So, I know I haven't been really updating this story, had a bit of a writers block and all. But, as promised, another chappie to sate everyone's continued interest. And once again thank you all lovely readers on your continued support and reviews, I do hope I don't disappoint. So, without further ado...
There was no way in hell she was going into that classroom, Diana thinks as she peers outside of the room from a distance. A frown on her face as she sees girls crowd Bruce mercilessly as he struggles to enter home economics.
She did promise she would be there and she couldn't well afford to miss class, she wouldn't settle for low marks. She would laugh at his situation if she only had to witness it, but, sadly she was to be a part of it.
Life was cruel sometimes, she wondered if by the end of the semester this would continue to be this way. Sooner or later people had to lose interest right? I mean it was only natural for people to want to take a closer look at something that was so rare, like an animal on the verge of extinction. That's exactly what Bruce was like.
An exotic animal on display.
She chuckles a little at her musing before she feels something soft yet hard collide with her. She falls none to gracefully, her knees and elbows rubbing harshly on the ground as she feels the pinpricks of a dull pain where gravel met opened skin. Thank the stars for her quick thinking, as her reflexes kicked in before she fell. The action propelling her on her knees and hands.
She looks up irritated, ready to assault the idiot who was careless enough to not watch where they were going," Are you kidding me?" She starts as she meets familiar blue eyes.
"Trevor!" She grits, her tone a little less annoyed but still far from forgiving.
"Ah- sorry ...Diana. I was trying to catch the baseball-" He tries, his eyes widening the moment his eyes land on her. Being the first one to get up he immediately goes to her and offers his hand.
She ignores his hand as she pulls herself up, she wasn't too happy with him lately,
"Forget it. Just watch where your going next time." Diana says as her eyes do a quick scan on her legs and arms. Her jeans were a little dirty now, little dots of blood appeared where jagged lines were on her forearms.
She groaned lightly, her white shirt was spotted with brown from the dirt. She tried dusting as much dirt as she could from her shirt, the act pointless considering it was white.
This really was a shitty morning.
"Let me replace your shirt-" Trevor tries again, his gaze apprehensive.
"No, it's really okay. It's fine the way it is, I'll just dab it with water." She says, brushing off his offer.
"It's a white top, water will only make it see-through." He says, a smile on his face she considered out of place at the current moment," Unless, you plan on flashing everyone at school?"
The stupid smile remained on his face as she scowled even deeper at him," Well, then I guess a dirty shirt will have to do, I don't want to give anyone any ideas." She snaps at him, her fixation on leaving him there as she stalks away annoyed.
"Ah-wait. I have a spare shirt I use for baseball. I don't mind lending it to you, I just washed it yesterday so it's clean." He calls off after her, a hand in the air.
She stops walking, the offer tempting considering her options. She grumbles, she could just wear a dirty shirt to school...maybe the school would allow her to go home and change. Maybe she could just beat Trevor senseless and get expelled for a few days...
She turns to glance at him, her eyes narrowed as he looked clueless of her inner turmoil. The fool really believed everything was still fine between them...or maybe he knew that if she borrowed his shirt i.e. accidentally lost it or possibly burned it at the end of the day, she would forgive him for his generous offer.
Ha! As if she would...she was grinded so badly by Bruce because of him.
The school bell rung, signaling the end of lunch and the start of home economics for her. It seemed she had a time limit to decide, unfortunately she promised Bruce she would be there with him, so that would mean she had no choice but to take his offer.
She sighs.
She wasn't in home economics. He was left alone in a class that was filled with many girls...girls that wouldn't stop staring at him as he tried focusing his attention on the board. More specifically, the girl next to him was unnerving as she kept rubbing herself accidentally over his sides. The only thing he could do was grit his teeth until someone noticed.
Wasn't there a rule about personal space? More importantly, didn't the teacher care at all about the lack of attention her students were giving her? He looks at the teacher, hoping to somehow get her attention and ask for her help telepathically. The teacher was reading a magazine in her desk, apparently there was 7 minutes given after lunch for students to settle in class.
They were currently in minute 5...
He swallows as he again feels the girl brush herself accidentally across his side. Where was Diana? He thinks as he tries to scoot closer to the edge of his seat, the action making the girl pout as she scooted closer in her seat and closer to Bruce who was already sitting on the edge of his seat with a leg on open air.
This was all Diana's fault, she promised she wouldn't skip the class. She was supposed to be sitting in the seat next to him, not the girl who kept constantly trying to get his attention.
"Alright. Enough chit chatter, I believe we have a new student today." The teacher chimes in, signaling the start of class and the end of the 7 minutes of hell. The teacher looked young, a set of blonde hair with blue eyes and square glasses, she had a bored look on her face as she stood in front of her class.
The teacher grabs a white plastic rod the size of a 12 inch ruler and points it at her students," Now, let me see-ah you?" She points at the rod at Bruce who stares at her weirdly," You're my new student. " She clarifies.
"Yes I am. My name is Bruce Wayne." Bruce says with a charming smile, something all the girls in class swooned for as the teacher gave an unimpressed look.
"The Wayne I've heard all morning about, interesting, and I don't doubt that you got stuck with this class because there weren't any of the other's left. You weren't here on the first day of class so I'll briefly mention what's going to happen this year, more importantly on what's happening this coming Monday." The teacher says with a slight monotone voice before clearing it.
"My name is Clarice Peterson, I teach several classes at this school but I've been told to start using a more effective approach to the way I teach, a more physical-" Ms. Peterson walks around the front of the class, the rod still in her hand as she lightly taps it into the other,"- hands on sort of learning. So, the first assignment is a baby kitten."
Ms. Peterson pauses with a raised eyebrow, waiting for an interruption he guesses her students gave her when she previously first announced the news, but he didn't have an issue with raising a cat.
"Good no complaints. Now, that's something you should all learn." Ms. Peterson gives a pointed look to her students as she fixes her glasses up on her nose, she was terribly pretty, with a small nose and pink rosy cheeks, her pale skin in contrast with her pink knee-length skirt and white camisole, her blonde hair tied in a neat chignon. She had the sexy home economics teacher look, that sinful look most boys his age and older men dreamt about.
Of course, he wasn't like most boys.
"Now, as I've stated before, this is to help out one of the many animal shelter's located here in Metropolis, voluntary help is scarce so now you-" she stresses with a even tone "-will fill in the gap. Hopefully to set an example, a positive one. The kitten's all have had their medical shots and have been cleaned well enough for you all to begin soon enough.
Now, who can tell me why the usual egg and mechanical baby dolls are not as effective?" Ms. Peterson asks.
Someone behind him raises their hand as the teacher points past him," Yes Ms. Harris?"
"Because they're not actual live experiences. An egg can be placed in a fridge and left there without needing proper care while mechanical dolls, even with advanced technology cannot give you more than they're programmed to do." The girl says in a small tone.
"Yes thank you Ms. Harris, 10 points for you. Now, premeditation in a situation is not very helpful when it comes to real life problems. You have to be placed out of your comfort zone to fully know how capable and ready you are to deal with the said problem, and I believe raising a kitten is appropriate, which is in a good enough stage and level for you all. Children are capable of raising one with enough guidance and I expect the same from you." Ms. Peterson grabs a marker and starts writing on the white board as she heads towards her laptop on her desk.
"Ms. Peterson?" A students asks," What will happen to the kitten's once we're finished with the assignment?"
"Ah, finally someone asks me that. I've been waiting for that one all week. Well, there will be a-" Ms. Peterson starts before she is interrupted by the opening of the classroom door. All eyes in the room turn to the person by the door.
"Ms. Prince good to have you join us. I assume you have a slip with a reason as to why you're late to my class?" Ms. Peterson asks airily.
"I do." Diana says as she hands the teacher a light blue slip, her gaze fixed on Ms. Peterson as she had a none to happy look on her face.
Ms. Peterson scrutinizes the note before nodding," Alright, take a seat and pull out a paper and pen for notes." She says as she places the slip on her desk.
Bruce immediately noticed Diana wearing a baseball jersey two times her size as she quietly walked past him and into the empty seat with the girl who answered Ms. Peterson's question earlier. He could have sworn she wasn't wearing that when he talked to her this morning.
"Before we begin taking notes, Ms. Berry, you asked what will happen to the kittens once the assignment is finished. Well, there will be a fair happening here during the last week of classes, and during that time the kitten's will be given out and placed into proper homes. The one's who don't are placed and sold at local pet shops. Anymore questions?" Ms. Peterson asks.
"Are we allowed to keep the cat's?" A students asks.
"Yes you are allowed to keep the one you raise if you decide you want them after the project is finished. And no you are not allowed to trade them, pictures will be taken every 2 weeks on the progress of your cat-" the teacher eyes the students carefully," the necessary provisions will be provided by the shelter until the last date.
Now, more questions can be asked if we have enough time after note taking and lecture." Ms. Peterson says as she returns to her desk and presses a key on her laptop, starting the projector on the board as she lightly taps her screen and opens a file.
Bruce had an urge to turn around and speak to Diana, but couldn't for fear of the girl next to him. He also wanted to copy down the notes his teacher placed on the projector for him, but again the girl next to him kept distracting him.
Seriously? Did anyone even notice what was happening?
"Ms. Clive?" Ms. Peterson suddenly calls out, her glasses mirroring the projector as she stared expectantly towards his seat.
The girl next to him jumps up from her previous position, which was making googley eyes at him while he squirmed in his seat," Yes, Ms. Peterson?" The girl says, her tone girlish.
"I don't see a paper and pen on your desk. Is there a reason why that is?" Ms. Peterson asks.
"Ah, yes I was just asking Bruce for some." The girl, Clive says, her doe like brown eyes staring at him as he pulls up his satchel and takes out a pen and paper for her. all the while having the entire class stare at him. He wondered if Diana was watching, no doubt trying to hold in her laughter.
"Thank you Mr. Wayne. Although I do expect you Ms. Clive to show up with the essentials from now on, it's not the first day of school anymore." Ms. Peterson chastises lightly.
"Yes Ms. Peterson." The Clive girl says absentmindedly as she looks at the pen and paper he handed to her like a holy object.
Bruce frowned, why did he get the feeling that she already had paper and pen in her bag and just wanted or rather forced him to give her some of his.
Diana POV
Girls were crazy at this school. She couldn't believe the lengths some of these people went to just to get close to Bruce, or in this case, to get a piece of him.
Diana had her mouth slightly open from the sheer surprise she witnessed in front of her... she was so going to tease Bruce mercilessly about this all day. It was gold she was witnessing and she had a feeling this wouldn't end any time soon.
Her lips formed into a wide smile as she imagined all the things she could say to him. She inwardly sighs, she would tell Lois about this, she was one of the few girls in the school who didn't fawn over Bruce. Oh, it was definitely worth a good laugh.
But, then she looks down at her shirt and her sour mood returned like a tidal wave.
Flashback: School gym locker room
"Ah, you know I don't even know why you haven't talked to me for weeks?" Trevor says as he stands outside the locker room door, his back turned towards Diana as she changed quietly. His nervous stance obvious from her view.
"You know why Trevor." Comes Diana's reply.
"Okay maybe I do. But, I just thought you were interested in me. I guess I just assumed you also wanted something more." He says a little sadly as he crossed his arms and looked at his shoes.
She didn't know how to approach this, she didn't want to talk about it.
"We were fine just being friends. I never gave you a reason to even see me that way. You're a nice guy, but I just don't want to be with someone right now." Diana says gently.
"It's kind of hard not to notice you. All you have to do is stand out there, even in my oversized shirt and you'd still look like a goddess to me." Trevor says, his voice soft.
Diana blushed, she wasn't used to someone praising her so highly," Trevor..."
He shakes his head, "I get it. But, you shouldn't... you know not get into a relationship because of me. Maybe friends is all you'll let us be. But, I'm there if you...whenever you need me." He finishes reluctantly.
She stays silent as her anger diminishes altogether for him, she wasn't truly mad at him. She just didn't like that their friendship was on the line, she valued all the friends she had. She only ever had Bruce as her friend, and he had her. Growing up in a wealthy family like theirs came with the territory of always keeping a vigilant eye out for those who meant harm to them.
Their were many enemies the Wayne's and Princes' developed over the years. Companies who rivaled them, people who were fired, people who were denied for one reason or another, the list went on and on.
"I forgave you a while back you know." Diana interrupts her train of thought as she directs her gaze at his back. " Just seeing you again...I just don't see you that way. I see you more like a brother."
Ouch.
She saw the way he flinched momentarily at her words and immediately tried to back peddle," I don't have many friends and still want to be yours..."
He felt the butterflies in his stomach do a summersault at her choice of words, he really was grasping at straws," I do too." He swallows before turning, already knowing she changed her shirt," You don't think it'll be awkward between us?" he asks as he looks at Diana with his shirt on.
She fidgets nervously with the hems of his shirt, "I think it will be awkward if we make it that way. Besides it was just a little peck on the mouth." She tucks in the shirt into her slim jeans, "Thanks for the shirt." She mumbles.
He runs a nervous hand through his hair, just a kiss, he thinks, " Yeah. I owe it to you. Uh you don't have to return that anytime soon, I have spares." He lifts up his wristwatch," You're already 10 minutes late to your class. I'll walk you there." He offers.
"No, it's alright. You're late too, I don't want to make you anymore late." She says, wanting so badly just to leave the room and the awkwardness of their conversation.
The truth was that it was going to take a little longer for her to not feel so awkward around him. It wasn't so much the kiss, but the fact that now she knew how he felt about her.
"Alright. See you later?" He says as he starts to walk out of the room.
She nods as she follows a few seconds after him. Once out of the room she inhales then sighs. At least things weren't as bad as before.
Flashback end.
The school bell rung a few seconds after she recalled the flashback. The sound pulling her from her thoughts as she looked at her notes, crap, she only took a pages worth of notes.
She looked around the classroom for Bruce, noticing him making a quick exit. She would have to ask him later for his notes. She was putting away her notebook and pen in her bag when she noticed the girl who sat next to her fidgeting and with her bespectacled eyes shifting from her desk to Diana's.
Well, she wasn't completely looking at her, more like attempting to talk to her. The way her mouth kept closing and opening and body shifting before abruptly stopping.
Diana's eyebrows furrowed," Did you need something?" she asked nicely.
The girl squeaked before she looked at Diana with a startled look, Diana figured she didn't notice she had an audience," Ah, yes well...I-I noticed you didn't take any notes. You looked like you were spacing out so...so I don't mind lending you mine." The girl said, her big green eyes turned away from her.
"Oh, I already know someone who has them. I...thank you though." Diana says.
"Oh...oh alright." The girl says, her face reddening from embarrassment. The girl turns away and starts to head towards the classroom door before Diana calls out to her.
There was something about the way the girl reached out to her, Diana had seen her around the school, she was always by herself though. If not, she always saw her at the school library, where she sometimes frequented.
"You're in my science class right?" Diana asks.
The girl nods her head meekly as she hugged her books like a protective shield across her arms and chest.
"I kind of noticed you had high marks on the first tests, and I've seen you studying in the library-" Noticing the reluctant look the girl was giving her," I'm not stalking you or anything, It's just I heard the other students talking about the teacher assigning people into groups of two. So I'm kind of hoping you'd like to be my partner?" Diana says, hoping to get Tracy Harris as her lab partner.
"You want me as your partner?" Tracy asks, hey green eyes widening.
Diana nods, feeling her cheeks turn pink, she really hoped the girl didn't say no.
"I-yeah. I think that would be great." Tracy says, her ears and cheeks red.
"Ok great. We can meet for study sessions around the school or library whenever you're available." Diana says, her mouth forming into a wide smile," By the way, I'm Diana Prince."
"Tracy Harris. I've-"
They get interrupted when someone walks back into the classroom. It was Bruce with an inquisitive look on his face.
"Ah forgot something. Did any of you see a black pen with red engraved letters on it?" He asks, his gaze going from Diana's to Tracy's.
They shake their heads, Diana already knowing Bruce wasn't really looking for pen, he most likely was waiting for her at the door but then noticed she never left the classroom. She smirked," I can help you ask around for it?"
"Alright." Bruce says.
"Well, I'll see you later." Tracy says as she leaves out of the classroom and passed Bruce.
"Yeah." Diana calls out with a wave as she turns to face Bruce, "So, your pen huh?" Diana mocks as she crosses her arms.
Bruce shrugs," I am missing one. The girl, Clive, she took it."
Diana snorts," Oh I was there. Have anything you want to say to me? Any secret lovers you want to tell me about?" Diana says in a sugary tone.
"Not as many as you do." He nudges his face towards Diana's shirt," What happened to the shirt you were wearing this morning?"
Diana uncrosses her arms, her playful smile gone," About that...umm well someone sort of bumped into me on the way to class and my shirt got dirty. Because you know, it was white so obviously that's not a color you want to rub into dirt-" At Bruce's unimpressed look she clears her throat, "Long story short he let me borrow this." She lightly pulls the shirt from it's tucked in position.
She looks at him, hoping he doesn't ask any more questions.
He was slightly suspicious about Diana's odd behavior. What did it matter if someone lent her a shirt? It's not like he was going to chew someone's head off because they bumped into her on accident. She acted as if he would hurt someone or blow up at her for telling him that.
"Okay." He says uneasily.
"Oh, don't give me that face. I always have to be careful about what I tell you." Diana says.
"What?! since when?" Bruce asks, a look of incredulity on his face.
"Um, remember 8th grade? You punched Peter for supposedly grabbing my butt in gym class?" Diana clarifies.
"He did." Bruce exclaims," I saw him do it but you thought he just rubbed up against you on accident." Bruce says, emphasizing the last part with his fingers.
"What about Keith and Leon from your 16th birthday party?"
"I heard them talking about groping you..." he stops, his cheeks flushing.
"Where?" Diana smiles, it was rare to see Bruce blush about anything.
"You know...here," He points towards his chest, it's not that he was uncomfortable talking about a girls anatomy, only when it involved Diana did he become flummoxed," They were daring each other to see who got to...feel you up before the night was over." Bruce happily finishes.
"Now, Imagine if I told you about everything else that happened here you would punch just about every guy here." Diana says," You're like a caveman Bruce."
"I'm not-wait, it's happened here..at this school? when?" Bruce asks in all seriousness.
Diana throws up her hands in the air, she gave up, he was going to reel her in good for this one. It was all her fault too, she just had to say something. Bruce was like an overprotective watchdog who foamed at the mouth if someone of the opposite gender touched her in any way he deemed inappropriate.
She rolled her eyes at him.
"We're going to be late for the next class Bruce, c'mon." Diana says as she grabs Bruce by his arms and proceeds to pull him out of the classroom.
But, she still liked him the way he was.
So, let me know what you think eh? eh? *Wink* *Wink*
