I don't own Twilight!

Farewell

"What?" I asked with a mixture of hurt and confusion.

"I'm going home on Monday," my mom said.

"But…but, I need you here," I stammered as I tried to keep my emotions under control.

"Bella, trust me, I don't want to leave. But I have to get back to my job and Phil," my mom explained as she took my hand "You are going to be fine honey, you are getting stronger every day, and you have Edward and your dad here to help you. If something bad happens, Charlie will call me and I will be on the first plane back to Forks, okay?"

"Okay," I replied quietly as I pulled my hand away and stood to go upstairs, "I'm going to go to bed."

"Alright, good night sweetheart," my mom said.

"Night Bells," Charlie added.

"Good night," I mumbled before quickly going up stairs. As soon I was safely in my room I pulled out my phone and dialed Edward's number.

"Hi Bella," he said happily when he answered the phone.

"Hey," I replied as I tried to hold back my tears.

"Bella, what is it? What is wrong?" Edward asked as he picked up on my distress.

"My…my mom is…is leaving," I said stammered as the tears fell and a lump formed in my throat.

"What do you mean?" Edward asked.

"She… she is going back to Arizona," I explained.

"Oh Bella, I am so sorry," Edward said sympathetically.

"I knew she would have to go back sometime, but I didn't think it would be so soon," I said laid back on my pillow and tried to compose myself.

"I know it's hard," Edward said, "but it will be okay."

"I just feel like I am losing everyone," I said as a fresh wave of tears hit, "First Angela, and now my mom."

"Bella, listen to me," Edward said, "You are not losing everyone. You still have your dad, and you still have me. I am not going anywhere."

"Promise?" I whimpered.

"I promise," Edward said.

"Thank you," I replied and sighed, "I know my mom leaving isn't the same as Angela, but it hurts just the same."

"It's going to be okay," Edward assured me, "You have my family too, you know."

"I know," I replied, "I am so grateful for everything they have done."

"They care about you," Edward said.

"I care about them a lot too," I said.

"When is your mom leaving?" Edward asked.

"Monday," I replied, "I know she has to get back to her job and to Phil, but it still sucks."

"What does she do?" Edward asked, and I knew he was talking about her job.

"She is a Kindergarten teacher," I replied.

"I bet she is good at that," Edward said, and I could hear the smile in his voice. It made me smile.

"She is," I agreed, "I bet her kids miss her."

"What is Phil like?" Edward asked, "I didn't really get to meet him when he was here."

"Phil's really nice, he is a little young for my mom though," I admitted.

"They're happy together though, right?" Edward asked.

"Yes, but Phil is a baseball player and he travels a lot, so it's kind of hard," I explained.

"Is he good?" Edward asked, "Would I have heard of him?"

"I doubt it, he is strictly minor league," I said.

"Gotcha," Edward replied, "Can I ask you a question?"

"Sure," I replied.

"It's kind of personal, so you don't have to answer if you don't want to," Edward said.

"Just ask, Edward," I said.

"Why didn't things work out with your parents?"

"They got married when they were really young and had me shortly after that. My mom's not good at settling and she didn't like being in a town so small, but my dad was born and raised here and wasn't going to leave. My mom eventually had enough, so she left when I was little and took me with her. I stayed with her for a while but then ended up coming back to live with my dad."

"Wow, that is sad," Edward said.

"Yeah, I feel really bad for my dad because even after all these years I can tell he still in love with my mom," I said.

"It must have been hard for him when Phil was here," Edward said.

"Yeah, it was super awkward when the three of them were in the same room together," I said.

"I bet," Edward replied, "What made you come back to Forks to live with Charlie?"

"I missed Forks," I explained, "I don't do well in desert heat."

"Well, for what it's worth, I am glad you came back," Edward said.

"Me too," I replied as I tried to fight off a yawn.

"You're tired," Edward said.

"Am not," I argued as I fought off another yawn.

"Liar," Edward said.

"Ok, maybe a little," I admitted.

"Goodnight Bella," Edward said.

"Wait, Edward, I want to thank you," I said.

"For what?" Edward asked.

"Talking to me and making me feel better," I said.

"Always," Edward replied.

"Night, Edward," I said.

"Good night Bella," Edward replied before hanging up.

I put my phone on my nightstand before rolling back over and pulling the covers around me. I was still dressed, but I was too tired to get up and try to put on my pajamas so I fell asleep fully clothed.

I fell asleep quickly, but woke a short time later after having a nightmare about my mom rushing into the school to save me and getting shot in the process. I woke up panting and gasping for breath. It took awhile for me to calm myself, but once I did I managed to slip back into sleep. Thankfully, the nightmares stayed away and instead I dreamed of Edward. Edward and I were on a beach watching the sun set; he had his arms around me and felt warm and safe.

Instead of fighting for breath I awoke with a smile on my face.

I got up and pulled a sweater on before heading downstairs. I found my parents eating breakfast together in the kitchen.

"Morning Bella," my mom said.

"Morning mom," I replied, "I am sorry about last night; you just kind of caught me off guard."

"Oh, Bella you have nothing to apologize for," my mom said, "You have every right to be upset."

"No, I understand that you need to get to your life," I replied.

"Are you sure you are okay?" my mom asked, "I can stay little longer if you need me too."

"No, it's okay," I said.

"Well, alright then," my mom said. I nodded and we all ate breakfast together as a family. I spent the rest of the day with my mom, having girl time and watching movies.

The next morning came too soon, and before I knew it my dad and I were taking my mom to the airport. When we got to the unloading zone we all piled out the car. My dad went to get my mom's bags out the trunk while my mom pulled me into her arms.

"Oh Bella, I love you so much," she said.

"I love you too Mom," I said as I wrapped my good arm around her.

"You are so strong and so brave," my mom said, "I know you are going to be okay."

I nodded as I felt tears in my eyes.

"If you need anything you just call," my mom said, "I'm on the next plane back here if you need me, okay?"

"Okay," I replied as I gave her one last squeeze.

"Bye, baby," my mom said and kissed my cheek.

"Bye, Mom," I replied.

I watched as my parents shared a brief, awkward hug and waved one last time before I climbed back into the car.

"Are you alright Bells?" my dad asked as he drove.

"I guess," I replied.

"You know I am here if you need anything, right?" my dad asked he took one hand of the wheel and squeezed my good hand.

"I know," I replied, "I love you, Dad."

"I love you too Bells," my dad replied as he drove us back to our now much quieter home.
