Did you know that in "The Crimson Horror," Mrs. Gillyflower offers the Doctor a glass of Amontillado, a direct reference to Edgar Allen Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado," in which Montresor entices Fortunato to come down to his dungeon to kill him with a type of wine called Amontillado. (I realize that was a long long sentence just stick with me here.
He opened his hands to reveal small metal bugs and threw them at me. I screamed as the machines crawled up towards my head lightning fast. "Welcome to the Cyberiad." he said as I fell to the ground. The insects burrowed their way into my skin and I felt them create the same structure as they did on the Doctor. I felt myself slipping away as I writhed on the floor in pain. Metal was now attached to my cheek and I felt the machine reach back to infiltrate my brain. But something stopped them. I felt something in my head attack them, and then I felt a consciousness take over my body. No, I thought, this is what it feels like to become a Cyberman. After an eternity I felt my body still and then stand up. I expected to feel myself slip away, but I was still there. I walked forward towards the Cyberplanner, who had a smug smile on his face. But it started to fade.
"Did you think it would be that easy?" I said in a voice that sounded like an echo. I felt the implants burn off of me, but the consciousness stayed. "Well, I did try to tell you I would get what I wanted." I walked right up to the Cyberplanner and touched his face. He froze. "Come back doctor," I whispered, "come back." and then the Cyberplanner seized up and nearly collapsed. He looked up at me and spoke.
"Kate?" I was afraid that the Cyberplanner was faking, but the consciousness reached out and touched his mind. The second I felt it, I knew it was him. I felt the consciousness fade, putting me back in control, but I still felt it in the back of my mind.
I practically squealed and jumped into the air. "Oh you're back, you're back, and you're back!" I became serious. "We need to get out of here." I looked him right in the eye. "Stay with me Doctor, and show me the way out. I'll follow." my voice sounded odd, but I dismissed it.
"Follow me." he said and set off at a fast pace. We wound our way through the corridors. We finally made it to the elevator and slowly made our way up. The elevator dinged open and the Doctor stepped out, where upon the soldiers aimed their guns at him. "No! No! Don't shoot, I'm nice!" he said, throwing his hands in front of his face. I nodded and they lowered their guns. Then I saw River rush forward to me, but before she hugged me, she pulled my hair away from my face and checked both ears, which was understandable. Then she hugged me. She turned her attention to the Doctor. I felt him and the Cyberplanner switching very fast back and forth, but River solved that. Without warning, she reached up and slapped him across the face.
"Oww! Why would you do that?" the Doctor said.
"Don't you ever scare me like that again! Do you hear me?"
"Yes dear." she glanced at me, as if to confirm it was really him. I nodded.
He touched her cheek softly and looked at her. "I would have died a thousand times over before they could have hurt you." and then he leaned down and kissed her full on the lips. They kissed passionately, and I realized how much he really lovedher. He pulled away slowly and said the three words she had been waiting to hear.
"I love you."
"I love you too." she said, with tears in her eyes.
