This is for the Phanniemay Prompt "Ghost King"
Somewhere in the far areas of the ghost zone, Danny Phantom flew slowly as he neared a large castle on a single floating landmass. The castle, although its time period from centuries earlier, shone red like modern bricks amidst the green swirling ectoplasm of the ghostly realm with many spires and an entrance that looked like it would swallow you up upon getting too close. However, the ghost boy flew right up to its gaping mouth, pausing only for a second before continuing into the building.
It was obvious to anyone that entered that it had not been inhabited for a very long time. While there was no dust or cobwebs in the ghost zone, ghost spiders had set up their homes in corners and between chandeliers. Although they were the only visible factors, the feelings Danny got from wandering the castle made him sure no one had been there since a year earlier.
The further he went in, the more he saw the remnants of the battle. Ghost skeletons lay in pieces along the corridor and the great iron doors at the end were slightly off their hinges and completely ajar. Danny hesitated at the doors. He knew this lair had also once belonged to the Fright Knight, but he assumed that after his alliance with Vlad the knight had found a new lair to call his own. Perhaps on one of the other pieces of the castle's surrounding kingdom, he thought to himself.
Instead of flying in, he lowered himself to the floor and walked among the rubble that was once a wall in the room, a wall that he himself has knocked down while wearing the ecto-skeleton that no longer existed... as far as he knew. Looking up, he saw what it was that brought him there in the first place; the Sarcophagus of Forever Sleep. Still shut tightly and unmoved from the platform up a set of stairs with the evil Ghost King locked inside. He walked up and slowly put his hands on either side of the keyhole.
His powers had improved and he was able to sense the faint ectoplasmic signature that was Pariah Dark even through all the ever changing and distracting signatures of the ghost zone. He sighed and smile at knowing the sarcophagus had held the king in there for a whole year after being shoved back into it.
A buzzing sound jolted Danny from his thoughts. Looking around in a battle stance, he realized he feel something vibrating against his thigh. Pulling out his cell phone (outfitted with ghost zone to human world capabilities) he answered "Hello?"
An angry female voice came from the speaker. "Where the hell are you? We've been looking for you for over an hour! You can't just disappear on us like that!"
"Sorry Sam. I must have passed through a timeless area of the ghost zone so my phone wasn't working. I made a trip out here to... check on something."
Sam sighed on the other end. "Let someone know next time alright? Especially if you're headed to the ghost zone, at least bring some Fenton Phones or something with you. What were you out there to check on?"
"Nothing too important. Just making sure everything is as it should be." Danny replied.
"You sound like Clockwork. Did you go see him? Is that why you would have been in a timeless zone?"
"I'll be back soon. I'm done what I have to do and am heading home. Tell Tucker and Jazz not to worry."
"Call us if you run into trouble."
"I will. Promise."
Taking one last look at Pariah Dark's keep, Danny flew away to leave the Ghost King with another year asleep.
