Nightmares Part 2
AN: Read the above you butts thank you
Gamzee's eyes opened slowly, his bright purple irises swallowing his pupils as the sudden light mercilessly attacked them. He blinked slowly, his eyelids slowly but surely chasing away the darkness that had threatened to devour his sight completely. A prickling sensation brought his attention to his left arm, and he became aware he was laying on it; had been laying on it for quite some time. Inhaling slowly through his nose, Gamzee pushed himself up so he could sit, and once he did so it took him another few moments to catch his breath.
Ignoring his confusion as to when and why he had decided to sleep on the floor, Gamzee continued to sit quietly. He pulled his legs towards his body, crossed his legs and cradled his left arm to his chest, wincing as the return of blood to the limb brought an onslaught of pain. Growling quietly to himself, Gamzee raised his head and realized where he was.
He was sitting in the middle of one of the more secluded halls of the meteor, branching off of his and Eridan's Chambers. Lights swayed above him with the movements of the meteor, and flickered as Gamzee watched them. Blinking, he lowered his head and slowly scooted closer to one of the walls. He let out a sigh when his back touched the cool metal.
What had he been doing?
Closing his eyes, Gamzee remembered. The faint hope that everything he had done had been a dream was crushed by the stinging pain in his hand. Gamzee bent his head back and groaned, irritated. The realization that he had indeed passed out, and had no idea why, hit him suddenly, and his shoulders sagged. It took him a minute to admit it to himself, but he didn't care.
He vaguely wondered exactly when it was that he had stopped caring for his wellbeing, but before he finished wondering he already knew the answer.
It had been the nightmares that had stopped him from caring; from eating or getting a proper days sleep. He couldn't even remember the last time he had left his Chambers, other than now.
He growled at himself, gently hitting the back of his head on the wall behind him. What a disaster that had been. He should never have done it, he thought. He should never have left his home. Something in his mind wanted to argue that his friends would worry, but it was immediately struck down by the knowledge that they hadn't cared about him for weeks. He frowned, before he pushed both those thoughts out of his mind, and himself off of the floor.
He still had a Taurus to find. Gamzee struggled through the halls, fighting the knowledge that he would probably have to fight Vriska, and the feeling of exhaustion in his limbs. Passing out was not fun, and he couldn't wait to sleep.
But sleeping was a false comfort.
Closing his eyes, he rubbed gently on his eyelids with the pads of his fingers, and stopped walking. He took his time rubbing the exhaustion from his eyes, ignoring the sudden throb of his head. He must've hit his head when he had passed out.
A worry for another day.
As his hand fell to his side, he started to wonder if it would be better of him to return to his hive; to continue hiding until he wasted away. It would certainly be easier on everyone that way. Karkat would worry for a little while, but he was sure the small troll would be relieved in the long run. Gamzee knew he had been a shitty moirail anyways.
Tavros would miss him, and the thought of letting the dorky troll down brought Gamzee to a pause, before he forced himself to continue walking, his eyes trailing on his feet. He sighed, knowing as long as Tavros would be around, he could never bring himself to disappoint the shy troll.
He pushed the realization that he had already disappointed him out of his mind.
There was a shuffling sound in front of him and before Gamzee could look up, someone slammed into him. Toppling over from the sudden force, Gamzee felt his breath leave him as a weight landed on his chest.
Blinking dumbly at the ceiling, Gamzee scrunched up his face in befuddlement, before looking down to see who was still lying on his chest.
Before he could register who it was, there was a flash of blue and the weight was suddenly gone, and Gamzee found himself staring up at a raging Ampora, held three feet off of the ground by the blue blooded Zahhak.
He found himself to amused and confused to stand back up. Equius ignored Eridan's ranting and yelling in favor of looking Gamzee over, and Gamzee could see the concern behind his broken black glasses.
Equius must have been very worried if he was mistreating a highblood to see that he was alright. It was only a second later, when he felt a light touch on his face, that he realized someone else was there as well. When he realized who it was his heart froze.
He hadn't wanted to be reminded like this.
Nepeta swatted at his face gently, trying to get his attention, then when she saw she did, she grabbed onto his arm and started to pull.
Gamzee clenched his eyes shut and stood with her.
Forcing images of blood and gore from his mind yet again, Gamzee cracked his eyes open, only to see that the three trolls had gone.
He desperately hoped they had been there to begin with.
From the looks of the empty corridor around him however, he regretfully doubted it.
His eyes shut once more, he pictured the happiest memory he could muster.
He kept walking.
