The spirit in the iceberg 8
Jack stood at the bow of the ship, watching the waves lazily slap against the side of the boat, halfheartedly denying it passage.
He rolled his shoulders, his muscles still taunt from his enter counter with Zhou. His mind wandered to the prisoner and he sighed. Jack whistled, "blonde hair." He looked up at the sky, and in its darkening depths he spotted a sliver of light, a star.
The cool night air filled his lungs and he wondered when was the last time the prisoner saw the night sky. Maybe it was only because he was a spirit, but a warm night like this that was cooled by the chilled breezes filled his soul with joy.
He heard footsteps and turned around. Prince Zuko was walking towards him, and he was VERY angry. Jack smirked, this was going to be fun.
Zuko scowled and said,"I don't see how you can stand talking to her!"
Jack said,"it's not to bad, she enjoys my company enough to be pleasant with me. Maybe your not a people person."
He turned a wry grin to Zuko and was surprised to see him calm. "Everytime I talk I her, she shuts me out. Have you made any progress?"
Jack, not used to even having a job, chose his words carefully. "Well, there is news.."
Zuko said nothing, waiting for Jack to continue. Jack, not seeing a way out of this, sighed and said. "We have no idea where the Avatar is."
The Prince's reply was an angry scowl. He turned haughtily and stalked off.
Jack simply smiled and looked back at the ocean. In a few minutes, he knew, the sun would set completely, and his dear moon would show its tantalizing face. Was the koi fish still in it? Or was it too, cursed to take on mortal flesh?
Jack shook his head as though he were to shake free all his worries. He glanced around the boat, and saw no one on the deck with him.
Only, there was some one there. Jack could feel it, the raw, sentient being that was wind. His lips parted, and a cool frosted breath pooled out as he spoke.
"Wind.." As though hearing him, it wrapped around him lightly, as attentive to his masters desires as always.
Excited to take its master some where, the wind started to lift Jack up, swirling faster around his legs.
Jack however, knew he couldn't risk being found out. Despite the bubbling excitement for a chance to do something fun, he chided the playful zephyr. "Now now, set me down. I will need you soon, just not yet..give me more time. But to keep you busy.."
Jack reached into his red cloak, and pulled out a letter crisp with frost. "Deliver this to the Avatar, it will explain everything to him."
The breeze embraced him once more then snatched the parchment away in its playful but obedient grasp. "And wind," it's master chided. "No pit stops on the way."
With a flurry filled blast the wind took the letter and swirled into the night air. It traveled over the ocean, through forests and fields.
In a cave, high above the sea, sat five people around a fire. Seven, if you were to count the sky bison and lemur.
The letter landed in a bald boys lap, and he picked it up with his tattooed hands.
A young woman with kind blue eyes and a long braid asked,"what is it Aang?" He shrugged his shoulders and opened it up.
Another woman that was a few years older than the first looked up from her polished bow and said with a toss of red locks,"it's co'ered with frost. Do ye think its fr'm him?"
Aang once again shrugged his shoulders and began reading the letter.
Two boys crowded around him to get a glance at the writing, one pale with green eyes and freckles, and the other dark with a ponytail and blue eyes that matched the woman with the braid's. "sokka! Hiccup! Stop-" the bald boy exclaimed.
"Then tell us what it says! It is the second one we got, I don't know how they know where we are." Sokka whined.
Aang threw the letter up into the air, exasperated. "All it says is to wait, that we will see our friend soon."
The red head bitterly asked,"do th'y mean Rapunzel?" The blue eyed girl answered with a matured calm. "Who else? It's not like we're missing any other fire benders."
The girl's older brother said,"the letter doesn't specify what type of bender they are, it only says friend." The only green eyed teen from the fire nation, the one with the affinity with dragons, asked,"does the letter say the terms again?"
Aang nodded,"same as always." The earth kings red headed daughter picked up the letter, then read it aloud without her accent. "'I will only return your friend to you if the avatar helps me return to my place of origin.' Well wha's tht supoosed ta mean?"
The Avatar, shook his tattooed head and stare into the dancing flames, picturing the fun loving girl bending them. She had taught him that fire was life, but also destruction and it needed to be controlled. He felt an icy breeze bite through his clothes and he pulled his knees in tighter, wishing that there was no war.
