My group of friends that I normally hang out with has Daphne (duh), Isabella, Grace, and Madeleine. All of my friends share the same personality: bubbly, friendly, always cheerful, and happy-go-lucky in a way. Just like the average Amity. Madeleine, however, is not just that. She has a boisterous side to her: never thinking twice to do something brave or stand up for herself. She can belong in Dauntless.

Well, almost all the Amity I kind of call my friends. Everyone is so cheerful and friendly it's not hard to make friends with anyone. However, there was one boy who was not so – a rebel named Blake. No matter how hard his parents tried to make him nice, no matter how disapproved he knew he was, Blake was mean, cruel, and a pure bully. Even worse than the Candor bullies to us. When he was twelve, he stole a gun from Dauntless (I have no idea how he got there) and almost assassinated a whole house full of elderly Amity, just because they scolded him of being 'not respectful enough to the society'. Johanna Rayes, usually full of forgiveness and kindness, had enough of him and decided to send him to the factionless with reluctance. I have not heard about Blake since.

Anyway, we are currently playing a childish hand game. Can't my friends see we are already sixteen? I shouldn't stay here in Amity any longer if this is the case. But – oh, darn, so I'm out. OK. Whatever.

My attention turns to the Dauntless. They are screaming and laughing, having loads of fun playing a game of Dare, occasionally jumping on the tables in front of them. The Erudite teachers look at them disapprovingly.

The Abnegation sit silently, trying to forget that they exist. I feel sorry for them. I roll my eyes.

The Candor are gossiping, shamelessly sharing offensive comments on everyone. I can hear a bit of their conversation:

"Don't you think Mr Bayne over there looks a bit like a walrus?"

I snort.

"Something funny?" It's Mr Bayne, the Factions History teacher. I hate him. He hates me too, because every lesson I contradict what he says about how the faction system is flawless.

"Yes," I say bluntly.

Mr Bayne looks half shocked half expecting it.

"What is it? Spit it out."

"I would, but unfortunately it would be nothing your walrus brain would comprehend."

I watch as the Candor and Dauntless burst into laughter, and Mr Bayne turns red, looking even more like a walrus. I laugh too. Daphne, Isabella and Grace look at me disapprovingly, whilst Madeleine grins.
