A week later, the drama from the trial had settled down. As I sat on my couch with my head resting comfortably on Edward's shoulder, I thought about what I wanted to do, and I knew it was best to get Edward on board before I brought the idea to Charlie. I knew Charlie wasn't going to approve of what I wanted to do, and I was hoping Edward could help me convince him.

"Edward," I said breaking our comfortable silence.

"Yeah," he replied.

"There is something I want to do. Something I need to do. And I really want you with me when I do it," I explained.

"What is it?" Edward asked as he shifted so he could see me. Once he was facing me, I looked him in the eye, took a deep breath, and let it out.

"I want to go see Mike."

"What?" Edward asked in surprise, "Why?"

"I don't know, I can't really explain it," I said as I tried to sort out my thought process. "I just think talking to him might help me come to terms with things and give me some closure."

"Do you really think it will help?" Edward asked.

"Yes, I just… Sometimes I feel like I am drowning, and I think this will give me the final push to start putting this behind me. I know it will never totally be behind me, but this could be a really good start."

"Okay," Edward said as he picked up my hand and gave it a squeeze.

"Okay, just like that?" I asked, incredulously.

"Yes," Edward said with a small smile, "If this is something you feel like you truly need, then of course I'll support you and be there with you."

"Thank you," I said, and let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.

"How, exactly, were you planning to get Charlie's okay on this?" Edward asked.

"Yeah, I don't know," I said as I thought of my dad, who was currently taking my mom to the airport. "I was hoping you could help me with that."

"Hopefully if we tell him that this is something we need to do, he will understand," Edward said.

"We?" I asked with a smile.

"Yes, we," Edward said, "Now that you have brought it up, I think this is something I need to do, too."

"Okay" I replied.

"Okay, just like that?" Edward asked with a smirk.

"Ha, ha," I replied as I leaned in to capture his lips with mine. When we pulled apart I let my forehead rest on Edward's as I tried to calm my breathing and my racing heart.

"Bella," Edward said breathlessly as he tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear.

"Yeah," I replied.

"I love you," he whispered. I lifted my head and looked into his eyes. I could see the seriousness behind what he said, and I brought my hand up to rest it on his cheek.

"I love you too," I said and his lips found my again. We forced apart again, but this time it wasn't from lack of breath but the clearing of a throat.

"Break it up you two," Charlie said from the doorway. Edward and I jumped apart and I felt my face turn bright red. I hesitantly looked at Charlie and noticed he looked less than pleased at catching us making out. It was clear that Edward and I had our work cut out for us, because this was not a good start in getting Charlie to let us visit Mike.

"Sorry Dad," I said sheepishly.

"Sorry Charlie," Edward added.

"How did it go, dropping mom off?" I asked, hoping to change the subject.

"Nice subject change," Charlie said with a smirk, making it clear that he knew exactly what I was doing, "Dropping off your mother was fine."

"That's good," I said and bit my lip nervously, as I tried to work up to the courage to bring up the subject of Mike.

"What's going on?" Charlie asked as he picked up on the tension.

"Dad, Edward and I have something we want to talk to you about," I said as picked up Edward's hand and held it in mine.

"Oh God, Bella. You aren't pregnant, are you?" Charlie asked.

"What?" I asked in shock, "No, of course not."

"Did you ask her to marry you?" Charlie asked as he turned his stern gaze to Edward.

"No, sir," Edward said.

"Alright," Charlie said with a sigh, "Then tell me what is going on."

"Well, the thing is, Edward and I were talking, and we want to go see Mike," I said.

"Bella, you can't be serious," Charlie said.

"She, well we, are completely serious," Edward said, "The trial didn't bring us as much closure as we wanted, and we think that talking to Mike would really help us start to put this behind us." Charlie looked at me and then at Edward, and I knew he could see how serious we were about this when he sighed and nodded.

"If you really need to do this then I will help you," Charlie said, "But Edward, you need to ask your parents first."

"I will," Edward said.

"Also," Charlie continued, "I will be in the room with you the whole time you are talking to Mike."

"Okay," I agreed, because honestly I knew having Charlie there would make me feel better.

"Alright," Charlie said, "I will make some calls and see if I can set a visit."

"Thank you, Dad," I said, and walked over to him to wrap me arms around him.

"Thank you, Charlie," Edward said. As soon as my dad left the room I flopped back down on the couch next to Edward and let my head rest on his shoulder. I flipped on the TV and we watched a mindless sitcom as Charlie talked on the phone.

"Okay," Charlie said when he walked back in the room a few minutes later, "I set up a visit for next weekend."

"Okay," I said.

"The Washington State Penitentiary where is Mike is being held is in Walla Walla," Charlie explained, "That is about four and half hours from here, so Edward I think it would be best of your parents came with us."

"I will talk to them when I get home," Edward promised.

"Great," Charlie said, "You guys have another hour and then it will be time for me take Edward home."

"Alright," I said before Charlie smiled and left the room.

"So are we really going to do this?" I asked.

"We are," Edward said instantly knowing I was referring to visiting Mike.

"I really hope this will help us," I said as Edward put his arm around me and held me close.

"Me, too," he said and kissed the top of my head, "Me, too."
