Ryan's POV
I found myself in a dark room; I looked around but couldn't see anything until a small light turned on and a brunette girl standing under it, looking down.
"Hello?" I asked, but received no reply. The girl just stood there, and began to cry. I began walking towards her and asked. "What's wrong, are you okay?"
"I'm not sure, you tell me." She replied as she raised her head, I recognized her immediately.
"Shannon?" I said as I stared at her, she had deep knife wound on her neck and was wearing jeans and a white t-shirt; stained with blood.
"Why Ryan, why didn't you save me?" She asked.
"Shannon I tried but it was too late." I replied.
"It was too late or you just didn't care enough to save me?" She replied
"Shannon I cared about you, more than anything in the world. I tried everything that I knew but… it was too late." I replied as tears started to form in my eyes and a sob escaped my throat.
"Where were you Ryan, Why weren't you there when I needed you?" She asked as she faded away and the light disappeared.
"Shannon?" I looked around and not being able to see her. "Shannon!" I yelled out.
Normal POV
Ryan quickly sat up in the bed, breathing heavily and was sweating all over. "It was only a nightmare." He said to himself as he lay back down.
He heard the door opening and started to get up again, his mother came in. She saw he was awake and hurriedly asked, "Ryan what do you think you were doing? Why didn't you talk to me about how you were feeling? Do you know what you put me through?
Ryan looked away not being able to look at her. Margret sat down on the bed, then hugged him and said, "Don't ever do that again, I don't need to lose both of my children in the same year."
He hugged her back, began to cry and said, "I'm sorry mom but I wanted to be with Shannon, I feel like nobody likes me here."
Margret broke the hug and said, "Don't ever think that Ryan, I love you no matter what. You're still here because of people who care about you, your friends saved you." she stated as she started to examine him.
Ryan sat quiet for a moment. "Why would they save me?" He mumbled to himself.
"What was that?" she asked.
"Nothing, anyway where am I."
"You're at Danville hospital; you've been asleep since you got here." She said as she continued examined him then asked, "Are you okay you're sweating."
"Yeah, I'm fine; I just woke up from a nightmare that's all. What time is it?" Ryan asked.
She looked at the clock above him and said, "It's 9a.m. Saturday morning."
"How did I get here? The last thing I remember was being put in an ambulance, after suicide attempt." He asked.
"You were fighting the paramedics so they had to give you a sedative so you would calm down and sleep. Ryan you've heard of PTSD right"
"Yeah, isn't it when your mind can't handle a traumatic experience, though what does it have to do with me? I thought only soldiers who have been in war suffer from it." He replied
"They are the most likely to, but in your case it is because of what happened to Shannon. I'm going to guess that your nightmare was about her death?" she asked.
Ryan nodded his head, more tears starting to form in his eyes and said, "I miss her so much mom."
She gave him another hug and said, "I do to Ryan. Unfortunately we can't change what has happened. I know that she's watching over us now, being our guardian angel."
He nodded again and gave a small smile then asked, "How long do I have to stay in the hospital?"
She continued, "You're going to be here for a few days. Your doctor needs to run some tests. You're also on suicide watch, so a nurse will be coming in every 20min to check on you. He's also prescribed an anti-depressant, so you shouldn't feel as sad.
"Oh, man" He moaned.
"By the way your friends were here asking about you. I told them to come back today to see if you were alright. Why didn't you tell me you had friends?"
"It's a long and complicated story, basically I tried to avoid them so I wouldn't accidently hurt them because of my reaction to people touching me. I was also afraid that they would be like all the others and betray me later." He then smiled slightly and continued; "Now I can see that they are my friends, they saved me."
She smiled and said, "I got the chance to talk to them while you slept. They told me about what happened over the course of the week. They are all very nice, I'm glad to see that they care a lot about you, especially Katie."
Ryan cheeks turned a light pink and groaned, "Mom."
She laughed and said, "I'm just teasing you, well I better get ready for the day." She kissed his cheek and got up. As she opened the door she said, "I'll come by later to see how you are doing."
"Thanks mom."
Ryan's POV; several hours later.
After Dr. Simon finished his mental evaluation tests on me I was in my room thinking to myself as I stared out though the window. It was raining outside right now. I sat on the bed hugging my knees to my chest. It's about the only thing to do besides watch T.V. I sat in thought; I still can't believe that they stopped me. They really do care about me; I guess I might be able to trust them. I was brought out of my thoughts when I heard the door open.
A nurse came in and said, "Ryan, you have several visitors."
"Who are they?"
She replied, "Four of your friends, they said that they helped you at the park."
I smiled and said, "I'll see them." As she exited the room I turned to the window again and thought, I'm going to have a lot of explaining to do.
