Chapter Two
A/N: It's been soooo long since I wrote the first chapter, phew. I've been busy, school's really taking up my time for the past few months and I'm just not in the mood to write for a while. But I'm back! I've never expected that I'd be updating this story, since I don't really know how it will go.
Disclaimer: Kuroko no Basuke is not mine
Warning: Please refer to the previous chapter, anyway… I wrote this in the first place because I read something before about wishing that Kagami should just, I can't even type it, just that it was so frustrating, because seriously, he's role in the series is important. Damn important.
….
A whole week had already passed since their so-called practice game with Seirin High, but Kuroko still can't forget that feeling of emptiness when Seirin celebrates their victory over Rakuzan (even though they're not against the regulars). He wanted to talk to them, he wanted to be there, he doesn't know where he got the inkling feeling but Kuroko wanted to be part of that team.
It was almost midnight, his history book is lying by his side, long forgotten, he just stared at his wall looking at nothing in particular. He sighs, of course he loves his team, it was his second family, but there's something about the other team, especially the guy in jersey ten. Kagami Taiga.
'Where did I hear that name before?' He tried to recall, he knew there must be some connection. Even the other GoM members felt some mysterious link. 'Just who are you really, Kagami…kun.'
"Kagami-kun…" There it was again, the tiny needles that make his heart ache and the nausea that make his stomach churn. "Kagami-kun. Kagami-kun." He smiled, it seems like saying that name in that way is a thing that he's used to do without feeling uncomfortable.
Kuroko Tetsuya fell asleep like that, trying to discern the odd situation he was into.
….
Because Aomine was absent in their morning practice, Akashi, their captain insisted on hunting him down before the day ends. "I'm not going, tomorrow's Saturday anyway, just double my menu next week." Aomine said in his voice mail.
That's why; Kuroko and the other GoM members are here now in the busy street courts.
"What is going on-ssu?" Kise asked, though the excitement in his eyes are so bright.
"Must be a street ball tournament." Midorima shrugged.
"Anyway, let's go find Daiki or else, we'll be in big trouble. The coach is frantic about us joining matches other than official ones." Akashi said.
They split into three groups, Kise and Kuroko, Momoi and Akashi, and Midorima and Murasakibara.
"Ne ne, Kurokocchi." Kise looked at the phantom player in his puppy eyes.
"Kise-kun, we can't." Kuroko deadpanned. "Akashi-kun said we only need to find Aomine-kun, and then we'll go home."
"I know that-ssu!" Kise pouted. "I just want to play, that's all. Since the atmosphere is different."
"Let's just hurry an—"
"Kurokocchi?" Kise followed Kuroko's gaze when he realized that the other player stopped walking and talking. His eyes widened in surprise as well. Not far from them, a very familiar redhead is watching a match. "Is that?"
Before Kuroko can even answer, he already spotted Aomine talking with Kagami Taiga. Kagami-kun.
Aomine looks a bit irritated, as if there's something he wanted so badly, and yet he can't have it as of the moment. Kuroko tried to focus his attention to the match that both the boys are watching; another familiar face caught his attention. The guy who wore the number eleven jersey of Seirin is part of the winning team.
"Let's go there Kurokocchi!" Kise almost run towards Aomine and the redhead.
As Kuroko follows behind, he wandered why the mysterious redhead is not playing. And he seems a bit down too. As the boy who always studies people around him, he looks at him from and head to toe. That's where he spotted the problem, it even made him feel cold and scared at the same time.
It seems that Kagami Taiga is wearing an ankle brace in his left leg. He didn't saw it a while ago because it has the same color with his socks. The fact that the boy is not playing basketball already gives him chills, but seeing him with injured leg, it's not right.
"It sucks, not playing." He said to Aomine.
He heard Aomine click his tongue.
"Aominecchi!" Kise said happily, eyes on the match, eyes that say I-want-to-play-now. "Oh hello!" He greeted Kagami.
"K-kise?!" Aomine jumped. "What in the world? What are you doing here?"
"Akashi-kun insisted that we should look for you." Kuroko suddenly popped out of nowhere, which made Aomine and Kagami flinch in surprise.
"Wha-Where? Who are you?!" Kagami asked.
Kuroko just smiled. A real smile, the surprise voice and the hysterical face, it's something he already expected. "I've been here the whole time."
Kagami was supposed to say something, but the whistle of the referee caught his attention. The game was over and the guy in the redhead's team last week is walking towards them, or towards Kagami in particular.
"Nice game Tatsuya." Kagami half-smiled.
"You think so? It was a bit boring."
Kagami gave him a bottle of water and the guy named Tatsuya thanked him. Kuroko knew it was English, he do understand a bit of it, they'd been studying the language since middle school anyway, and it's just that he can't speak the language.
"Let's go Taiga." Tatsuya slips into Japanese and grabbed Kagami's arm.
"No!" The redhead shouted. "I want to watch more."
Kuroko, Kise, and Aomine also forgot that they also needed to get going, instead, they're too curious about the bickering of the two boys near them.
"Listen to me Kagami Taiga." The calmness possesses a threat.
"I'm not going to play Tatsuya."
"No. Listen. To. Me."
"But—"
"We're going back, I'll drop you by the hospital."
"…"
"Stop acting like a child and just follow me Taiga. Or do you want your injury to worsen?"
"…"
"Are you tired of playing basketball?" Tatsuya insisted. "What if—"
"The doctor said—"
"Let's go!"
"The doctor said—"
"Taiga!"
"Tatsuya! The doctor said…" Taiga's voice broke. "He said it might heal, after years of rehab. It might heal, yeah? But he also stated the fact that I cannot jump like the way I used to."
"You don't know that—" Tatsuya tried to shake him.
Kagami shook his head and smiled. "Don't worry, it's… okay…"
Kuroko is too shock to even move, and it seems that even his companions are rooted in their places too. 'Kagami-kun, not playing basketball, no.' It becomes harder to breathe, he looks at the redhead, that smile, it was too painful. Unbearably painful. "Kagami-kun…" He whispered.
Kagami heard him. He looks at him with sad eyes, and slowly sighs then nod in acknowledgement.
"Kagami-kun, does that mean you cannot play basketball again?" Kuroko asked in a shaking voice. Kagami's answer on the other hand is not what he's expecting.
"Yeah, seems like it." He gave Kuroko another of that sad smile of his. "All wishes has its price to pay Kuroko, this time, it was my basketball." And he turns his back and started walking away.
'What? How did he know…' Kuroko tried hard to search his brain for an answer. What Kagami said doesn't make sense, or that was it was supposed to be, but it does, in all the wrong places. There's something about the word 'WISH' and the 'PRICE' that made him feel like it was his fault. But what in the world was it.
"What is going on?" Aomine said, voicing out the question he's been asking himself for quite some time now. "That guy, he can't just stop, he had to keep on playing."
"What?" Kise said.
"I don't know, I just don't want him to stop. I want to play against that guy…"
Kuroko looks at them, he's not the only one who thinks weird. Even his teammates are feeling something towards the redhead. And by the looks of it, Kagami knew something.
