The drive home was long and quite. Neither of us talked after our small fight. By time we pulled into the drive way it was past three o' clock. I quickly grabbed my bag and jacket. I was late. I ran up to the front door and unlocked it quickly. I did not even wait for Steve.

"Adien, sweetie. I am home." I yelled right as I walked into the house. The door slammed shut, but then a second later opened again and Steve walked in. I ignored him and ran up the stairs. I opened Adien's room, only to find it empty. I started to panic. I quickly checked all the rooms upstairs. He was in non of them.

I was walking back down the stairs when I heard Steve call for me. " Claudia, Adien's down here." I quickly ran down the rest of the stairs.

"Where's down here?" I asked Steve.

"In the Basement." Steve replied.

How the hell does a five-year-old want in the basement! I thought as I ran over to the basement door. I opened the door and saw Steve walking up with Adien in tow. "You scared me, buttercup. Don't ever do that again." I told Adien as I picked him up and held him close.

"Claudia, put me down. I am not a baby." Adien said as he kicked and hit and me. I slowly put him down on the floor and watched him run to the living room. He grabbed the remote and turned on the TV. Steve walked over and sat by him. I, however, went to the kitchen to get some food.

Adien was the other foster kid that James had. But the thing was James liked Adien, a lot. Adien got everything he wanted and was never abuse. Adien has live here since he was a baby. I never understood why James hated me, but loved Adien. It never made since.

Don't get me wrong. I loved Adien and he liked or tolerated me. He never saw me get hit, but I think he knew some how. After every beating he would bring me candy and an ice pack. Sometimes he would give me his favourite bear and some band-aids. He was a sweet little thing. And he was the true reason I would never leave. If I left, James would hurt him.

"Claudia, can you get me milk, please!" Adien yelled from the living room. I grabbed a cup out of the dish washer and went over to the fridge and got him some milk.

"Come and get it." I told him as I set it on the counter closest to the living room. I heard him groan. After a few seconds he got up to get his drink.

Adien favourite person in the whole world was Steve. Sometimes on the weekend, when James worked all day and then went to the bar all night, he would come over and we would play video games all day. Those days were the best.
