I don't own One Piece! That right goes to Oda-sensei!

When we reached the pet food shop, Zoro claimed that we had gone far enough. He dumped my captain on the ground roughly. There was a dog sitting there and Luffy bounced his cage over to it.

"Doggie!" He exclaimed. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end as the dog looked at me. I stepped back a bit until I stood behind the cage.

"Neka... are you afraid of dogs?" Zoro asked me, holding in a snort. I huffed and folded my arms.

"Baka~! I AM a cat you know!" Luffy simply laughed as he poked the dogs forehead. Time seemed to stand still as we waited or it's reaction, until Luffy had a dog hanging of his hand and new teeth marks appearing everywhere. I hissed as it and turned into my cat form and ran in front of Luffy defensively as it barked and bit at him through the cage. He looked at me and backed off a step growling to it's self. I slid through the bars of the cage and into Luffy's lap. He stroked my orange fur gently and I purred.

"Thanks Neka." He whispered to me. Slowly I nodded off to sleep.

I had the same dream again. The light, the hand and the woman.

"Who are you, really?" I asked her. She smiled at me.

"All in good time, Neka. Though I will tell you this. When the time is right, you need only ask. If you need to ask, the time is not right." She smiled again as she stroked my hair. I looked at it and saw that it was orange.

"That confuses me so much, but not as much as this. Why is my hair orange!?" I shrieked, she laughed at my antics.

"It is uncanny." She said holding a piece of my hair against hers. They were the same colour orange. With that, she disappeared.

When I woke up I was being held tightly and now out of the cage in Luffy's arms. He held me securely as he kicked at this lion. I jumped out of his arms and changed back into my normal form. My hair returning to it's blue colour. I stalked over to this really ugly furry man.

"Nice costume." I said as I watched Luffy pummel this lion.

"This is manly hair!" He yelled to me before running at Luffy, only to have his face buried into the concrete. I chuckled and walked over to them. I could see Luffy's shoulders were tense as he breathed out heavily. I put a hand on his arm and he turned to me. He stood there studying me for a moment. I blinked back at him before he shook his head and sighed.

"Luffy, are you ok?" I asked him as he picked up a box of pet food from off the ground.

"Yeah, just angry, that stupid man burned down the pet food store that the dog was protecting." I frowned and took his free hand in mine.

"Come on then, lets go." I began to jog off, pulling him along with me.

When we reached the pet food store it was burnt to the ground. The dog was sat out the front of it, howling. Without realising it my tail and ears had popped out and were pinned to my head. I flicked my tail. A low growl escaped my throat and Zoro raised an eyebrow but didn't get a chance to say anything as he was ushered off into the mayor's house. I walked over to it also and popped inside.

"Hey Zoro, now that your apart of our crew…" I began as he lay down on the bed.

"What?"

"Will you tell me your backstory?" I asked in excitement and sat down at the foot of the bed.

"Now?"

"Yeah!"

"Alright but on one condition."

"What condition?"

"You answer all of my questions that I have." I thought for a moment.

"Deal!"

"Well, I never used to be a good swordsman, not even close. I challenged a dojo in my town and lost big time. To this girl a few years older than me named Kuina. She was an excellent swordswoman. I would fight and train and fight and train just to try and beat her. She was the only one besides Sensei that I couldn't beat. One night, on the night of our 1001th battle, we used real swords, I was using two and she used one. The Wado Ichimondi." He held his hand on his white-sheathed sword.

"She won…again and I can remember us both ending the battle, crying in frustration. Mine because I couldn't beat her. Her, because she was born a female, and her father would always tell her she could never become the greatest swordsman in the world. That's when we made a deal. That one of us would become the greatest. The next night she went down to the basement to clean the Wado, when she slipped down the stairs and died. Sensei gave me her sword and now, I carry both our dreams on my shoulders. I will become the greatest!" He smiled confidently at me before leaning back with his arms behind his head.

"I am sorry for your loss." I said, holding my head down. I felt a fist come into contact with the top of my head. I looked up to see Zoro giving me a slight glare.

"Don't worry about it. No sappy moments." I grinned at him. Before I had a chance to say anything there was an explosion that sent the house flying around us.

I opened an eye and pushed a piece of wood off of my chest. I looked down at my leg, it was stuck under a beam. I tried to move it only to wince in pain.

"Ow, ow, ow! Not working Neka!" I said to myself.

"Neka! ZORO! NEKA!?" Luffy called out to us.

"That sure is one way to get a man's attention." Zoro grunted, standing from the rubble.

"Over here LU!" I called out to him and watched as he scrambled his way over.

"Are you ok?" He asked me.

"Yeah, my leg's just stuck." I gave him a lazy smile as he lifted the beam and tossed it to the side. He held a hand out for me and helped me up.

"Thanks Lu!" I smiled at him and took a shaky step on it. Pain shot through it but I continued to walk and smile. As is nothing was wrong. I tried hard not to limp also. By the time we got back to the others, Nami was freaking out about the mayor and saying that he was crying.

"The party is getting interesting." Zoro smirked.

"I now know why they called you a demon." I shuddered and continued to walk the opposite way. "Come on guys! Lets not keep the old man waiting!" I yelled as we began our walk to the pub.

By the time we got there Buggy was strangling the Mayor. Luffy ran forward and grabbed the hand, ripping the two apart.

"I'm here to full fill my promise you damn clown." He spoke a smirk coming over his features.

"Strawhat! Damn you! You can't beat me!" Buggy laughed as he re-attached his hand.

"I'll kick your ASS! YOU BIG NOSED FREAK!" Zoro and I shared a look before bursting into laughter while everyone around us had his or her jaws on the floor.

"No, that's the worst thing you could have said to him." Nami muttered, fear written in her eyes.

"YOU PUNK! PREPARE FOR A FLASHY DEATH! READY THE BUGGY BALL!" Buggy shouted, tick marks all over his face. I took a step away from Luffy as the cannon was aimed. Zoro and Nami ran for cover, along with the mayor. The cannon ball was fired and Luffy inflated himself.

"Gomu-Gumu no…BALLOON!" He shouted as his stomach was pushed in and then bounced back, sending the cannon ball towards them for a second time.

"Could've warned me." Zoro grumbled as he slid a hand down his face.

"Oh, Zoro don't get your panties in a twist." I laughed.

"What are you!? You monster!" Nami exclaimed at him, stepping back.

"Oi, Nami…" I growled at her as she continued to yell at Luffy.

"What kind of freak are you?" Even though Luffy was laughing at it, I could tell it still hurt him, just like it did as kids.

!~!

"Monster!"

"Freak!"

"What the hell are you!?" The names continued as one of the children picked up a rock. Luffy was cornered at the end of town, a crowed of kids the same age as him, throwing fruits and rocks at him. Tears dripping down his face.

"Please…stop…" He sobbed as they continued to throw things at him.

"You're such a freak Luffy!" Neka heard as she walked past. As soon as she saw the scene in front of her. She knew. She knew she had to do something. She ran towards the group in front of her before kicking on of them between the legs. After that, she quickly skidded around to stand in between Luffy and the others.

"Stop!" She yelled, her arms outstretched as tears fell from her eyes.

"Neka…" Luffy breathed out as the girl before him shook from fear as well as her sobs.

!~!

"Nami! Shut up!" I yelled as I stood before Luffy, my arms slightly raised to the side. She stared at me in shock, as did Zoro. The mayor was currently knocked out from the shock of Luffy stretching.

"How would you like to be called a freak? How would you like to be called a monster?! Even though Luffy laughs…it still hurts him!" I yelled at her as she took a step back in shock. Zoro raised his eyebrows at me and Luffy put a hand on my shoulder, a small smile on his face.

"Neka I…" Nami started but I just held up a hand.

"Don't Nami, just…" I sighed. "Forget it." Luffy's grip on my shoulder tightened and I turned to face the Buggy pirates as they began to come conscious again.
