I am sorry I haven't posted sooner, it has been a crazy couple of days. However, this is a long ass chapter, so I hope that makes up for it. Thank you so much to everyone who reviewed with baby name suggestions, they were all good. I hope to get a few more please, if you don't mind. There isn't a lot of danger in this chapter, but there is fluff, bonding, and a few humor filled moments. I really hope y'all like it.
I don't own anything, but a large fear of what is going to happen this Sunday.
Chapter Ten
Five-thirty on the dot, Beth was wide awake and emptying the contents of her stomach while Daryl was getting dressed. After he was dressed he came into the bathroom to check on Beth,
"You think it's over for this morning?"
She sighed,
"I think so, but I can never really tell."
He looked at her sympathetically, they would both be thrilled when this trimester was over.
"I'll be happy when you don't have to go through this anymore."
Beth sighed again,
"But then I'll start getting fat."
He just rolled his eyes at her,
"You ain't ever gonna be fat. Pregnant and fat are different. You still gonna be the prettiest woman I've ever met."
Beth smiled her big bright smile at that, Daryl wasn't that sweet all the time, but when he was it was the most special thing to her. She waked over to him and wrapped her arms around his waist and held tightly to him.
"You gonna be careful out there today?"
He looked down at her and wrapped his arms around her,
"Always am, aren't I?"
She just chuckled lightly at that, knowing he had that stupid smirk plastered on his face. Sure enough when she looked up, Daryl had the shit eating smirk on his face.
"Maybe if you're a good boy, you'll get a treat later," she winked and smirked at that.
Beth successfully got Daryl's attention,
"What kind of treat would that be blondie?" he asked her huskily.
She shivered at his voice, it drove her crazy when he talked like that,
"I don't know, guess you'll have to wait and find out."
With that said she got on her tip toes, and pulled him down for a long, searing kiss. When they finally broke away, it took all of Daryl's will power to not pick her up and take her to bed, and have his way with her all day long. However, he knew he needed to leave soon,
"Gotta head out soon."
She pouted a little, and all Daryl wanted to do was kiss the pout away.
"I know, don't mean I like it."
He snuggled her neck a little bit before mumbling,
"Be back before too long."
She nodded, and went to get dressed quickly, so they could walk down to the garage where everyone else was gathering.
When Daryl and Beth got to the garage everyone else who was gonna on the run was gathered around, with Rick, loading weapons in to the truck, SUV, and car.
Rick started to give the last orders,
"Daryl takes the truck, Abraham and Rosita in the SUV, and Michonne and Sasha will bring up the rear. Don't take any unnecessary risks, and always watch out for each other."
With that everyone headed to their vehicles. Beth walked with Daryl over to the truck, but she wasn't expecting him to grab her into such a bear hug, so when he did, she squealed a little.
"I'm gonna miss you…both of you…" Daryl grumbled into her hair.
"We'll miss you too, but you'll be back by nightfall…I love you, and so does Archer Spawn."
Daryl smiled at her, before quickly placing his hand on her stomach for a moment, then he kissed her, and hopped into the truck.
"See you later blondie."
"See you redneck."
Then they were off, one by one driving thru the gate. Beth always worried about them on runs, but there was a lot more at risk now; Beth knew Daryl would do his best to make sure everyone made it back. She was gonna spend the day with Judith and Maggie, to keep try and keep herself from worryin' too much.
Daryl was happy that he got to drive the truck, if he wasn't ridin' motorcycles, he was always drivin' trucks. He was also happy that he got to ride by himself, gave him time to sort out some thoughts. Yesterday him and Beth were able to finally have more proof that their child was okay, well at least he or she were growin'. Daryl knew soon she'd be gettin' bigger, and it scared him. Beth getting bigger didn't scare him, it was the fact that the bigger she got, meant she was closer to giving birth, which terrified him, and then the baby being exposed to their shit of a world worried him almost as much. Daryl decided to take his mind off these thoughts for a while, by turning on the radio, maybe there would be a CD he could tolerate in. His luck was in, a Kip Moore CD was in, most people would think he was only a rock fan, but he liked country too. The song that came on described Daryl pretty well. He rolled down the window and let the breeze and the sound of the music relax him a little,
If it ain't broke, you can bet that I'm gonna break it
If there's a wrong road, I'm damn sure gonna take it
Where there's smoke, my pocket lighter sparked the fire
Where there's blue lights, just read me my rights
No, they don't make guys like me, you get exactly what you see
I come from a long line of bloodline that ain't gonna change
So, take your pistol pointing finger right off of the trigger
I know where to aim, hell, I'm to blame
Where there's a love, I tell ya, girl, I love to hate it
Where there's a do not touch, my finger print done stained it
Where there's a train wreck, sit on back and watch me crash
Where there's a what, you say, damn right I said it
No, they don't make guys like me, you get exactly what you see
I come from a long line of bloodline that ain't gonna change
So, take your pistol pointing finger right off of the trigger
I know where to aim, hell, I'm to blame
For breaking your heart, taking this living a little too hard
Drinking too much and playing too loud, where there's a scar I carved it out
No, they don't make guys like me, you get exactly what you see
I come from a long line of bloodline that ain't gonna change
So, take your pistol pointing finger right off of the trigger
I know where to aim, hell, I'm to blame
I know where to aim, hell, I'm to blame
Daryl thought if there was a song to describe his life, then that would be it. The song ended as they reached the edge of the city, he slowed down and came to a stop. Abraham and Michonne pulled up on either side of him.
Abraham spoke first,
"Let's head over to Costco, then Field and Stream, and Target. After we get what we need in those places we'll split up for everythin' else."
Everyone nodded in agreement, and quickly drove their vehicles around to the parking lot that surrounded the buildings. It was eerily silent around, Rosita was the first to comment on it,
"Alright, it is too damn quiet."
Everyone was looking around, no walkers outside, but that could change in a second.
"Ready to go in?" Sasha asked everyone.
"Let's get this party started" Abraham grumbled.
They were all anguishes, on edge, everything could go right, but one small wrong could fuck them over. As they reached the front doors, Abraham banged on them to try and draw out any walkers that could be inside, while the others stood ready incase any came out. No walkers seemed to emerge, after a few more minutes of waiting they went in, with Daryl and Michonne at the front.
"Alright, grab what we need, get it out to the vehicles, meet out front in half an hour."
Rosita and Abraham were grabbing food, Sasha was getting other supplies, Daryl went to the pharmacy, and Michonne went to grab whatever stuck out that they might need.
Daryl started dumping bottle after bottle of pills and vitamins into his bags, then gathering any other medical supplies he could find. He went to jump over the counter when he heard a loud bang, from the door behind him. Daryl bent down to look under the door, to see if he could see what it was, all he saw was one pair of feet. He got up, stood to the side of the door, slowly he opened the door, and a walker came tumbling out. Daryl quickly stuck his knife into the skull of the walker, and prepared for any more to come out. No more came out, so Daryl stepped inside. It was a small office, he guessed it was the pharmacist. It only had a computer, some books, and a filing cabinet. The books were all on drugs so Daryl grabbed them, could be helpful he thought. He decided to look in the filing cabinet, took him a couple of seconds to jimmy it open. The top drawer was just files, but the bottom two drawers had a couple bottles of jack and what looked like weed.
"Somebody was prescribin' a different kind of medicine," Daryl mumbled to himself. After raiding the rest of the pharmacy and surrounding area, Daryl headed back out to the parking lot. Everyone else was out front loading up their finds. Daryl tossed everything he got into the backseat of the truck. They took a ten minute break before heading into Field and Stream, their favorite store.
As they walked in Daryl grumbled under his breath,
"Feels like home."
They were surrounded by guns, ammo, fishing and camping equipment, outdoor clothing, and Daryl' favorite archery section. So many bows and arrows. Everyone split up again to go and gather things, and Daryl made a beeline to the bows. He grabbed six of them, several quivers, and as many arrows as he could get. Right as he was about to walk away, something caught his eye, it was a small bow, meant for a young child. Daryl stared at a minute before quickly grabbing it, his kid would have to learn eventually…
He got to the truck, and opened the tops to the floorboard storage and crammed everything in that he could. Everyone else was doing the same, shoving their finds in as best they could. They didn't want the weapons to be visible incase anyone came through.
"On to Target," Michonne said, "Rosita, Sasha, and I will cover food and toiletries, y'all head over to the electronics and outdoor stuff see if y'all can find anythin' we can use."
Daryl and Abraham nodded and walked off. They found batteries, cables, and some other useful stuff. They both grabbed a ranging collection of CDs and tossed them into their bags, might as well have some entertainment for the drive back. In the outdoor section they grabbed lighters, fire starting logs, and a couple sleeping bags. They met the girls back over in the clothing section,
"You guys should grab anything in here you like, in case the other stores are a bust" Rosita spoke to them.
Abraham nodded and went to grab some shirts, Daryl followed behind him. He found a couple different long and short sleeve shirts he liked. He grabbed a pack of boxers, and some jeans. As he was about to walk to the front, the baby section caught his eye. Abraham noticed Daryl staring at the baby section, and realized he probably didn't know what to grab.
"Come on, I'll show you," he said as he walked up to Daryl.
Daryl simply followed him,
"Alright, you grab some bottles and bibs, I'll grab some of the other stuff, then we'll move on to clothes."
Daryl nodded, and started grabbing all the bottles and bibs he saw, he grabbed a few sippy cups too, he grabbed a few for Judith too.
Abraham came back around with diapers, baby wipes, blankets, wash cloths, formula, and pacifiers.
"Let's go check out the clothes."
They found plenty of neutral outfits, but grabbed others just in case, they grabbed some bigger stuff for Judith, but they knew the girls had already gotten stuff for her. Michonne had told Daryl earlier that she'd grab stuff for Beth, and Daryl had never been more gratefully, no way in hell could he figure out for Beth would need, even with the list she gave him. Abraham nudged his shoulder,
"See a crib you like, or ya wanna wait and try the other place?"
Daryl glanced at the cribs, none of em' really stood out to him, but he grabbed a thing that said "Pack and Play," remembering it from the night before.
"Alright, lets find the others and get out," Daryl mumbled to Abraham.
Daryl was a little shocked that in the last two stores there hadn't been any walkers, made him a little weary of the other stores. The girls were already out front when they emerged out of the store, busy packing up their finds.
"Where to next?" Sasha asked.
"Let's all go in Macy's, then the boys can head to the toy store, and we can to the other small shops," Michonne suggested.
Everyone nodded in agreement, and they quickly drove over to Macy's. They got out and walked to the doors, and when Abraham banged on them, ten walkers came flying against the doors.
"There could be a lot more in there, do we wanna risk it?" Rosita asked.
"Dunno…give it a second and bang again," Daryl replied.
After a minute Abraham banged again, but no more seemed to come in.
"Alright, we'll take care of these and head in, but if we see anymore we get out," Michonne stated.
They all agreed with her, they wouldn't die if they didn't get stuff from here. The rest of their stops today would be for luxury items. Sasha opened the door and the walkers stumbled out, and they quickly disposed of them.
"Rosita and Sasha with me. Y'all get clothes for all the guys in varying sizes, we got the girls. I'll handle Beth. Make sure you get belts," Michonne ordered them.
Daryl and Abraham took off for the men's section, finding plenty of things they liked, and grabbing things they thought the others might like. Abraham broke into the display case with cologne and Daryl fixed him with a look.
"What? It's good to smell pleasant every now and then," Abraham told him.
"Makes it easy for you to be tracked," Daryl replied back.
With that said, Abraham left the cologne. They wondered over to the baby section and grabbed some more clothes for Judith and the baby. They headed back out to the vehicles to load up their loot, the girls weren't done yet. Daryl had just put the last of their stuff in the backseat, when they heard a gunshot inside. Abraham and Daryl took off for the building, to find Michonne, Rosita, and Sasha running out.
"A whole bunch of walkers were stuck in the dressing rooms," Sasha huffed out as Michonne and Rosita shut the doors, and Abraham barred them off.
"Y'all okay?" Abraham asked.
"Yeah, we're fine. Rosita got the one that was the biggest threat and then we took off. Somehow kept all our stuff with us," Sasha told the guys.
"Alright, let's make the last stops quick, and head back," Michonne spoke up.
"We're headed to the kids store, y'all go see if you find anything else useful, and we'll meet back up with ya in an hour," Abraham said.
He got in the truck with Daryl, Rosita took the SUV with Michonne and Sasha following her.
"What all we gotta get here?" Abraham asked Daryl.
"Uh, some stuff for Judith and Carl, and for the baby" Daryl replied.
They got to the front of the store, banged on the door, three walkers came up, but there didn't seem to be anymore. Abraham took care of them quickly, while Daryl stepped in to see if there were any other ones coming out. It seemed to be clear, so they went in.
"Still need a crib, play mat, and little toys…I don't know, she said like stuffed animals, things they could chew on, or hold."
"I know what she means, we'll find it. Why don't you go find a few things for Carl, and I'll start in on the stuff for the little ones."
Daryl nodded his head and walked off, he would be forever grateful for Abraham's help, cause otherwise he'd be so fucked right now. Carl had asked for a handheld game system if Daryl could find one and a few games for it. Daryl found a case with a couple of different ones, so Daryl just grabbed all of them and the games, and threw them in his bag. On his way back to find Abraham he found a bunch of stuffed animals, he grabbed a few for Judith and the baby, and a stuffed horse for Beth.
Abraham seemed to have grabbed all the clothes and diapers he could find in the baby section, along with a carrier, stroller, play mat, and an entire trash bag full of toys, that he was still adding to.
"There are some cribs back over there you should look at, I'm about to grab some books for babies, I found some in Target earlier, and a few for Carl, but I'm gonna see if they have more."
Daryl grunted in reply and went to look at the cribs, which all came up with matching changing tables. He saw one, with a dark wood finish, and he just liked it so he grabbed the boxes, and went to find Abraham.
"Man, I found you some baby bedding and you can't say no to it," Abraham said as he held up camo bedding in one hand, and Georgia bulldog and motorcycle bedding in the other. All Daryl could do was laugh and nod his head, technically they were gender neutral, plus Beth would laugh too.
"Lets get this stuff in the truck and find the girls," Daryl managed to get out between chuckles.
Abraham was still laughing too. They'd done good on this run. The bed and cab of the truck were completely stuffed, they'd be good for months. They got in and set off to find the girls, which didn't take long.
They found the girls in a little shopping area by a garage, they were outside loading up their finds.
"We found a hardware store, got some tools, and paint for you and Beth," Sasha said to Daryl.
He looked down at the assorted paint color cans on the ground and nodded to the girls appreciatively. They all knew he was still struggling with the whole situation, and were all trying to help him with it, in whatever way they could.
"Hey Daryl, go look in the garage there's somethin' in there for you," Michonne told him.
"We already got all the gas and tools we could find in there, so don't worry about it," Rosita also told him as he was walkin' away.
Daryl almost cried when he got inside, sitting in the middle of the garage was an old Harley Davidson Sportster. It was beautiful, it had been well takin' care of, and Daryl knew there was no way in hell he was leaving without it. He hopped on, and smiled a genuine smile. He wheeled it out of the garage and back over to the group.
"Somebody got their own toy today," Abraham smirked.
All Daryl could do was nod, he never thought he'd get to ride one again.
"Guess I'll drive the truck back, and Rosita can drive the SUV," Abraham said.
Everyone seemed okay with that. After they ate a quick snack and made sure they got everything they needed, they got ready to head back. Daryl was excited to show Beth the bike, but no way in hell would she be getting on anytime soon. Once the baby was here, then she could, but until then it was a huge no no in his mind. He was going to enjoy the ride back a lot more now, then he originally was. Daryl was happy that he'd been able to get everything she'd ask for, and it eased his fears a little about the baby, but he was still scared.
They all got in their vehicles, well in Daryl's case got on, and began the trek home. Daryl enjoyed the sound of the bike rumbling underneath him, and feeling the wind swirl around him. It was in small moments like this that Daryl believed that maybe things would be okay, he could feel free from the never ending nightmare for a little while.
I hope you guys loved it! It was a really long chapter! The song Daryl was listening to was I'm to Blame, by Kip Moore. It's a really good song, and Kip always reminds of Daryl. Please leave a review with more baby name suggestions.
