Everything was cloaked in darkness, before he was suddenly met with a blinding light. His vision blurry, Ant stood, surrounded by the still-burning ruins of the familiar town of Solstice. Did I do this? He scanned the destroyed town, observing that many buildings and other structures had been turned into dark-gray ashes. Another thought crossed his mind, and it worried the pryomancer. Where is everyone, anyway!? As if on cue, he heard a feeble moan come from one of the remains of a building, which was unrecognizable due to the severe damage it had gone through. However, when Ant tried to move, a sharp pain shot up his leg, restricting his movement. So instead, he crawled over to the source of the sound, walking normally whenever his injured leg allowed it. As he approached the wreckage, he noticed that a Minecraftian, still alive, was pinned under a pile of wooden planks.
It was surprising that they hadn't caught on fire yet, but Ant didn't have any objections to it. Although it took most of his already-faltering strength away, he managed to pull the Minecraftian out of the broken remains of what had seemed to be the structure's ceiling. When he got a glimpse of the barely breathing Minecraftian, his dark brown eyes widened in shock. A horribly burnt and badly injured GrailMore lay before him, unmoving. "My gods..."
Another surge of pain stopped the Minecraftian in his tracks. Images of his friends being struck down by the Dark Legions formed in his mind, each one more gruesome than the last. After the flow of images faded away, he stood with a somber expression. He felt anger flare up inside of him, especially from the man who constantly appeared in the mental images. Aero. Ant narrowed his eyes, which had changed to a firey red-orange color. He would avenge his friends, even if it was the last thing he did. The Commander would die by his hands, and no one else's. A gun shot pierced the air, but before the pryomancer could react, he dropped to his knees beside Grail, crimson blood already beginning to ooze from the wound. He looked behind him, only to find Aero's midnight-black eyes staring back at him. Ant glared, trying to ignore the pain of the gun shot. "Damn you..."
Ant shot up from his bed, a flicker of horror in his chocolate-brown eyes. The sound of his rapid heartbeat pounded in his ears, but steadily returned to normal. At this point, he was assuming that it was just another nightmare, as he had started receiving them constantly in the past few days. But the thought of Solstice burnt to the ground, along with the deaths of his friends worried the pryomancer. It had seemed so real, almost as if the startling event had actually occurred. Ant let out a deep sigh. It had been almost two weeks since Sparklez and himself had left the town. Multiple thoughts swarmed him at once, almost all of them leading back to the nightmare that the Minecraftian had just experienced. "It's almost as if-" His blood immediately ran cold and his voice faltered. "-it's a premonition of some sort..."
He got up, but was abruptly halted by an overwhelming sense of fatigue. It felt almost as if he was about to pass out again, like he had shortly after calling upon the immense inferno during the attack. Regardless, only one thought was pulsing through the Minecraftian's mind. He had to get to Solstice. Ant struggled to remain concious, as he put all of his focus into doing so. However, his vision continued to fade into darkness, as he was helpless to stop it. No... I don't want to face another nightmare... please... Against his silent pleas, the world around him proceeded to grow darker, increasingly faster now. He fell to the floor, weakly holding himself up. Ant was determined to fight the tempting urge to close his eyes and submit to the shadows, but it was to no avail. Just as everything was about to fully fade into black, Ant caught a glimpse of his older brother and reached out towards him. "Anti..."
The assassin's red eyes moved towards Ant at hearing his younger brother call out his name. He then lifted his hand in a quick gesture, causing the shadows that were slowly consuming Ant's perception of reality to speed up the process, sending an unbearable surge of pain through the pryomancer. The effected Minecraftian tried to scream, but could barely muster even the slightest sound. After the surge of pain had left, the pyromancer deeply gazed into the other's eyes, silently begging for an answer as to why his own brother would do this to him. The eldest turned away, unable to look at Ant in this condition. However, he knew it was for the younger Minecraftian's own good. He had to know the real truth, not just the lies he had been altered to believe. It just wasn't right, having someone live their life, not knowing that their life was all but lies. Anti kneeled before his younger brother, whose consciousess was dwindling at the moment. Glazed-over brown eyes met faintly glowing red for a few moments. "It had to be done," Anti expressionlessly muttered, just loud enough for the other to hear, "Please, forgive me."
The cloaked pryomancer set two fingers on his brother's forehead and murmured something in Ancient Minecraftian. He stood and watched as the light died from his brother's eyes. Although it appeared that he was dead, the younger of the two had merely slipped into a temporary comatose state as his breathing began to slacken, before giving out completely. The next thing he knew, the Minecraftian was surrounded by empty space on all sides, endlessly falling. His eyes were half-shut, only to fully open as the darkness was swiftly replaced with light. Ant was blinded for a few seconds before the light levels finally adjusted to normal, allowing him to take in the setting. Through blurry vision, he was able to make out three figures; one of a child, another of an adult, and the third lying on the ground, unmoving. Although he wanted to call out to the group, something held him back. A soft voice spoke in his head, telling him to quietly wait as the scene unfolded. His vision steadily began to clear up, permitting the pryomancer to fully observe the group, which to his surprise, consisted of his father, himself as a child, and a female Minecraftian whose face was hidden to him.
The child lightly shook the senseless Minecraftian, as if to hopefully get a response. "Mommy! Mommy, wake up! Please!"
Another shake proved useless, as her eyes continued to be shut. The young Minecraftian beside her fell silent, struggling to hold back tears. He faced his father with watery eyes. "Daddy, why isn't Mommy waking up?"
StarkVenom's bright green eyes shifted their gaze away from his son and wife, a somber expression on his face. Ant's younger self looked at the smoldering ground as a twinge of fear passed through him. "She's not gone... is she?"
His father remained silent, unsure on how to answer his son's question. Instead, he sat down next to Ant, releasing a faint sigh as he did so. He had to stay strong in front of his son. The child kept staring at the ground, refusing to look at anyone. Regardless, he could barely see through his eyes as streaks of water began to stream down his face. He clung to his father, shaking from his sobs. "Why? Why did they have to take Mommy away!?"
As a mere bystander in the situation, the present-day AntVenom could only watch as the enviroment around him began to intensify in brightness, until the setting faded away completely. When he was finally able to open his eyes again, it seemed as if his perspective was in first-person, instead of the third-person he was previously in. Similar to before, the now seven-year-old pryomancer found his sight blurred, yet it did not improve after a set amount of time like it had earlier. Through his unfocused vision, he managed to spot black lines of varying thicknesses, which he assumed were wires, that originated from small gaps in the walls and lead directly to, at least from what it looked like, himself. Ant tried to move, but his attempts were useless, as it appeared that he was frozen to the spot. Even with his loss of mobility and weakened eyesight, the Minecraftian was still capable of hearing the somewhat muffled voices of his captors from outside of the strange chamber that he was confined in.
"So the boy's parents have been eliminated?"
There was a brief pause, as if another person gave the man speaking a quick nod.
"Very good. With them out of the way, the experiment can continue without interruption."
Experiment? What do they mean by that? Before he could do anything more, all signals to and from his mind abruptly cut out, effectively causing him to black out. After what felt like hours, Ant's conciousness slowly returned to reality. Unfortunately, he was still locked into the unresponsive state from in the chamber, unable to move even the slightest amount possible. A few figures in what appeared to be white lab coats crowded around something on the other side of the room, blocking Ant from seeing what it was. As they moved away, the being, in a similar position as him, came into focus. A wave of shock overwhelmed the pryomancer. The person he thought to be his older brother was just a copy of himself, with his age increased by a small margin and his eye color altered. Anti was, in a single word, a clone. Ant refused to believe this, but the evidence was right in front of him.
And for the second time that day, the pryomancer awoke with a start. He immediately brought a hand to his head, as disbelief overtook him. "There's no way that it happened... It's not possible..."
Bright red eyes studied the overwhelmed Minecraftian in silence shortly before the man they belonged to broke the chilling silence. "Oh, but it is. The truth can be quite harsh sometimes."
Ant lowered his hand and proceeded to glare in the direction of the voice. His older brother then stepped out of the shadows of the large room, and stopped as soon as seeing the anger in his sibling's eyes. "Now, for what reason would you be mad at me?"
"You lied."
"About being your older brother?"
The younger of the two pyromancers narrowed his dark brown eyes into slits in response to the question. Anti simply gave a shrug. "It's somewhat accurate, isn't it?"
Before the other could answer, the older Minecraftian continued his argument. "You don't even know if what you saw was real," he stated with a smirk, "I could easily be tricking you."
Ant, now standing face-to-face with Anti, kept his cold stare, not easing up for even a moment. "Go on. Prove it."
"With pleasure."
Without any delay at all, the assassin pulled back his hood and slid down his facemask. Sure enough, Anti appeared to be a mirror-image of his brother, with the exception of the different eye color and slight variation in hairstyle. "See? I'm you."
Ant cast his eyes away from his brother, unsure on how to respond to this news. "Why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"Some things are better unsaid until a later point in time."
The room grew completely still for several moments, until it was broken by the sound of the younger pryomancer dropping to the floor, only to be caught by his brother, or more accurately, his counterpart. "Don't push yourself. You're still drained from earlier."
Weakened, the Minecraftian could only muster a slight nod before going limp in Anti's arms and blacking out. In response, a faint smile crossed the eldest's face as he set his so-called brother back on the bed. Shortly after doing so, Anti's facial expression swapped to that of a frown. He was just the result of an experiment gone wrong, just a nobody compared to an actual Minecraftian. He shook off the thought and walked towards the door, glancing back at Ant as he was about to leave. There were still quite a few things that still hadn't been revealed to him yet, as this was only the beginning.
(A/N: Sorry for the late/kinda short chapter. I got quite a bit of writer's block after the whole 'revealing that Anti is a clone blah blah' part. Thankfully, it was shattered by Au5 & Fractal's Secret Weapon that was released on Monstercat yesterday. Who knew dubstep could be so amazing? I mean, really? I didn't get to write anything on that day though, which is why this chapter is going up today instead of yesterday. So yeahhh... I also got an idea for a scene in Voices From Beyond, which is going to be the sequel of FW. (CaptainSparklez fans, I am pleased to tell you that he is, in fact, the main protagionist.) Anyways, that pretty much wraps up this chapter. Until then! (If you guys can guess which YouTuber uses that as their outro-message-thingy, you get a free Chibi of choice. *picks up a ton of Chibi YouTubers*)
Jeff's Icy Dragon of Minecraft asks this to Aero: Why do you work for Hero? He can be a real jerk.
Aero: Why do you think I work for him? It's all for revenge, pure and simple.
NinjaStarCraft asks mehself/my character this: Hi! Do you like French toast?
Both of us: French toast!? Omg, where? (Pretty sure that answers your question.)
Willowwhisker asks this kinda important question, which is directed to Sparklez: So, if you had run into Rain, or anyone else who had nothing to do with you being bullied, while you were in your angry-rage-revenge-kill, Kill, KILL!" state, would you have attacked them as well?
Sparklez: I wouldn't really describe it as that, but yes, I would, in fact, attack them, as I have no control over myself at that point...
