Alright, this isn't a chapter so much as the first chapter written again and elongated...I'm working on the story, but time stuff. So take this for now and hopefully there's some more later. I am NOT Abandoning this story...I just have like 10 others I'm trying to update at the same time while being in college so it's a bit hectic. Hope you enjoy

Contrary to common belief, Donnie was a very intelligent boy…O.K. maybe not the intelligence most people think of, but he was smart enough to figure out what he could. He knew how to put on clothes, even though he didn't. He didn't concentrate long enough to only speak one language though he understood most of what was being said to him, he lacked the care to try and figure out how to respond. He'd realized that the one called Eliza could talk to animals, he knew he was stronger than the monkey, he recognized the screeching from the one called Debbie was also his name-jungle boy. He recognized how best to scare an animal on the off chance he wasn't stronger than it, and which fighting styles worked best on what type of animal. He had also figured out what he liked; what bugs tasted the best and which berries gave him indigestion. Yes, Donnie was smart.

Donnie also got confused, he was only human. But unlike most humans, his brain worked at such a speed that he processed what was and was not working in order to simplify the situation. Donnie did not understand things like 'tact' and 'social protocol' it was why he handled things the way he did, and he was often right to rush in even if he was confused. When he'd first seen the boy, he'd found him interesting, and assumed it was the clothes. So he'd followed him. When the boy had taken his clothes off to wash them he ran to them and (after toying with the boy a bit) took off with them. He put on the clothes trying to be as interesting as he'd found the boy. When that didn't work, he'd tracked the boy's sent, finding the ones that had his smell on him. He lived the boy's life for a while, before deciding that it wasn't for him, nor was it what made the boy so infuriatingly interesting. As his attention span shorted out, he forgot about it until he saw the boy again.

"Hey! Gimmie back my clothes, I don't like bein half nakie!" Donnie took a good long look at the boy…as much as he could look with the glasses ruining his vision. The boy has crazy red hair, it's what had grabbed Donnie's attention in the first place, it was only now that he realized exactly how well it suited him. It was a fire against snow white skin. And he had little…things across his face. He wanted to press at them, but the look on the boy's face, though adorable, was usually followed by yelling and other shows of 'anger'. He got what he wanted; he knew why the boy was interesting. He gave him a roguish smile and obeyed the command.

He kept the shoes. They were a bit nicer to his feet and it was troublesome to switch them…at least, that was the excuse he'd give if anyone bothered to ask. The truth was that he never wore them, he also never returned them. They were in the back of his space, along with the shorts the boy had worn. He sniffed at them until the smell was gone. Even then, he kept the shoes to stare at. They weren't quite the right color, but they did their job; remind him of the boy. Their parents even stayed in contact with each other.

When Eliza went to college, she brought Donnie and Darwin with her. Darwin because she didn't know what she'd do without him, Donnie to try and civilize him a bit, as it seemed he had gotten worse rather than better (and that he talked animal more than English and so she was the only one that could understand him). They were currently living Drew and Charlotte's guest house. Donnie was currently still being homeschooled, nothing could make him wear a shirt and shoes for extended periods of time, and the school wasn't budging on the rule. Eliza had assumed that he was being shy, so she'd arranged a slumber party for him with about five people from his grade level. Then Angelica had found out, then she'd invited herself and a few friends…then her parents had found out she'd invited herself, so they made her invite her cousins and their friends.

"This is a bad idea" She shushed Darwin

"This is a great idea…he's just shy"

"Shy? SHY!? Eliza he isn't shy he's psychotic"

"Darwin" She chided. The chimpanzee pouted at her, crossing his arms and huffing.

"I still say the boy's a menace and this is a bad idea." Donnie screeched at Darwin as he bounded into the room, not actually saying anything, just a screech. It was effective for what he wanted it to do; Darwin scrambled up the bookcase and was currently hugging the moving ceiling fan for comfort. Donnie cackled madly, falling over.

"Donnie" Eliza warned. He raised an eyebrow at her, grin still on his lips, though he stopped laughing. The doorbell rang. "O.K. guys remember—there are three people from Donnie's grade level, two people from the school itself Angelica, her friends, her cousins, and their group of friends. We can do this!" Donnie nodded to her, at her glance so did Darwin. As Eliza went to get the door, Donnie bared his teeth at Darwin while she wasn't looking. The primate whimpered and clung to his refuge even tighter. Donnie smirked again. Three kids walked in, two girls and a boy. Donnie looked at them, trying to remember what language he's supposed to be speaking in order to say 'hello'. He rolls up to a sitting position. The boy speaks first, though it's not directed at Donnie.

"WHOA! Dude, a monkey" He pointed toward the ceiling, where Darwin had moved to inch down. The dark haired girl shoved the boy with a hash 'Philipp', which might have been his name. He shoved her back with a 'Lillian'—just as harshly. The dark skinned girl pulled them off of each other, before turning to Donnie.

"Hi, sorry about them, my name's Suzy. Who are you?"

"I'm Donnie, nice to meet you Suzy" Darwin hit his palm to his forehead, Eliza ran out in front of him.

"Sorry, I didn't mention that. He knows…a lot of languages. Not all of them are human. The two that were previously shoving each other stared at him; Suzy had taken a step back. He'd spoken leopard.

"What did say?" 'Lillian' asked, more than a hint of fear tinting her voice.

"He said, it was nice to meet you" The two related ones glanced at each other, speaking without speaking, as twins were want to do. 'Suzy' gave a brave smile. She extended her hand, and was surprised when he shook it back. Not because he'd shaken her hand, but because he'd rolled unto the balls of his feet and stayed in a crouched position. She was surprised both by his flexibility and the fact that he didn't go standing. She went through the rolodex of animals in her mind trying to figure out which one did that as a position…and more importantly if the position was attack or friendly. He gave a sort of feral grin, then continued speaking, this time in a series of hoots and growls. Whatever he said, Eliza didn't like it, as she scowled at him rather than translate. He laughed back at her, a wild cackle. She would have said something else, but the doorbell rang again and she went to get it. When she came back with three girls, Angelica and her friends, the boy was trying to coax Darwin down with a chocolate bar. The girls instantly swarmed to Suzy, and Lillian went with them to the other side of the room. Donnie was sitting alone on top of one of the bookcases in the room. Eliza had to hold back a snicker as it seemed Darwin was weighing the options in his head of being that close to Donnie vs. the strange new boy with candy. Before she could go in and handle the situation, the doorbell rang again. The three boys she'd invited from the school were there now. 'Phillip' seemed more content with messing with Darwin, the girls had claimed their own little corner, the new boys were hovering by the food, and Donnie seemed to be taking a nap to everyone else. Eliza could tell that if he had a tail, it'd be swaying—he was looking for potential threats. Eliza sighed, at the very least; people might be nice to Donnie if they thought his sister was open to throwing random parties. The doorbell rang again and she opened it a very strange sight.

"Greeting earthling" She blinked twice at the ginger boy, currently standing on his hands and with his clothes backwards. A purple haired boy raced up behind him.

"I'm so sorry about my brother" The boy said, Eliza smiled widely; this one had potential…even if he was a bit younger than Donnie.

"It's no problem" She said sincerely, if not too happily. The boy looked at her oddly, so she continued. "My brother's a little strange too. That's actually why I threw this party to help him find some friends…it's just…not been going well." The boy smiled widely, understanding.

"So…does that mean I don't have to be 'best behavior'?" The two looked back at him. The boy smiled.

"Go wild Dill" The kid gave a loud whoop and rushed into the house. "We were gonna walk in…together." The boy sighed, "We were supposed to b waiting for my girlfriend and her brother." Eliza smiled, then shrugged.

"I think you guys are the last ones, so we can just leave the door open and you can dart in and out. He smiled back.

"Thanks, names Tommy by the way" She introduced herself as well. "Hey-I know you; your parents are the ones with that nature show, I LOVE that show! It's what got me filming." She chuckled.

"Well, I'll be sure to tell them you said that, it ought to make their day to know they had such an impact on someone." The two talk about her parents for a bit, they duck inside for some food and Eliza chances a look inside the room. Dill is on top of the bookcase with Donnie, whom is no longer in attack position. The two are smiling, so Eliza assumes it's going well even though she can't hear what's being said. They return outside and talk some more as an Asian girl and another redhead come into view.

"Kimmi! Chucky! You guys made it!" Eliza greets the two newest guests and ushers them inside. Kimmi and Tommy go, but Chucky stops to tie his shoes. Lillian runs over to Kimmi as soon as she sees her, Suzy snickers, but gets up to welcome the new group. Chucky walks in last…and that were things went south.

There was no warning, no anything—Donnie launched himself off of the bookcase and attacked Chucky. Everyone started screaming and ran out. Donnie himself was switching in between so many languages Eliza could even identify them let alone translate. In the end, she'd had to shoot him with about twelve tranquilizers to get him asleep and in turn to release his captive.

"I told you"

"Darwin please" Eliza tried to clean up everything after the disaster party. In the panic to get away from Donnie food had been spilled, tables overturned. She sniffled. "You were right o.k. This was a mistake. He doesn't want to go to school but I was crazy enough to think he might actually need friends or want to be normal or…" She trailed off hiccupping threw her tears. Darwin placed his hand on her shoulder to soothe her.

"It's alright. Donnie is…complicated. You know that better than anyone. Besides, he's fine staying at home while you go to school, I can watch him. And who knows, maybe it was just a person too much, he'll be fine by next year I'm sure of it." Eliza gave her best friend a watery smile and hugged him with all of her strength.

The next day, Donnie woke her up by jumping on her, and it was only by clearing her eyes and grabbing her glasses did she notice, he had stolen both Darwin's shirt and a pair of her shoes. His babbling was gibberish at the moment, but he was franticly signing 'school'. She blinked a few times, before deciding that since the boy changed his mind often enough, she'd better get him registered. Eliza got dressed lightning fast and soon; Donnie was enrolled in the 9th grade.
