Sunny believed the Fates were planning something. The reason she kept seeing Oliver was because he was her soulmate. He was the man the Fates chose for her and she wasn't about to argue with it. She had to get to know him more. Blake, Dai's soulmate, seemed to know him. She could find out more about Oliver from him.
"Blake, how do you know Oliver?" asked Sunny.
"Oliver? He is sort of my brother." Blake looked at Oliver who was busy on his cellphone.
"He's the brother you were talking about. Does he have a girlfriend or a wife? Because I want that position." Sunny was being direct with him. She had to stop Blake's flirtatious behavior toward her if they were going to be in-laws.
Disappointment filled Blake's face. "Not that I know of."
"That means no, right?" Sunny asked Dai.
"You should ask Oliver yourself." suggested Dai.
"Good idea." Sunny walked up to Oliver right as he was putting his cellphone away. "Do you have a girlfriend?"
Her question took him by surprise. "What?"
"Do you have a girlfriend?" she repeated.
"No."
Sunny gathered all of her courage and said without stuttering. "I am interested in you."
Oliver was flattered. He thought she was cute but a relationship between them would not workout. He had too much going on. He would not put it on a nice girl like her. Sunny Sparks. As a vampire even her name was deadly to him. It was another reason to not pursue a relationship with her.
Sunny sensed his rejection. "Give me a chance. I can be a good wife."
"Wife?" He chuckled, thinking she was joking. "Take me out to dinner first."
"I can cook. Let's go to my apartment."
Oliver glanced at Dai. He and Blake had to keep her with them. "Is Dai coming?"
"I'll go ask her. Wait a moment." Sunny went to Dai to extend the invitation to her.
Meanwhile, Oliver went to talk with Blake about going to Sunny's place.
Dai looked at Sunny like she was crazy. "It's a coincidence." She motioned toward the wreckage, "They aren't our soulmates and you can't bring him to your apartment. He's a stranger!"
"We need to place our trust on the Fates."
"But..." Dai side glanced at Blake. "I'm not his type."
"Did he tell you that?"
Dai glanced at Blake again, this time her face was red. "No," she said under her breath.
"Then how do you know you're not his type? I'm going to spend time with Oliver. I want to see what kind of a man he is. I'm sure there is more to him then I originally thought. To be honest, it wasn't much." Sunny told her.
"I suppose I shouldn't write Blake off too quick."
"Good." Sunny hugged Dai.
"I'll call my parents and let them know I'll be at your place and to come pick up my car." said Dai.
"Let's go tell Oliver and Blake."
"We are going to Sunny's place." Oliver told Blake.
"Is it a date?" Blake asked.
"Yeah," replied Oliver.
"That means I'm with Dai?"
"No one say anything about a double date." said Oliver. "I'm not about to sacrifice an innocent to you."
It took a while but Blake finally understood the insult. "Hey!"
Oliver hushed him. "The girls are coming."
Sunny was holding Dai's hand. "Dai is coming with us. Did you guys come by car or foot?"
"Foot," said Oliver.
"We drove here. You guys can ride home with us." said Sunny.
Sunny showed them where her car was parked and they went inside. Sunny was driving. Oliver sat on the passenger side, which left Dai and Blake sitting in the back. The other night, Oliver was not paying attention to Sunny's car. It was due to being distracted by the gorgeous woman inside but now that he got a good look he saw that it was a Porsche. Apparently, Sunny has money. This was made more evident when he found out she lived in one of the most high end neighborhoods. There was a private parking garage and even a valet to take the car away when they arrived. She led them to an elevator and pressed the number for her floor. Blake and Dai seemed to think nothing of it but Oliver, who grew up with nothing, was a bit taken back. He didn't know how much prostitutes make but Sunny as sure making a lot. It made him wonder what kind of men she serviced. Thinking about other men touching her made him angry and jealous. His train of thought went to a dark place. Was she planning on adding him to her list of clients? She saw that he had money and wants to rail him in?
"Make yourself at home." said Sunny.
She swung open a door to reveal a lavishly furnished condo - not an apartment like she said. It was a condo and it was huge. The design was elegant and classy. The colors and space were inviting and comfortable. The most enticing part was the smell. Sunny's scent was present in every inch of her home. Oliver inhaled and felt instantly aroused. He pulled his coat closer over himself to prevent the others from noticing the tent in his pants.
Blake whistled. "Nice spread. Who is your interior designer?"
"I don't have one." said Sunny. "This place belonged to my boss. She owns a lot of property and gave this to me as a gift. It was already like this when I moved in. Isn't it beautiful." her eyes were on Oliver.
"It's nice." Oliver said to soothe her. If he wasn't used to seeing Samson's homes, he would have been more in awed.
Sunny gave him a large smile. If they were going to be together he had to like her home.
"Anna has great taste." said Dai. "Anna is Sunny's boss." she added.
"Anna is the greatest boss in the world and so is her grandma." said Sunny. "My family died of a famine that struck our country. My mother gave me to the Goddess in hopes that I would survive. I served her for years, until I was released from my services. I now serve her granddaughter."
Oliver was touched by what Sunny was sharing with then. From what he gathered, her mother sold her into prostitution and that was how she fell into this type of life. He figured she cleaned up the story a bit and omitted a few things.
"You two sit down and watch whatever you want. I and Dai are going to get dinner started." said Sunny.
Blake took her word for it. He snatched the remote from the coffee table to turn on the t.v and dropped himself on the large couch like he owned the place. Oliver didn't like Blake doing that. This was Sunny's home and not his.
"Are you really going to eat the food? Can you?" Blake asked him.
That was when it hit Oliver. He would not be able to eat the food Sunny made him. What was he thinking? He let his smaller head do the thinking and look what happened. He contemplated leaving with a lame excuse but caught a whiff of the lovely aroma coming from the kitchen. His fangs itched for a bite. Why was his mouth watering for human food?
Blake saw the look of hunger on Oliver's face. "I'm going to see if they need help!" he said quickly and dashed out of the room.
Oliver followed Blake into the kitchen. The smell was even better in there. He glanced around, Blake and Dai were nowhere in sight. He hoped Blake was keeping an eye on Dai. He walked to Sunny who was pulling a bowl of something smelling delicious out of the refrigerator.
"What are you making?" he asked her.
"Blood sausage." said Sunny.
Oliver's fangs extended. He clamped his mouth shut.
"W-Why are you making b-blood food?" he stuttered, trying his best to speak without revealing his fangs.
Sunny placed the bowl on the counter. "I wanted to make something you can eat. I didn't know what kind of blood type you prefer so I ordered A positive - that's my blood type by the way."
"What?" he wasn't playing dumb. He really was at a lost for words.
Sunny froze and whipped her head to him. "Don't tell me you don't like A positive? I thought vampires would drink any blood type."
"You know I'm a vampire?" Oliver displayed his fangs without realizing it. He supposed she knew about him being a vampire when she saw him at the brothel.
"Yes, after that night you tried to mug me - you were trying to suck my blood weren't you?" She didn't wait for him to answer. "At first, I thought you were a human but I figured out you're a vampire after we saw each other again at the club."
"Did your friends know about me?"
"Yes,"
"And you're not scared?"
"No. If anything, you should be scared of me." she said with a small laugh.
Believing she was joking again, Oliver laughed too. He liked a woman with a good sense of humor.
"Do you need any help?" He couldn't cook very well but he was good with a knife.
"I'm already done. Take these into the dinning room." she handed him a platter with bowls and plates of food on it and pointed at a door at the other end of the room.
He was amazed that she already finished cooking so fast. Didn't they just arrived? Nonetheless, he took the platter and went through the door she was pointing at. He entered the dinning room to see Blake holding Dai in an intimate manner. They broke apart when they spotted him and acted like nothing happened. Was something going on between those two? Whatever it was Oliver didn't want to get involved. He acted like he didn't see anything. His only job was to watch Dai for now and that was it.
"Food is done." Oliver said.
Oliver put the platter on the table and went back into the kitchen. Dai followed him and Blake was trailing behind her. Oliver caught Blake watching Dai move about the kitchen with a sad expression. Dai was ignoring Blake and helping Sunny gather the dishes. When the table was filled, they sat down. Oliver and Sunny were at one end of the oval table and Dai and Blake was sitting together at the other end.
Oliver breathed in the delectable smell. Drooling already, he couldn't wait to eat the food that lay before him."Why does everything smell so good?"
"It's because I put blood in everything." said Sunny. She pointed at the bowl of blood sausage. "As you know that one's got type A in it." She pointed at more bowls and plates told him what blood type she put in them, which was every blood type there was.
Oliver was getting drunk from the smell of blood but that didn't mean he was blind or deaf about what was going on. "How did you get all of this blood?"
Sunny was unfazed by his question. "I know a girl."
"Does your girl own a blood bank or something?"
"Yes,"
"Are you serious?" This made Oliver curious. "Who?"
"Anastasia Brockington."
"Is she that famous shrink that wrote all those books?" Oliver wasn't a reader but he'd heard of her. Samson had copies of the books she wrote in his study.
"Yes,"
"My boss is a big fan of hers. Can you get me an autograph?" Samson is going to flip if Oliver managed to get him Anastasia Brockington's autograph. It was even more cool that she was a vampire too.
"I'll ask."
"Thanks. He's going to love it."
Unable to wait any longer, Oliver dug into the blood sausage he was dying to try. It was as good as it smelled, pure heaven on his tongue. It had been so long since he experience flavors like when he was human. How Sunny did it was a mystery to him. It was so good, he planned on asking her to cook for Samson and the other vampire.
Sunny watched as Oliver ate all of the food like a starving man. She had told him she could cook. Whether it was edible was up for debate. As soon as she got into the kitchen with Dai she panicked. She didn't know what to cook for a vampire. That was when she got the bright idea to call Anna. Sunny told Anna about the situation and asked for help. Anna reminded her that Oliver was a vampire and vampires eat anything with blood on it. She went on to teach Sunny methods of how to mix the right amount of blood into food to make it taste great for him. To Sunny's delight, she discovered that all she required to make Oliver love her horrible cooking was a measuring cup, a blender, and pints of blood, which Anna secretly supplied. Sunny couldn't thank Anna enough.
Sunny and Dai were in the middle of cooking when Blake barged into the kitchen warning them about Oliver. Dai had to take Blake into the next room to talk to him. Much to his surprise, they already knew Oliver was a vampire. In fact, it was Dai who realized it while they were at the club. That night, Dai went on to share with Sunny and the rest of her friends that Scanguards was owned and operated by vampires. Sunny and the others gave Dai their condolences. They knew how much she wanted to get away from all the vampire stuff. Sunny remembered when she first met Dai. Dai was so excited about moving to San Diego to start her internship and live a normal life. It seemed Dai was pulled right back in without realizing it. Sunny looked at Blake and Dai. Dai told her that she barely knew Blake but they appear comfortable with each other. She focused her attention on her bowl of Spetsofai and ate.
"So, you know about vampires?" asked Oliver.
"Yes," she replied.
"And you can cook with blood?" he said.
"Yes,"
Oliver stared at her face as if he was waiting for something. She stared back at him. They were that way in for a while until he spoke.
"I'm sorry, but you're giving me mixed signals here."
"What do you mean?"
"You said you liked me but you're acting...quiet - what I mean is tell me about yourself."
Sunny blinked. "You want me to talk about myself? I can talk." She thought of what to say to him. "I like to clean. I can read. I can write. I can count." There, she told him about herself. He should be pleased.
Oliver's mouth fell open. "That's a good start."
"What about you? Tell me about yourself."
"I'm a vampire."
"I know that."
"Right. I can talk too. I like to clean. I can read, write, and count too." he said and then went silent.
Sunny waited for him to say more but he didn't, so she returned to eating.
"Wow!" said Dai.
Sunny and Oliver turned to her.
"You two have common interests." said Dai. It was painful for her to watch Sunny and Oliver. She had to do something about it.
"We do." Sunny agreed.
"Sunny, why don't you tell the guys about your hobbies." suggested Dai.
"I like to clean."
"I mean your other hobbies. The other things you like to do."
"I can read."
"No, other things that you like to do - not the ones you already said."
"I like to eat food."
"I like food too." said Blake.
"Me too." said Oliver.
"Food is something we all have in common." said Dai. It was getting awkward by the minute. Sunny was hopeless and Oliver was more interested in the food than anything else. The night was going downhill fast. Something needed to happen to pick things up.
"I like fighting - you know to protect." said Blake.
"Me too." said Oliver. "You have to protect yourself and those you care about."
"I can protect you." Sunny said to Oliver. She looked at Dai and Blake. "We can all protect each other because we care about one another."
"Yeah." said Oliver.
Sunny was content. She admitted that she cared about Oliver and he agreed. "And we can protect our children too." she said.
"What children?" asked Oliver.
"The ones we are going to have." she told him.
Oliver bolted up from his chair. "What?!"
Dai stood up to and rushed to Sunny. "I need a word with her. You guys stay here." She pulled Sunny into another room and shut the door.
"You need to tone it down Sunny. You're coming on to strong. It's going to scare him away." said Dai.
"I'm being honest with him I want a large family."
"There is nothing wrong with that. I think you should wait a while before telling him these things."
Sunny thought Dai was advising her to wait until the next night to tell Oliver about the family they were going to have.
"I understand what you are saying." said Sunny.
"Good. Let's go back to the guys."
Sunny and Dai walked back to the door and stopped when they saw Oliver and Blake huddled together. The boys were listening to someone talking to them on the phone.
"I checked into Dai Keller and found something interesting. Over a year ago, she was on a class field trip to a prestigious museum and fell off a balcony." Samson told Blake and Oliver. " She broke multiple bones and was hospitalized for six months." Samson continued. "When she fell she landed on a priceless artifact, a stone tablet with ancient inscriptions on. I think it might be what the newcomers want."
"What was on the tablet?" asked Oliver.
"We don't know. It was written in ancient Latin. Scientist were trying to decipher it before it broke."
"I can read Latin."
Oliver and Blake jumped at the sound of Sunny's voice. They turned to see Dai and Sunny back inside the room. None of the men heard them coming in.
"How long have you been listening?" asked Oliver.
"Who is that?" asked Samson.
Sunny went to the phone. "Hi, I'm Sunny, Oliver's girlfriend and future wife."
"Oliver?" said Samson.
Oliver's jaw dropped at what she was saying. "She's joking. We just meet! Sunny, I know you love me -"
"I don't love you." said Sunny.
"Ouch," Blake finally said.
"Call me back when you're done with your personal business." Samson told Oliver and disconnected the call.
Dai urged Blake into another room to give Sunny and Oliver privacy.
"You don't love me?" asked Oliver as soon as the door closed.
"No."
"But you want to be my girlfriend. You said you wanted to marry me."
"I do."
"And you don't love me?"
"No."
Oliver was lost in confusion. "I thought women want marriage with love."
"I don't require your love."
"Then why are you coming on to me?"
"You were chosen to be my husband."
Oliver was pissed. "This is a prank, isn't it! Who put you up to this?"
"The Fates."
"Who are they, your sorority sisters? Tell them this shit isn't funny. You can go messing with a guy like this. I have feelings too, you know." Oliver would never hit women but someone tell that to the vampire in him. His hands became claws and it was reaching for her throat.
Sunny swatted his hand away like it was an annoying fly. She grabbed his arm and twisted it behind his back, subduing him. Oliver thought she got the drop on him on the first night they meet was because he was unprepared. It appeared that she was an able fighter.
"Who are you?"
"Sunny,"
"I didn't mean your name!" Oliver shouted. The was another thing he noticed about her. She talked like she doesn't understand the meaning of the words. Does she understand the English language? She probably can't even read. She was a prostitute! "I can't believe I'm getting beat up by a prostitute!"
Sunny turned his body to face her and slapped him for the insult.
"Whore!" Oliver said in retaliation.
Dai and Blake entered the room.
"That's enough!" ordered Dai.
Dai urged Sunny to release Oliver and held her back. Blake grabbed Oliver and did the same.
"Get out! You're not welcome here!" shouted Dai.
"As if I want to be there anyways!" said Oliver.
Blake pulled Oliver's arm. "We can't leave."
"Like hell we can!" Oliver marched out with Blake running after him. Oliver slammed the door shut and stalked in the hallway.
"We can't leave," said Blake in a poor attempt to get through to him, "Samson said to stay with them."
"I don't care what Samson says!" Oliver declared.
Oliver slammed Blake against the wall and made a run for it. He felt awful for hurting him but he had no choice. He had to get out of there as fast as he could. He couldn't allow anyone to see him. When he found his way outside of the building he sat on the bench to mop. He regretted calling her names. He genuinely liked Sunny and was more hurt than angry that she was pretending. Did she even like him at all? He was too engross in his thoughts that he didn't hear the sounds of foot steps approaching him.
"Are you still going to try being with Oliver?" Dai asked Sunny.
"Yes, he's suppose to be my husband."
"But you don't love him."
"I didn't love him currently, we just met. I believe I can fall in love with him over time."
Dai predicted Sunny would say something like that. "How do you feel about Oliver? Do you find him attractive?"
"He's handsome."
"You should tell him that. Talk to him like you talk to me." Dai advised her.
Sunny was confused by Dai. "You said not to tell him everything. Now, you want me too?"
Dai realized what she did. "Sorry, this misunderstanding is my fault. I should have never said anything like that to you. You know what, don't listen to me. What do I know? You should do and say anything you want to Oliver. I'll stay out of it."
Both women looked up when they heard the sound of knocking. Dai opened the door for Blake.
"I'm sorry about Oliver. He's going through some stuff. He didn't mean anything he said. Please, forgive him." he begged.
Blake returned to Sunny's apartment to grovel. He remembered the look on Oliver's face when he was running away. There were tears in his eyes. He was heartbroken by Sunny's confession that she didn't love him.
"I'm not angry anymore. Where is Oliver? I need to speak to him." said Sunny.
Blake was happy that she was forgiving. "He ran outside and -wait one second." he phone started ringing. He saw Oliver's phone number on the caller ID and picked it up. "Hey, Oliver -"
"We have your friend. If you want him back alive, bring us Day Killer." and the call was disconnected.
