Thank you for the initial feedback everyone! Like all writers, I update faster with reviews but mostly, when the feelings hit!
spheeris1: Thank you! Hopefully I am able to maintain your attention through-out the entire ride!
SubtextRules: Hello my friend! I'm glad you like the JR/Bianca interaction. I really do believe that AMC missed the mark with what could have been their friendship, only because we all know that while JR is pretty much the devil sometimes, he has a sweet, goofy side as well. All he needs is someone to bring it out. Lol! I'm working on chapter three as I post this! Thank you again!
mudpiegirl: Never fear, it is not an unlabeled spoiler! It's actually just a passing comment showing my lack of faith of their investment in giving Bianca a legitimate romance! I was initially excited that LB and AN were writing for the show again but then I remembered, something always has to go wrong. So, no, it wasn't a spoiler. Nothing of the sort, as far as I know anyway, has been hinted at or eluded too, I just don't trust them. And since, on some shows, this seems to be the route to go(cough*reese*cough), I was mostly venting. Thank you for taking a moment to review! If there are spoilers, I make sure to mark them!
Uhm...Spoiler-ish: Gabrielle Williams-Montgomery. If you aren't sure about her parentage, it's hinted at in this chapter. Though I'm going to assume you do know all about it.
This is mostly just a filler chapter. Well, it's one of those chapters with minor details that may seem insignificant until later in the story. Now, onto chapter two!
JR sat at his desk and glanced at his cellphone for the second time in five minutes. He wasn't expecting an important call or a text, but it would be nice to receive one from a certain brunette. Finally, he sighed and slide his screen upward, scrolling through his contacts. The voice spoke on the second ring,
"Hello?" it wasn't Bianca but it was a familiar voice.
"Hey, Miranda! It's JR!" he said with a bright smile. He adored that little girl, not just because she was a ray of sunshine in his life but also because of the nine months he spent as her father. She would always, no matter what happened, be his little Angel.
"Hey, JR! Mom is outside talking to Mr. Sam. D'ya want me to get her?" she asked. It sometimes unnerved him, the level of manners that kid had. But then he remembered, she belonged to the nice Kane, not Kendall.
"No, you don't have too. Tell me, how are you and Gabby liking the new city?" he asked her. He may not have gotten through to Bianca, but he wasn't going to pass up and opportunity to speak with one of the kids.
"It's great! I made a buncha new friends at school and there's this boy in my class, Mikey, he's so gross." she said with a giggle.
"All boys are gross." he told her seriously. He could hear the eye roll in her sigh,
"You and AJ and Uncle Jack and Spike and Ian aren't gross." she ticked off. He raised an amused eyebrow.
"Of course not, we're special boys. We're family!" he said happily. She went silent for a few minutes,
"If you're family, what does that make you?" she asked curiously. He could imagine the furrowed eyebrow and the slight pout. Mostly because he witnessed it on Bianca when they were little.
"Uncle JR." he said without missing a beat.
"So AJ's my cousin?" she asked. He shrugged,
"Sure."
"Well that's weird. He feels like a brother. Kinda like Gabby, only she's actually my cousin too." she said matter-of-factly. One thing he was happy for, kids had simple reasoning. One thing that worried him, the fact that Bianca was so honest about things with them. "I have homework to do, but can you talk to us on video call with AJ and Marissa?" she asked hopefully. He found himself grinning,
"Sure can. Bye bye." he said.
"Bye Uncle JR!" she said before the line went dead. Well, he wasn't worried they had been kidnapped by zombies.
"Jennie, I'm sure this woman has stuff to do." Sam said amused as his wife continued to rattle on to Bianca. Bianca, for her part, was more amused than annoyed.
"You're absolutely right!" Jennie said horrified she'd been holding Bianca up. Bianca opened her mouth to protest but was too slow, "We'll stop by Friday night to finish out the details!" she said grabbing Sam's arm. "C'mon, dear, we have family to call." she said. Sam looked back at Bianca,
'Help. Me.' he mouthed. Bianca only laughed and walked back into the house.
"JR." JR barked sliding his phone up for an answer.
"Well hello to you too, sunshine." Bianca said not at all phased. JR brightened on his end,
"Hey! I called earlier but you were busy so I talked to Miranda for a moment." he said holding his phone between his hear and his shoulder. "What are you up too?" he asked moving around the office. Bianca sat back, her feet in her chair as she flipped through the resumes in front of her.
"Going over contra-" she stopped blinking. Maybe she was reading this wrong but...no it was right. "Contractors." she finished finally, her voice coming out slow. JR didn't notice as he was barking instructions to some of his employees.
"Are you okay?" he asked automatically. Bianca nodded then remembered she wasn't sitting in his office,
"Yes." she said simply.
"Alright, as much as I love bothering you, I have to go and have a few choice words. I'll call you in a while." he hung up not waiting for an answer. Bianca wasn't phased, ready to get her next call of the night out-of-the-way. She frowned, that made it seem like she didn't like calling her family and friends. She did. She was just surprised at what was in front of her. Though she prayed she was wrong, she had a feeling she wouldn't be.
"He-lo." Marissa chirped into her phone answering shortly after it vibrated.
"Someone's in a good mood." came the teasing voice. Marissa's smile brightened even more if it were possible. She pushed the file in front of her away and rested her forearm on the table,
"Aren't I always when I talk to you?" she asked. Marissa couldn't help but think this conversation would be better if Bianca were sitting there with her but she digressed.
"Amazingly, yes." Bianca admitted. On her end, she stood in the kitchen, pacing around glaring at a file every so often.
"So, what's up?" Marissa asked. Not that she didn't love random calls from Bianca. Actually, they usually made the following day brighter.
"Well, it's Thursday night so it was time for my weekly calls." Bianca said honestly, "Besides, I wanted to make sure you hadn't gone completely crazy, being around JR so much." she said wryly. Marissa chuckled a little,
"Not quite, but very close. Actually, I've seen more of Kendall lately so she's my current saving grace." she admitted. "Though, Bianca, could you tell her not to call me Red? I've tried, no luck." she said with a slight pout. Bianca laughed on her end,
"No can do. I tried to get her to stop calling Greenlee and garden gnome behind her back when she first met her." she said shaking her head. Marissa snorted, it actually didn't surprise her.
"Well, since it's to my face, I'll take it as a compliment." she said her voice softening, "Are we still gonna video call tonight?" she asked. The past few nights, the kids had gotten too but when it was time for one on one mommy time, Bianca always had something to do.
"Sounds good to me. According to Mimo, 'Uncle JR' is going to be on call during the kids' conversation." she filled Marissa in. Marissa frowned, not because JR would be present but...because he would be present. It was the one time she got to just look at Bianca unabashedly from the side of the monitor, but she would never live it down with him there.
"That should be fun. Sometimes, he's more of a child than they are." she joked. Bianca chuckled, but almost groaned when her phone beeped. Pulling it from her face, she smiled,
"As much as I love talking to you, I have another call coming in." she said apologetically. Marissa hid her disappointment well,
"Alright. I'll talk to you later?" she asked hopefully. Bianca smiled on her end,
"I'll even call you tomorrow to make up for our short conversation tonight." she promised, "Bye." she said ending the call. Marissa smiled at the blinking face of Bianca as the call disconnected.
