[Chapter 3: Falsis Principiis]
"Prayer is not asking.
It is a longing of the soul.
It is daily admission of one's weakness."

"You couldn't be..." She whispered, barely audible to those around her.
In response to the Priestess scuffling the Priest glanced at the strange girl for a few seconds out of the corner of his eye. He noticed something he never wanted to see again. Golden eyes. The Priest ignored the child and focused his attention back to the owner of the store.
"Hicks, I need the bike now," he demanded. Hicks smiled. "Is it repaired?"
"Of course," he replied as removed the chain from the motorcycle. "So, how have you been?" Priest didn't reply. "It's been a few months, can't you at least give me an update?" He asked, flashing his almost pearly whites to the Priest.
"It's been a struggle. They keep multiplying. Every vampire we kill, another two show up while us...we don't gain more," he reached for the bike placed beside him. "Of course, we can always use new recruits."
"No. I've said this before. I will not go unless your daughter is safe. I want to protect her while you're gone."
"What about myself?" the Priestess jumped into the conversation. The two men turned to her.
"I'm not very keen on people who eavesdrop," the Priest said in a low tone with a scowl. "Besides you're too young for this war."
Priestess scoffed. "I was trained the same as you. I may not have participated in the war but-" Her words were cut off as she felt a cold metal kiss her neck, nicking it, and let a drop of blood run down her neck. "Is something wrong?" She asked with a smile.
"I can't trust the clergy's dog. Especially one with those eyes."
The Priestess winced at the mention of her eyes and leaned forward, making the blade steal another drop. She frowned. "One: Fuck the clergy. I am not their dog. I am but a prisoner to our priestly duties, ones that you rebelled against." She paused, waiting for a response. And two: you got a problem with my eyes old man? It's not like I'm looking at you with lust, a sin."
Priest snarled at her. "A man with those eyes kidnapped my daughter. Threatened to turn me into one of him. And almost made her a slave!"
The Priestess frowned. "But I wasn't that person. How can you judge me as if you know me!" She yelled out and the blood from her neck dripped into a small stream. She yanked the knife by the blade from his hand and pointed it towards him. "You dare spill one of your own's blood?"
"No. You are not like the rest of us."
"Heh. You're funny when you think you're right."
"You're a human vampire." He stated, shocking the Priestess.
"I am not what you're insinuating." She gritted her teeth.
"But you are. You feast on human blood like the rest of them."
"I don't," she hissed. "But you're close to the right answer. All priests are just like vampires. You need fire to fight fire. The only difference is that can bask in the sunlight."
"I am NOT one of them," he exclaimed, he accidentally spit at her while moving his face closer to hers. The stolen blade in the her hand adjusted to his movement, targeting his lymph nodes.
"How rude," she smiled, "You know, it's not polite to spit on a lady's face." She retreated her pointed blade from his neck. She flipped the knife, catching the knife by the blade's blunt side and the handle towards the Priest. "Here." The Priest looked at her in an expression of both confusion and still anger. "I tire of your games." She beckoned him to take the knife again.
"Why let your guard down?" He asked as he took his stolen weapon back. "I will kill you with it."
The Priestess laughed in amusement of his words. "I know," she told him, grinning. "You wouldn't be fast enough to kill me anyway," she muttered under her breath.
"What'd you say?" the always-questioning Priest asked yet again.
"I said that I wish to accompany you. You know since you seem to be going out to the wastelands."
"What." His eyes showed disbelief.
"You heard me."
"I don't need a vamp's help."
"I'm not a vamp," she answered, frowning.
"C'mon," Hicks started, "y'know we need more numbers in this war. We're outnumbered and you're fully aware of that." Both of them stared at Hicks then back at each other.
"Fine," Priest replied.
"Care to join us?" Hicks asked the young Priestess, triggering a smile within her.
"Sure. There's nothing fun to do around here anyway. This city of automatons. I look forward to my death, Priest," she smirked. This'll be fun.
