"Ugh, but Emma, can you believe the nerve of that girl? I mean like, I followed her to the library trying to be nice. I was trying to help her. And then I hear her going off about how much she hates us. You should have heard what she was saying about Florence. And talking to a Slytherin, no less!" Marlene complained.
"I don't understand why the sorting hat even put her in Gryffindor. If she hates us so much, why doesn't she just join her friends in the dungeons? She's so weird."
Yet as she said this, Emmaline turned aside and began to study the cover of her potions textbook. How many times had Marlene recounted this story? More importantly, when would the girl shut up?
The Gryffindor's prayers were answered as Lily entered the dormitory. Marlene turned bright red. L She turned around and headed straight for the girl's loo.
Lily shivered as Moaning Myrtle put a comforting hand on her shoulder. "It's alright, Lily. I didn't really have friends at Hogwarts either. In fact, I died crying about it in this very cubicle."
Several minutes into Lily's pity session, the air began to fill with smoke. Lily choked as a putrid smell filled the girl's toilet. She recognized the scent- it was a dung bomb! She and Sev had used one on Tuney. Needless to say Lily had been grounded for the next month.
The witch fled the bathroom and hurried towards the library (which had always been a place of refuge back at home), but not before spotting James and Sirius loitering outside the loo. So they were responsible! Why? And more importantly, did they see her crying? Not that it mattered, Lily thought, wiping her face with her sleeve. She had been branded a social outcast already, nothing would change that.
Remus awoke in the hospital wing. Monday morning shone through the window across from his bed. The werewolf sat up- and instantly regretted it. His body ached, and was covered in more bruises than usual.
Spending his time of the month (as the boy liked to call it) in the Shrieking Shack would be even more difficult than he'd thought. He had felt confined, and the building's proximity to the townspeople of Hogsmeade made Remus nervous.
Madame Pomfrey made her way to Remus' side of the room, which was partitioned off from the other beds to ensure privacy. She administered some medicinal marvels, and the boy's aches seemed to melt away.
Soon Remus felt well enough to stand. He stretched his (albeit still sore) appendages, and wondered how he would keep this up for another seven years. What would happen when the other kids realized what was going on? Would he be able to transfer? Would he have to drop out?
I might as well learn all that I can.
"Remus? Back already?"
The werewolf rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah. It was a pretty short visit, I guess."
"Oh."
"Did I miss anything important in class?"
"Not really," James said. "We have a potions reading. And then there's a history essay- but that's not due for weeks!"
"Oh. I guess I'll have to umm... I'm gonna go talk to Professor Binns about that. It was re- it was really great to see you two again." Remus could feel his face getting hot- he was terrible when it came to lying. He dashed out of the common room."
"Sirius?"
"Yeah?"
"It's not just me who thinks he's lying, right?"
"No James. He's definitively hiding something."
All rights are JKR's.
Sorry this update was a little short.
Next chapter will probably be a visit to Hagrid.
Thanks for reading!
