Concerning my spelling and grammar.

I will read my story a thousand times to proofread it, and will always find mistakes. I don't have someone I can just ask to proofread it will quick for me either. I guess I read it so many times, that I know what comes next and miss a couple mistakes. But I do try really hard to find them and fix them, and I'll try harder for now on, because it also irks me to see all those spelling mistakes too.

Still, thank you for reading my story despite all its flaws. :) Very much appreciated.

I hope you like this chapter!

Eyes On Fire

Chapter 7

People die too easily.

Several ravens gathered on the tree in the front yard. Mikoto worked on stirring chicken over the stove as bread toasted for a few seconds in the oven. Humming a song as she went about the kitchen. She opened the fridge door and pulled out the lettuce. Then went into the cabinet and grabbed the drainer she would use to rinse it off with. She turned on the faucet, then turn it off.

"Fugaku!" She waited for a reply. "I want to make salad, but I won't if you won't eat it."

She got no reply.

"Fugaku!"

Itachi sat in his room, leaning over. His bangs draped, covering his face. The room felt dark and eerie. Outside you could hear the cries of birds. He stood up.

Fugaku flipped through the work that he took home from the precinct. He tried to find the report he started yesterday for a crime with a mafia member. It was a day late. He was usually strict with officers who gave in late reports, but he was a sergeant, so those rules didn't apply to him. He became engrossed into his work.

"Fugaku!" Mikoto yelled rinsing out the drainer. She put it down, planning to head to his office. "Fuga-"

She jumped, and placed her hand over her heart. "Itachi! I didn't know you were standing there!"

"Mom, you know when dad is working in his office he's unaware of the rest of the world around him." Itachi gave his mother a small smile.

Mikoto sighed. "You're right. Will you go ask your father if he's willing to eat salad with his lunch?"

"Sure."

Mikoto walked back into the kitchen. The oven beeped. Itachi didn't move. Three knocks were heard at the door.

"Ah!" Mikoto turned around. "Never mind, will you answer the door Itachi? I'll ask your father."

He nodded. Mikoto ran into the kitchen, put on her mittens and took the bread out of the oven. Itachi opened the door, no one was there, only three nuts lay on their doorstep. Mikoto placed the hot tray of bread on the counter, quickly took off her mittens and walked toward her husband's office. A raven dived from the tree into the house, it flew past Itachi leaving a gust of wind behind that blew his hair. Out of the corner of her eyes Mikoto noticed something coming at her, by the time she turn around it was only a centimeter from her face. The raven with its beak and some of its chest covered in blood took its seat on the stairs railing.

Mikoto dropped to her knees and screamed in agony. Her voice was hoarse, she couldn't utter a word. She covered her left eye with her hand, her right eye overflowed with tears. She crouched down, trembling from the excruciating pain. She felt the warm blood drip down her leftcheek. When she touched her face, she saw thick blood on her hands. She closed her good eye that poured tears and let out a distressed groan. The more she felt her pain, the quicker more blood spilled from her eye. Her clothes stained with red. She violently trembled, bending down low to the ground.

Fugaku lit a cigarette in his office, and listening to classical music that drowned out his frustration and the world him.

Itachi didn't move towards her. Just looking at her from the corner of his eye. With his emotionless black eyes.

He stared at Hinata making burgers on the stove in the kitchen. She had a little apron on. Currently he sat next to her friend on the couch, unnoticed by everyone. The TV was playing although no one was watching it. Sakura was too busy online shopping on the computer. Hinata turned around, and looked into the living room.

"Sasuke."

He tensed up.

"Coming Hinata." Sakura said, adding one thing to her cart real quick before getting off the couch to help her in the kitchen.

He relaxed. He started staring at her again. She had actually called for Sakura's name, but he heard his. Her voice sounded like his mother's when she spoke sometimes. It caught him off guard.

"Can you get the fries out the fridge for me and put them on the tray so I can heat them in the oven?"

"No problem." Sakura headed to the fridge.

"Also, would you guys go with me to drive to my uncle's grave today?"

Sakura nodded, "Is it the day he died?"

Hinata shook her head, "No, its tomorrow, but I don't think I will be able to make it tomorrow."

Sakura opened the bag of fries and put them on the metal tray, then made sure they were all spread out. She asked, "I think you told me the story before, but what was it again? How he saved you?"

"Oh," Hinata said. "When I was 9, some thieves tried to kidnap me trying to get ransom money, but somethings went wrong, and then they tried to kill me, but my uncle saved me."

Sakura finished putting the fries in the oven, then leaned on the fridge. "Wow, that's traumatic, you are so strong Hinata."

Hinata gave Sakura a humble smile.

"I'm serious, I remember a couple other stories that you once told me before that I thought could leave a mental scar, but it's like you didn't let those change you." Sakura said. "You're a survivor."

Survivor.

He snickered on the couch. If only they knew that… people die too easily.

"HINATA!" Ino yelled from the bathroom. "I NEED SOME MORE SOAP."

"Okay!" Hinata put cheese on the burger meat real quick.

Three knocks came from the door. Sakura walked toward the door. "I'll get it."

"Hinata!" Ino yelled again.

"I'M COMING!" Hinata started rushing out the kitchen.

When Sakura opened the door, nobody was there. She didn't notice the three nuts on the ground. She was more bothered by the several ravens gathered on Hinata's fence. She furrowed her eyebrows. One cawed, and then flew straight at her. Sakura shrieked and covered her head while ducking, but it went past her. Missing her completely. It entered the house. When Hinata was walking past the staircase she heard Sakura's shriek. She turned toward her, but all she could see was the black raven, flying straight at her face.

"Hinata!" Sakura yelled.

The bird crashed into the stairs and looked like it was seizing on one of the top step. Its wings twitched, and it ran in circles on its side. Hinata was bent back, basically using her past gymnastic abilities to do the bridge. She got up and sat on the second step on of the stairs. Sakura's hand covered her mouth. Hinata looked at Sakura with big eyes. Hinata looked back, and saw its odd behavior on one of the top steps.

"I'm glad that I saw it in time." She let out the biggest sigh of relief. She did a nervous laugh. "I didn't think about how I dodge it, my body just kinda… bent back."

Sakura gave a small awkward laugh herself, "It looks like you still got the of skills of a cheerleader co-captain."

Hinata gave her an awkward smile.

"Hiiinaataaaa~!" Whined Ino from the bathroom.

The bird twitched it's way off one step. Hinata got up real quick, because it started falling down the stair. It stopped moving. The burgers on the stove started making cracking noises.

"I-I'll get rid of the bird, you go to the food and Ino." Sakura put her hand on Hinata's shoulder.

Hinata slowly nodded, then made her way into the kitchen to turn off the fire. Sakura got a dust pan and broom, and cautiously swept the dead bird into the pan, making sure no the touch it or drop it. She dumped it into the garbage, and tied it up. Cautiously picking up the garbage and walking to the door. She hesitated, but it opened it quickly out of anxiousness. All those ravens that were on Hinata's fence were all gone, she stared at the gate before leaving her daze and threw out the garbage. When she went back into the house Hinata was coming from the bathroom.

He let out one dark laugh. Luck. This girl had luck. He stopped laughing and glared at her.

Too bad his mother didn't have the same luck.

Sasuke got up and went upstairs.

It didn't matter. Luck runs out.

Ino slowly ran the shaver up her leg, trying not to get anymore more cuts. She had already gotten one close to her ankle because she was going too fast. She liked having soft and smooth skin, so she'd shave even if there was only a little stumble. The only thing covering her body was a towel. Sakura and Hinata were gone, they were visiting Hinata's uncles grave. Ino would've went with them if she didn't need to go one of her college classes in a couple of hours. Hinata had left her a burger in the kitchen. Psychology class at the university started in two hours, but Ino planned to go early because she wanted to ask her professor, Asuma, some questions. Another thing she anticipated was seeing Asuma's son! Even though he was already 5 months old, she hadn't seen him once! Along with Chouji! Shikamaru had seen him couple times already. Asuma said if they came early Kurenai would come to the class room with the baby for a little bit. She couldn't wait to hold to baby in her arms or see who it resembled more. The razor cut her, wide enough for a stream of blood to flow down her leg. Ino winced at the pain when the soap substitute for shaving's cream entered her wound. Ino reach toward the bathroom cabinet for another Band-Aid then stopped.

"I can't believe Principal Hiruzen died! I heard the founder of the school's granddaughter is going to be in charge next year." Ino said.

"What'd he died from?" Sakura asked.

"Cardiac arrest." Hinata answered.

"He was really cool for a principal too."

Her arms dropped to her side, her towel fell too. She slowly put on what underclothes she brought with her to the bathroom, then stepped out.

"Lee asked you out again right Sakrua? Go out with him! You'd be dating an upperclassmen!" Ino teased Sakura as they drank milkshakes at an American styled dinner.

"Not if my life depended on it!" Sakura looked at Ino as if she was crazy.

"She should date him! Right Hinata?"

"O-Oh. Mm!" Hinata stopped drinking her chocolate milkshake and agreed.

"Uggh! Hinata don't agree with her!"

Ino walked toward the coat closet.

"Ne, Hinata! What are you doing today?"

"Me and Shino are going to Kiba's house to watch a movie."

"Really? Does your dad know you going to a boy's house?"

"My father's not home this morning, so I didn't get a chance to tell him… Hanabi hangs out after school with friends and Neji started college this year so he's not home with us anymore. But we're all just friends anyway."

"Really? You don't like Kiba or Shino or anything?"

"No way, we're just friends."

Kiba arms flung around Hinata's shoulder.

"Aww, I thought there was something more between us."

Shina stepped up. "Yeah, I really thought we had a connection going on."

Hinata smiled at them and said bluntly, "We don't."

Kiba took his arm from around her. "Well, that sucks. Let's go! Before my sister takes control of the living room TV."

Hinata nodded, "Bye Ino!"

Ino opened the closet door, and pushed everything aside so it didn't cover the floor. She pulled up the floor board effortlessly unlike the first time she had too. Sasuke watched her climbed down the ladder into the basement, and turn on the lights. She sat down in the middle of the room, hugging her knees. Her lifeless eyes stared at the altar. He was looking through her memories. He didn't mind getting to know his victim before a kill.

"Let's go Kyuubis! Let's go!" Clap! Clap! Clap!

Konoha's Kyuubi cheerleaders finished their second short routine with a pyramid.

Hinata rushed down from the bleachers. Sakura ran to Hinata and hugged her. Their school's football team was ahead of their opponents by 6 points. Students who sat in the bleachers to support Konoha High's team were going crazy. The bright lights flooded the football fields. The scene felt it would in the movies.

"You are a life savior!" Sakura grabbed Hinata and hugged her tight.

"I'm not sure I can do this Sakura!" Hinata frowned at Sakura, having doubt.

"I know you weren't able to practice the routine with us because you had to go on a business trip with your dad a couple of days, but Karin is drunk with two of football guys, and she can't do the final pose or routine!"

Ino came, and hugged Hinata from behind.

Hinata gave in. "Okay… which routine am I doing?"

"The final one! The one to the song Bring The Noise… it's finishes with a handstand pyramid."

"Finishes with a handstand pyramid?" Hinata had to repeat that.

Sakura bit her lip, and nodded. Ino hugged her tighter.

"Yeah, I'm not sure I can-"

"Hinata!" Sakura grabbed her shoulders.

"I wasn't very good with the handstand pyramid during practice… but I'll try my best!" Hinata smiled.

"That's great!" Ino said, handing her a uniform. "Go change!"

Ino escorted Hinata into the school, and by the time Hinata was fully changed, the Kyuubi's football had scored 4 more points, so the cheerleaders were responsible for hyping up the crowd. Hinata took Karin's original spot in their triangle formation.

"Ready!" Sakura shouted.

"Let's go!" They all shouted!

"Stick and stones may break our bones!

And words can cut like ice!

But we will kick your ass all day,

Cause Kyuubi's sure can fight!"

The music started, and Sakura, Ino, Hinata along with two other girls were immediately lifted a heel stretch, then fell back onto their supporters who were responsible for catch them. Hinata was good with keeping up with the choreography. She was on time with all back flips, toe touches, star sits, baskets, scorpions, and spins and other stunts. Once it came to the finally pose, Sakura was hosted in the air first, she extended both arms. Hinata and Ino simultaneously did hands stands, and were lifted up by the supporters onto the backs of two already lifted kneeling teammates. They both lowered one leg, while Sakura held both of their other legs in the air to keep balance. Then Ino and Hinata fell back into the cradle, and was caught by base supporters. Sakura was thrown into a Back Tuck Basket, then back doing the cradle.

"Let's Go Kyuubi's!... LET'S GO!"

Everyone cheered. Amazed by the stunts performed. Cheerleaders hugged there friends, dropped to the ground from exhaustion or went for their water bottles. Sakura and Ino hugged Hinata who had a happy smile on her face.

The floorboard of the closet was loudly placed back on. It brought Ino back into reality. She stared at the two photos of the man and women on the altar before realizing she was in the basement. Then jumped up, and looked around the room confused. Ino ran to the ladder, and noticed only her exit blocked.

"You've gotta be kidding me." She mumbled under her breath. She climbed the ladder and tried to force it open. It didn't budge.

"Help!" She yelled. "Help!"

The lights flicked. Ino stopped banging; she stared at the light bulb. It stopped flickering, and then died out completely. Pitch black engulfed the whole room.

"HELP!" Ino banged on the ceiling harder. Upstairs in the empty house you could barely hear her.

Sasuke sat in the living room. The only memories they of their teenage years were good ones. Unlike his, where he always rivaled his older brother for their father's approval. He had always been so faithful to his parents, and would do anything they asked. Still… no matter what he did, his father would always praise his brother before him.

"Ugh…" Sasuke rubbed the back of his neck. "Now I'm in a bad mood."

Hinata rolled in the block and smoothly parked in front of her driveway because she was too lazy to properly park, and she wouldn't call someone to tow away her car. Sakura asked Hinata to drop her by the hospital because she wanted to visit Tsunade, so she would come home later tonight. She opened her car down, and stepped out her car. She stopped and looked around, feeling someone's eyes on her. Tiny footsteps were heard from behind her car. She locked her car then walked toward them, but they ran away. She chased them around the car once before giving up and walking toward her house.

"W-wait!"

Hinata stopped opening the gate, and turned around. The little girl from the first day they moved in. Her mother was the only one who greeted her into the neighborhood. Hinata smiled at the nervous looking girl, who clutched her teddy bear. This little girl had brown eyes and hair.

"W-Where's Rika?" The girl yelled.

Hinata stared at her, "How do you know… Rika?"

"She used to live here," The girl clutched her bear, "she was my best friend when I had no one… I saw you with her! Now where is she!"

"I-I don't know." Hinata bent down lower to be at eye level with the girl. "Where did you see us?"

"In the red dream."

In state of shock Hinata stared at the girl. She racked her brain thinking about a red dream. She remembered it now. The dream she shouldn't remember before, she remembered now. Where everything was red, the TV glowed played white and black snow, and…

'Rika and her dead father were the door,' Hinata thought.

Hinata covered her mouth, clearly remembering the sight of the man in a suit and tie smeared with blood than dripped down from his neck.

"But… that was a dream… how did you see that?" Hinata asked her.

Hinata's seriousness startled the girl.

"I sometimes see it in my red dreams. It where I'm asleep, but I wake up, and everything around me but the TV is red. I woke up in the dream, and I looked out my window, and I saw you there with Rika, and someone else, but I couldn't tell who they were."

"Keiko!"

The girl's mother yelled for her from her doorway. Her mother quickly ran out of the house, and grabbed the girl by her arm.

"You know you're not supposed to leave the house!" Her mother yelled.

"But! I saw Rika!" Keiko yelled back at her mother.

Her mother stiffened, and said bluntly, "You couldn't have… Rika's dead."

"STOP SAYING THAT!" Keiko cried.

"KEIKO. YOU ALREADY KNOW THAT SHE DIED TWO YEARS AGO!"

The girl cried, and ran back to her house.

"E-Excuse me." Hinata said. The mother looked at her, but Hinata got nervous, and was unsure what to say.

The mother looked back at her house, "I'm sorry you had to see that. You might think I was being harsh on her, but it was for her own good… That girl can see things we're not supposed too. So please forget anything might've said."

The women began walking back to her house.

"What do you mean by that?" Hinata asked quickly.

The woman didn't look back at Hinata, she just continued walking toward the house.

"She can see the dead." Her mothers voice cracked.

Hinata's jaw dropped a little. She turned toward the gate, but hesitated to enter. She quickly entered her house, and locked her door. Hinata closed her eyes, and took a deep breath. Trying to calm her nerves. She could hear a faint thump. She listened closely.

Help!

Hinata ran toward the coat closet, pushed everything cover the floor aside, the lifted up floor board.

"Hinata!" Ino yelled with joy.

Hinata helped Ino out of the dark basement. Ino were slightly red and irritated, her hair was also kind of messy. She was only wearing a bra, undershirt, and panties.

"Ino, why were you-"

"I don't know!" Ino's voice cracked. "I was in the bathroom then all sudden I was in the basement! The lights went out, and I really started to freak out. Thank God your back!"

"How long were in there?"

"About… since probably… thirty minutes after you left."

"You been in there for three hours?"

Ino eyes widened. "What time is it now?"

"It's two o'clock?"

"No!" Ino freaked out. "No! Class ends in an hour and it takes about 30 minutes just to get there!"

The lights in the basement turned back on. Ino got up, and walked out of the closet. Hinata put the floorboard back over it.

Sakura waited in Tsunade's office. She sat in her big spinning chair. Tsunade was nice enough to get Sakura a job at the hospital, and also take her under her wing as an intern. Tsunade was like a second mother to Sakura, and she was one of the most well-known female doctors in Japan.

A terrible scream came from outside. Sakura got up, and peeked outside from the door. A patient wearing a white gown covered in blood was being rolled down the hallway on a stretcher. The patient tried resisting the restraints. Sakura noticed how sickly pale her skin was, and how her hair looked dry and damaged. When the patient was rushed passed she saw how rotten her teeth looked, and how white her pupil were with bloodshot eyes. The patient let out another terrible scream that made Sakura cringe. Sakura stared until they turn the corner.

"Ah, Sakura!"

Sakura turned to see Tsunade walking toward her. As usual, Tsunade was wearing an open lab coat with a lot of cleavage showing.

"Tsunade-sama!" Sakura said, then looked back down the hall to were that terrible looking patient went.

"Oh, she was scary wasn't she?"

Tsunade walked into her office and took a seat at her desk, Sakura came back into the room took a seat herself.

"Sometimes we get people like her." Tsunade took out a cigarette and lighter.

"What was wrong with her?" Sakura asked.

Tsunade lit her cigarette. "She was possessed."

"Can you take care of patients like that?"

"Well." Tsunade put her feet on her desk. "We can't really fix their 'possessed' situation, a priest can come by but that was nothing to do with us. It seems that she had eaten all the crosses in her house, and now they have to get them out of her. Those types of patients usually only come when there's a problem with them health wise that we can fix."

"Tsunade-sama… do you believe in stuff like ghost and demon and stuff-"

The door opened.

"TSUNADE-SAMA!" Shizune had a twisted smile on her face. "Look what I found the Operation room!"

Shizune stood in the doorway holding three empty bottles on liquor in her hand. She glared at Tsunade. Tsunade let out a guilty laugh.

"It helps me calm my nerves before operating-"

"YOU'RE GOING TO GET US SUED!"

Sakura petted Ino's head as Ino head rested on her lap. Sakura had heard the story that Hinata had told her the story already. Ino had been feeling anxious since then, she hasn't wanted to be alone in a room by herself since…

Hinata laid in her bedroom thinking about what Keiko's mother said.

She can see the dead.

Hinata hugged her knees in bed. Does that mean that all this time Rika was dead?

'I should go to bed, I might start thinking too much…' Hinata thought. She turned off the TV and pulled the covers over her. Five minutes is all it took for her to go to sleep.

Sasuke climbed in bed with her. They faced each other. He stared her sleeping face and went to look into her memories.

Everyone was dressed in black, rain was falling down but now one paid attention to it, cause everyone was mourning. An 8 year old Hinata held her 2 year old sister, Hanabi. Hinata looked up at her father and wasn't sure if he was crying or not because of the rain. He only stared down at her mother's grave. Hanabi wiggled around in Hinata's arms and started making sounds to get Hinata's attention. Their father glanced back at the two; Hinata immediately got her baby sister quiet. Hiashi looked back at the grave. People slowly began to retreat back to their cars because of the rain. Even when everyone left, the three just stood there. Then their father abruptly turned around, and started walking toward their car. Hinata quickly followed him, trying to keep up with her sister in her arms. Hiashi opened the back doors for Hinata and her sister, then went to his position in in the drivers seat. Hinata placed Hanabi in her car seat and buckled her drove out of the cemetery. The car was silent, until Hanabi started to make joyous sounds.

"Shh Hanabi!" Hinata whispered to her sister.

"Hinata." Hiashi said sternly from the front seat.

"Y-Yes!" She quickly replied.

"…Starting tomorrow… You're going to have to endure the responsibility and training into become the next heir of the company." He said. Then looked back at from the front mirror. "And lose your stutter."

"Y…. Yes father." She replied.

Hinata looked back out the window at the cemetery.

Mom…

Sasuke stared at her.

'So she lost her mother when she was young…' He looked at her. He reached out his hand, in attempt to move some hair out of his face. He snatched his hand away from her.

Feeling sympathy would get him nowhere. Maybe once in a while he felt it with some victims. It never lasted long though.

Sakura tried to slowly reach for the remote on the bed without waking up. Suddenly Ino rolled off the bed. She fell to the ground with a big thump. Ino groaned, face down on the floor.

"Ino!" Sakura said, jumping off the bed to assist her friend. Sakura reached down to help her friend up.

"Wait!" Ino sat up herself, holding her hand under her nose. "My nose."

Sakura realizd that blood was dripping her nose. "Well… hold you head up to stop the dripping."

Ino did as she was told. "Now what?"

"I'll get tissue so you don't have to hold you head up all night…" Sakura rushed the bathroom. She took a quick glanced into Hinata's room as she rushed to the bathroom. Sakura abruptly stopped and walked back to Hinata's room. She stared into the dark room long and hard. Her eyes adjusted to the darkness in her room.

'It looks like there another person in her bed, but…' Sakura thought. Her hand searched the wall for the lights, but Sakura didn't take her eyes off the bed. She turned the light on, but only Hinata laid in the bed. She turned them back off. There it was. I looked like someone was there. She turned it on. No one.

Off.

They're there.

On.

They're not.

Off .

They're there.

On.

There not.

Off.

Sakura held her breath. She couldn't se e them anymore.

"Sakura!" Ino called.

"I'm coming!" Sakura said, staring into the room one last time before leaving.

His red eyes watched her leave the room. Then he closed his eyes as well.
