I don't own Twilight!
Dates and Departures
After our therapy appointment the rest of the week passed quickly, and before I knew it the weekend was upon us.
It had been a long week and I felt grateful it was finally coming to an end. In addition to the therapy, I had also had a doctor's appointment for my arm. It was healing well, and the doctor said I might be able to get the stitches out the following week if there were no infections or complications. I was excited because while I knew my arm would still hurt, I was hoping the lack of stitches would give me more mobility. Doing things with one arm sucked, and it did nothing for my already challenged balance.
The buzzing of my phone distracted me from the book I was trying to read. I threw the book on my bed and leaned over to grab my phone, and smiled when I saw that Edward had texted me.
We hadn't seen each other since our therapy session, and I missed him. We had texted when we had nightmares, but we hadn't seen each other face to face. I quickly clicked on the little envelope in the corner to see what Edward had said.
Hey Bella, are you there?
Yep, I'm here.
I have a question for you.
Ok, what is it?
Will you go on a date with me?
My breathing hitched and my heart stopped. Edward Cullen was actually asking me on a date. Even though we had kissed, it was still a shock to me. I let out an embarrassingly girly sequel before replying.
Yes.
Really?
Yes, of course.
Awesome. Are you free tomorrow?
Yeah, but how is this going to work if neither of us can drive?
Don't worry. I have a plan.
Okay.
Perfect, I'll see you tomorrow.
Okay, bye Edward.
Bye Bella.
I threw my phone down on the bed and let out another embarrassing squeal.
"Bella, are you okay?" my mom asked, and I looked up to see her standing in my doorway with an uncharacteristically serious look on her face. A bright red blush lit up my face as I realized I had been caught having my little moment.
"I'm fine," I replied with a smile, "Edward asked me out."
"Oh honey, that is wonderful," my mom said as the seriousness vanished and a smile took its place.
"I don't know how because we can't drive, but Edward said he had a plan," I said.
"I am sure that whatever you do, you will have a great time," she said, "When are you going?"
"Tomorrow," I replied.
"Well, in that case I better let you get some beauty sleep," she said as she kissed my cheek and turned to leave.
"Mom, you seemed kind of serious when you walked in here. Is everything okay?" I asked.
"Everything is fine," she replied, "I wanted to talk to you about something, but it isn't that important, it can wait."
"Are you sure?" I asked skeptically.
"Positive," she replied, "sleep well honey."
"Good night mom," I said and watched she closed my door and left. I fell into a dreamless sleep. I guess the excitement over a date with Edward overpowered the all the negative stuff that was currently weighing on my mind.
I awoke the next morning both excited and nervous for whatever Edward had planned. I got up carefully and quickly used the bathroom before heading downstairs. Charlie was at work, but my mom was there, and she had a pop tart and juice sitting out for me.
"So, do you know anything about what you and Edward will be doing on your date?" she asked.
"No, he said he had a plan but he didn't tell me what it was," I said before taking a bite of my food.
"What time are you going?" my mom asked.
"Um, I don't know that either," I admitted.
"You should probably find out," my mom said.
"Yeah probably," I agreed.
"You are really excited about this, aren't you?" my mom said.
"Yeah, I really am," I replied.
"It's nice to see you smile again," my mom said with a smile of her own.
"It's nice to smile again," I admitted as I finished my food, "Now I need to go find something to wear."
I spent the rest of the morning and most of the afternoon trying to find something to wear. I didn't have anything cute that would fit over my stupid sling. I groaned in frustration and flopped down on the mountain of clothes that was now on my bed.
There was a knock at the door but I ignored it as I buried my head deeper into the clothes pile.
"Hi Bella," a chipper voice said from my door way. I looked up and saw Alice standing there, holding a bag and smirking at me.
"Alice, what are you doing here?" I asked as I tried and failed to sit up.
"I'm here to help you get ready for your date," she said as she hurried over and helped me sit up.
"What do you mean?" I asked as I eyed the bag in her hand nervously.
"I figured I could help you get dressed and do your hair and make-up," she said.
"That is really nice of you, but I don't really have anything to wear," I admitted.
"It's a good thing I brought you something to wear then," she said with a smile as she held up the bag.
I watched as she pulled out a cream colored sweater and a pair of dark blue skinny jeans.
"You didn't have to do this," I said.
"Nonsense," she said, "after what you have been through, you deserve a little pampering."
"Well, thank you," I replied.
"You are very welcome," she replied.
I was slightly embarrassed when Alice helped me change, but she wasn't fazed by it. The sweater fit over my sling perfectly and the jeans fit me wonderfully.
"How did you know what sizes to get?" I asked.
"It's a gift," Alice replied as she went to work on my make-up.
Thankfully she kept my make-up light and natural, and once she was done with that she moved on to my hair. I sat in my desk chair as she curled my hair and I was actually happy with the big bouncy curls.
"Alright, let's go" she said when she was finally done.
"What?" I asked, confused.
"I'm going to take you to Edward," she replied.
"Okay" I said as I slipped on a pair of beige flats. We walked down the stairs and paused to say a quick goodbye to my mom. When we walked outside I saw a silver Volvo sitting in my driveway.
"Nice car," I said as we as we got settled.
"It's Edward's," she said as she backed out.
"That's right, I've seen him driving it at school," I said.
"Yeah, well since he can't drive right now he is letting me use it," she explained.
Alice drove recklessly fast and we got to the Cullen's house in no time. Alice parked in the garage and ushered me into the house.
We walked through the kitchen and into the dining room and when we got in there I froze. Edward was sitting at the table; he looked amazing in his black button down shirt, and there were candles everywhere. Alice quickly departed and I made my way over to Edward.
"Hi," he said quietly, "you look beautiful."
"Thank you," I replied as I sat down next to Edward, "This is amazing."
"You like it?" he asked.
"I love it," I replied.
"Well, after what happened at lunch the other day, I figured going out wouldn't be the greatest idea," Edward explained.
"No probably not," I agreed.
"I thought this would be a good way to start back slowly," Edward said.
"It's perfect," I said as I took his hand and gave it a squeeze.
"I'm glad you like it," Edward said with a smile as she pulled the lids off the plates in front of us.
Once the lids were gone, the aroma of the lasagna that was sitting plates hit my nose and made my mouth water.
"It looks delicious," I said as I picked up my fork.
"Thanks, I wish I could take credit for it but Esme made it," Edward said.
"That was nice of her," I said as I took a bite.
"Yeah, since cooking is a slight challenge for me right now, she was happy to do it," Edward said and took a bite of his own.
"You cook?" I asked.
"Yep, but I can't really reach anything while I am in the wheelchair," Edward said and I noticed a hint of frustration in his tone.
"I understand your frustration," I said, "I love to cook but I can't do it one-handed."
"How about we make a deal?" Edward said as he picked up his water glass and held it out to me, "When we are both healed we can cook together."
"Deal," I agreed as I clinked my glass with his.
We were quiet for a while as we dined on our amazing meal of lasagna, bread, and salad.
"So did you have any dreams last night?" Edward asked when we were finishing up.
"Actually, no," I said, "I think my excitement about today outweighed everything else."
"Really?" Edward asked looking pleased.
"Yeah," I admitted as a blush crept onto my face and I looked down to hide my embarrassment.
"Hey," Edward said as his fingers gently lifted my chin up so I would meet his gaze, "Don't be embarrassed, I am glad you were excited to see me, I was excited too."
"Really?" I asked in surprise.
"Really," Edward said quietly as he leaned in and pressed his lips to mine.
The kiss started out gently and sweet but soon turned heated and frenzied. My good arm went around Edward's heck as I tried to pull him closer and his arms went around my waist. When finally pulled away we were both gasping for breath.
"That was…" I started as I attempted to catch my breath.
"Yeah," Edward finished with a smile as he tucked a lose curl behind my ear.
"So…" I said trying to break the tension that had now taken over the room, "what's for desert?"
Edward laughed, really laughed, it was a glorious sound, and caused me to start laughing.
"Hold on," Edward said once he finally got himself under control.
I watched as rolled out of the room, he rolled back in few minutes later with two plates on his lap. Edward placed one plate in front of me and the other in front of himself. There was warm apple crisp on both of our plates and looked just as amazing as the lasagna.
"Esme again?" I asked.
"Yeah," Edward said as we began to eat.
The apple crisp was delicious and we were done I was stuffed. I helped Edward clear the table and bring the dishes into the kitchen. Esme came in while we were putting the dishes in the sink.
"I'll take care of that, you guys don't need to worry about it," she said.
"Are you sure?" I asked feeling guilty.
"Yes Bella," she said with a smile as put her arm around me, "Did you guys have a nice dinner?"
"Yes, it was delicious," I said, "thank you so much."
"It was my pleasure," she said.
Edward and I headed into the living room where we flipped on the T.V. and snuggled on the couch. A while later I reluctantly pulled away because it was getting late and I knew I should be heading home.
I kissed Edward goodbye and followed Esme out to the garage so she could take me home. Once I was home I thanked Esme again and hurried inside. My parents were in the living room watching T.V when I walked in.
"Hi honey," my mom said, "did you have a good time?"
"Yeah, we had dinner at his house and watched some T.V.," I said, "I'm kind of tired though, so I think I am going to head up to bed."
"Actually Bells, there is something we need to talk to you about," my dad said.
"Okay," I said nervously as I came to sit on the couch, "What is going on?"
"Bella," my mom said as held my good hand in her own, "I am going home to Arizona on Monday."
