War. War never changes.
When the world was plunged into nuclear annihilation in the year 2077, many sought refuge from the in the safety of great underground shelters, known as Vaults. As their inhabitants set out one by one, they traded and blended into the societies of those who survived elsewhere, forming communities as they went, rebuilding from the ruins of the old world.
New York City may have suffered from the nuclear holocaust more than any other American city, but underground, in its vast subways, humanity held on. Over time, different settlements put aside their differences, coming together for the sake of the greater good. For all the devastation that it had wrought, the people of the city were prosperous for a time, until something, somewhere changed.
A plague, spread by parasitic stinging insects, arose in the communities of the subways. Over the months, it exploded; paranoia ran amok as misguided people protected their infected loved ones, and bands of mobs set out to burn and lynch alleged victims of the plague. Just as quickly as it came together, the Empire Wasteland fell back into a war-torn chaos.
Amidst the violence, a group came into the region from the West, seeking to cure the plague. They call themselves the Followers of the Apocalypse, and with their care they brought many under their banner, even if this was not their intention. The search for a true cure to the plague, however, has been long and fruitless, and the Followers have become fragmented, as trust starts to fall apart.
Yet recently, another society came, this time from the South, known as the Imperial Union. Led by an unbelievable alliance of super mutants, ghouls and humans working together, the Union has a cure in the form of the super mutant FEV, if only one which prevents one from contracting the plague at the cost of their physical humanity. The Union has waged an aggressive war with the Followers over the control of New York, as the Followers remember the time of a figure called the Master and seek to put an end to a repeat of a super mutant army, but there is a stalemate…for now.
Through all this, the mercenary group from the North known as the Gunners have profited, having claimed an unknown offshore base for their own and lending their military prowess to both sides of the conflict as they prepare for an inevitable war, trusted by no-one, yet too valuable to remove by force.
A cure for the plague may be in sight, but war? War never changes.
A mercenary arrives in the Empire Wasteland, hired to look for a girl who may be the key to this war. It is supposed to be a simple job, yet as your boat approaches the harbor, you feel that your actions will change the Wasteland forever.
