!" Beca screamed into her phone as she worked on her track with full focus.

Jesse cringed as he pulled his cell away from his ears to prevent damaging his eardrums. "Relax Becs I got it all figured out. I promise I'll record my part when I get home and send it to you by the morn-"

"BY TONIGHT!"

"OKAY BY TONIGHT. Geez Becs I never knew you were so uptight."

Beca sighed to herself as she finally took notice of Aubrey standing in front of her looking all fancy and stuff while she casually put on an oversized hoodie and tied her hair into a messy bun. "Trust me it runs in the family."

"What your mom was like this too?"

"No but my stepsister is."

Jesse grinned in surprise, "You have a stepsister?"

Beca was about to tell him about the time Aubrey threw up chunks all over the place on stage and on live television when she asked herself Why am I even telling him all this stuff?

"Well that's none of your business."

She could hear Jesse chuckle at the other end of the phone and her heart melted. His voice was so smooth and comforting to the ears, it always gave her a sense of reassurance.

"Becs?"

Beca snapped back to reality. "Yea?"

"I gotta go. About to pick up my beautiful date for the evening."

Beca couldn't help but feel a little, just a little, jealous at the fact that he was taking some girl out tonight. She didn't know why she felt that way and didn't want to admit it either, so she figured the best way to approach the situation was to just shoot out insults.

"Oh man I pity the poor girl already."

"Mean." Jesse jokingly replied as he hung up the phone. As much as Beca thinks she's a badass, Jesse knew better and always enjoyed their little playful banters. He knew that the more insults Beca Mitchell threw in your face, the more comfortable she is with you. And he was happy.

"So what got your panties in a twist little one?" Aubrey questioned the brunette as she went back to her mix. Without looking away from the computer screen, Beca mumbled "Some asshole at work.", causing Aubrey to giggle.

"Well have fun working with your asshole. In case you haven't noticed I have a very important date tonight."

"Let me guess, this is the date that will determine whether or not you are really in love with this unfortunate soul."

"Close." The blonde replied as she subtly ignored Beca's insult and grabbed her keys. "But this time I already know that I'm in love." Aubrey smiled dreamily at the thought of her knight in shining armour.

Beca looked at her stepsister as she noticed the sparkle in her eyes, something that she had not seen in years.

"Well I'm really happy for you Aubrey. I really hope this works out for you." She said to her sincerely (for the first time in years Beca was sincere.)

"Me too. I really think he is the one."

As Aubrey left the apartment and approached her date who was already there on time waiting to pick her up, Beca curiously peaked out of the tinted windows. Although she could only make out the faint silhouettes of her stepsister and her date as they entered the car and drove off, she knew Aubrey was happy.

If that night Beca Mitchell had not been so focused on working on that stupid track, she would have found out about Aubrey's mysterious date. But it was a good thing she didn't because let me tell you this, she would not have been happy.
