While at Scanguards Sunny recognized the guy that tried to mug her. Oliver Ralston was not much different from the picture on his license. His hair was dark and ruffled, his eyes were piercing, his lips full and red. She had to admit he was attractive. Judging by his behavior she concluded that he might not recognize her. It was fine with her. He was probably some dumb kid who was in it for the thrill.
Forgetting about that night Sunny decided to go out. There was a popular club Sunny heard about and wanted to go see. She invited all of her available friends to meet her there. Dai was self-conscious about getting dressed up but Sunny and all of their friends managed to talk her into it.
At the club, Sunny was sipping her drink and rocking her head to the music. Dai and other friends, Sophia and Callie were sitting next to her with their drinks.
"How's the new job going?" Sophia asked Sunny and Dai.
"Good." replied Dai.
"Fun." said Sunny.
"Glad you're enjoying it, Dai." said Sophia. "And really, Sunny, how can you still want to clean? Being on all fours to scrub and polish those marble floors – ew! Just mentioning it makes my knees ache all over again."
"Cleaning is all I know. There is nothing else I would rather do." said Sunny.
"Don't you want to get an education? I didn't think I was going to like being in school but it's kind of fun." said Callie.
"I can read and write and count numbers. That's good enough for me." said Sunny.
Her friends laughed.
Dai touched Sunny's hand. "That guy has been staring at you all night."
Sunny looked at the direction Dai nodded towards. It was Oliver. Maybe he did remember her? This could be bad.
"Of course he's staring at me." said Sunny. She flipped her hair, playing it off.
Sophia and Callie followed their line of vision.
"He's okay," said Sophia with little interest.
"He's cute." said Callie. "Why don't you go talk to him, Sunny?"
"No." said Sunny. She couldn't tell her friends Oliver was the mugger. They were a protective bunch and would do something crazy to him.
"Come on, you never had a boyfriend. This can be a good experience for you." urged Callie.
Sunny thought of an excuse. "Will...I...I think he was looking at one of you. Not me."
"He is definitely looking at you." said Dai.
"You're so shy, Sunny. I'll take care of this." said Callie. She stood up and sailed through the crowd.
Sunny shot up from her seat and chased after her. "No, wait! Callie!"
"Hey, you!"
Oliver looked up. A hot girl with dark blonde hair with great legs was calling him. The girl came up to him.
"My friend thinks you're cute. Want to dance with her?" she asked him.
Standing next to Oliver, Thomas chuckled in amusement.
"She's super hot with a great ass." said the girl.
That was a good enough description for him. "Where?"
"She's coming." said the girl pointing behind her.
Oliver recognized the same girl from the parking lot. He gave her one of his charming smiles. She had large brown eyes with the face of an angel that was framed by long blonde hair that went passed her waist. She was almost as tall as him, the perfect height if their lips were to meet.
The first girl put her arm on her friend's shoulders and pulled her toward him. "He wants to dance with you."
The girl's eyes grew large. "What? No!"
The first girl didn't listen. "Dance with him." She pushed her friend at him.
Oliver caught her in his arms. "Are you okay?" When their skin touched he felt a shiver run down his spine and land on his groin. Her heart was beating in a rhythm that was like music to him. The smell of her blood made his mouth water just like...the girl that mugged him!
Shit!
She went through his wallet. She knew his name, what he looked like, and where he lived. Were they taunting him?
"You know what? Let's dance." said the girl, or should he say mugger. She grabbed his arm and dragged him through the crowd. Instead of stopping in the dance floor, she brought him to a corner to talk.
"Listen, I don't want to dance with you. It was my friend's idea." she said. "I remember you from that night."
"About that...I'm sorry." he said sincerely.
"How about we forget it happened?"
It was a good idea to him. "Yeah."
They made their deal and she disappeared into the crowd.
Oliver went back into the bar to tell Thomas they should call it a night. They separated. While walking in the street Oliver thought back to the girl. The memory of the girl's bouncing ass and how the dress hung to her body was unforgettable.
"Oliver!" said Blake. He ran to Oliver. "I need to see Samson. It's serious."
"What is it?"
"I can't tell you here. I have to tell Samson. Let's go."
Oliver gave in and called Samson's private cellphone. He was busy but Oliver managed to convince him to meet them. Oliver and Blake met Samson at his house. Samson led them to his office.
"I heard two guys - vampire guys - talking. They were looking for a...a person called Day Killer. They said their boss was going to rule the world once they find Day Killer." Blake told them. "You gotta find Day Killer first! Get Amaury! Get Zane! Gabriel! Get all the top vampires on it!"
Samson was calm and patient. "I'll have someone look into it." His cellphone rang. Caller ID showed it was Thomas. He excused himself to answered it.
"Eddie overheard some unknown vampires are asking around for a person name -"
"Day Killer." said Samson.
"How do you know?"
"The newcomers aren't being quiet about their pursuit. Blake overheard the news too. He and Oliver are in my office now."
"They are messing up a lot if Blake caught wind of it."
"Or that's what they want." Samson thought it was suspicious if a human like Blake got close enough to eavesdrop on two vampires without them knowing. "Where did Eddie hear this?"
"Near Scanguards."
"Give me a moment." Samson moved the cellphone from his mouth. He put Thomas on speaker."Blake, where did you hear this information at?"
"Near Scanguards." Blake replied.
"The newcomers are spreading the name Day Killer out. They probably think we have him and want us to find him for them." said Samson.
"But we don't know anyone by that name." said Thomas.
"It might be a code name he goes by?" said Oliver. "Day Killer sounds like the name of a vampire hunter from some old vampire movies."
Oliver watched a lot of vampire movies when he met Samson to get an idea on vampires. After spending time with Samson, he realized that the movies were all lies made by Hollywood.
"You think this Day Killer guy is a vampire hunter?" said Blake.
"Let's not jump to conclusions." Samson said. "Tell everyone to keep an ear out for Day Killer. Report all findings."
The next night, Sunny was on one of her assignments. After she finished cleaning her designated area she removed her gloves and gas mask and put them in the cart. She went into the hallway for fresh air. Oliver walked passed her. He halted and walked backwards until he got back to her. Both were surprised to see each other.
"Hi," he said.
"Hi," she said.
His eyes glide over her body. She was wearing her uniform, a jumpsuit. She had choices in color and she chose a light pink.
He was apprehensive. "Are you? Do you...I mean are you..."
"I'm working." she said.
"Oh...Oh! I'll be leaving you to your-" he coughed, "-work." He rushed away.
Sunny heard her coworkers calling her name. She went back to them and they filed into the van. While waiting to get dropped off she thought back to Oliver. It was too much of a coincidence to run into him so many times. Were the Fates trying to tell her something? Are they planning on setting her up with Oliver? The van stopped. She hopped out and went into her apartment. She showered and changed. Grabbing her car keys, she called Dai and invited her out to a local cafe. She had to talk this over with someone.
"What's wrong? I've never seen you so jumpy." said Dai.
"I keep running into this guy I don't want to see him." said Sunny.
"I have the same problem."
"Really? Who?"
"Mr. Bond."
Sunny cringed.
"I asked around. It turns out he does work at Scanguards as a guard in training."
"You two work together. It's normal to see him more than usual."
Dai signed. "I know."
"I don't work with my guy but I see him everywhere. I think the Fates are subtly telling me I should date Oliver - the guy."
"Just because of that you think he might be your soulmate? That's ridiculous. I see Blake all the time. Does that mean he is my soulmate too?"
Sunny knew how crazy it sounded but she could not help how she felt.
"If they are our soulmates then the Fates should make them appear right this instant."
Oliver went to talk to Vera to see if she had any information on Day Killer. He didn't imagine he would see the girl from the club there. She said she was working. She was a prostitute? Not that there was anything wrong with that. Some people would turn their nose at that type of profession but not him. Before meeting Samson, he was a street punk with an addiction to drugs. He understood how tough life was.
After Oliver spoke with Vera, she had nothing but said she'll look into it for him. Oliver thanked her and continued his search. He had to meet up with Blake in the streets to see what he had. Blake turned up empty handed. It was getting nowhere and it was frustrating for both men. They were desperate to proof themselves in what could be a crucial mission. Blake wanted to lash out at Oliver but was afraid he was going to bite him again. What prevented Oliver from criticizing Blake's lacking was his fear that he would develop the urge to bite him again. They walked the streets in silence, swallowing their irritations. As they had wished they received a lead in the form of a speeding car derailed from the road. It was coming their way. Oliver managed to dodge the car. He grabbed Blake by the collar and pulled him to safety. From the sidewalk, they landed inside of the cafe the car had crashed into and damaged.
"OH MY GOD!" screamed a woman from behind them.
Blake and Oliver turned their heads to see who was screaming. It was Oliver's mugger and her other friend. The larger woman was staring at Blake with her eyes wide and her mouth open.
The other woman, his mugger, fell to her knees and threw her hands in the air. "Forgive us for questioning your powers! Forgive us!"
Oliver thought the crash must have scared them crazy.
"Hi, Sunny." said Blake.
Oliver rolled his eyes at Blake. "Are you two okay?" he asked them.
His mugger stood up. She patted the dust off her knees. "I'm fine." she covered her face to hide a blush.
"Me too," said her friend.
Oliver took a glance at the patrons in the café. He didn't smell blood but someone might be hurt. He went to inspect the car. The driver was a stupid kid who lost control of his car. Luckily, he barely got a scratch. Two of the café workers grabbed him before he could run.
"Does anyone need medical attention?" someone shouted.
The owner of the café and the workers were checking to see if everyone was all right. People were shaken but no one was injured.
Oliver's mugger came up to him.
"Hi, I'm Sunny Sparks." She said.
That was a stripper' name if he ever heard one.
"Hi, uh..Sunny. I'm Oliver." He said although she already knew it.
"And that's Dai." She said, pointing at her friend.
Oliver raised his brow at the larger woman. "Your name is Die?"
"No, my name is Dai. Spelled D-A-I." she said.
"Hi, Dai..." said Oliver.
"Keller. Dai Keller."
Oliver noticed the similarities right away. Her name was Dai Keller. She spelled her first name D-A-I which could be mistakenly pronounced as Day. And Keller sounded a lot like Killer. Was she the one the newcomers were looking for?
Blake appeared to notice it too. "That sounds a lot like…" his gaze connected with Oliver's.
"Give us a moment." said Oliver.
Oliver and Blake huddled together.
"She's an intern at Scanguards in administrative support." whispered Blake.
Oliver wondered how Blake knew this but he wasn't about to ask. "I'll call Samson. You stay with them."
Blake agreed. He went back to the women. Oliver took out his cellphone and got a hold of Samson. He told him about Dai Keller and his theory. Samson was going to do a background check on her and contact him back right away. In the meantime, Samson ordered Oliver and Blake to not let her out his their sight until she was cleared.
