Okay, so I have a lot to say up here :P First, I have an explanation to why I've been gone so long. I had originally planned to update about a week and a half ago, but I was stressing over packing for vacation (I'm lazy and waited last minute) and making sure I had everything for my school projects that I was going to compete with, so I wasn't able to update like I had planned to. Please forgive me. Also, I joined my brother on his senior trip, so that was another week gone and I only had my cellphone for internet access, so another week without updating. Please, once again, forgive me.

Also, I learned something really cool! I actually did my project on Vietnam and learned about women in Vietnam. From my research, there was a woman who actually joined the others in Vietnam like Jesselynn because her brother was a soldier in the army. She wanted to be there and watch over him, just like our Jesselynn. You talk about shock! I had no idea that there was someone actually like Jesselynn (she was a medic as well) during Vietnam. I promise, I had no idea about her before I created IDHY and it is truly is pure coincidence. Still pretty cool, if you ask me haha.

Jesselynn Throne and Mrs. Annie Forrester

"Keep the books steady, Jesselynn! If any of them even move out of place we'll start all over again!" Mrs. Forrester called out the young, new teenager at the top of the long, winding stairwell.

"We?" Thirteen year old Jesselynn grumbled under her breath as she held out both arms and gradually made her way down the stairs. She had three books nestled wobbly on the top of her head; the thickest being on the bottom and the width decreasing with the other two. She had already mastered the one book and two books, now she was working on her third.

Since Jesselynn's thirteenth birthday, Mrs. Forrester had been working on the young girl's etiquette, posture, and grace. She believed on raising the young girl to be a lady and had no exceptions. She was bit of a tomboy right now. She discovered that when she gathered a bundle of the girl's casual clothes and saw the immensely set-in grass stains on her dresses and the tears in her sweaters and other articles of clothing. She realized that she was getting much too old to be playing so hard and dirty with the boys at the baseball diamond and needed to start the lessons her own mother gave her, which she had done with her own daughters as well.

"You can do it, Sissy!" Little Justin cheered down at the main floor with Mrs. Forrester. The boy was now five years old and going into kindergarten once the summer was over. Normally, he was with his nanny/tudor throughout the day, but Mrs. Forrester decided that he was getting too big for a nanny to watch his every move. He would need looking after, but he was also big enough to do some things on his own.

He bounced in a circle as Jesselynn crept down the stairs, growing louder and louder the closer she got to the bottom. Jesselynn sometimes thought he was annoying, as most older siblings would of the younger one, but she had to admit that she had a great support group in her baby brother. He was a ball of chaotic energy and always found a way to exert himself in every little task or game. He had lost his baby-like features and was beginning to look like a small child instead of a toddler. Normally, she'd overlook the fact, but she was honestly scared. Her baby brother was getting older and wasn't as dependent on her as he was when they first arrived at Mrs. Forrester's.

Jesselynn said nothing but smiled and turned her head to look down at the bouncing boy and graceful, middle-aged woman who smiled encouragingly up at her. She was halfway down and she was so proud of herself. The books had barely moved an inch on her head, she was almost done, and it was all on her first try! Honestly, she was getting a little cocky as she sped up a little and didn't try to take the books into consideration as she dropped one arm and rested a hand on the rail.

On the next step she took, she felt something shift on her head and she panicked. She halted in her steps and her hands flung up to her skull, ready to catch and reposition any lopsided books. When she did, the books tumbled off her head from the force of her motions and crashed around her feet; the thickest actually on her toes.

"Ow!" She cried out and tripped over her feet, catching herself on the rail. Justin no longer bounced happily and pouted. Jesselynn was scared to look over at Mrs. Forrester, but she managed to gather enough courage and shifted her eyes.

Mrs. Forrester looked a little disappointed as she sighed and bundled the skirt of her dress in one hand and began up the stairs to meet young Jesselynn. She looked so graceful and lightweight as she ventured up the steep steps. How did she do it? It wasn't fair! Why did she have to be the klutz of the house? Even Justin could've done better and he was an excitable five-year old!

Jesselynn huffed and fell back onto the step on the seat of her dress. Her legs were parted and she rested her elbows against her knobby knees; her scarred hands –from the car accident three years prior to this day— held her chin as she waited for Mrs. Forrester to appear beside her.

Jesselynn's scar from the car accident still haunted her. The leg that had been partially trapped had the most scars than the rest of her body. It healed quickly, but she still had problems with it from time to time. Scars riddled her calves and even her toes. She thought and knew it was the ugliest sight imaginable. She was embarrassed by them and always tried to wear her longest pair of socks, even in the heat of summer, to keep from the sight of others. Sometimes, she tried to hide them from herself. It was all too painful.

Her heart ached as she listened to the echoes of Mrs. Forrester's light steps. As much as she loved the nice, large home and wide-open field as her playing ground, she would give anything to be at her old, little country home with its small front and back yard. She loved having Mr. and Mrs. Forrester, Gloria, Justin's nanny, and Elaine, her own nanny; she wanted her mother and father. She wanted to peek out the window and see Daddy cursing at his old, run-down truck that refused to cooperate with him. She missed the smell of oil and grease on his old overalls and the grease smudges on his hands when he smiled down at her and gathered her in his arms.

She missed her mother. She missed the sound of humming to an old tune or singing a lullaby to either a younger Jesselynn or Justin as she strolled around the house. She always had a song in her heart and mind. Her mother also had a beautiful voice, there was no denying it. It was a feature that Jesselynn hadn't gained from her, though. She always wanted to sound like her mother, but she had a pitchy voice and couldn't carry a tune so beautifully like her mother. She had tried to sing a lullaby to Justin once when they first arrived at the Forrester's, but she did nothing but upset him. Her mother was gifted, yet humble. She never bragged about her musical gift or tried to show it off to the world. She actually kept pretty quiet and mostly sang to her children and husband.

She missed her mother's cheerful attitude. Justin was just as kind and sweet as their mother. She never had a bad word against someone even those that had wronged her. Jesselynn had a temper like her father and would get aggravated when things didn't go her way. Yet, her mother was patient with her and still managed to discipline her awnry child without losing her poise and grace. Even when her father would come in raging mad and complaining about the vehicles not working, she'd just smile at him and kindly tell him to calm down and gave him a big kiss on the cheek. She somehow had the ability to make the worst of situations into the best. Oh how Jesselynn wished she could do the same for Justin!

She missed the smell of her old home. Her mother always had something in the oven or on the stove. Jesselynn remembered sneaking all sorts of goodies off the counter tops while her mother wasn't looking. The home always seemed to smell of the wonderful, mouth-watering goodies her mother baked. No one was ever hungry for long in their home. Jesselynn's favorite was the cinnamon-flavored cookies. It was her favorite scent.

She even missed her grandparents. Her father had never known his parents and was raised in an orphanage. So, the only grandparents she knew of were her mother's parents. Her grandmother was just as cheerful as her daughter and her grandfather just as awnry as Jesselynn was as a child. They were always poking fun at the other and their playful banter was the first thing you heard from them. It was the warmest greeting she had ever known. She loved her grandfather's old war stories or just stories from his own childhood. She always thought he had the softest lap in the world and heartiest laugh that vibrated through his chest and even made Jesselynn bounce.

Her grandmother would always give her candy whenever she saw her. Her mother always worried that her daughter's teeth would rot out, but her grandmother always seemed to talk sense into her. She remembered her grandmother always trying to fix Jesselynn's hair and clean her face with her thumb that she had dabbed on her tongue. She used to hate it so, but now she'd give anything to fight with her grandmother as she brushed and pulled at her hair.

Mrs. Forrester was soon approaching her and now all she could think about was home and Justin. Would he ever know of their parents and grandparents? Of all the things she remembered, what would he remember? Would he ever know how wonderful their parents were? Would he ever remember the candy he greedily snatched from his grandmother or the way he demanded his grandfather to carry him wherever they went together? There were so many memories and so much from their family, but now they were all gone. Jesselynn wasn't able to attend her parents' or grandmother's funeral for she was still recovering from that fatal accident. She felt so guilty and so ashamed. She was terrified to visit their graves. Many people told her that she needed to and get some closure, but she was, truthfully, a coward. She couldn't do it. She couldn't face her parents' headstones knowing she was the cause.

Mrs. Forrester sighed as she looked down at Jesselynn's unlady like position and sat down beside her, throwing her skirt over her legs and crossed her ankles.

"Now, sweetheart, remember to always keep your legs together when you sit," she paused to reach out and connect her knees then bent down to her ankles, "and cross your ankles." She added as she crossed her ankles the proper way.

"I just can't do it, Mrs. Forrester! I'll never be a lady like Mama. It's pointless." She grumbled and followed her instructions.

Mrs. Forrester was silent for a moment as she realized that there was something seriously bothering the girl. She grinned at her sympathetically, scooted closer to her, and wrapped her arms around her shoulders. Jesselynn was stiff and wide-eyed when Mrs. Forrester pulled her in for a hug. It had been three years and she had only done that once: the first day she arrived at the Forrester's.

"Sweetheart, I'm so sorry. I know I used to say it all the time, but it just doesn't cover it. As much as I love you and Justin and having you here, I wish you were with your parents, too. It's all so tragic for the both of you. There's nothing I could ever say or do to make up for it, but just know I'm here for you. I may not be Mama and I could never be your mother, but I'm Mrs. Forrester and I'm always available for you." She whispered in her ear in a loving tone as Jesselynn relaxed in her arms. Her graying, curled hair fell around her shoulders and tickled Jesselynn's cheek as she cuddled the grieving girl.

Jesselynn was speechless. She had no idea that Mrs. Forrester cared for her and her brother that much. Yes, she had volunteered and battled to take custody of the two children when they had no one else, but she didn't know that the woman would actually love them. They were complete strangers. They had never heard of or seen each other before in their lives, but one day Mrs. Forrester came to visit her husband at court and heard of their case. They had been all alone and no one would or could claim them. That was when compassion ached her heart and she had her marvelous idea. Ever since, the two children lived under her promise to them and the court.

"Mama always wanted me to be a lady, too. But I couldn't. I liked to wrestle with Daddy and play in the dirt with Justin. I think she was mad at me a lot because I wouldn't listen." Jesselynn admitted as she laid her head against Mrs. Forrester's shoulder.

Mrs. Forrester pulled away from her and stroked her slightly frizzy hair back behind her ear. "Oh, Jesse, you can't think like that! I never knew your mother, but I knew she would never be mad at you. She loved you! It's so easy to tell, too. The way you and Justin both mourned over her and your father. It'd take such a great, strong love to accomplish that kind of grief. Your mother was also a very smart lady. She was trying to teach you as well like I am now. It was obvious. You're a good girl, Jesselynn, and don't you let anyone, including yourself, tell you any different." She said with a kind, sincere twinkle in her hazel eyes.

Jesselynn knew that Mrs. Forrester was just trying to help her and she appreciated that, but it still didn't take the pain and the guilt away. Jesselynn just sighed and nodded. "Do I have to start all over again?" She asked turning the conversation away from her past and parents.

She and Mrs. Forrester turned as they heard faint "thuds" and a little, labored breath come up the stairs. Justin was cradling one of the stuffed tigers that Gloria had given him on his past birthday under his arm and used the other to support him as his little legs carried him up the steep, tall stairs.

"Are…you…okay…Sissy?" He asked in a soft, labored voice as he placed his stuffed animal on the stair beside him and stood in front of Jesselynn, putting his small, chubby hands against her knees.

Jesselynn looked down at her little brother as he took a moment to catch his breath. She was surprised that he had made the effort to climb all the way up the stairs just to ask if she was alright. She grinned half-heartedly at him as he wiggled his loose tooth with the tip of his tongue, patiently waiting for his sister's answer.

"Yeah, Sissy's fine, Bubba." She replied as she wrapped her arms around her brother and squeezed him against her chest. Justin whined since she was crushing the candy he was hiding in his overall pocket.

Mrs. Forrester giggled at the siblings and stood up, straightening her skirt. "I say we take a break. Gloria was such a dear and made some peanut butter cookies and lemonade this morning for you too. Oh, we could work on your table manners, the both of you, while we eat!" She said happily as she bent down and gathered the little boy in her arms.

"Cookies, cookies, cookies! C'mon, Sissy, Glory made cookies!" Justin cheered and clapped his hands happily as Mrs. Forrester carried him the way back down the stairs.

Jesselynn sat there for a moment as she watched Mrs. Forrester and her little brother climb down the stairs together with Mrs. Forrester encouraging his excitement as they cheered together. She grinned at them and pushed herself up to her feet, pushing back her hair and not even bothering with her skirt like Mrs. Forrester did. She was still touched by her little brother's sincere concern over her.

She knew her thoughts were no lie; Justin had certainly inherited their mother's pure, caring spirit. There was no telling how many times she had yelled at her brother and told him how much she despised him, though she never truly did, yet he always seemed to overlook that. She was always Sissy in his eyes.

As Jesselynn slowly bounded down the stairs, she thought about the love she felt from her brother. She couldn't understand that kind of unconditional love. The only time she ever felt that kind of love was for her parents and her brother. Could she ever feel that again to someone besides her brother? It seemed hard.

"The last time I loved someone like that was Mama and Daddy…Now, they're dead."

The seemingly innocent thought froze Jesselynn in place; one foot on the stair behind her and the other on the next step. It all made sense now! Besides her pulling on the steering wheel, her parents' deaths were once again her fault. Tears threatened to spill over as she realized she was a curse! Her parents told her once that they originally hadn't planned to have children when they had her. They said that they wouldn't change a thing, but the only thing that stuck in her mind was the fact that she was originally unwanted. That was her curse then, wasn't it?

If she loved anyone they would die! No! She didn't want to kill someone else! Jesselynn wiped the tears from her cheeks and cupped her hands around her eyes, trying to focus. She had loved her parents and her grandparents and now she would never see them again! And her brother…

No! She was not losing her brother! She understood now. Yes, she loved her brother, but she decided that she wouldn't show it anymore. No more hugs or bed time stories about their parents. She figured her brother would hate her or be mad at her more than before now, but she didn't care too much about that. She had to keep him safe. She couldn't lose another person.

"Sissy! Quit bein' a slowpoke! I'm gunna eat your cookies!" Justin cried out to her from the bottom of the stairs. Mrs. Forrester put him down on his feet now and held his hand.

Jesselynn grinned and opened her mouth to say something, but stopped. What she wanted to say was too "sisterly". This was going to be a lot harder than what she had imagined as she ran down the stairs before her little brother actually ate her portion of the snack. She had no doubt in his snacking abilities. Especially when it came to peanut butter cookies and lemonade; his absolute favorite.

Jesselynn and Justin Thorne

"Mommy! Mommy! Where Mommy!"

Justin had been crying out for their mother for nearly an hour now as Jesselynn sat in one of the plush chairs offered to her as court was in session. They had been in there for a long time and Jesselynn was getting anxious. They had been in court deciding where she and her brother would be taken since they had no family members that could take them in or willing to take them in. There was one woman who had been battling for them for almost a month now. She just wished it was over.

She gathered her knees to her chest and rested her cheek against her knee. It still felt so unreal. She kept expecting Mama or Daddy to come bursting through the doors any minute now and take them away. Take them back home where they should be. It was all her fault they weren't there…

The next minute, sobs shook her body as she mourned her parents for the umpteenth time that hour. Justin continued his childish shriek as he screamed for Mommy. A grumpy, older woman had already been in there three times to tell them to hush. It was all so terrible! Why did this have to happen? Why did she have to try and be heroic? All she did was kill them! Nearly all three of them!

Jesselynn let out a throaty, sorrowful moan as the thought crossed her mind. She cuddled herself and tried to block everything out. The pain in her heart was unbearable and her throat felt like it was going to split in two if she kept crying. Her eyes were sore and red, but she couldn't stop. She knew she must have looked like a mess, but she didn't care. All she wanted was to go home, wherever that was now, and cry herself to sleep. She wanted to lie down and tried to sleep this nightmare away like she had been doing for a month now.

She would dream that she was with her parents at home. The dream was always a simple day, as Jesselynn would've figured it, but it was so precious to her. To see her mother bouncing a drowsy Justin on her knee as she hummed his lullaby was both beautiful and heartbreaking. She used to giggle as Justin's head would bob around, trying so hard to fight off sleep, as he cuddled himself against his mother's chest. He was so peaceful; everything about it was peaceful. Even her father as he noisily used his tools on the old cars in the garage across from their home.

Now, she was cold and shivering in an uncomfortable, scratchy chair, Justin screamed bloody murder on the little blanket on the floor he was seated on with toys scattered around him, the same grouchy woman had just came in and nearly yelled at them both, and there was some stranger fighting to take them home with her! That just made her cry and moan harder which Justin raised his voice too. The woman just, literally, growled at them and stomped out.

Justin was now standing and tried to chase after the grouchy woman, hoping he would follow her and find Mommy outside waiting for him. The woman just pushed him back and slammed the door in his face. To that, if possible, he threw a harder fit and fell back on his bottom. He was getting too rowdy and too fussy, she knew that. She tried to think of what her mother would do to calm him down.

Jesselynn's breath hitched in her throat and she was shaky as she stood from her chair and slowly walked up behind her thrashing little brother. She tried to copy her mother's kind smile as she reached down to pick him up.

"Shush, baby boy. It's going to be alright!" She said in her best impression of her mother's calm tone and went to gather him in her arms.

The second he heard Jesselynn's voice and felt her grab him, he screamed harder and kicked her arm. Jesselynn still tried to help him though she was a little aggravated by him. "C'mon, Bubby, I just wanna help you!" She said, the even tone slowly fading away as she fought with him. Justin screamed and fisted her hair and pulled with all his might.

"Agh!" Jesselynn screamed as she literally dropped him and tried to pry his fingers from her hair.
He was silent for a moment as he absorbed the shock from his fall, but soon started bellowing once he shook it off.

Jesselynn clutched her head as the pain dismissed and looked down at him. He was a sniffling mess, just like she was, and growled. "Fine! I was just trying to help you! You…You…You little…You little brat!" She hissed at him with a dark tone laced with venom. Guilt immediately burned through her entire body once the words escaped her lips. Her mother never would've wanted to hear those words from her. She'd be ashamed…

Jesselynn began to cry again, walked a few steps away from him, turned, and sat crisscrossed with her back to him. She just couldn't understand why she couldn't do anything right anymore! Her mother used to call her rotten sometimes, even if she may have been joking with her mother, but it turned out the joke was the truth! She was stubborn and didn't listen. If she had listened and just minded her own business, Mama and Daddy would still be here. She would've never raised her voice at Justin or called him such a terrible name. Her mother would've cuddled him and made him calm down.

"Sissy."

Jesselynn's sniffles faded for a moment as she heard the little voice behind her speak up. She had never heard the word escape his lips and she nearly doubted that he had. She knew it had to be him though; there was no one else in the room with her besides the toddler. She remembered her parents and her grandmother constantly drilling the name into his head, but he stubbornly refused to call her that. Until now, apparently.

Jesselynn scooted around to face the little toddler, whose face was still red from his constant screaming and crying, and wiped tears from her cheeks. "Did you call me…Sissy?" She asked pointing at her chest.

Justin's lips still wobbled as he nodded. "My sissy!"

Jesselynn couldn't help but smile at that. He had just declared her his sissy! It was such a simple, innocent thing, but it meant more than gold to her right now. She had been scared that Justin would hate her since he always seemed to cry or protest when they were together, but now he was declaring her his.

"And you're my Bubbie!" She declared in the same tone he had.

Justin smiled with a satisfied twinkle in his eye. Then, he plopped down on her lap and cuddled himself close to his sissy's chest and played with the ends of her hair that he had just pulled during his fit. "I sorry, Sissy." He apologized as he tickled her own nose with her hair.

Jesselynn just grinned and hugged him to her a little tighter. "I sorry, too, Bubbie. I promise I will never be mean to you again. I won't let you be sad again, too." She said as she rested her cheek on the top of his soft, brown curls.

Justin was silent as he yawned and buried his face into the crook of her arm. "I love Sissy." He declared sleepily as the strength from his fits were throwing themselves back at him. Neither of them had much sleep and their crying fits didn't help them either.

A content giggle escaped Jesselynn's lips. "I love Bubbie."

I know, it's been a long while! I know that I said that campaign missions were probably going to start this chapter, but this chapter has been on my mind for weeks now. I felt like it needed to be shown so you guys can see why Jesselynn is devoted to her brother and why Justin is so concerned over his sister. I just felt like these two scenes really needed to be introduced with their own chapter in this world, so please forgive me for kinda going against my word!

So, I actually have a Creative Question this time! Are you ready? Get your thinking helmets on! (I know, that was so lame, but I couldn't resist)

Creative Question: What do you think happens in Jesselynn and Justin's relationship? I have hinted a couple of times that he's out of the picture when Jessica was thinking about her unknown uncle. She thinks they fought, what do you guys think happened? Where do you think Justin and Roxanne's relationship is headed, while I'm here.

I'm so excited to see what you guys think and what you'll come up with! Please, review and answer! (I know, I'm desperate haha)
