Eyes on Fire

Chapter 4

2 Days Later

The TV was playing in the living room, and the radio she had plugged into out of the wall outlets above the counter in the kitchen was playing music. Ino and Sakura weren't home at the moment, they had gone back to their own places. Sakura needed to bring clothes, and Ino said she might take a little longer to come back since she was rooming with two guys, she needed to show him how to do some things before she left. Right now she was making them lunch for when they came back home. Now she could actually cook since they all did a major grocery shopping spree, so they could eat. She was chopping up carrots to put in the curry, the rice was already on the stove. Once she was finished, she put them in the pot to cook. Maybe she'd even make a dessert. She did love to bake.

She went upstairs and grabbed her computer, then carried it downstairs and sat on the couch. One leg hung off the couch while she sat on the other one. She heard a child crying outside, she didn't think much of it because kids cry outside sometimes. You know, when they're with there mom, and didn't get something, or maybe they fell. She searched for dessert with strawberries on google, since they all loves strawberries and she had about three batches, she could use a whole batch.

She laughed to herself, yesterday was fun. Grocery shopping was actually very fun. At least with her friends, they were all like big kids in the store, before the cart was gotten to full, Sakura was sitting in it. Not the part where the babies sit in, the part where you put the food in. They were in Target, so they got a little side tracked and went to the clothes part of the store for a little. Instead of focusing on the food shopping, they focus on the toy section too. It was fun, they almost got kicked out a few time, rode around in the carts, and then decided after an hour of being there for an hour already, they should finally start grocery shopping.

The sound of a child crying got even louder when the child shrieked. Hinata got up, and looked outside her window, there was a child standing in front of her gate crying. No mother or father in sight.

She went outside and open the gates. The child had automatically stopped crying when Hinata went outside, the little girl stared at her.

"Are you okay?" Hinata asked her, bending down to be on her level. The little girl didn't reply.

"Are you alon?" Hinata tried again.

"I don't know where my daddy is." The child had bright blue hair, and brown eyes. She looked like a porcelain doll. She seemed so innocent and sweet.

Hinata gave her a sympathetic smile. "Do you want to call your daddy?"

"He doesn't have a cellphone."

Hinata pressed her lips together, "Do you live in this neighborhood?"

The girl looked glanced from the house to Hinata. Then nodded.

"Do you know how to get home?"

The girl nodded. "But I don't have a key to get in."

"Well maybe-" Hinata started, but was interrupted by the girl who started giving her a big smile.

"Can I stay with you until my daddy comes home!" The little girl held Hinata's hands in her own.

"Oh, b-but-" She was cut off again.

"I can go home later! I know when my daddy will be home!" The child looked up at her with such happy eyes.

"Um.." Hinata looked down the street both ways. She bit her lip, she wasn't sure if this was okay but...

Hinata looked at the girl and smiled, "Sure-"

The girl ran past Hinata, and into the house. Hinata did a small sigh with as mile on her face. It shuld be okay, she was just a child.

She closed her gate, and walked back to the house, closing the door behind her. The little girl sat down on the couch, staring at Hinata as she walked in. Hinata sat on the opposite couch of her.

"So what is your name?" Hinata smiled at her.

"Rika."

"That's a nice name. I just moved into the neighborhood-"

"I know. You moved in four days ago. Your name is Hinata Hyuga."

Hinata was a little shocked the little girl knew all that.

"N-News must travel fast huh?" She laughed it out, trying not to make anything of it.

The little girl stared at her before saying. "I used to live in this house."

"Really?" Hinata replied. "When did you guy move out?"

The little girl counted on her hands. "Four years ago!"

"Oh! Are you the Sakari's daughter?" Hinata kew of some past owners of the house, since she did research it a little before buying it.

"No. Takagaki. Rika Takagaki."

"O-Oh." She didn't know. Well, now she did.

"N-Ne, Rika-chan. Do you want something to eat or drink?"

"Juice."

Hinata got up and started walking toward the kitchen. "Is apple okay?"

"Yes!"

Hinata went into the cabinets to get a up, and washed it off with hot water. She opened the fridge and pulling out an ice tray, filling the cup with ice. Then she pulled out of apple juice, and poured her guest a cup.

"Here you go Rika-chan-" When Hinata turned around, the little girl was siting their anymore. Hinata put the cup down on the counter. "Rika..chan?"

She searched the living room, and then went down the hall way where her bathroom was. Rika ran upstairs with making a sound. Hinata looked in every room downstairs.

"Rika-chan?" Once she checked every room downstairs she went up stairs. First she went in Ino's and Sakura's guest bedroom, she checked under their beds and still couldn't find her. She checked in the closet's in their room to find nobody. Next she went in the bathroom, she pushed the shower curtain aside. Still no Rika. She went in the guest bedroom that no one was sleeping in, and followed the same procedure. Last she entered her bedroom, first checking in the closet, pushing aside clothes on hanger to find nothing. She bent down to look under the bed. She heard the door she had left open close lightly.

"Rika?" She got up, and looked out. "Rika-chan?"

She quickly went downstairs.

Thump.

She stay quiet for a second to listen.

Thump.

She shrieked when the pots in the kitchen start banging, the calmed herself down when she remembered she had forgotten to check on them. Frazzled, she went into the kitchen and turned the fires off.

Thump.

"Rika?"

Thump.

It was coming from the hall way. Hinata walked there slowly.

Thump. Thump. They started to become consistence, and less far apart.

Thump. Thump

Thump. Thump.

It was coming from the coat closet in the hallway.

Thump. Thump. Thump. She quickly opened the door, and turn on the light in the closet. She only saw coats. She started to push them aside, and there was little ol' Rika. She hopped. It was source of the thumping sound. Rika jumped again. Hinata looked at the wooden floor of the closet. That jump made Hinata realize that the floor underneath sounded pretty hollow, too hollow. Rika ran past Hinata, Hinata glanced back at the floorboard once last time before running after Rika.

"Rika-"

It was for a second put she saw the front door close. She walked toward to the door, and opened it, and yelled, "Rika-"

Sakura and Ino stood at the door, with their luggage, confused.

"Ino." She pointed at her herself.

"Sakura." Sakura did the same.

Hinata just stared at them. "Did you guys see anyone leave?"

They furrowed their eyebrows.

"Nope." Ino said.

"No one." Sai Sakura

"Who's Rika?" Ino asked.

Hinata didn't know how to answer, she wasn't sure what to say… and was confused at what just happen. Ino and Sakura, walked past her and into the house. Hinata looked out outside.

"Mm," Ino said. Picking up the cup of apple juice on the counter. "I hope you don't mind if I take a sip."

"Hinata, are you cooking something?" Sakura called from the kitchen.

"It smells like curry!" Ino dropped her bags and went into the kitchen. "Which is great cause I dying for food!

"Oi, Ino!" Sakura said, while she started climbing the stairs. "Let's at least bring our bags upstairs first."

Ino sadly backed out the kitchen, "Fiiine." Ino picked up all her bags, then turned around, "Hinata."

Hinata stood still looking outside the house.

Sakura's door was open. She was watching television in her room, and also using her computer. Bored, she looked at fashion websites, knowing she wouldn't buy anything, but she still liked to look. She laid comfortable on her bed, swinging her feet back and fourth. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw something in the hall way.

A shadow, she figured it was Ino's. She saw the bathroom light turn on, and the sink started running. Getting bored of online shopping she went on Netflix. She decided she would watch a movie. She didn't watch it for very long. She fell asleep fifteen minutes into the movie.

"Oi Sakura," A slightly sleepy Ino walked into her room, only to see her sleeping. She stared at her with sleepy eyes, then walked toward the bathroom. Ino had been down stairs writing up a report since she was still taking some college courses. She liked it down there cause she could also made herself a cup of coffee, but she Ino accidentally fallen asleep on the living room couch, and had been there for about a little more than an hour. When Ino woke up she decided she'd go to bed, but noticed the bathroom light on and running. "Don't leave others water and electricity on." Ino said under her breath, then she headed towards her room.

Hinata tapped away on her computer. It was late at night, about 1 in the morning. Hinata couldn't sleep, she didn't know why. Never mind, she actually knew why.

Can stress cause hallucinations? She typed into her google search bar.

After she did some research she got the answer yes. She even read a story about how a woman so stressed said that she was hearing things. She didn't think she was that stressed out though, was she even stressed at all?

Thump Thump.

Hinata stopped typing, and listened. She didn't hear anything. Had she even heard anything at all.

She stared at her computer, then typed: Am I crazy?

She immediately erased what she had typed. She knew she wasn't crazy it had to be something else. She could hear Ino's voice faintly from the hall way. Yeah, she was overreacting. It was probably just Ino in the hallway. She picked up her cell phone. Japan was nice hours faster than Japan, so it should be around 4 in America. Dialed in her cousin's number. She needed logic right now, and Neji was very logical.

"Hello?" He said in a fully American accent.

"I'm sorry, wrong number." She joked.

"Hinata!" Neji said, about to tell her not to hang up.

"Just kidding." Hinata replied, "How's America?'

Downstairs, the wooden floors in the coat closet banged.

Thump.

Thump.

Thump.
