Summary:
California accidents travel to the Aloha state and temporary delay Charlie and Paul's romantic quest.
"I didn't know, honest" Charlie spoke suddenly, while riding in the rental car with Paul heading toward the airport. "Didn't know what Chuck?" Paul questioned. "About the baby Paul, I didn't know it was there If I had I would've…" Charlie's voice trailed off and she continued to stair outside the car window at the island landscape. Paul gazed at Charlie longingly before he spoke "Catherine, I don't blame you, I don't blame God, I don't blame Buddha, I blame no one." His right hand squeezing her left, repeating himself "I blame no one" staring intensely into Charlie's mahogany eyes which were holding back tears. "See there you go again" Chuck stated frustrated "no harm no foul Charlie." "Yes you are exactly right no harm no foul Chuckie, this situation was out of your control" Paul encouraged. ""Don't dance with it Paul call the situation for what it was an ectopic pregnancy" she said with a bite. "Yes, Charlie you had an ectopic pregnancy it happened, I'm sorry. I can't take away the pain you feel, I can't pretend that it did not hurt to know that not only did I lose a child but my best friend and love of my life lost a child too." With this statement tears were slowly falling down Charlie's face. Silence filled the atmosphere as they pulled into the rental car parking lot. "Hey Charles," Paul said matter of factly " I can tell you this you are the most bravest, strongest, stubborn, daring, and caring woman I've ever known and one day will get another chance to have a baby." Charlie grimaced at Paul's accolades and replied "Paul, I can't wrap my head around having another child." "I know and I don't want you too." Charlie looked puzzled at Paul's reply so he consciously decided to give her an explanation. "Not today, tomorrow, a month, or a year from now bottom-line we have time to start a family." Silence took over the conversation yet again, then Charlie giggled slightly stating to Paul "are you sure we won't start a family today, tomorrow or a month from now?" "Why do you say that?" Paul asked. "Because we were pretty naughty this weekend" Charlie said with a raised eyebrow and a smile. "Yeah well be glad I'm Santa's helper I'll keep us off the naughty list" Paul said as he exited the rental to grab the luggage out of the trunk. Once the trunk was unloaded Briggs handled the rental paperwork at the office and returned to the passenger side of the car and opened Charlie's door. "Such a gentleman, thank you" Charlie praised Paul. "It's not often that men are so fortunate to have a wife as beautiful as you darling." Charlie blushed staring at the ground. The shuttle bus pulled up to the car rental loading area and Paul put the luggage on the bus and extended his hand out to his wife. "So you ready?" his questioned directed towards Charlie. "Ready for what?" she questioned. "The adventures life has for us," Paul stated while sitting next to Charlie on the shuttle bus seat. Charlie leaned her head on Paul's shoulder and looked up at him and said "as long as we have each other we can tackle anything." With a sweet smile and kiss to Charlie's forehead, Paul simply stated "that's my Chuckie E. Cheese" and the shuttle bus swiftly transported Mr. and Mrs. Briggs to the airport.
