Laura watches Alice jump off the overpass, leading the being away from them. Laura can't help the small feeling of her growing in her chest as she follows the two women and not Alice. Jill quickly finds a truck that isn't too damaged, and gets in the drives side while Terri gets in the passenger's seat, Laura staying outside of the vehicle, as Jill tries to hot wire the car, keeping an eye out for danger. Jill leaves the driver's side door open while she tries to start the car.
"Look I'm sorry about your friend." Terri says, Jill nodding her acceptance.
"Let's just get to the school and find this kid." Jill responds, finally getting the car started. Laura sees Peyton's body try to jump into the car, and grabs the back of his vest, throwing him away from the door. She quickly brings up her submachine gun and fires a round into his head. Jill nods at Laura, knowing she probably wouldn't be able to shoot her friend, and closes the driver's door. Laura jumps into the bed of the truck and taps the roof. Jill starts to drive slowly, avoiding cars and other obstacles, and makes her way to the school. Laura looks around looking for anyone, dead or alive. She can hear five heartbeats close, she knows two are in the truck, one is hers and one has been following them. She sees a black man wearing an orange jacket run out into the road.
"Stop," she hears Terri shout from inside the car, Jill breaking hard.
"Im not one of those things," the man says as he approaches the driver's window, making Laura furrow her eyebrows. They could see he wasn't one of them. Running wouldn't exactly be possible if he was. He doesn't smell like decay, so she knows he isn't infected. "Hey, remember me? Look I haven't been bitten or anything. Look." He says pulling his jacket down and turning so they could see his neck.
"He's good," Laura calls out, signaling he isn't infected, her voice causing the man to jump in surprise.
"Climb aboard." Jill tells him, which he does quickly with a smile.
"Lloyd Jefferson Wade," he introduces himself, "you can call me L.J. on account of the informal situation." Jill takes off, continuing on towards the school. Laura knows three of the heartbeats are in the truck, but another one seems to be getting closer. She readies her weapon, not knowing if its friend or foe. Someone drops off of a building and lands gracefully in front of the truck, showing the persons alive, but causing Jill to slam on the breaks after gaining too much speed. The car suddenly stops, but the momentum makes Laura be flung out of the back of the truck, over the hood of the car, and crash into the figure.
"Oomph," Laura crashes into the figure, knocking both of them down, and hitting her head on the road. The figure that Laura landed on feels like a female, but stronger. She smells the same thing on this figure as she did with Alice, knowing the person was injected with the virus, but is not mutating. She jumps up, only to stagger and fall back down. The figure moves faster than a normal human could, and catches Laura before she could fall. Jill quickly exits the truck and approaches the two figures. The person who dropped down in front of them was too graceful to be an undead, but she rested her hand on her weapon anyway. She sees Laura jump up, only to stumble and start to fall. She walks towards the two women, seeing the figure better as she gets closer. The woman looks to be Hispanic, and only a little shorter then Jill, but almost two inches shorter than Laura. The woman was supporting Laura, who seemed to be in a daze, while wiping some blood from the girl's forehead.
"Who are you?" Jill demanded, walking closer to Laura to check her injury.
"Rain?" Laura mumbles, her eyes unfocusedly staring at the stranger. The woman, who is cradling Laura to her chest, looks relatively unharmed by Laura's unexpected take down.
"Glad you remember me, but next time let's wait for the car to stop before you say 'hi'." Rain tells her smirking, and then turns to Jill. "And you are?"
"Jill, now let's move we don't want to attract too much attention and we could use your help." Jill tells her, while walking back to the truck. Rain helps Laura back to the truck, but puts her in the back seat with LJ and climbs in after her. Terri turns around with her camera, and catches the gash on Laura's head mending itself together.
"That's nasty," LJ comments, looking away from the healing wound, as Laura shakes her head. She was trying to clear her head, so she can focus on the task at hand, but noticed Terri still pointing the camera at her. She growled deep in her throat, warning the woman to turn around, which made LJ scoot further away from her. Terri seemed to give up, turning around with a huff, not understanding why the girl wouldn't want to be filmed. Rain placed a calming hand on Laura's shoulder as they pull up to the school.
"Where's Alice?" she asks, remembering seeing her with the group before she lost sight of them.
"She had to deal with something," was Laura's reply's she looks over the vehicle in front of the school is a police K-9 unit van that probably held two to four dogs in it before they got loose, evident by the cages being torn open. Laura takes the lead, with Rain a step behind. The other members of the group followed them in, and then stopped behind them as Laura looks around. The hallways are surprisingly clear of bodies and blood. Jill scans the hallway for any threats with her weapon out, while Rain upholsters a M1911A1 strapped to her thigh.
"We're gonna have to split up to search this place," Jill tells them, only for Terri to disagree with her.
"Forget it. Forget it! I'm not going out there by myself."
"I can go with you," LJ tells her, only for Rain to take over leadership.
"Jill take the basement, you two," she points to LJ and Terri, "Take the first floor. Laura and I will handle the second." Jill takes another S&W 5946 from her shoulder holster, and hands it to Terri.
"I've never shot a gun before," Terri tells Jill looking slightly overwhelmed.
"There's nothing to it, try to hit them in the head." Jill tells her walking off towards the stairs that lead to the basement.
"Point and pull the trigger. Oh and don't hold it too close to your face. I would hate to have a broken nose mess up that pretty face of yours." Rain says as she walks off, causing Laura to follow.
