Chapter 6: With Fire and Ice
"Morph! Fudo, Katsumi!"
As I shouted these words, both of my zanpaktous started to glow with their respected colors. I could see Renji looking at me with surprise, since he didn't know I got my shikai until now. Soon the swords turned into balls of color and floated to my hands, the red going to my right and the blue to my left. Then they exploded into their true forms; in my left hand was a floating crystal of ice that was radiating a blue mist around it. My right hand however, held a ball of fire that radiated a red-orange glow.
Renji: "Well this is new, mind showing me your powers?" He said as he relaxed from his fighting stance.
"Well….I would if I could, but I don't really know how to use them…" I said sheepishly.
Renji: "Oh….well I suppose we'll just have to continue then." He said with a slightly sadistic smile.
He charged forward once again, and seeing as I have no idea how to defend myself , I decided to dodge his attack. If only I could figure out how to use these things...
Katsumi: "Hey heyyy wassup Kagari?"
"Oh nothing really, just you know, running for my life 'cause you guys never told me how to use you."
Katsumi: "Oh that's it? You just gotta use your imagination! Bye now!"
"My imagination? Hey what do you mean?!"
My plea for an explanation was met with silence, until a large rock was smashed to pieces next to me. Noticing bits of rock next to my feet, I promptly decide to flee in the opposite direction of the scary man.
Fudo: "I see you're doing well."
"Yeah I'd say I'm doing pretty dandy."
Fudo: "Well would you like to get a better explanation about how to use us?"
"Yeah I think I'd like that."
Fudo: "Well it's really easy actually, just imagine what you want to use, which one of us will use that form, and bam you're done. Whelp that's all for my explanation, peace."
So I just have to imagine it? Well…it's not like I have any other idea so why not. I imagined a sword of fire and a shield of ice. As I did so the crystal of ice in my left hand began to expand, and soon enough, the crystal had formed into a large diamond shaped shield. I then looked to my right and saw that the orb of fire turned into a blazing longsword.
I saw a glint of metal from the corner of my left eye, and instinctively raised my arm up, luckily however, the shield was able to block the blade from meeting my arm as it made the sound you'd get from stabbing ice. My eyes followed the blade that I had blocked to none other than Renji, although I swear I saw another figure behind some of the rocks in the distance...
Renji: "So ya finally got it through your head how to use your zanpaktou huh?" He said as he took is free hand and pointed to his own head.
"Well yeah, more or less anyway." I said as I looked to my sword and shield.
Renji: "Good! Now the real fun can start!"
He then withdrew his blade back to its compact form and charged towards me. I readied my shield in front of me and decided to charge to meet him in combat. He then swung to my right, the blade extending along the way. Seeing as I couldn't get my shield there fast enough, I decided to block with my sword and then smack his sword with my shield so he couldn't retract his blade to damage my own. His eyes went wide in surprise and then narrowed as if he was angry. To be honest I am quite surprised at myself, where did I learn this much combat experience? It almost felt like instinct...
I decided to close the distance between us since it seemed he had the advantage over a distance. He seemed to have noticed my plan and started retracting his sword, and if he gets it retracted he'll have the advantage once again since he's the better sword fighter between us. If only I could freeze his sword in time...wait a second... A light bulb went off in my head as I turned to the reeling blade beside me. I slammed the blade down to the ground with my shield and imagined it freezing to the ground, which it did. I smiled finding that my idea worked and once again charged towards Renji, who to my amusement, was jaw dropped in surprise. As he stood there with his mouth gaping, I closed the remaining distance between us and knocked him down to the floor using my shield, which I also decided to use to freeze him to the floor for good measure.
Renji: "FUCK THAT'S COLD!" He cried out as he tried struggle out of his icy prison.
"Really?" I said as I touched the ice that was encasing Renji's torso.
"Hmmm I don't feel anything." I said with my brow furrowed at him.
Renji: "T-that's because it's y-your own friggin power!" He said with a shiver in his voice.
Renji: "H-hurry up and get this stuff off!" He said as he looked at me with desperation, while I merely tried to contain my laughter.
"Alright, alright, don't get your panties in a notch." Then it occurred to me...how do I dispel the ice?
"By the way...you wouldn't know how to dispel your own power would you?" I said with a sheepish smile creeping on my face.
Renji: "You're fucking kidding me..." He said as he stared at me in disbelief.
"I mean I could melt you out with my sword maybe?" I held up my blazing long sword as I spoke.
Renji: "Are you trying to kill me?!" He then began sweating profusely as I held my sword closer.
"Just chill man, no need to be such a hot head. I'll just thaw you out with my sword and you'll be fine...I think..." I then set next to him, holding my sword over his torso.
Renji: "You think?!" He then began to shout more protests towards Kagari.
-10 Minutes of thawing and complaints later...-
"Aaaaaand done! There, see I told you it was going to be fine!" I said as I stood up from thawing Renji.
Renji: "You left burn marks on my uniform! How is that fine?!"
"Would you have preferred if it was your hair instead?" I asked with a smirk.
Renji: "Over my dead body ya bastard!" He said as he touched his hair protectively
It was then, I couldn't take it anymore as I bursted into a fit of laughter, all the while Renji was going on about his hair, like how hard it was to get it to retain its shape or something.
-5 minutes of laughing and raving about hair later...-
"Haaa...haaa...ok... Ok I'm good." I said as I smiled sheepishly at him. He sighed in return which made me chuckle.
"So uhhhh... How do I turn these back to normal?" I gestured to my sword and shield as I asked.
Renji: "I can't believe you don't know how to change back your zanpaktous *sigh* you really are a newbie. Alright listen up and get it through your head 'cause I won't be repeating myself. All ya gotta do is tell 'em to change back in your head, simple right?"
I nodded and looked at my sword and shield. Well here goes nothing, Fudo, Katsumi, change back. To my amazement, the sword and shield changed back into their orb form and soon enough changed back to their familiar katana form. I caught them, since they changed back about a few inches above my hands and then promptly returned them to their respected scabbards.
Renji: "See! Even a newbie like you could do it!" He said as he slammed his hand on my back.
Renji: "Now let's go celebrate!" He said as he let out a laugh.
"Ummm what exactly are we celebrating?"
Renji: "*sigh* We're celebrating you getting your shikai of course! Also we'll be celebrating our new found friendship!" My eyes widened a bit when I heard this.
"Friends?"
Renji: "Yeah! You know, the people you like to hang around and do stuff together with? Come on you should know this! I mean you're friends with Rukia aren't ya?"
"Umm I guess so, but what really makes a friend?" I said, which earned me a blank stare from Renji.
Renji: "What makes a friend huh? Well... For me it's whether I have fun or not around them, and in our battle I had a lot fun.
"I see... Well what are we waiting for? Let's go celebrate!"
Renji: "Hahaha! I couldn't have said it better! Let's go!"
-No one's POV-
Kagari and Renji exited the training room, eager to begin their celebration, all the while not noticing the other presence that was in the room with them. After they had left, the other person stepped out from the rock he was hiding behind.
Byakuya: "So that is his shikai…..if mastered he could prove quite a threat… I will need to keep a closer eye on him, even more so than I have before, however he has proven to be quite the difficult one to track through reiatsu… It's almost as if something was repressing or at the very least jamming the signal I would get, which is why I told him to watch over Rukia, as I can track her easily….however she is not here now, which makes my task of ensuring nothing strange happens during the development of Kagari's power much more difficult than it should be…. No matter, the Captain-Commander assigned this task to me personally, and I shall see to it that it is accomplished, no matter the obstacle."
Byakuya then left the room via shunpo*, now leaving the training room empty.
-Kagari's POV-
I opened the hatch to leave the training room with Renji, but I couldn't help to feel that I was being watched. I looked down at the large training room with its desert like setting to see if there was another person, to which there was not.
Renji: "Somethin up? My arms are tired as it is ya'know."
"No..sorry it was nothing"
I climbed up the rest of the ladder and pulled myself up into the barracks, then I lended a hand to Renji to pull him up. Once he was in the barracks, I kicked the hatched shut and faced Renji. Now that I think about it...what were we gonna do to celebrate?
"Uh hey Renji."
Renji: "Yeah?"
"Where exactly are we going?"
He stopped dead in his tracks as soon as I asked the question. I stared at him from behind and I swear I could see him sweating profusely.
Renji: "Uh...well...about that.."
He then began to quiver as he slowly start take steps back. This is odd...where did all his confidence go? A voice in front of Renji broke my thoughts.
Eye-Patched Man: "Oh Renji! Just the type of person I was looking for a sparring match with." He gave a menacing smile and licked his lips at us, which sent a shiver to my back.
Renji: "Oh shit, fuckin book it Kagari!"
He turned to me with nothing else I could describe but fear in his eyes as he grabbed my arm and ran.
It was here I learned that this was not a man we were dealing with but rather a monster. We were practically sprinting through the maze of the seireitei and this thing was keeping up without breaking a sweat.
Renji: "Kagari... I'm sorry to say this but... See ya!"
He practically teleported away leaving a whooshing sound behind, I recognized this technique as shunpo from my time here.
"Renji you asshole! What about that proclamation from earlier?!"
Eye-Patched Man: "Well what do I have here..."
I turned around in horror to face my fate.
Eye-Patched Man: "Well... I guess you'll do hehehehe..."
He licked his lips and gave me a sadistic smile that I'll never forget.

Omg omg I'm really sorry guys! I really have no excuses rather than that school dropped a metric ton of work on me. I'll try to write more but again very busy, buuuut...summer is coming soon.
Shunpo: Translates to flash step; It's basically moving at a very fast speed, so fast that it's not visible to the blind eye.
