Chapter 3

Melody calmly walked down the sidewalk, carrying a towel over her shoulder. Leo followed her lead, but had kept his shirt on for the time being. Samantha started complaining that her legs were tired.

"Are we almost there?" Samantha groaned.

"Just 10 more minutes, ok?" Melody promised.

"Wanna ride on my back?" Leo offered.

"Sure!" Samantha happily agreed. Leo bent over, and Samantha quickly climbed on. Melody snorted, and rolled her eyes, but they all continued walking as if nothing had happened.

A few more minutes of walking, about 5 to be exact, and they reached another hiccup. Melody sighed, recognizing this problem very well.

"Hey, baby." A teenage boy strutted up to her.

"What do you want Dillan?" Melody glared at him.

Before answering, Dillan took his time to look her over. He smirked at the sight of her in a bikini top and bottom. Melody blushed darkly, but stood there firmly, arms crossed. "You." He answered simply. It would have been sweet, if it had come from anyone other than Dillan. However, it was Dillan, and he gave his answer with a cocky, arrogant smirk, starting to come closer to her before she even replied.

So instead of getting all misty eyed, Melody snorted and laughed. "Right, 'cause that'll happen."

Dillan's smirk faded, and he looked at her irritably. "Why? You get another boyfriend? Let me guess, santa's elf over there is the one you love?" He sneered.

Leo had kind of just been standing there awkwardly, but his eyebrows just shot straight up when he was brought into the conversation.

"He's not my boyfriend." Melody said coldly.

"Thank god. No offense, I mean, you're pretty lame and all that Melody, but a dumpster would be a better choice than that guy." Dillan, said, fingering a small tear in his leather jacket. Leo was now using all of his self control not to punch the jerk.

"Now, stop being ridiculous Melody, come on." Dillan grabbed her arm.

"No, I'm staying here." Melody said angrily, using all of her strength to try and pull away, but he was too strong.

"You're so cute when you get angry." Dillan laughed, picking her up, starting to carry her away.

Out of the corner of her eye, amidst her struggling, Melody saw Leo gently put Samantha down, and calmly walk over to Dillan. He smiled courteously, and promptly punched Dillan in his nose. Hearing a crack, Melody guessed that it was broken.

Dillan grabbed at his nose, forgetting he was carrying Melody. Leo quickly darted forward, and saved melody's head from the cement.

Dillan scrambled to his feet, clutching at his bloody nose. "This isn't over. You better hope I don't see you around, elf." With that, he ran off.

Melody sighed, and picked up her towel. Leo picked up Samantha, and Samantha grabbed his towel, and her towel. With everything back in place, they began marching to the pool.

"So who was that?" Leo asked curiously.

"My ex." Melody answered quickly.

"The one who threw you in a pool?"

"Yep."

"Why'd you guys break up?" He asked curiously.

"Because, well…At school, well, I used to be popular, and so Dillan thought it would bring up his popularity by dating me. I was just a trophy to him, all he wanted to do was make out with me, and show me off, and show me off by making out with me. Basically those two reasons were why he dated me. And not only that but he cheated on me with some trashy fake blond. There are plenty of other reasons but those are the main ones. Oh wait! Here's my favorite one. He went around school one day saying that he easily convinced me to-to do some inappropriate stuff with him, and because my school is stupid, everybody believed it, and my teachers had a freaking meeting with my mom, and do you know how hard it was to convince her he was lying?" Melody said furiously.

"Nice guy." Leo raised an eyebrow. "Why the hell did you ever get together with him?"

Melody turned red, and mumbled out an answer.

"Sorry?" Leo grinned.

"Because I thought he was cute, and he made my problems go away, and as long as I didn't break up with him, everything was fine." Melody stared at her feet, still walking to the now visible pool.

"Ah." Leo nodded, tinkering with something in his hands.

Leo, Melody, and Samantha finally walked through the pool gate, and gleefully noticed that nobody was at the pool. Samantha climbed off Leo's back, and cautiously dipped her toe in the water. She shrieked loudly, and ran back over to the shaded sitting area. "It's too freaking cold, I'm staying right here." Samantha stated.

"Have fun!" Melody said, dipping a foot in the water. She stifled her own shriek, and took another step, before getting out of the water.

Suddenly her body went weightless for the third time today, and then she felt extreme watery cold all around her. She pushed up from the bottom the pool, and emerged shivering, and gasping for air.

"Y-You d-douchebag." She shivered.

He merely laughed, and took his shirt off. He laid down on the edge of the pool, and relaxed, his eyes shut. Melody saw her opportunity, and dove under the water, silently swimming towards him.

Like an alligator emerging from the water and grabbing hold of prey, Melody emerged and grabbed hold of Leo's arms, and dragged a yelling and kicking Leo into the water. Once he was in the water, she quickly dunked him under. After a minute or so, melody quickly let him up.

"You're gonna get it. I'm not Percy freaking Jackson, you know." Leo grumbled.

"Who the hell is Percy Jackson?" Melody frowned.

"Oh…um…no one…bit of a tosser really…" (I'm going to favorite you if you know where that quote is from.) Leo grinned.

"Right." Melody crossed her arms. Then suddenly her mouth dropped open, and her arms fell limp.

"What?" Leo asked, alarmed. Melody found herself unable to speak, and so she pointed.

On the other side of the pool, the water was turning murky, and was bubbling and frothing. Suddenly two enormous tentacles rose out of the water.

Surprisingly, Melody stayed calm, Leo stayed calm(though he was swearing quite a bit), and Samantha remained ignorant.

"Samantha, take my keys and run home, ok?" melody said, slowly approaching the edge of the pool with Leo, trying not to make any ripples.

"Why?" Samantha demanded. Then her eyes lit up. "Look, someone forgot their floaty toy!" she squealed.

"Samantha, listen to me. I am being extremely serious. We are in danger, but I want you to be safe, so take my keys, and go home. Lock the front door, with all of the locks, then run up to your room with Mommy's special knife, and go home. Ok?" Melody instructed sternly.

"Ok, Melody. I love you." Samantha said fearfully. She turned around, and grabbed the keys, and ran.

Melody turned back around, and saw that the kraken had gotten much closer. She and Leo shared a look, and they both knew that they couldn't escape.

"Get behind me." They both said at the same time. They both frowned. It was like looking at a mirror.

"Like hell. I'm fighting." Melody looked at him, daring him to argue.

"Look, I can't get you killed, so-" Leo began.

Melody furiously tapped on her necklace, revealing a beautiful sword. The amazing thing about her treble clef necklace was that it not only altered her singing voice to enchant the opponent, but she could also "tell" the necklace to turn into a magical sword. It had a special blade…the center was made of frozen river styx water, and the second layer was stygion iron, and the top coating was celestial bronze. That way, if one layer got, say bitten off, she would still have a deadly weapon. If a monster somehow lived through the stygion iron, it would have to deal with river styx ice, which would erase its memory. And because her favorite color was silver and blue, the handle was a metallic light blue color, and the blade was spray painted silver.

She pointed it at Leo, an inch away from his bare chest. "I am going to fight, whether you like it or not." She hissed.

Before he could continue arguing, she dove under water, and got a glimpse of the monster's mouth…she felt like fainting. It had rows and rows of disgusting teeth with bits of flags, fish, and boat bits hanging from it.

"We have to attack its mouth!" Melody shouted, gagging on the now-foul water.

"Only if you say please!" Leo said, whacking at one of the tentacles with a chain saw. Gooey greenish gray blood splattered everywhere, and the kraken howled in pain.

"One…two…three….PLEASE!" Melody said. Leo grinned cheekily, and they both charged towards the mouth.
