Where There's a King There's a Queen
Ch4: The Runaway and The Thief

"It was him. Akilah was right. I could tell it was him not only by his eyes, but the way he kissed me. There's no one in the world that could possibly kiss like that except him." She smiled to herself at the memory. "The evil in him hasn't changed since Zorc got a hold of him. But I can still since my Bakura within his soul, the untainted soul within the tainted. You never would have been able to tell that he was once the man he was the day I met him."

~Flashback~ (Mystery Woman's POV)

It was hot, just like it was every day. The town that I was skimming for valuables was busy and filled with life. So I had to move with silence and stealth. One tiny little slip and I would be caught. I saw a gorgeous gold necklace displayed out in the open. As soon as I was in reach of it the villagers had crowded, but there was opening where I could see what was going on. They were yelling, taunting. Soldiers rode up. The foot soldiers shoved a tan man, with pale hair into the dust on the street floor. He landed with a grunt.

"Hey look at the big, bad King of Thieves now, boys. Not so tough now are we, your majesty?" The lead soldier mocked the man. The crowd joined in to the ridicule. The man in shackles remained quiet. That pissed of the high ranked guard, the lower soldiers removed the man's cloak, and the leader drew his whip, "Answer me when I'm talking to you, bastard." He drew his arm back and lashed out against the thief's back. The man didn't cry out but tensed and moved his head to the side were his face was out of the dirt. I gaped at him, he was beautiful. The only flaw on his face was a scar under his right eye, but aside from that he was the most handsome man I had ever seen. The whip cracked again, again, and again. I knew I had to stop this or they would surely kill him. There was a good size stone near me, I grabbed hit, hurled it, and hit the leader right smack dab in the middle of the forehead. "WHO DARES INTERFERE?" He roared.

I got up and revealed myself as the crowd cleared the streets as they sensed trouble on its way and left before they got involved. "Leave…him…alone." I snarled. Once the men saw me they laughed, "Now, now little girl run along before you get hurt." I growled then removed my cloak to reveal the sacred armor of my clan and my weapons that I kept on my person at all times. They gaped at me in surprise, no doubt recognizing which clan I belonged to. I stood my ground, "I'm not going anywhere." I unsheathed my twin swords from my back and twirled them in my hands.

"No you idiot woman, run." The wounded man hissed out in pain.

"Shut up cur!" The soldier kicked him hard in the side making the man cry out.

"I told you to leave him ALONE!" My temper reached its limit. I charged the soldiers and finished them off in two minutes with the training I received when I was still within my clan's territory. Once they were disposed of I went to the man I just saved and kneeled beside him. I was relieved to see his chest rise and fall. He looked at me, barely able to hold onto consciousness. I tenderly brushed his bangs out of his eyes to see that they were a sliver-blue, "Sleep now, you're going to be okay." I soothed. Immediately he passed out, his unusual eyes hidden from view. I whistled for my horse, I grabbed his cloak, and somehow I managed to get the male thief onto my horse. I climbed up onto the saddle immediately behind him so he wouldn't slip off. I brought him close, his head resting on my shoulder, his breathing letting me know that he was still alive. Once I was a good distance away from the village but still able to see it I summoned my soul creature, Horus the black flame dragon, even though it was technically a hawk people still referred to it as a dragon. People were right to fear it, they often mistook it to be Ra himself, I would've of too; Horus was the same size as Ra and they look fairly similar. "Horus, destroy the village leave no survivors." Once it had its orders Horus screeched, and obeyed. Once the village was a raging inferno I rode off with infamous King of Thieves.

I couldn't risk any of the villagers coming after us or notifying the pharaoh that me and my cargo were still alive. Horus finished its task and returned to me with a final cry. A hawk cry rang in my ears as Akilah landed on my bare shoulder, the one without the male's head against it. "Akilah, fly to the band and let Steryu know he needs to get medical supplies ready." I told her, Akilah screeched and flew off. It took all night but I finally made it to my band's hideaway. I stopped my horse right outside the entrance; I slipped off the saddle with the man, and leaned his unconscious body against me. Steryu came out of the hideout to greet me in a rush, "Milady! Are you alright? What in Ra's name happened?" He stopped once he saw the man at my side. Two other members of my band were right behind Steryu.

"I'm not the one injured, Steryu. Did you prepare the medical supplies like I asked?" I asked as Steryu came up to us.

"Yes of course. When Akilah relayed the message to me I assumed that it was you who was injured. She didn't say anything about him." Steryu said gesturing to man at my side.

"Yeah I know, I should have told her to tell you about him. His wounds must be tended to right away. Please take him to my chambers, don't let anyone in until I get there." I handed the man to my second in command.

"Yes, right away Milady, but what about you?" Steryu placed the man in his arms bridal style. Steryu was a 6"3' tall man, with tan skin, hazel eyes, and black hair. He was able to carry the unconscious man with ease.

"I need to see to something right quick." I answered patiently, "Go now and make sure no one sees you."

"Yes, ma'am." Steryu took off back into the hideaway with my pervious cargo.

"You two, make sure Steryu gets to my chambers without any problems." I pointed to the two thieves that remained in the doorway.

"Yes ma'am." The thieves obeyed. Once they were gone I whistled for Akilah.

She came to me almost immediately, she landed on my shoulder as she let me know that she was on her way with a powerful shriek, "Akilah, find the Thief King's band and tell them about their master's situation and bring them here to retrieve him. Be careful my friend." Akilah flew off to carry out her task. "Now to tend to his highness." I went inside.

The only female members of my band ran to me in concern. "Milady are you alright?" Reyuita, the only member of my band that was close to my age, asked.

"We saw Akilah fly in and Steryu rushed to get the medical supplies." Hujio, Reyuita's best friend, stated.

"We thought for sure that you had been injured." Qartiko, the youngest member of the band, said.

"I appreciate your concern girls, but I'm fine." I smiled feeling good that my band actually cared about me.

"Then why did you have Steryu gather the medical supplies?" The three girls wondered in unison.

"Some of the pharaoh's most high ranking soldiers had captured a thief and I rescued him before they had the chance to kill him." I explained.

"Who is he?" Reyuita asked me.

"I'm not sure of his name, but they referred to him as the King of Thieves." I said. The three girls gasped.

"The King of Thieves? I heard he was a heartless monster." Qartiko stated.

"Well, heartless monster or not Qartiko we thieves must stick together that's the only way our kind can survive." That was how I felt, I still felt that way about our kind.

"You're right. I'm sorry." Qartiko apologized.

"Don't be. Now if you ladies would excuse me I really must go see to his wounds before he wakes up. And not a word about this to anyone. His band is on its way here to retrieve him, so don't be alarmed when you see them." I turned to them after I started to walk away.

"Yes ma'am." The three scampered off.

I reached my chambers without any further interruption. "Steryu has he said a word?" I inquired as I walked into my room.

"Nothing Milady, silent as a grave." Steryu answered, he stood against a wall near the king that was lying on my bed.

"Well he's going to be in that grave if we don't tend him. Would you please get me a soft cloth and some water to wash his back with?" I moved onto my bed, rolled the thief over, after removing his cloak, onto his stomach so I could have better access to his whipped back.

"Right away." Steryu left the room and returned shortly with the things I asked for. I traced the scars that were on his back that hadn't been opened up by the whipping. He face was turned so I was able to see the part of his face that bared the scar, I traced it gingerly, "How could anyone be so cruel as to do this to him, I know he's a thief, but so am I but even if he wasn't a thief he didn't deserve the treatment that he must've gone through." I said to myself as I caressed his cheek absent-mindly.

It took an hour but I cleaned his cuts, sewed up the really deep ones, rubbed them down with an ointment that my grandmother taught me how to make, and bandaged them. "There, all done. And not a single peep out of him."

"Nicely done, Milady." Steryu praised.

"I learned from the best." Steryu had taught me everything I knew about tending to wounds. He was twenty-five and I was only seventeen, yet I was the leader of the whole band.

"Please Milady." Steryu gave flattered grin.

"Oh shut up Steryu you know I don't mean a word of it." I teased him. At that moment the man on my bed began to stir. His eyes finally fluttered open to come in contact with the view of my face hovering over him. "Hey, you're finally awake, uh?" I smiled friendly at him then turned to Steryu, "You may leave Steryu, I can take it from here." I said to the man who was older than me but was under me in class.

"As you wish, Milady." Steryu bowed his head and left the room.

"Where am I?" The man wondered as he rubbed his sweat covered forehead confused.

"You're at my band's hideout. Don't worry you're safe here." I answered, getting of the bed, giving the man some space.

"You're that woman from the village." He stated as his vision followed my movement. He tried to sit up but he grunted in pain and fell back against the pillows under his head. I helped him sit up, repositioned the pillows behind him, and leaned him back against them.

"It would appear so." I said.

"What's your name?" He asked out of pure curiosity. I debated whether I should tell him or not for a moment.

"Lieghl'ah." I answered him with a soft smile.

"Beautiful." He complemented.

"I'm Bakura." He stated his name.

"I know who you are, the self proclaimed King of Thieves, the sole survivor of Kul Elna." I pulled my dark hair back out of my face.

He looked at me shocked, "How did you know that I was from Kul Elna?"

"You talk in your sleep. I heard you talk about it when my second in command went to fetch me some things." I explained, "I'm sorry, you're people didn't deserve that, and neither did you."

"Thank you, but sorry won't bring them back." He said with clinched fists. "You're that medjia girl that disappeared without a trace three years ago aren't you?"

"I am." I replied."How did you know that I was a Medjia?" I questioned.

"I saw your tattoo as you killed those fools." Bakura answered.

"Actually, believe or not, it's a birthmark." I said showing him the mark on my arm despite the fact that he had already seen it.

"So what happened, were you kidnapped?" Bakura crossed his legs and leaned off the pillows.

"No, nothing of the sort, I ran away." I answered.

He cocked an eyebrow, "Why, did you not want to become a bodyguard for the so called pharaoh?"

"I didn't and my father was forcing me to pick a future husband that I would marry once I turned seventeen."

"Oh. So you're seventeen now I'm assuming." Bakura was interested by that fact.

"Yes."

"Didn't you want to get married?"

"Not to someone I didn't love." I said.

"I can understand that. How did you get them of your trail?"

"I tore my robe a little, drenched a few spots with my blood to make it appear that I was dead."

"Nice move. So you became a thief." Bakura grinned a little, which made my cheeks to blush a light pink.

"Yeah and I love it." There was a knock at the door, "Enter."

Steryu came in, "Milady the band that you asked Akilah to find is here."

"Well, they got here sooner than I had expected. Go greet them Steryu, I'll be there in a moment."

"Yes ma'am." Steryu left.

"So you notified my band of my whereabouts and my situation ,have you?" Bakura asked.

"Yes, something that I thought that you would've wanted to be done."

"Yes." Bakura got up. We walked out of the room and outside. My whole band had gathered outside to see the band of the Thief King.

"Milord, are you alright?" A man that I was to assume was Bakura's second in command.

"I'm fine." Bakura grunted.

"Here drink this; it'll help with the pain." Akilah returned with a serum that I asked her to get from a friend of mine from another band.

Bakura took a swig of it, his face became contorted. "No, don't spit out. I know it's nasty, but it helps." Bakura drank the rest of it. Once he finished it Akilah landed on his shoulder kept her eyes on him as Bakura stared back at her, she eased closer to him, and rubbed her head against his neck while she chirped happily, "Uh?" He wondered what Akilah was doing.

I chuckled a little, "She likes you." I explained with a grin. Akilah flew over onto my shoulder. Bakura grinned a little and petted Akilah on her breast.

"We thank you for rescuing our master, Miss." The second command smiled at me, the rest of the band agreed.

"There's no need to thank me, I'm happy that I was able to help." I smiled back.

Bakura got on his horse, thanked me, and rode off with his band.

~End Flashback~

That was the day me and Bakura first met, the day we became allies, and the day that I fell in love.
