Winning their little wager wasn't surprising to Severus.

What was surprising was when he leaned over and took a kiss as his prize for both of them.

Hermione had initially leaned into the kiss without thinking, just going with her instincts. It wasn't long until she froze as she realized who she was kissing. She quickly pulled away, a hand going to her lips in shock as she watched him across from her. This was her professor! No matter how young he was at the moment!

She turned and fled up the stairs as Mrs. Weaslry entered the room, watching the young girl go in confusion, glancing at an equally bewildered Severus. He hadn't meant to scare her away... He wasn't even sure if he had meant to kiss her in the first place. It had just kind of happened. And then she had kissed him back, only to run away a moment alter.

"Now I have to ask what you did to upset Hermione, Severus. She's not known for overreacting to little things you know," the woman said quietly, folding her arms across her chest as she watched him closely. She would not put up with hurt feelings from either party if it had been done intentionally. She had only intended on checking up on the two and maybe offering them a snack. Instead, she had come in to find the girl that she considered like another daughter to her running up the stairs and away from her other house guest.

Severus turned in surprise to see Mrs. Weasley standing in the doorway and his jaw worked for a moment to come up with an answer, no sound coming out. "I... I kissed her and then she ran off," he said quietly after a moment, looking thoroughly confused at this point. "I didn't mean to upset her."

Mrs. Weasley paused in surprise at the sudden news and resisted the urge to smile at her prediction about the two. She had neglected to let herself thing about the fact that they would be separated by time except for the time that Arthur had pointed it out to him. She carefully went to sit down beside him quietly, looking over him for a moment. "Severus, I think you need to realize what she just thought of," she said gently. "Because, technically, she just kissed her professor."

Severus looked surprised at her reasoning, going to explain that he was only a student when he realized what she meant. In this time, he had become a professor to the girl that he had just kissed.

"Bloody hell."

Up in her room, Hermione was pacing quietly with a hand at her lips, completely shocked. She had just been kissed. By none other than Severus Snape! She had just been kissed by her professor! She'd never be able to face his adult self when she went back to school because now she'd actually kissed him! It was going to be awful, and she still had to go through the rest of this and be young Severus' partner. It wasn't like she could go back to school and leave him on his own to finish his school work, but she also couldn't go back down there and risk it happening again...

Even if she had rather liked it.

She cursed softly and shook her head, trying to push it from her mind. She couldn't be enjoying kissing her own professor! No matter if they were the same age at the moment. That just wasn't fair!

She bit her lip and finally plopped down on her bed, closing her eyes as she tried to figure out what to do now. She couldn't just go back downstairs and pretend nothing had happened... That would be cruel. He'd just kissed her, and she'd kissed him back. What was one supposed to do when they kissed a younger version of their professor?

She paused and then giggled quietly despite herself at the thought. How many people even had the chance to think that? Time travel like Severus had done was rarely possible, but he had to have gotten home if her current professor was still here.

The worst part of all of this was that she had to figure out her own feelings before she could even confront Severus about it. She sighed as she flopped back on her bed, covering her eyes with her arm as she tried to think.

Over an hour later, Severus quietly made his way upstairs and knocked lightly on her door, nervous about what she would do now that they had kissed. "Hermione?" he called quietly. "Can we talk? Or can I talk and you listen?" He didn't want the door slammed in his face, but walking in uninvited might get worse done to him by a witch that he had a steadily growing respect for...

Mrs. Weasley had helped him figure out why she may have run away besides disgust, but that was the worry in his stomach was that she didn't want anything to do with him now.

It was several minutes before he even got a hint that Hermione was on the other side of the door still, and he was starting to get worried that she would just ignore him until he went away.

Then the door swung open.

Severus was only able to let out a soft sigh of relief before Hermione started talking. "Look, Severus," she began before he could get a word in. She needed to get this all out before she let him talk. "I didn't mean to run away. If you asked any of my friends, they'd tell you that I don't run away from much. You just surprised me... And then I realized that I'd have to go back to Hogwarts at some point, and you, well, older you, will know that we kissed. The kiss wasn't bad you know, but we've only known each other for a few weeks and that's moving kind of fast for me." Even if she was starting to like him more than she probably should. "I'm not trying to turn you away, but... Oh I don't know how to say it." She didn't want to turn him down. Not when she was realizing how sweet the other boy was, especially compared to his older and more prickly self.

Severus couldn't bring himself to interrupt her speech, waiting quietly as he felt his mask that he usually kept up around people slipping back into place. He wasn't going to be embarrassed by her just because he had made the apparent mistake of kissing her. His lips formed a thin line until she stopped speaking. "Fine. Just forget it, Granger," he snapped shortly. Better to be rejected now than later.

With that, he turned and stalked away furiously feeling betrayed.
