Wow I am so overwhelmed with how many people have viewed this story already, followed, and favorited it. Thank you all so much. So, here is the next chapter. I am a busy college student, and I am trying to figure out an updating schedule. As always, I do not own these characters or this story, I am only borrowing them.
Chapter Four
Two. Two pink lines. Pregnant. I'm pregnant. Holy shit I'm pregnant, Daryl is going to be livid, were the only thoughts going through Beth's head. As soon as she looked up and saw the lines, Beth started crying. She was laying on the bathroom floor, with her head in Maggie's lap crying her eyes out.
"Shhh. Shh Beth. You gotta calm down, cryin' like this ain't good for you."
Beth gulped, "Maggie…wha…what I'm gonna do? Daryl is gonna flip."
"You don't know that…he could take this…fairly well…you never know."
Beth had stopped crying as much and was mainly just sniffling, "We…we never talked about kids before. I just figured he'd never want them after everythin' that he went through as a child."
"Well, you ain't gonna know anything till you talk to him."
"I guess," she hiccupped.
"You better now?"
"As good as I'm gonna get until I tell him, then who knows."
"I gotta ask, do you want this? Do you want this baby?"
Beth froze for a moment. Maggie had said baby. She had yet to even think the word. As soon as the word was in her head, it became a big flashing neon sign that wasn't going to go away. She did want this. This baby, hers and Daryl's. But the main problem is, would Daryl want this baby too.
It was a cool morning, winter would be on them soon. Daryl and Carl had been out in the woods for about an hour. Carl had managed to track a rabbit fairly well by himself, but he was still struggling to track deer. Ever since Lori died, Carl had grown a lot, physically and emotionally; he might never say it out loud, but Daryl was very proud of the young man he was becoming. Carl had a good mother, and Rick is a great dad, Daryl only wished that he could have had parents like Rick and Lori. Daryl was deep in thought about his dark childhood, when Carl started whispering to him,
"Are those deer tracks?"
Daryl examined the prints, "yup, good spot. See if ya can follow em'."
Carl grinned and started in on the tracks, they seemed to be headed towards the creek about a half mile north of where they were. It didn't take them long to get to the creek, and sure enough the deer was bent over drinking from it. Daryl moved to let Carl use his bow to try and shot the deer, but Carl stopped him
"You take the shot, I'm still not that good with the bow, you do it."
Daryl took aim and shot the buck right in the heart. He quickly climbed down the rocks, and slit the buck's throat, end its suffering faster, and drain the blood. It was an 8 point buck, which meant a lot of meat for everyone.
"Nice shot Daryl."
"Next time you're gonna take the shot."
"It won't be as clean as that."
"Gotta practice, ain't nobody get a perfect shot their first time."
"I guess so."
They started to head back towards home, shooting a couple more rabbits and a few squirrels on the way.
After about an hour of crying at Maggie's, Beth finally went home to wait for Daryl to get back. She brought all three tests back with her, to show Daryl so he would understand how real this was. How real their baby is. She spent the next hour or so, standing in front of their bathroom mirror trying to figure out how to tell him,
"Daryl we're gonna have a baby"
"Daryl, do you want a baby, cause…"
"Daryl, your bun is in my oven"
"Your little archer is in my abdomen"
She thought maybe adding humor to it might help, but ultimately nothing she came up with would make telling Daryl any easier. At some point she had started to pace in front of the mirror, muttering to herself, to anyone else it might seem hilarious, but Beth was far from impressed with herself right now. She felt like shit, looked like it too, and knew things were probably not going to go smoothly with Daryl. She finally stopped pacing and looked in the mirror for a second, before she lifted her shirt up to look at her stomach. Her stomach was still perfectly flat, but she knew that wouldn't last long. She debated for a few minutes about hiding the pregnancy from Daryl, but she knew she had to tell him, he deserved to know. A few minutes later she heard the front door open,
"Well, this is going to be interesting to say the least" she mumbled.
Daryl walked in the front door, and immediately noticed Beth wasn't downstairs like she normally was when he got back. Maybe she went to Maggie's he thought,
"Beth? You home?"
"I'm here, I'll be down in just a second," she called back down.
A moment later she was walking down the stairs, and Daryl was on alert instantly. She looked like she'd been crying, and was paler than he had ever seen her. He rushed over to her,
"Beth, what's wrong?"
So much for putting this off she thought, "Nothin' is wrong"
"Then why are you so pale? And why do you look like you been cryin' all day?
Well here goes nothing, "It's nothin' really. Well… it's something, but I'm fine."
"Well if it's nothin', why won't you tell me what it is?"
What could be so bad that she doesn't wanna tell me? I know nobody died while we were gone, so what else could it be? He was beyond unprepared for her answer; she looked so nervous and afraid, he just wanted to hold her, and then she said it,
"Umm…Daryl…I…I'm…pregnant."
A thousand emotions seemed to run across his face then, the main ones being shock and then anger. His jaw was hanging slightly down, and his eyes were about as wide as a baseball. Finally after a few moments he was able to grunt out a word,
"Pregnant."
"Yes Daryl," Beth breathed out.
He stood there for another moment, before he turned and stomped out the door, leaving Beth crying in his wake.
Please don't hate me, I promise the next chapter will explain Daryl's reaction, and hopefully there will be some fluffy goodness too.
