"From Amity: Madeleine McFlare and Elizabeth Langley," the speakers boom. That's me.
"See you later guys," we both say and head off towards the aptitude testing room.
"What do you think you might get?" Madeleine asks casually.
"Lollies." I say immediately.
"I don't mean that," she laughs.
"What did you mean then?" I ask innocently.
"Geez, I'm starting to get worried that your little chat to Mr Bayne over there gave you a bit of his walrus mind."
I shake my head. "You're a real rebel, Maddy."
"I could say the same about you," she argues, raising her eyebrow.
"True."
It's not often me and Madeleine are together alone. But when we are, we enjoy rebellious moments together acting as un-Amity as possible.
We come to a stop outside our testing rooms.
"Well, good luck, I guess," I say, walking in.
The first thing that greets me is a mirror. I see a medium-height girl, with long, wavy, shiny golden hair, green eyes, and small limbs. I never liked my appearance, but Daphne always used to comment about how I could be a fashion model one day. I threw that piece of advice off right away.
Then, in the corner of the room, I see a black-haired woman with many tattoos and piercings on her. Dauntless. Beside her was a simulation chair and lots of computers. Is that the test? A simulation?
"Hello. My name is Tori. I will be administrating your aptitude test today. Please take a seat."
I sit down on the chair, and I realise that she just regards me as "just another average Amity person." You see, almost all Amity have an Amity aptitude, and stay in Amity. Only five people in whole of history has ever transferred. Should I make it six?
"For the test, you will be in a simulation that determines which faction suits you the most. You will not realise you are in the simulation. This is why we say you cannot prepare for the test in any way. It is real life scenarios, so the real question is how you would react to them."
She's making it seem so terrifying in a way.
"OK," I say without an argument.
"Drink this," she says, handing me a clear blue liquid. I don't ask what it is. It's obvious.
I drink the vial, and everything goes dark.
